[Q] Will I get charged for this?! - Legend General

Hi there,
will rooting my phone cause me to get charged with my mobile carrier? I recently rooted my phone about one week ago, and went from Rom to Rom (First I was on 1.13 software, then I went to 2.03 software) and finally found my Rom, (Froyo Rom 3.15 software). Does rooting my phone change the radio version? I used "TheUnlockr.com" instructions. The Froyo Rom did not change my radio version however that's what they said and I double checked. Because I'm afraid that if I have the wrong radio version connected to my Virgin Mobile Canada company I might get charged. Is that actually possible? Having the wrong radio version connected to your mobile carrier? And getting charged for it? Thanks for the help guys. I'm really nervous about this.

No, you will not get charged for rooting, changing roms or updating your radio.

Rooting, flashing custom roms is not illegal and you will not be charged.
However, do note that with a rooted phone, any rogue apps that ned root can wipe all your private data and your phone may break or be bricked.
If your phone becomes spoilt, you canot send it for repair as it will void your warranty. However, search my posted threads for a guide to unroot all android phones and not void your warranty

Thanks so much for the help and answer guys. I'll take a look at the threads and bookmark them just in case for future use. What a relief. Thanks guys!

Question about unroot

Hello. In case i'm interested on Unrooting the phone and installing the Original Rom wich came with my phone, in orther to update it (in case there is an interesting rom update) , do i have to do something special? Or can i run the exe update directly from the HTC site it'll unroot and restore everything as it was before with perfect SPL etc? Thanks
You shouldn't need to do anything else, just do what it says on the HTC website. I did it 2 times without any problems.

[Q] Virgin Mobile unroot question

I've got a Legend on Virgin (Canada) and I'm still debating rooting it. My question is if I needed to unroot for warranty or whatever else, would I need to find a Virgin branded ROM? Or could I just use a generic ROM and update normally? I'm still reading up on the whole root procedure but I want to make sure I know what's going on before I try it.

i think you would have to re-root with a virgin rom if you sent it to htc for warranty...
on the virgin legend i think we have to downgrade the bootloader before we can root and flash with a new rom
i am also debating on rooting but will probably wait until there is an official 2.2 rom from htc (supposedly this month)
So if that is the case (I agree it probably is), does anybody know where I can find the proper ROM? From what I gather I can't back it up until I've rooted the phone, but to do that I need to downgrade using a generic ROM, which means that I've already lost mine (correct me if I'm wrong...). Shipped-roms doesn't have it. I don't really want to root unless I have the option of at least attempting to reverse it because I'm paying for an extended replacement plan that I don't think I can get out of. Not too worried about the rooting process, but it'd be lame if something else happened and I couldn't unroot to send it back.

The Virgin HTC Legend is the same as Bell's rom wise and shipped roms have Bell's 2.03
Awesome, thanks. I'll try rooting tonight.

Question re T-Mobile

Hi...
I was lucky enough to get my glacier exchanged for a new one due to problems I am having with wifi.
My question is... So that I minimize any problems with this exchange, to what extent should I return the phone in its original condition (not hardware, but rather software firmware). I was planning in reimaging it with the original htc sense which was on it when I bought it (using CM7 now), but would there be anything else?
Do you think it would be that important to "un-root" it?
Also, given that this is a new replacement mt4g, am I going to have any problems getting root again? I seem to remember that they modified the bootloader so as to make rooting this phone a much bigger pain in the ass.
My current mt4g is rooted fully with radio at 000000 (our whatever...I cannot remember offhand what it is called but it was fully rooted).
Thanks!

Put it back to stock everything.

I've gotten away with just flashing back to the stock rooted 2.2 mySense ROM. Done it like 5 times with no problems. Good luck.
If it was me I would unroot it just to avoid unwanted attention, but I guess you could use mySense so it looks normal.
In all likelihood, they won't check the phone or penalize you for modifying it, but it's probably safer to just unroot it completely. On the off chance that they refuse the exchange because you've "voided the warranty" or whatnot, it's just better to fully return it to factory settings.
Thanks to all who replied. I think I am going to reimage the phone with the latest update from t-mobile (found in this forum) as I read here that it will unroot your phone.
I just got the phone and am now dreading the transfer. First thing I need to do is root it. However, it has been 9 months since I did this on my original phone and I know their have been changes to both the phone and improvements to rooting it.
I tried searching, but I don't know which method is best. Is there anyway I can tell from looking at the replacement phone if there is a change in the bootloader or firmware version-- or any info at all which might help me determine the easiest way to root this new mt4g
Or, in the alternative, just a suggestion to use a specific method and not worry about it? I have adb installed so if necessary, I can use that.

Warranty repair. Need to get things back to STOCK!

Hi all,
I've read the stickies and other threads and just want to be certain I'm going about this the right way.
I have a hardware fault with my HD2 (running NexusHD2 v3.0) and want it repaired under warranty. HTC have accepted to take the phone back but I'll obviously need to flash it back to stock.
The oldest ROM for my device appears to be "RUU_Leo_Vodafone_UK_1.43.405.1_Radio_Signed_15.26. 50.07U_2.04.50.22_2_Ship.exe" which is likely the one that shipped with the phone as this is one of the first off the production line, so I'll be flashing this one.
The hardware fault on the device has caused the MicroUSB port to break, so I won't be able to flash via a cable. I see I'm able to flash a stock rom via the same method of custom WM roms (that takes me back! ), but what I'm wondering is... after flashing via SD card, will the stock rom both remove HSPL *and* the newer Radio rom I flashed?
I assume I won't have to Task29 the phone or anything before flashing WM, as iirc you have to Task29 via a cable.
Thanks for your help!
I'd download the official ROM from HTC's website (that you have to give them your HD2's serial number), just to be sure that you won't flash a wrong ROM and everything will be in order.
Also flashing via SD the ROM should remove both HSPL and newer radio (I'm 100% sure it does that with official ROMs, but with unofficials it may change only the radio).
flashing a stock rom will not remove the spl..cause ive had first hand exp with it
just flash the stock rom then get the hspl package from this site and you can flash the stock spl from it

Flashing via SD removes HSPL - Confirmed !
I have a hd2 with a radio hardware fault. It works great without the sim inserted. When I send it to htc to repair should I revert it back to tmobile stock rom or let them see it in android with the sim radio not working?

Just send it back as it it.
Mine got the dreaded no touch problem so sent back as was.nobody even mentioned it being hacked..

What do u mean.. they will still fix it anyway?

Thanks everyone for your advice - flashing stock now. I'm lucky enough to have a rooted Samsung Galaxy 5 (i5500) as a backup phone so I won't have to be without Android, but I'll sure miss the HD2 while it's repaired!

To be honest, I wouldn't risk it. Companies will do anything to get out of warranty claims, and by doing what you've (we've ) done, we have voided the warranty and should expect no service from HTC regardless of the fault in its current condition.
It's a shame as my hardware fault obviously has nothing to do with flashing software or the like; it'd be like an insurance company not paying out when someone hits your car because you'd changed its radio.
HTC might be a lot more, um, "human" though, like tleaf100 found out... but I just wouldn't want to chance it. You're sending the device direct to their chosen repair centre anyway, they might not be so decent!
Just to confirm - the (latest) Vodafone UK stock rom removed the custom SPL, splash screen, radio and everything else. You'll soon know if your stock rom removes all of this as it goes through an [OK] checklist while it's flashing.
Being back on WM seemed rather strange.
All ready to be sent off...
HTC are so **** with service send it back stock otherwise they will only **** you about for weeks and get you to pay for it back, cost me 25 quid, arseholes!

and also took them 6 weeks!!
how did it all go with htc,any probs ?

Interesting on lg g2, need some advice

Hi, guys,
I am a disappointed owner of HTC One with its "ultra purple" feature.
I am looking for replacement, this one seems good enough.
But I don't want to fall into the same hole again, so I need some advice about this phone
1) how is lg's service based on your experience ?
2) how easy this phone to root, installing custom rom and get back to stock rom
( if necessary) ? HTC has ruu, cid, s-off, etc, I found it not easy for newbie like me
Thanks in advance.

Its very easy to root and installing custom recovery and rom. After recovery is installed, you can make a back up of the rom and restore it after to its original state,in case something goes wrong,or just want to revert back from any other rom.Thats what i did.
This phone is the easiest phone I have ever rooted.
I have been working for 8 hours and the batter only went down 10 percent. Whatever lg did to this phone it is some good [email protected]@t. But looking forward tethering method since the phone came on T-Mobile 2 days ago

It's all easy and as expected the only advice is hurry up before Loki gets patched not that I know anything but we are all rightfully paranoid of OTA
