"Rom Manager Could Not Be Installed On this Phone" - Hero CDMA General

Wow, I've literally spent two hours trying to install ROM Manager on my friend's now rooted Sprint Hero. It was not in the market, so I cleared cache and all that. I eventually gave up on that, and tried to install via AppBrain. No dice. Then I just downloaded the apk to the SD card and got this message:
"Rom Manager Could Not Be Installed On this Phone"
Honestly, I've tried every trick I can, including googling for other people's solutions. I've found several other incidents of this error, but no solutions.
Any help??

The new version does not support the HTC Hero, from what I have heard. Try this version, I think it is modded to work on the hero. I have version 2.5.0.9 on my phone, maybe google that and you may find the apk, put on SD and install.
Link to modded version from AOSP GB Thread...

Or you could just use Amon-RA.

Problems with Facebook Update on Fresh

No, I am not having the wake lock issue.
Fresh comes preloaded with a facebook app, and as the new update came out I went into the market looking for it. I went to download the app, and upon installing it I get an error reading
"Installation Error: Package file was not signed correctly"
I've read that upon getting this error, you are to simply uninstall the old facebook app and reinstall a new one. However, Astro will not allow me to uninstall the application. So, I'm stuck. Any help would be much appreciated!
-cryt
additional info:
phone - htc evo 4g
android - 2.2
rom - latest fresh
Try uninstalling it threw the actual Phone settings. IE:Settings>Applications>Manage Applications.
That worked for me. I was having the same problem

[Q] download unsuccessful

There are several threads here dealing with the market download unsuccessful error. Unfortunately, none of the solutions have helped me to this point. I am currently on the AOSP ish JK2 1.1 ROM, but two days ago I was on one of the sombionix ROMs and I was having the same problem. In fact, this "download unsuccessful" error was one of the reasons I wanted to try a different ROM. Bottom line is, I don't think it is ROM related.
So, I am getting the download unsuccessful error for most apps that I try to get from the market. Funny thing is, some apps work fine and install fine. I have tried clearing the cache/data for the market app and the download manager app from settings->applications->manage applications and going to market and download manager. I have seen tips that suggested uninstalling the market??? but I couldn't figure out how, since it the option to uninstall was grayed out. Is download manager even needed? I have seen some people that say they freeze it with titanium to conserve battery. I have seen where some people that have this problem use Astro after getting the error and then browse to the apk and install it manually. The problem is, I can't install astro because... wait for it... I get the download unsuccessful error. I adb shell'ed and looked for the market download folder, but I couldn't find it. Where is it, anyway?
It's not just download unsuccessful errors that I am getting. I also have times where the download never starts. Sometimes I have to cancel and restart the download several times before it will actually download (sometimes ending with a download unsuccessful error after it reaches 100%).
In summary, the questions are:
1. Is uninstalling an re-installing the market an option? How do I do this?
2. Is freezing download manager a good idea?
3. Where is the market download folder?
4. Any other suggestions for getting past these errors and having a market that actually works most of the time?
I have issues with unsuccessful downloads as well. Latest one was LauncherPro and Google Voice. LauncherPro I download from the developers website and Google Voice I managed to resolve by going in and deleting the Marketing cache.
As for the question of deleting the market you would have to use something like Titanium Backup. But make sure to find a Froyo compatible Market APK first.
Well, I don't know why it would help, but I froze com.sec.android.providers.downloads in titanium and it seems that I can now download some of the apps that before I could not.
I would still really appreciate it if someone could take a stab at the other questions I have asked in the OP.
Anyone? Please?

[Q] problem: apps fail to install from market

hi, i installed mdeejays android version succesfully, however some apps fail to install via market.
for example angry birds and the latest facebook app. the smaller apps will install without any problem. but the important apps wont. what can i do about this?
i read something about unmounting SD card. i tried that. But still got the problem.
What should i do?
I really want the facebook 1.5.0 app
tnx
Do you get an error or do they just stuck on 100% after downloading?

I get an error. But sometimes the download just cancels itself.
however, the main problem is the error. because i could download the apk file via rapidshare etc.
But the problem is the error. the error says after the install bar runs:
Application did not install. (in dutch)
The other problem, with the download cancelling is like this:
when selecting an app for download, the download bar starts running.
But after a few seconds the download bar disappears by itself. so eventually, the app never reaches my phone. in fact the download never completes.
so there are 2 problems. but the first problem is worse than the second.
However, it would be great if you could help me to solve them both.
First problem: i get an error when installing certain apps.
second: My downloads from the market wont complete.
sorry for any weird sentences, english is not my first language.
Kinda glad to know that I'm not the only one with the same problem... still trying to figure out what happened.
I know a clean install will fix the problem but I don't want to go through that again...
My phone is a Motorola Milestone running CM6 10.12.22
i just did a clean install from the latest android out there (darkstone superram 0.1) with the dutch vodafone data mod and i cannot download a single byte from the market. the market itself works fine over wifi or G3, but all files refuse to download.
thing that sucks as well is that i have the apk for applanet on the sd card but a cannot get to it as the darkstone lacks a sd card explorer app....
When that happened to me, Market reported an error -18. An online search recommended deleting a hidden directory ".android_secure" on the SD card. I'm running CM6.1 on a CDMA Hero with most of my apps running from the SD. From what I found online, that secure stuff is for Froyo apps2sd... which is why some apps downloaded and installed okay, and why some apps downloaded, but failed to install.
You can also try some cache dumps including Dalvik. Run "Fix Permissions" in ROM Manager. Then try the downloads again. If that still doesn't work, you might want to delete the ".android_secure" hidden directory.
Make sure to do a Nand backup and copy the contents of the SD card onto your computer before attempting any fix. Play it safe.
Good luck.

Market Purchase Error Frustated??

Okay guys runnning tabooney 2.2 updated and everything was running ICS 3.2.0 market kept getting purchase error, so i went in and cleared data removed the my gmail in acct sync and same thing, reboot clear cache dalvik did a full reset flashed the again same issue. one step i havent successfully gotten to do was the place vending.apk thru a file manager. i have r/w permission and root using honeycomb manager and file es,. I even tryed flashing the market 3.1.6 thru cwm with a flashable zip found on xda but i cant find the link anymore. really need some help, finally i just gave up and downgraded back to 3.1hc then updated back to 3.2 thru acer. but i cant live without root now punning lightspeed rom but would like to be on tabooney again THANK!!!! im pretty good at using roms and terminal emu, but not familiar with adb push. but your best help would be awesome. i want to be able to use 3.2.0 ics but if i can get 3.1.6 ill be good with that also
Try to delete gmail account, clear market data them add gmail account and try to download again
Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk
me too running taboonay 2.1
i have this problem too - and it seems others have too according to the taboonay thread...there are quite a few solutions that have been posted including
- deleting your market gmail account and setting up a whole new one,
- downgrading to 1.0.28
- upgrading to 3.1.5/3.1.6
- installing apps thru the website
- updating the rom to 2.2
- downgrading back to 2.1
- wiping caches, reflashing etc
but nothing has worked for me unfortunately tho i havent reflashed (yet)
I see someone has posted a new market version 3.3.11 so i'm about to try that, so i'll let u know how it goes in a few ticks!!
ok, its working...for now
right, this is what i did -
backed up!
cleared market data via settings>manage apps, cache was already mt
rebooted
d/l 3.3.11 from here and installed.
now, after i opened it had to do the 'accept' thing and then tried to d/l a game. I got a dialogue asking which application i would like to use and the choices were:
a) com.google.android.finsky, or
b) com.android.vending
i wasn't sure which one so chose a) and got an error "device not compatible" turns out "finsky" was my original market 1.0.28, so -
used the shortcut for 3.3.11 and voila i'm all sweet, woohoo!!!!
i wouldnt be sure that this is "solved" but it is working - i also have 2 market
shortcuts in my apps list and both versions showing in root explore and titanium
unsure as to whether i can uninstall orig. market
but for the moment i think i'll leave things as they are good luck
I am on a 3.2 stock rom and have the same issue. I have tried some of those above mentioned solutions except changing rom and different market app (I am not rooted so I can't try that) and none worked.
I have sent an email to market support and they are looking to it. But I guess 4.0 will be here before they find a solution.

Usually I find the way to fix this problem is to replace vending.apk in your app folder with a compatible one. You need root to do this, as it involves deleting/renaming a file in the system.

Latest Wechat not working in ppgraded Samsung y s5360 to Lollipop

Hi,
I have a Samsung Y S5360 (which I like a lot) and Wechat was insisting too much on updating to its latest version, for which I had to upgrade to a newest ROM, so I got Lollipop (just that was a log process for me, as I'm not an expert, but I'm learning a lot the last days). Anyway, so I am installing apps now and I have some issues that's not making it so easy.
1. I'm in China so I have no access to Play Google. Also installing downloaded apps from the SD card has only worked until now for Link2SD and Superuser, all other apps I tried to install that way get parsing error.
So, I'm getting apps from Baidu and Chinese apps provider. My Chinese reading is less than okay, so I kind of follow by instinct, which is possible, that way I've installed already Pleco, and another couple of apps successfully. Except for Airdroid, and Wechat.
2. The problem with Airdroid is that I could get a 2.something version but not the latest 3.something, and as I tried to get it, even from Airdroid web, it's not working.
3. The problem with wechat, which is way more important to me than Airdroid, is that I get to install an old version, but still newer than the one I used to have when I was on Gingerbread. One strange thing that happened is that the look of it though wasn't the same as the new style of wechat but as the Wechat of a year or so ago. Strange. ... Besides that, then the most relevant issue is that once installed the old version I get the message to update it, once the update is downloaded and installed, I opened it and I only get to see the opening image (the earth and the guy) and that's it, it stops.
I tried installing the latest version from some of the Chinese providers of apps, but it happens the same. It's installed, and it's opening, I see the earth and the guy, and then off to the screen of icons in android.
I've tried to uninstall and install, wiping cache in between. Didn't worked. I tried redoing the process of installing the ROM all over again. Didn't work. I tried to leave Wechat in the phone, and not move it to the SD Card. Didn't work. I tried kissing the phone, and chanting some Hawaiian healing songs. Didn't work.
Here I am, at the end of the day, trying another way, I kind of believe the force is with XDA devs
