Already dicsussed in another thread ..sorry guys ..wasnt there when i last refreshed.
Bit overexcited i guess
beat me to it haha
I still want to know if the next update is based on 2.1 or 2.2
If its true then really great.
Would have been nice to have seen some pictures of it.
yes they have. i love it! sony ftw!
Awesome news!
is there an official release date yet?
thats a bad news i think - it confirms - no gbread for x10
That was what i was afraid of, FroYo means no Gingerbread :/
But i'm going to probably find a way to do an upgrade to one of SE's newly announced handsets with Rogers as i'm sure they'll carry at least one of them.
Wow. Re-read the engadget liveblog. It says this:
4:51PM They keep showing the Xperia X10 on the screen. Now shown: a Froyo upgrade for the Xperia X10. UPDATE: This was a terrible joke, ruined by a typo. It was supposed to say "Not shown." Our apologies -- liveblogging is a rough game.
Xperia X10 = No Froyo? I don't know. I will bet XDA Devs will make a fully Functioning/working Froyo Rom before SE does.

Yes this was a typo! No 2.2!
ok so its still up in the air
but this could be a good thing we may still get gignerbread
you wait til MWC 2011
yes i hope for froyo, still beter then get stuck on eclair, i know there i custom rom but it is based on eclair kernel so it is great news, i hope they will enable doubletouch, 16m colors and acces to full RAM(360MB or something).

Updated statement from Engadget about Froyo on X10 in CES cant be true! do we have Horn?
Compare:
1- Now shown: a Froyo upgrade for the Xperia X10
2- Not shown: a Froyo upgrade for the Xperia X10 (Updated)
if statment 2 be true:
- statement 2 means that Engadget had known that X10 must be upgrade to Froyo
I think SE wants Engadget to change their statement.
I hope that there will be a 2.2 update. But at the same time i don't care if it will not come as long as my mobile is working well and doing what its supposed to do.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
This is bad news indeed.. all the time it was just a typo !! Hopefully someone else at CES would be able to scoop on the status of X10 - (Abandoned/Hope/In the Game)
wow i was getting extremely excited. I hope atleast the update 2 brings back the old messaging app and the light blue wallpaper no the current dark blue one.
damn it! i had my hopes high now they ruined it!

2.2 is wonderful! X10 can handle it very well!
let's e-mail to SE to express our idea!
if the x10 can be rooted, does that mean that we technically would be able to run froyo on it ? 2.2
i hope so .
Yeah, i saw some vidoes of 2.2 on youtube and i was left feeling really jealous of the nexus one people that will get it!

we willnever get it without root
look at the company that respect their customers http://www.gsmarena.com/all_the_latest_htc_android_phones_will_get_the_froyo_treatment-news-1674.php after only one day of announcement of the new android ,they announced that all their devices will get it before the end of the year ,(ofcource you all know which company iam talking about )
ok,
froyo looks good, very good.
2.1 in Q2010/4 and 2.2 in Q2011/1 for x10 makes no sense.
That means there are a some reasons why SE could stick to 2.1/Q4:
- SE plans a X10 sucessor for Q4 with froyo (including multitouch)
- google wants to have a clean froyo/hardware base, which could mean all f froyo-devices should have multitouch
- ?
- SE is cool or clever enough (like HTC) and announce 2.2/froyo for all X10 device-classes and cancels the 2.1 update

from where didi you got your info SE didnot canclled 2.1 never said any thing about 2.2
especially since its just been announced that flash will need 2.2 as a minumum.

problem is, companies are not as stupid as we sometimes thinks. they just make sometimes the wrong desicions.
the x10 has no multi/dualtouch maybe the big screen & dual/multi was (last year) to expensive/not avaible.
To annouce 2.1 two weeks before google I/O is also very stupid, because everyone knows that 2.2 will come at google I/O
... so there must be a reason, maybe a reason SE knows before (e.g. google wants froyo only on multitouch devices, maybe,
look, there is no HTC Legend in the HTC - 2.2 update list) so SE had to announce 2.1 before google I/O . If this is correct we only can hope ...
Second time in my life i have to thank adobe, because flash 10.1 needs 2.2 and this could change everything.
The X10 devices (mini, etc.) and SE cannot survive beside the desire/nexus without flash ... so next week(s), we will see ...
I sincerely hope that Sony Ericsson Xperia to update to Froyo, because if do not update, Sony will be out of the game.
Consumers are not stupid. Not sell any telephone.
I will never again buy a Sony product.
The truth and we really know this already is that we will not see an official update from Sony to the xperia x10 in 2010.
We really need to face this and realize its just NOT going to happen. I am not being negative just realistic.
Our only hope is for the guys on the development side come up with a way to root the x10 and get it to run froyo. But an official update from Sony is VERY unlikely!

Yeah, I hope google isn't trying to set a baseline for 2.2+ with multitouch as a requirement.
But I do agree with this. Flash could just save us...
Oh and cmboud, we will see an update from SE this year. The problem is if it is the update we want or not
Maybe it sounds stupid but how about a petition? As long its post on multiple forums we can get lots of people, what you think?I willing to start it,just need someone to write me a good intro for it since my english is not the best as you probably have noticed.
It sounds like a good idea but I'm pretty sure it's something that they already know, of COURSE we want the latest and greatest, that's why we choose this phone most likely.
I don't belive a petition will resolve anything in our favour - if they could announce 2.2 they would - it would sell more handsets!
my .02
On a norwegian mobile site mobilen.no, stated:
HTC say they will make 2.2 available on phones that are launched this year, writes Phandroid.com.
The Sony Ericsson says the long term will make 2.2 available for its Xperia X10 models. Here we are waiting still on version 2.1.
http://mobilen.no/wip4/fullt-godbiter-android-2-2/d.epl?id=44606
How long we (X10 owners) have to wait? *Wondering*
An online petition could be a great thing if we wouldn't talk about SE. What do you think will happen? Where to send this petition?
Send it to SE vie email?
Hmmm let me think we will get an answer like "Thank you for your opinion, try to update your x10 via SEUS...blablabla"
Call the Support and inform them about the petition?
The answer would be something like "Don't believe the internet!! The X10 works fine. Try an Update via SEUS... blablabla"
What should we write into that petition? Give us 2.2?
Answer "There will be an Update to 2.1 in Q4... Thank you"
Fix the battery issues
Answer "Thank you very much for your contact, there will be an update try SEUS... blablabla"
Or better "Battery issues? Don't belive the internet!"
I think it's very poor that such a big company doen't care at all about their customers. If SE doen't come up with some ass kicking updates in the next months this was my last SE device.
Got this link from Facebook lol.
What do you guys think?

Quote
"Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Motorola are also working on updating the firmware in their respective Android products. Samsung in the US recently confirmed that it will upgrade its Galaxy S series of devices to 2.2 but did not specify a timeline, while Sony Ericsson has committed to a Q4 release of the update for the Xperia X10 and X10 mini. Motorola is the only manufacturer to be planning a handset with 2.2 installed out of the box, with the US-only Droid X handset to ship with Froyo in the coming weeks."
I think the above just referring to 2.1 update in both Q3 and Q4 as SE blogs has clearly stated that out. They never mentioned any words about froyo update, and they dont even say anything that they have started working on froyo yet.....so looks like it will be another long wait on that.
Don't believe on whatever the press has said. Don't you remember that there were news of Rachael coming with Eclair instead of 1.6? Or 'reliable sources' claiming that Rachael supports multitouch despite official announcements?
Even till now, a certain site is still having Rachael for sale, with 'Android 2.0' as part of the spec.
Sometimes when they get news that there will be an update, they assume that it's gonna be the latest, like everyone else.
I still believe the upgrade is 2.1.
Unless Sony Ericsson itself states otherwise.

Android 2.2 Froyo, UXP & Multitouch for Xperia X10 in Q1 2011
Real or Fake?
http://gadgets.apnafundaz.com/2010/11/android-2-2-froyo-uxp-multitouch-for-xperia-x10-in-q1-2011-bert-nordberg-ceo-sony-ericsson-or-fake-id/
Oh God, I hope that's not your website, because that design is absolutely hideous, the writing is terrible, the site is over-cluttered with ads, and he doesn't even link to the original tweet.
Also: Look at the actual twitter account.
First hint it's fake? The writing is grammatically poor.
Second (more obvious hint it's fake): "Twitter for Blackberry", because he wouldn't use his own products on Android or Symbian
Third hint: It's not a Verified Account
Fourth hint: All the people he's following are Indonesian. Do you think the CEO of a Global Company would only follow a bunch of people from Indonesia?
Anyway, it looks like some ****stirrer trying to stir up some ****. Sigh.
Yeah fake and the website sucks too. My browser stuck
Now that's what I like to call a Suckathon.
Umm there actually is a multitouch update coming out in Q1 2011... that part was not fake.
That twitter account already disappeared so yeah, fake.
And leave Manish's site alone
i can live with single touch... anyway, i'm have been using my x10 single handedly...
I have heard the same thing from a friend that work at SE in Sweden actualy, but it´s still just a rumor. She can not tell me exactly what it is because she knows that i hang around forums like this and she do not trust me that i wont tell. I have also heard that it is a chance that android 2.3 will be on x10 in the beginning of next year. But it is just rumor, SE is good to keep there secrets.

UK SE on facebook confirmed the twitter account is fake......
From the "official" blog on the SE site:
Pinch Zoom "The timing for this update is still a bit work in progress but it will for most markets be during Q1 next year" Here for full details http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/2010/11/17/work-ongoing-on-pinch-zoom-for-xperia-x10/ there are some limitations on function.

Did they deny what's coming in the update though? Would really like just 2.2 on x10...
Multi-touch is real and there is another update coming out in Q1 2011... though it isn't 2.2. It's just an expansion to the current 2.1. will probably change our firmware version from 2.1 Update-1 to 2.1 Update-2 or something.
I label this as FAKE
While I was browsing, I found this!!!
http://www.slashgear.com/sony-ericsson-confirm-no-froyo-for-xperia-x10-06123921/
they said there will be no froyo or gingerbread update for the Xperia Line up!!! Ohno!!!
We all know that. It`s confirmed after the announce of the Xperia Arc
wow
that is like news old like 6 months... even sony-ericsson guy on their blog wrote that... becouse they are pushing some new PSP phone... or something like that...
so sadddddd
not dev related, moved to general
Best, DK
SE don't want to update their current android phones because of marketing.
people will have to buy xperia arc to get android 2.3. good for their bussiness. this is how it's work.

That's how it works for them, not necessarily for the rest of the industry.
There are phones with worse hardware than the Xperia series which have been given Android 2.2 updates.
IOTW, they **** on their current customers and profit on them. Nothing else.
Its not everything bad.
We can get all that have 2.2 by root phone and we will get multytouch actually we already get it.
They uploaded firmware with multytouch.

please support us,for new fw updates for the X8 and X10 family
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=904941
I am for.
What I find most annoying is that SE seems to have forgotten they made the x8 entirely.
I'm not even sure if the x8 is considered "part of the x10 family" or not. I can make semi-informed guesses, but there's no official word to clarify this.
thats bad....
Sony mentioned the x10, mini and mini pro and forgot to mention the X8..??
either they r gonna bring froyo to X8 (which i m think is never gonna happen) or they dont think X8 is important enough to mention..!!
I had tweeted SEAnswers about the Xperia X8 and this is what they had to say, I quote "There may be updates to software, however we will not be upgrading past 2.1 OS".Check the Discussions on their Facebook page, no further updates to the Android version.
So... since the x8 was originally intended to launch with 2.1, this pretty much makes the life-span of this particular device... Dead on Arrival.
It's a fine device, but the policy that comes with it is just utter rubbish.

Its simply just a fancy way to say: Your phone's too old and i can't be bothered supporting it. It's true anyway... i
An old excuse used by SE back in the days of 2.1 "the X10 isn't powerful enough to handle 2.3.3 gingerbread"
Hopefully we'll see a change in attitude by Sony [not Ericsson]

Don't expect much..
If any of their "we are going for cash this year" statements are to go by.
As long as they don't purge DURRR HURRR devices on people... i'm ok with it.
I believe that's why the x10 was a abortion.... going for cash...
