Scrolling down or to the left doesn't work. I probably should get this fixed but I don't have stock HTC ROM installed nor even a SenseUI ROM installed.
I'm using amon_ra's recovery image, but can't navigate the menus.
What should I do?
Thanks!
Over at androidforums, I remember seeing a modified recovery that accepted an input other than the trackball. You could try that.

Here is that thread for the modified Recovery: http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...2-custom-recovery-trackball-not-required.html
After that, if you want to make it stock, you can install the Flashback21 ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792026
usb wiggle allows the trackball to be moved. Since the usb plugin is on the same tray as the trackball moving the usb plug up and down inside the socket will allow the cursor on screen to move down.

Does anyone know if you can install the Evo stock keyboard onto the desire. Not only does it have arrows but also has voice to text icon on it. Would save me time from flipping between two different keyboards.

Well. doesn't Htc_ime_mod do everything you want it to. (I know there are no arrows. But voice to text and swipe to change keyboard.)
I tried but got stuck while deodexing it... Maybe some other time. Still Android n00b although hold few degrees in cs.
Don't have that keyboard. I'll look for it. Thanks

Here it is, deodexed and signed. I tried to install it via adb but failed bacause it says it is aleady present (obviously...). Perhaps it can be pushed via recovery? I tried to look into the matter but because of app2sd the situation of my phone appears to be rather chaotic and i didn't want to mess up...another way (drastic) could be to repack a rom with it...any suggestions?

Yeah thats me man . xTc is loVe and I figured it out
How do I install this? Do I need to root my desire?
Flashed via recovery
This cant be installed on an ally can it? I tried and it doesnt work lol
So I am trying to install update.zip to root my vibrant but the power button is broken with JI6 z4mod patched kernel. I am trying to root the phone and I have the update.zip in both sdcard and sdcard/sd folders. I am looking for a way to install update.zip in recovery mode without power button.
Is this possible using ADB on a nonrooted device? I have already tried this without success....
Also, I can't use adb remount since I dont have root access.
Code:
adb shell recovery --update=sdcard/update.zip
Anyone out there found a solution to this? The power button on my Nexus One is completely shot, and luck would have it that I voided my warranty to replace a smashed digitizer shortly before it started to act up, so no love from HTC.
I get by with WidgetLocker, which allows wake-via-trackball, so I haven't yet sprung the US$50 to buy a replacement power button/upper circuit board on eBay. I wanted to apply the Gingerbread update.zip to my phone, but I haven't yet found a way to do that without having to use the power button somewhere in the procedure.
Advice?
Google Nexus One
Android 2.2.2 FRG83G
Rooted using SuperOneClick v1.7
Thanks!
you don't "install a update.zip"
You leave it on your external SD Card that you mount on your computer. and thts that.
Okay read your question one more time..
Here's what you do.
This rooting method doesn't require you to go into Recovery at all.
Use a program called "super one click root" it some-how which idk, puts a superuser app on your app drawer, and if the superuser app is there, your rooted. so try that. I'll edit this post if i find the link. hold up.

That will work to get into recovery, but then how does he select anything in the menu?
Ahh, so simple, yet I neglected.... This seems tough
I am not familiar with this mod z4 kernel... Is there not a revert?
Why don't you root with super one click, then use rom manager from koush to install a new kernel?
No power button needed. (I think)

Is the physical power button broken, or is it software broken?
If it's software wouldn't an odin to jfd fix it? To access d/l mode without power button, run "adb reboot download".
If its the physical button...i don't know if this works on stock recovery but I was able to use the back button to select in clockwork red. I didn't have the stock recovery long enough to remember if it works on it.

Yeah, if you are stuck on a kernel with bad button mapping then you should probably just odin out.

Agreed, I think through ROM manager you have to select flash rom or something to that effect, but it will let you flash any .zip including a new kernel

anyone try installing the gingerbread keyboard on the mt4g? i just tried and i can't seem to do it...
i installed the zip but i can't choose the gingerbread keyboard. any thoughts?
I installed it (via clockwork) and it will open but everytime I press a key I get a FC for 'android.process.inputmethod.latin' I only have English selected too.
Very strange, hopefully someone sorts this out.
In the mean time, anyone know the terminal or adb commands to uninstall this kb?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I flashed it via clockwork recovery, and don't even see the Gingerbread keyboard listed as an input method. (Same issue as OP) - FWIW I'm running Iced Glacier v1.1.1, phone is rooted with S-OFF.
I'm also on iced glacier, could be the keyboard file you're using. Try the file from a different source..

just out of curiosity, which source did you use?

And it worked?
I had problems at first too - was installing from recovery but couldn't select it after I rebooted.
Figured out that from recovery mode you need to mount /system before installing the zip from sdcard. Mount then install and it should install and be there when you reboot
UPDATE: I'm getting the same FC problems a previous user was having whenever i hit a key on the new keyboard
Wait, what? I tried installing simply with root explorer. There is one file that goes to system/app and another to system/lib. Following a reboot, there is no input option besides the three default inputs.
I tried installing this keyboard a about an hour ago and the following happened: The first install appeared to go well and I could not find the keyboard listed so I tried installing the updated V2(fabulouso ginerbread v2. zip)of this zip and and this time it soft bricked my phone. Luckily I was able to boot into clockworkmode recovery and restore. I am on V5 and have s=off but no other customizations. I have no idea why this happened. Any one have any thoughts on this?

Hi guys, sorry if it is a stupid question, but am I okay to flash the stock recovery while I'm running cm7?
My battery life is horrible so I just want to try the work around that involves charging while the phone is off and we know cwm recovery doesn't work like that right now.
I would flash back to cwm 3 afterwards.

Here's a link to one of TrueBlue_Drew's =bazillion= answers to this question. His method allows you to have two versions of CW Recovery available via the Rom Manager. Since the Rom Manager does not support CW Recovery 3.x, that version is stored as "2.5.1.4". With CW 3, ROM Manager is used only for going back and forth between CW 2 and 3.
Hope this helps.

I've actually talked to TrueBlue and I came up with the idea of making the oemrecovery and renaming it, recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.1. He is supposed to be updating his guide here shortly but I just spoke with him regarding this last night.
Basically, download the oemrecovery, go to the clockwork folder on your sdcard and go clockworkmod>download>koush.tandgaming.com>recoveries. Drop the oemrecovery into that spot on the sdcard and rename it EXACTLY recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.1. Once that's done you can now go into rommanager scroll down to all clockworkmod recoveries and choose 2.5.1.1. That is now your stock recovery. you can reboot into the stock recovery, and keep the phone off to charge it. Once done, reboot the phone, go back to rommanager and click 2.5.1.4 and that will give you cwm3.xxx back. If this helps you, please hit the thanks button!
Thanks. Sorry for posting in the wrong section.
I'm aware I can flash back to 2.5.1.2, but for some reason I recall that this also went into recovery when charged. I'm probably wrong about that though .
amac, that sounds like a very elegant solution. I'll have too give that a shot.
I was really mostly concerned that not having 3.x would somehow affect the cm7 installation. But im guessing it should not and only affects ability to flash the rom.
Thanks again all. And for bearing with my ignorance!
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Well i just checked, and 2.5.1.2 still turns on the phone when charging while powered off.
I've looked around but can't find it, is there a flashable stock recovery for the MT4G somewhere? I know there's an image posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843289 but this one isn't flashable. But i guess i could still manage if there isn't one out there.
Thanks again everyone.
use the oemrecovery file found on page 118 of the cm6 thread. It was posted by phateless. Sorry I would link it but the xda app doesn't let you do that.

Hello,
I just got a used MyTouch 4G which seems to work flawlessly with stock 2.2.1 and 2.3.4. I'm trying to root and flash it with a custom rom.
I've reverted back to 2.2.1 stock, visionary, done s=off, and have root access. I install CWM 5.0.2(?) but when I try and go into recovery mode either through ROM Manager or the choose recovery from the ROM Manager menu but then when I try to do something I get a black screen with the Hat and circle arrow and it just sits there.
I didn't have this problem with my Nook, am I missing something?
Thanks,
Lich

Hit the power button when you see the hat wearing arrow. The menu is hidden, power makes it visible. Use the trackpad click to make selections, not power. Volume rocker and trackpad can be used to move the highlight, but power shows/hides the menu.

I completely noobed it somehow, and thought it only vol. power would work. I accidentally hit the trackpad and was like "AHH! got it!"
All working now just trying to decide on the ROM!
Just a follow up question. Is there a reason why many of the ROMs seem to have been abandon? Are the chefs working on ICS or moved on to another phone?
