Is there anything I can do to allow the phone to be in HSPA more often? My fiancee has a Mytouch 4g and I have the G2, her phone is almost always in HSPA and mine seems to always be in Edge, even when we are next to eachother. Is this a known issue???
Try this *#*#INFO#*#* this is the phone testing option. Try turning radio off and on and set it to wcdma preferred that could get you bettter speed . Also give us more info. Are yo rooted? Which radio are you using stuff like that.

Thanks for the quick response, I'm running 100% stock tmobile rom.
The *#*#info#*#* says wcdma preferred. Not sure what radio Im running, could you guide me on how I can tell?
Seperate issue but the bluetooth on this phone is HORRIBLE!!!! Everyone always complains that they have a bad echo/cant hear me/it is crackly. Ive tried a jawbone 2 and a jabra bt-350. The jawbone is marginally better than the jabra but really the bluetooth is unusable!
My phone is on EDGE 100% of the time!

Forget "preferred"... set it to wcdma ONLY, but it will NEVER connect to EDGE.... but sorry, you can't have it both ways.
I don't know anything about the MT4G, so I'm jyst guessing here. But is it really in HSPA or is it just reporting that wrongly ?
You can always try flashing a different radio (see the radio thread in the dev forum) to see if that improves your reception.
I presume your phone has the right hardware bands for your carrier, i.e. you're not trying to use a G2 on, say, AT&T, which will stay on Edge at best because the phone doesn't have the right hardware radio bands to do 3G.

After doing a Hard Flash for the first time from 1.43 to 148 and rebooting my HD2. Within several minutes my reception speed would change from 3G to GPRS and back again while on the go, this has never happen before and was wondering is there a way to have consistent 3G speed/reception or was there a fault during my flash?
Any suggestions or help would most helpful.

Did you flash with SSPL / Gold card or with the HDSPL in-tacked?
EITHER WAY:
Press Phone Key>Options>GSM/UMTS Services:
Here select Band....then, "Get Settings"
The first tab should say GSM. Drop down menu option you want is WCDMA. This will force 3G all the time. However I don't recommend this setting as this will consume more battery.
Leaving it in 2G saves more battery and voice quality doesn't change....
hi,
maybe you flashed the radio part of the rom also, when you flash from 1.43 to 1.48?. im not sure, but you should check out this htc update, and try it. its a replacement for the radio portion of your rom only, and maybe fixing your problems. my singnal strengh has stoped to swing between full and no bars, and i have full bars most of the time, with this update.
regards mad.

Stock Roms include the Radio so if there was a change between one stock and the other then a change will occur...
There is nothing wrong with the radio band switching automatically though so unless you have bad reception, everything should be fine.

Hi! I have been browsing the Nexus One forums for a while now, but I seem to have a strange problem.
I had a Nexus One that was working fine, but there was a piece of dust under my screen. It switched to HSDPA, and I had none of the issues that I have now. I sent it to HTC, but they didn't want to repair it, because it was rooted. I think they flashed something into the phone, because ever since the internet connection is very buggy. 3G (UMTS) didn't cause any problems then, but now if I hold my hand at the bottom of the nexus, connection indicator lowers (Cell Viewer: ranging from -1 to 8). When I hold the phone up int he air the connection varies between 14 and 24 (UMTS). The phone doesn't switch to HSDPA AT ALL!
I tried the hsxpa-tweak in build.prop, but it didn't help. I am using Cyans latest stable. I have wiped, installed stock, upgraded to cyan again, and tried staying on the stock rom, to no avail.
Is there something really stupid that I am not seeing? Or would it mean that the transporter has damaged my phone antenna by dropping it? :O
What makes you believe you're not getting HSDPA? Have you tested the actual speed of your connection? Keep in mind, on an unrooted Nexus One, your signal indicator will always show 3G even when HSDPA is active. It only shows the H when you're using a custom ROM.
Also, the signal fluctuation when covering the bottom of the phone is well documented at this point. It's normal.
HSDPA is only active when the network deems you need it, it'll just sits on 3G all other times.
Funny..I'm on HSPA all the time when on 3G..never saw UMTS not one. Yet on a cliq I saw UMTS...

I used Cell Viewer to test signal type. I was consistantly on HSDPA before it got sent in to HTC.

Also, check which Radio Firmware you have installed now. If you have 32.26.00.24U_4.04.00.03_2 installed, try downgrading to 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2.

Hmm... I've had a look at that thread, thanks for the pointer!
Too bad I'm in Europe . I changed to US, JAPAN, AUS and EURO, but it didn't help . I'll try the same with the .03 radio. I've flashed both the .03 and .04 radio's before, but not together with the instructions at the end of the mentioned thread.
ok i seriously need some help. MODs please delete this if you feel like it. but i really want to know the answer for this since i posted it in the OT but no one replied.
my problem is signal issue with the EVO roms. specially from Mdeejay EVO roms
i downloaded the cayanogen rom and i have no problem with the signal " specially if i use it in 2G connection. its almost all the time full bars. while on 3g it sometimes varies between 2, 3 or full.
however, with Mdeejay eVo Sense v. 1.6 Revolution" and the other "warm evo" rom the he made. i do have the signal problem .
it sometimes show to me no bars at all just dots. even tho, if i call, or someone call, it goes through ...i think lol
it keeps on playing with the bars.
whats up with that? i am using a Tmobile version of the phone. " no i am not in US but i wanted extra ram/rom
i have been told that the HD Euro version has better signal. is that bs ?
anyway please please please someone help me with my question about the signal. its killing me. i love this rom so much i want to keep it. even the wallpapers are ****ing amazing. but this signal bar thing is driving me crazy
Honestly man i can't help you! I have signal issues also in all Android roms! I don't think Euro HD2 has a better signal!!! At least mine doesn't!
I feel so bad when i see an old nokia with a full signal and mine is 1 bar or none! I tried radio 2.12, 2.14, and 2.15 all the same and signal fluctuates a lot!
But i should tell you this: I like your nickname a lot!

all i do is just change the andriod roms by changing the folder on SD card and it does the rest lol.

I have the same problem with m-deejay builds.

I've tried to solve it by using darkstone's kernel but this does not work as well.
Others have this problem as well if you search in m-deejay's threads. I think you should try solving your problem there

ok i downloaded a program called no signal bar. from the market place.
it basically notify you when your phone is out of coverage.
and it works very well. so now. if i get a no signal bar from the rom, my signal notifier tell me that the phone is didnt lost signal. i try to make a call and it goes through. its accurate.
so i am happy for now. at least i am not afaird if losing signals when i see the fake bars from the rom playing .
i even tried to call my self when the signal no bars while the program " no signal bar"tells me i still have coverage. and it went through . i am happy panda... for now till i get a better fix for this
3G does not work when the bars are not displayed.

1- for some reason this number doesnt work for me. i am using Tmobile HD2 and the Evo Rom . might have anything to do with it ?
2- i really dont care about 3g. i just dont want the signal bar to keep showing there is no signal with its 4 dots crap signal when there is in fact a very good signal.
its like how the iphone 4 used to display signal that is not true.
are we the only 2 here who have this problem ? lol might be defective phones? lol
you can install the program called NETWORK from App store and basically change the setting to GSM (PRL) from that program

i have tried around 3 builds so far or 4.
the only builds that has perfect signal bar to me is Cayanogen Builds " where in the setting there is an option called " Use only 2G networks " and have that checked.
any other version " specially if its build based on EVO ? " has a problem for me.
i am surprised not many are talking about this really.

NEW METHOD!!!!
1. Make sure you are on CDMA/EVDO Auto
2. Switch to LTE CDMA/EVDO and you prolly wont get a signal but run fix permissions
3. Switch back to CDMA and reboot
4. When you are back from reboot wait for solid 3g and then switch to 4g
5. profit ??
Hope this may help some of you!
After many hours of trying different combinations of radios, PRL versions, wiping to stock and back, along with the help of PackFanJason, I have figured out how to get 4G on CM after the VZW Fiasco.
Just follow these steps and you should* be able to get 4G first try!
1) You will need to obviously be on test 4 of Cyanogenmod.
2) Next you will want to grab this radio ( http://db.tt/8bCSwWr ) This is the stock radio, for some reason you MUST BE ON THIS RADIO. My guess is that VZW set the towers to only look for this specific version to connect for 4G.
3) Place that on the root of your sdcard and make sure that it is named just PG105IMG.zip ( I dont remember the exact number ) or whatever just the last part of the file name is.
4) IMPORTANT STEP before flashing the radio in HBOOT, make sure that your have your wireless setting on CDMA/EVDO AUTO, NOT LTE/CDMA EVDO Auto. I flashed it this way the first time and it didnt work.
5) If you have done all of the above, you can now go into HBOOT and flash the radio
6) Upon reboot make sure that you let the phone sit for ~3 minutes while everything sets itself up, one you have waited go to the wireless settings again and switch it to LTE/CDMA EVDO Auto. If you lose signal right away, you did something wrong from above and repeat the process. Most if not all of your will see the 4G icon pop up and VOILA
**Some suggestions if it doesnt work**
Some suggest running Fix Permissions via Rom Manager with the 4G setting turned on and then rebooting.
If it does not work the first time do not flame the thread, each phone is different no matter what you say. Everyone has changed things a little different each time so this is for the majority
As always if you have questions hit me up on Twitter or in IRC at #slayher on freenode.
Making a backup of my Tesla rom now so I can give this a shot. Thanks for your research and help.
EDIT: File name for radio should be PG05IMG.zip

Ok, I restored my CM7 backup (not a clean install).
Downloaded radio in OP, put it on root of SD card, renamed it.
Changed network mode to CDMA / EVDO Auto.
Rebooted to make sure it stuck, made sure I had 3G.
Rebooted to bootloader, flashed radio.
Restarted phone upon prompt after radio flashed.
Waited, even though I got 3G very fast on reboot.
Changed network mode to CDMA + LTE/EvDo Auto.
Lost data, still gone.
There's nothing I did incorrectly from the OP, my phone just won't get 4G on this rom. I'm going to leave it for an hour or so and see if it picks up. If not, I'll restart the phone in LTE mode and see what happens. Thanks again, OP, it was worth a shot.
it took some time, but i have 4g on CM7 with the newer leaked radio....this may be an easier route for those of you that can't seem to get 4g though.

What do you mean when you say it took some time? Just wait upon booting the phone? Did you play with any settings?
Do you think this will help with 3G also ? . I'm in an area were 4G is not that good but 3 use to be great but on CM7 it's on and off mostly off ,i'm on stock radio :- 1.16.00.0223r

well, it's been kinda confirmed that there were still 4g issues with verizon all day yesterday so that was most likely my problem.
But in the settings i had it set to CDMA/EvDo only almost all of yesterday and was changing it to LTE periodically to see if it would work. This morning I put it on LTE and it came on the very first time.
Those steps didn't work for me. It switches to 4G briefly, then I get a complete network dropout.
I have to switch to CDMA/Evdo auto to get data back.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA Premium App
I've been able to get 4G on any radio I've tried with CM7. I just have to toggle between CDMA/EvDo and CDMA + LTE/EvDo a few times to get it to take.
What I'll normally do is to switch to CDMA/EvDo and let it get a solid 3G signal then switch over to CDMA + LTE/EvDo and after a few minutes, 4G will kick in.
Just my experience since it seems there are so many different ones.
EDIT to add state - Auburn, WA

Dear all,
My darling SGS2 oftentimes insists on staying connected to 2G antennas even though I might have absolutely full 3G coverage. This goes on for quite some time (~5 or so minutes) before I tire of it and force it into 3G only mode, after which it connects to glorious 3G our HSDPA with full bars.
Now, my question is: Is there a way to change the "weighting system" that decides when (and how fast) the phone switches to or from 2G?
Grateful for all input!
Cheers!

Ok. I will give this a try.
Try flashing different modem files. Search the forum for modem, and you should find the files easily. The difficult part is finding the right one for your network.
I used KG1 and that was pretty good for me.
Good luck.

click on [1] DEBUG SCREEN
click on [8] PHONE CONTROL

in here u could see that there is an option as to which state is chosen (( unlike forcing a single state wether it was 2g or 3g ))
the question is will it help tho... i never tried it nor tested it... please dont mess around in other menu options as they could be deadly for your phone

iv been thru a lot of incidents where i know i should have 3g and the phone is stuck on 2g and vice versa ( sometimes it would go to no signal when on 3g and not roll back to 2g only sometimes )
but mainly it works alright...
((* if you want you could try a custom rom like miui or cm, i know when i was on cm on my sgs the signal was good regarding moving to and from 2g and 3g and thats from personal experiance*))
wish u all the best and i'd recommend removing any task killers as some are too violent and close required things... id recommend using the built in task killer as it only kills normal apps and not low level ones...
