just got from my widget new 3g coverage coming by quarter. third quarter for me buffalo ny YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
^^ bad link

Yay, Corona, CA. It's about damn time too. Although, if I drive barely 5 miles west I get 3g and also get 3G at my workplace which is in Los Angeles county. It's only at my house where I only get Edge connection.
edit: 3rd quarter, so that means I will be getting 3g in my city sometime between June and September, nice...looks like I will no longer have to turn on wifi when I get home.
Damn this 3g thing sucks (lack of).
If I go the nyc The speed is beautiful. In westchester too. I get to Stamford and get a weak signal by UBS and nothing anywhere else. In norwalk, I get a 3g sinal once in a blue. random times in the evening. And when I realize it the speeds are horrible. Damn T mo. I know you can dish out the signal...Hurry/
I waited so long, but 3Q for CT seems so far away.
When they add 3G coverage to a city how big of a radius is effected? I'm about 40 miles from Manchester, NH and 50 miles from Portland, ME (both second quarter upgrades according to the link). I know those distances are quite large but using the Boston 3G as a reference on Tmobile's coverage checker (which is currently down) it covers a pretty wide span.
Will I notice a difference?
There is a possibility youll see a difference, just depends on location i.e living in a Valley etc, im not overly familiar with the US topography as i only know the tourist destinations of Florida, California and Vegas Baby!!
Im from England,, where Bump mapping was something Cartographers used to do to their wives
all i can say is im with 3G and i live about 40 miles from Manchester (UK) and 15 Miles from Sheffield (UK) so where ever there is a big City, for me there is 3G
Its good to hear 3G is rolling out for you!

Cool, it's reasonably flat between me and Manchester NH so finger's crossed.
I'm from Blighty myself by the way.
None in Columbus Yet
So, it says Q2 for Columbus, OH and I'm yet to get any. I wonder just how reliable that list is.

Where are you from? I'm moving back to Manchester in a month, I'm excited about 3g . I live in Nashua now and there's no 3g till around Lowell and south and it's blotchy. As it is in Manchester Edge is blotchy and at my moms house I only get gprs, but near Elm street and east I get Edge. I was working in Beverly mass and I get some 3.5g out there. 2nd quarter is april - june correct? So I should be getting 3g real soon.
There were quite a few blind spots in the 3G network in the Minneapolis/St Paul (Minnesota) northern suburbs, but this past Tuesday, T-Mobile turned on their new 3G towers. It's great to have 3G at work now, and I can actually do some webbrowsing on my breaks.

I'm in Dover and I'm crawling along on GPRS except when I hook into WiFi.
Anyone live in Indianapolis or the surrounding areas? Since I switched to Sprint this month my 3G hasn't been faster than 600kpbs (on an extremely lucky day). It is more common to be between 100-300 kbps and I think that is a ripoff with an Everything Data Plan.
Anyone share my experience or have better numbers to provide?
Wish I knew out to check it, but dont know how. Im an android newbie. I can say this, every since switching to Sprint from both Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, I have actually received better 3g signals and coverage at the workplace. If you show me how to check I will check.
I am receiving better 3g than before.
That seems about right to me... I actually am lucky to get that high on a speed test... Seems fairly fast when surfing or downloading from the market though. I agree that it seems a bit low.

I would kill for those speeds? Where are you at Dukins if you don't mind me asking? I live in Carmel and work over by the Pyramids so I'm mostly always on the North side.
I am lucky to ever be able to get 600kbps, I'm more likely to have 300kbps down or even 130ish. I have no clue why my 3g is so slow.
Edit: I just ran a test and got 95kbps downstream and 734kbps upstream.......
dukins: can you go to your dialer and type ##33284# then click 1X Engineering and tell me what number is listed for SID? It is most likely 4135

SID is the ID of the tower you are connecting to.
I work in Indy and have been trying to figure out what is going too. I was wondering if it was my custom ROM or because I updated my radio? Or if it was just the EVO itself.
The speed I'm getting is killing me right now! I know my speeds aren't as slow outside of Indy where I live.
Kind of annoyed that I'm paying extra and my download speeds are slower on my EVO than they were on my Hero.
Was wishing to have 4G....but hell I'd be happy with a decent 3G at this point!!!
I get crap speeds anywhere in Carmel/Westfield; bad Sprint towers in northern Indianapolis.
I talked to a Sprint Tech Support Rep who gave my phone a "network refresh". Sounded like bullsh*t, but afterwards I've been getting great speeds where I have a good signal. I've been getting up to 1.4mbps in downtown Carmel and in Broadripple.
Also she said we are getting 2 new towers on the north side of Indy, one off Hazel Dell Pkwy in August, and another in Westfield in December.
Well, I was a couple of miles from downtown this morning sitting at standstill in pouring rain and traffic. Did a speedtest and got around 1.5 MBPS down! I was happy with that.
However, when I was back at work...it was under 400k. Guess maybe it could be my office building?

I get similar speeds around my office (and nearby restaurants). I work up by the pyramids on the NW side of Indy.
I'm getting 1.4mbps down and 321kbps up on the north west side right now. I tested last night around the kessler/meridian area and got ~600kbps both ways.
What did you do for a network refresh?
Hey guys, so i was driving home from the mall like an hour ago and i turned on my 4g cause i heard theyre getting it in northern VA.
anyways i had 1-2 circles of 4g!!!

same except in my house
route 7 runs past my street
on my street i dont have any but on route 7 i have signal its weird
In Clarendon and Courthouse neighborhoods of Arlington I get about 2mbps...
Not particularly spectacular, but the high speeds and faster phone makes it way faster than my iPhone 3G.
Virginia has 4G before Colorado? What is wrong with this picture.............
I live in herndon and I get 1 to2 bars averaging 2+ mbps not spectacular but faster then ATT.

The signal strength is really just your strength to the tower, not your connection to the internet, just FYI I have had higher speeds with 1-2 bars than with a full signal. Anyway there are some spots in Houston, TX near where I work that I can get ~8-10Mbps down on, but I usually average about half that. Here are some pics, also btw a download test is a bit more accurate than those "speed tests" they can lie to you sometimes.

Yup. Northern VA, Richmond, Hampton Roads >>>> Colorado . We don't have any 4G here in Hampton Roads that I know of yet (no Evo til Monday), but there is a new Clearwire antenna/tower near my girlfriends house. I hope there are many more of those to come and soon.
I want them to put one in in Springfield. That's where my office is and 4G would be awesome!

That's good to hear. I wish Sprint would give us a real roadmap of their 4G rollout. There's no point in hiding it when people know the towers are there and are getting 4G signals.

I have been able to get WiMAX in Manassas on 234 near the Barnes and Noble. Also, just up the road in Centreville at 66 & 28. Good thing too because in both or those areas the 3G service is terrible. This is one main reason holding me back from upgrading to the Evo LTE or the Galaxy SIII since I will no longer have 4G.
Just wanted to let any of you Orange County, CA katz know that I am able to get a 1 bar signal inside my office in Cypress, CA. I havent gone outside this morning to test out there.
Speedtest - 4.69MB down and .75MB up.
anyone else?
That's good news. I work in Cypress too and always saw Clearwire antennas but was wondering when they would be finally turned on. Too bad I returned my Evo already.
Confirmed
Getting 3 4g bars and last speed test was
3.9mb down but only like 300k up.
Seems to be jumping around a lot, but the lowest down was 1.7mb.

Browsing through a bunch of threads reveals a few people mentioning changing their Home Agent on their CDMA phones to improve their data connection. How does it improve it?
- Lower ping times
- A bit higher 3G data speeds
I ran 5 speed tests with the default Home Agent and 5 speed tests with the Home Agent I've set, and I'm consistently seeing about a 20% increase in data speed and ~2/3 shorter ping times. I normally get about 4-500kbps down with 350ms ping times, and now I get about 600kbps down with 120ms ping times. (With 2 bars max coverage in my home, sometimes losing coverage completely)
The Home Agent can be thought of as the default gateway on a home network. It tells the phone which exit node to use when exiting Sprint's network and jumping onto the internet.
By default, the Home Agent is set to 255.255.255.255. This works and gives you a data connection, and figures out the "best" home agent to use, but it's really not ideal since it seems to always go to the Kansas exit node.
You'll need a couple things to change your Home Agent. First is your MSL, which can be found by calling Sprint or using MSL Reader on the market. Second off, you'll need the nearest Home Agent to your current location:
Code:
68.28.57.76 Anaheim, CA Area 1
68.28.57.77 San Jose, CA Area 7 (possible DNS config issue, likely Anaheim)
68.28.185.76 Atlanta, GA Area 5
68.28.185.77 Atlanta, GA Area 5
(speedtest.net says in Houston)
68.28.249.76 Atlanta, GA Area 7
68.28.249.77 Atlanta, GA Area 7
68.28.145.76 Chicago, IL Area 4
68.28.145.77 Chicago, IL Area 4
68.28.177.76 Fort Worth, TX Area 7
68.28.177.77 Kansas City, KS Area 5 (possible DNS config issue, likely Ft. Worth)
68.28.81.76 Kansas City, KS Area 2
68.28.81.77 Kansas City, KS Area 2
(could be Omaha)
68.28.89.76 Kansas City, MO Area 2
68.28.89.77 Kansas City, MO Area 2
68.28.121.76 New York, NY Area 3
68.28.121.77 New York, NY Area 3
68.28.113.76 Pennsauken, NJ Area 3
68.28.113.77 Pennsauken, NJ Area 3
68.28.241.76 Relay, MD Area 7
68.28.241.77 Relay, MD Area 7
(speedtest.net says in Florida)
68.28.153.76 Roachdale, IN Area 4
68.28.153.77 Roachdale, IN Area 4
68.28.49.76 San Jose, CA Area 1
68.28.49.77 San Jose, CA Area 1
To change your Home Agent:
1. Root your phone
2. Install MSL Reader
3. Read and write down MSL
4. Open dialer, dial ##3282# (##DATA#)
5. EPST menu opens, select Edit.
6. Enter MSL, hit OK
7. Select "Data Profile"
8. Tap "Primary Home Agent"
9. Type selected IP into boxes, hit OK
10. Tap "Menu", then "Commit Changes"
11. Phone will restart and you should be able to see lower pings and faster data!
Note: This only works on Sense-based ROMs since AOSP roms do not have EPST settings in them that allow tweaking these settings.
Note2: You can edit this if you are not rooted, you just need to con Sprint into giving you your MSL.

I'll have to go through and update these. The list was compiled over three years ago and probably needs updating. You're not the first person to point out that some of the locations are incorrect.
Apparently the NY HA is in Maryland and the NJ HA is in Brooklyn, NY! List will be updated later!
Did this a while ago.
My secondary was set correctly so I switched my secondary to primary and primary to secondary.
Are those all the home agents? Or are you just listing those because they pertain to you? is it possible to get a list for texas?
thanks!

Thank you! I checked and my primary was 255.255.255.255 and the secondary was the home agent it should be using. I've noticed that google will usually think my phone is in Chicago, so I'm guessing when left to decide on it's own it always chose the chicago home agent and not the one an hour away from here. I swapped the primary and secondary home agents and downstream went from ~600kbps to ~1300kbps. I tested both configs three times each and those are the rough averages.

On stock was pulling 2000 down with ping of around 220 and uploads where around 650. After changing to the Forth Worth one and the one stated as being Houston (where I live) couldn't get above 1300 down with ping around 290. Primary Home Agent was the 255 while the secondary was Fort Worth as stock. Ran all the tests off the Austin server which has consistently shown to be the best one near my location. Now I didn't change my secondary home agent when testing different primary home agent. Not sure if that should matter but I wouldn't think so.
what would you choose for la

Can this change be implemented on sense roms, committed to memory then nandroid back to aosp? From my understanding these sort of settings (prl, slot index etc.) r not affected by a rom flash nd settings should keep but just r not conveniently editable in aosp. Correct me if im wrong.

That's the theory behind it. It would take someone setting it on a Sense ROM, flashing to AOSP, then flashing back to Sense to verify all stayed the same. I'm not quite sure where it's saved, but I'm definitely going to assume it's stored in the same place the PRL is.
Interesting thread. I live in Tallahassee, Florida, do you think it would still serve me to change mine to Atlanta, GA, since that would still be a good bit closer than Kansas?
I'm always looking to increase my 3G speeds, since I seem to average around -90 to -100 DB's in my area, definitely serviceable, but still a bit slow.
Of course, it should be easy to revert back to the 255 home agent using the same method if it proves problematic, correct?
Also, what's the best method to use for speed tests? I know the speedtest.net app can be a bit inconsistent.
Sorry for all the questions, thanks!
http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed?jisok=1
Click that for a good speed test, I messed around with it a little, I get the best speeds with the original settings.
For what it's worth, my default "Secondary" is 68.28.241.76 and I am in Ocala, Florida. We don't have 4G yet, so these are all 3G numbers.
With using 255.255.255.255 or 68.28.241.76 as my "Primary", I get the same results. I will probably try some of the other HAs (Atlanta and the other 68.28.241 for starters).
Using Speedtest.net for Android (Macclenny, FL and Tampa, FL with same results), I get ~600kbps both directions. I am an average of 412ms for pings as well.
I tried the DSL Reports Mobile Speed Test and got an average of ~675kbps (Lows in 400, Highs in 900).
I have read reports (and reports are very anecdotal) saying that others' 3G speeds are averaging in the 1000kbps range. Anyone, particularly in Florida, having that sort of luck?
