It would be very difficult to make something worse.

OK so I am in the dark ages even though I have an iphone and a SGT i use parallels and load w2k for my windows needs.
Unfortunately I can't load Kies without XP or later. I know there used to be a way to trick Windows XP into thinking it was W2K, Is there a way to trick the Kies that I am on XP?

I just tried the link and it's Kies_2.0.0.11011_16_5.exe dated 6th Jan.
And at 95MB download, much less than older the KIES.
Its on support page http://www.samsung.com/pt stating Galaxy Tab

So I have downloaded the new version, installed and and I still get the "Connect device in the Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode."
I've searched all over and can't figure this one out as my Verizon Tab doesn't have that mode anywhere...

I have tried running Kies from all the above links and none work. Everyone says device not supported getting a little ticked off. I wanted to keep one of my tabs stock and one gianny pig but it looks like I have flash roms on both to stay curent
Yup same here (least on vista 32bit at work) ...2x downloads and not working here (get an access error on startup).
I will try again at home on win7 64 to see if i have more success there.
Still stuck on stock firmware here as i have a Tesco's Unbranded tab ..It's not network locked, but not updatable yet either!

Wow, thanks for the tip, this is indeed _way_ quicker (about 30-fold...) !
I'm running Win7 64bit and it works fine.
New UI is much better imo. Have not played much but it has a emergency firmware recovery option and now has an itunes playlist importer.
Says I have latest firmware (JK5)
try it on my XP cause fille missing error. Now I am not able to reboot my XP.

is your debugging mode enabled? or or you pressing the home screen after connecting the tab to PC?

No. It isn't enabled. BTW, KIES recognizes Debug mode and asks to switch to PC studio. Tried that.
I neither touch home, nor do anything. I tried to reinstall drivers etc. Nothing helps.
Could it be a side effect of rooting process I performed yesterday?
This is the only thing that comes to my mind. I wasn't able to install it on my other computer. Installation failed. I will try my wife's notebook tonight. But it runs W7 and it would be not so fare comparison.
I use the kies on windows 7 and my tab is rooted too. No prob so far.

No, I didnt get the update notice........... the funny thing is that when i am manually selecting to upgrade, Kies is telling me that "this device's version cannot be upgraded"

must be like you say, but the site doesnt match your info. For me its my first sammy device so cant confirm the build date of this NPS
I installed this under WinXP Pro SP3 and it indicates NPS v1.5.10064_2. However, it still doesn't work right. I get the message "An unregistered model has been connected. Communications cannot proceed." But it does see the mass storage devices.

I am running stock JI6. This device has never been rooted or flashed. It was a replacement when my old one broke, it came prebuilt with J16 on it.
Where can I find the kies that works with the vibrant? The one I found on Google said my device was not compatible.

I am also running KA6 and get the unregistered device on mini kies.
On Twitter there's a lot of talk about Froyo being pushed via Kies rather than OTA so.. who knows. No confirmation on there either if anyone has gotten it.
Well, on my old device I used Mini Kies to get JI6 because it seemed like forever to receive it OTA. Hopefully they do it the same way this time with froyo.
Im just odin'ed back to stock. When I did kies gave me the latest firmware update which restored my phone to like it was when I got it a few weeks ago. Now kies says unregistered device. Is this normal? Will I be able to update to the new firmware?
Update: Now showing I have latest version 11/01/2010.

get a VM and load 32bit Windows and try it. I couldn't get Kies to work on 32Bit Win7 but it worked in Windows XP.

No. Kies Mini works on the PC only.
You might have to run a virtual machine, or go to a friends house.

Seems to be exact copy (at least UI) of Windows version.
Is it fully functional, like Win version? Last time I tried to use KIES mini on my iMac and get the information, that my phone (SGS2) is not supported.

Well the Mac version only has options to Sync Music/Videos/Podcasts. Thats it.
Theres no Samsung App Store inbuilt and also I don't see any option for Firmware Download settings or Emergency Firmware Recovery or Install Drivers settings.
So the Mac version seems highly limited in comparison to Windows one.

when I connect my sgs2 on it they has found my device and found the fw I got in my phone + the newest FW on samsung, but in kies mac say can't update fw and wait for the official kies on mac first !! wierd I think this is official when they put this app in to there website??

Can you brick a phone using a firmware-flashing utility which let's you overwrite your phone's internal drives with random binary files? Yes.
That said, I find Odin much easier and much more reliable than Kies.

yes u can brick urs phone in a any fw update as kies or odin but samsung factory using odin as well and not that user app Kies! and odin can u flash to new FW or reflash to old version if the new version is bugged , if u brick wont start op så try using odin for reflash and u phone will be new again

This did not come up when pressing Check for updates in my 2.0.0 version. So you have to manually download from samsung.com.

I used kies to update to the latest gingerbread. And all the errors encountered before by flashing manually to gingerbread using odin are not there anymore. It is always good to be "official" sometimes....
But then, all the thrill is lost...

you used kies , i never install kies for any purpose .. only for DRIVERS ... and trust me , most guys around here they ain't use the kies even the damn CDs came with box ain't work

Upgraded & Sync'g
Installed the update obtained from the German site and all went well.
I did have my P1010 USB attached during the update (actually, it uninstalled the prior version first) then sync'd my calendar & notes from Outlook 2003. The 1st sync done in this version is STILL running, is in its 2nd pass, and taking a lot longer than the prior version, perhaps going through some set-up or ??. Will add to this post when check out the sync
Done, took about 30 minutes so hope this was related to the newer version but .... Worked as expected

Same problem here. Also tried the 'Install drivers' option from one of the menus, but no change...

Unfortunately the Kies mac version is in beta or something. It won't allow firmware upgrade. As a macbook user I had to install bootcamp

Sigh... I had a feeling it might have been something like that. Very disappointing. Why have a linux based OS rely on Windows for updates ?? Samsung should be doing OTAs like HTC. I guess I'll have to dual boot now too.

make sure you disable USB debugging and you're on the Kies screen on your GS2, then it will connect

I cant get kies on mac to update my firmware either. which sucks cos I dont have a windows machine lying around I can use.
Really bites the big wazoo...MBP i7 2.7 GHz and a fancy 2.3.3 S2 but I can't get a firmware upgrade, Odin or Kies
I suppose this will be resolved in the near future?...Any other way than bootcamp/parallels?
I have a legit copy of windows 7 running in VirtualBox, but I haven't gotten around to making the USB ports work (it's a PITA to do), and even if I could make it work, I don't think I'd trust those ports to hang on all the way through the flash process using Kies, as the Kies software is bad enough already. I seem to remember reading about another bit of software you can use on the mac to reflash an SGS, but I think i'll just wait for the mac version of Kies to come out. If it doesn't, oh well, I'm starting to like the Droid RAZR a lot, and there are a lot of other nice phones out there too that have better support than Samsung is giving us these days.
BTW, I must say I like OS X a LOT. This is my first mac in 20 years (I was POed at Jobs and vowed I wouldn't get another until he croaked). I'm starting to think I might get an Iphone 5 if it's nice and thin when it comes out. Apple certainly has the "it just works" thing down. Don't get me wrong, I love hacking away at things, but my real life has become so busy that sometimes I just need things to "just work."
