What about the S2?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Their keynote from the President is tomorrow.
Hmmm... It sure looks like a nice device. I sure hope that Samsung has all the bugs worked out by the time this hits the market and Id like to see it here in Canada as well...
I've come to really like the physical home button (missing from this new model) on the i9000 as well as that little hump at the botton of the back. Two ways to easily orrient the phone without having to look at it.
Would that 50% more subpixels really improve the text quality on the SAMOLED-plus ?
I hope they sorted out the screen burn issues..

8 MP Camera won't change much if the lens and sensor are still of the same size. Anyway always remember that your display is about 2 MP (full HD)
The best improvement is S-AMOLED+. 4.5" is also interesting, but some people will prefer smaller phones. That extra 200 MHz is better than nothing, but I hope that they also added more RAM or the performance will be about the same.
Hmm I hope something like this hits the UK. I'd love a 4.5" Galaxy S Although I'd rather wait for some major dual core phones to hit the market.
[whistle|thinks] Maybe the GSM version will be [/whistle|thinks]
4,5 inches?? Wow that's just too much, 4 inches are just perfect, but i wouldn't go any larger.. i'd like to see a 3,7 oder 4 inches superamoled+ samsung dual core 8 MP with xenon light and honeycomb android.. everything else would be just a minor upgrade ^^

NVM, saw it on another article they are getting rid of the pentil in favor for RGB layout for better images.. they should have done this in the first place!

gimme a break. the bigger the better, as long as it fits in your pocket. and ive got OODLES of room left with my galaxy s. my wallet is a lot wider and wallets are designed to go in your pocket.
I'm glad that AMOLED has now got to the point that they can drop PenTile!

Exactly...i dislike the idea of having a phone bigger than 4". Even when going for the SGS i was a little undecided. Id rather not have a huge hand held game like device as a phone, it should look sleek and professional, but these qualities are compromised the bigger the size. Bigger screen and therefore phone doesnt mean better. Its nice to be able to use the galaxy s with the same hand that is holding the phone.
Bigger size is just a waste in my opinion.
I cant say I see this as much of an improvement over the current sgs, where the hell is Orion? Delayed? Dropped off the radar?
And yeah, the 4.5" screen sounds like a bit much.
Not sold on 4.5" here either. Even 4" (as much as I like it over smaller sizes) is a stretch to use with one hand. It is a reach to hit the far side in 'landscape' orientation.
In terms of just looks though it should be a stunner with RGB sub-pixels instead of pentile.
I think this may be classed as a 'middle-man' to the S2.
Not too much will chance, but as I'm completed addicted to this Galaxy S and Android in general, I will no doubt upgrade to the SGS+

The only difference I see is the .3 size increase in the screen. Anything else different? Thanks
Well apparently the N1 now officially has 2.2. I'd say that's a pretty big feature.
Yea, but the Galaxy S will also have 2.2 ... Its already been rooted by Paul...
The Galaxy has a Hummingbird GPU, which is more powerful than the Adreno the Nexus has. Actually I believe it is the best out of all the Android devices.

Semi-officially...?
http://www.androidguys.com/2010/06/28/google-testing-froyo-builds-frf83-final-release/
i think the jump from the N1 to the Galaxy is nice but more so for someone who wants to have the next best thing, because I'm certainly happy with my N1 with no hurry to purchase a new phone. My brother on the other hand has a blackberry and would like to try something else so i feel its a bigger jump for him then someone with current specs on a phone.
The Galaxy S does not have LED Flash.
Front facing camera
Lack of Camera Flash
Screen if closer to glass
Better GPU
It also has a better screen .... super amoled and real multitouch (like that matters since I don't play games on My phone
How about....it's not running stock Android, so it will take forever to get updates... If it gets updates at all. This is Samsung we're talking about. Anyone remember that Behold II? It's finally getting upgraded... to 1.6. I'd also want to know the details on whether any of the Google services have been replaced by Yahoo, as I had read a couple of months back on Samsung phones.

Well there is only 1 good version (pro), the other 4 are gimped beyond belief.
1. Galaxy has significantly better media playback. (mkv, divx, xvid ect)
2. Twice as fast 3D performance. (2x FPS in games)
3. Better and bigger screen. (Super Amoled + bigger ! )
4. Screen has flawless multi touch capability ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVlsRCMltDg
Why in the hell would T-Mo not attempt to push a technologically superior device? I just don't get it....Verizon, Sprint and the DeathStar(at&t) all entice customers with very good devices.... After reading the Tmo Vibrant specs I have no motivation to ditch my Nexus One at all. Actually I'm more inclined to get a HD2 and hack Froyo onto it.

Yeah the screen and gpu are the biggies in my book. Of course, nexus will be made with a tft LCD (I'm sure I butchered itsbreal make) instead of ****ty amoled soon so maybe the gpu will end up being the main attraction. Whatever I just hope there's a nexus two planned for the future
I do like it's name but will be hanging on to my Nexus for a while

Uh.. Seriously? Gimped? I too have no idea why they'd not include a FFcamera but being the bad ass phone it is spec wise, could no way in any shape or form consider it gimped lol... Jesus christ. I would only consider maybe a motoblur device gimped... or possibly the htc aria "gimped" a small fraction. Nevermind.

Looking at this SGS2 review http://www.mobile-review.com/review/samsung-galaxy-s2-en.shtml
Just before half way down the page you can see some comparison shots between sgs2 and sgs screens.
Is it just me, or does the "Plus" sgs2 screen seem more grainy than the original sgs screen? Horizontal lines seem much more visible aswell.
Do you think this is just a product of the photography, and not a reflection of real appearance? Or is this the result of decreased pixel density, or space between pixels on the larger screen? Or is this a disadvantage of the traditional RGB layout?
Just wanted to get some other thoughts on the matter. I suspect that I the photos may not tell the full story, I definitely would like to see the screens in person
better color depth
Yeah I think it's an artifact of the photography.
Look at the first ones with the leaves, the SGS has some vertical artifacts going on and the SGS2 doesn't.
meh...
I still believe that the Galaxy s II it's not worth my attention right now.
My galaxy s can do all i need, the screen is super awesome (one of my friends with a desire hd was completely astounded by the awesome colors and contrast) and the battery is somewhat good for a 4" samoled screen (thanks darky ).
the point is: why the hell should I sell my beautiful SGS, then buy for around 500€ an SGS II? I'l wait for better devices later.
My SGS will last at least 2 year more!
Indeed the better screen would be nice but I'm not sure the other hardware improvements will really bring much improvement at this time.
My plan has always been to use the SGS for 1.5-2 years. Perhaps by that time we'll have RGB SAMOLED screens with higher resolution, batter battery life, better software (including the OS and apps making use of dual core and faster GPUs), etc..

that's exactly what I meant.
the sgs is awesome, and I don't feel the need to change device every 6 months
it's definitely better to just wait for when the technology will be better, dual core (or quadcore maybe?) processors will be fully optimized, screens will have less battery consumptio, there will be fast-charge batteries, android will be even more awesome and customizable, etc..
I suppose that in a mere 2 years this might be the tech scenario around smartphones
Wish I could stay with my sgs, but the pentile screen is driving me nuts. Don't know how you guys can stand it. Ice cream can't be that far away..
i hope the sgs 3 become a tegra 2 chip because sony will implemented ps2 games in their platform and mobile phones with tegra 2 can play too with the playstation app. my sgs will belong to me for 1,5 years after that i will see.
Damn, this russian guy has a galaxy s II. So if he know how it works he'll may be able to get to the internal apps like the hubs and the touchwiz. But I dont know for sure, if he really needs root permissions to access the system-binary
But there also was a russian guy, who rooted the galaxy s @ first
Lets hope for these russian guys. Maybe we'll get these nice applications also for our good "old" galaxy S ;D
Well, and one thing I also have to say is that I will keep my sgs as long as possible
In the dark future, when there wont be any official upgrades for android by samsung there will be always a source of hope
These guys from cyanogen mod are awesome and maybe we will also get the icecream update and MHL feature to use a usb2hdmi cable lets hope for the best guys

yeah definitely.
God when mobile phones first came out in the late 1980's they were like big bricks, as time went on the size went down and down until the arrival of the smartphone now they seem to be going up in size.
The spec is very impressive but i simply could not have a phone that size, the current size or 4.5 at the very max but not as big as this.

I know right, bigger phones are back in fashion it seems. A HD samoled seems amazing though
Our sgs2 would be perfect with HD screen!
It's such a shame..
The Nexus Prime seems like it will have a similar resolution screen, so there will be some less-niche devices with these specs from Samsung soon enough, takes a little while to miniaturise the displays with each new generation. Those of you who don't like big devices will just have to wait!
I think everyone saying this is too big for a phone aren't really seeing this for what it is - its not being marketed as a phone, its a bridging device, Samsung realise this is a niche product.
Must say I wasn't expecting the Galaxy Note, but the 5,3" WXGA super amoled plus display sure is a winner. Considering Ice Cream Sandwich is supposed to bring honeycomb and gingerbread together, I'd say that we'll definitely be seeing ICS on the Galaxy Note before it's released.
The only thing that's got me worried though is whether the Exynos at 1,4Ghz is powerful enough to power the 1280x800 screen at a pace that matches that of the SGS II.
Can't imagine calling on that big of a phone without a headphone.. isn't it a little too big to call a phone? 5.3".. Nothing like that before and a 2500 mah battery that thin?? an applause from me for samsung

I think we'll definitely be seeing ICS on this device as soon as the Nexus Prime is announced. According to gsmarena.com there'll be a MicroSD slot.
As informed by gsmarena the galaxy note 2 will have a 5.5 inch screen and will look like the galaxy sIII, which i personally am not too keen on.
http://www.gsmarena.com/exclusive_g...ins_narrower_than_original_note-news-4455.php
That's about as much confirmed as Spain will win the European Championship this Sunday.
I have also heard it will have a 5.4" Flexible OLED screen and neither that is confirmed either.
I'd bet my whole device that the screen WILL be larger by a bit.
You know, as much as I'd love to stay up with current trends, I'm not too moved by the S3 and Note 2. They don't have that much of an edge over the S2 and Note, so it's not really that worth it to upgrade. Again, this is just my views:good:
The styling too is not one that I'm particularly liking, the whole rounded shape and the materials used. Yes, some might say that it's a step in the right direction, but I say there was nothing wrong with the S2 and Note's design in the first place. Even the software loaded on these devices.... Surely they could have rework TouchWiz completely, as it still looks the same even compared to GB.... So, is it worth it to upgrade to the next generation of devices....? Unless your life depends on the latest trends and fashion...... No...
These views are my own, and should not be seen as a generalization. I speak for myself, and not on behave of any other member...
From my point of view, for the time being, the Note 2 current specs are not worth the purchase since the Note 1 has everything I need for my daily use. If the upgraded device has nothing 'New' to give to the market, this will really be a letdown...8mpx cam? 1.5 ram? and still dual core???? be serious, there's nothing to be in awe!
But 1 thing is mostly certain for us : if these specs prove to be true, even if the Note 2 is not a "Big" upgrade of the Note 1, most of us will shift to it once it is released to follow the trend. Early adopters and the tech geeks, will always want to owe the latest devices and not stick to an older one. I'm not personally impress by the Note 2 specs now, but I will certainly get one when it is out like many of you, people...
I don't think they'll go with the Exynos 5250 dual core, even though it is a better chip IMO because if they don't go quad than most wont upgrade

You are right, except that it will be not flexible but inflatable, not 5.4 but 42" and will come with built-in espresso machine (one of those with automatic grinder).
What does "confirmed" even mean here? Some site managers think they'll get attention by running an article of pure imagination, and then GSMArena says, "yes, we agree." Apparently, this is "confirmation." How should GSMArena know? They didn't even say they had a "source."
Does someone feel like saying they saw Bigfoot in Times Square the other day? I've never been to New York, but no matter. I'll come along and "confirm" it for you, just cuz I can.

Guys if the screen will be larger and the width will be smaller than note1,then i think they will set the screen ration to 16:9 because it will be bit taller and hence lesser width? As per as what i know current notes are coming with wide screen ratios?????
Gsmarena is usually accurate.
It can also be explained by the need for the extra 2 inch meant for nav bar compared to note 1

I'd be satisfied happy with the 1.7Ram and new Exynos chip... Quad core just doesn't pan out to much performance increase in the real world less your a monster gamer.

Note = 1280x800 = 16:10
To make it 16:9 they'd either have to drop the resolution to 1280x720, or increase it to something like 1366x768 or 1600x900.
1920x1080 would be nice, but I doubt it'll happen, it'd be total overkill.
If they're not going quadcore, then the Exynos 5250 would be fine given that they can run at 2Ghz and it's got a beefy T-604 GPU instead of the lowly 400. Power usage should be much improved as it's a 35nm processor versus the positively archaic 45nm we have now.

You DO know that the amount of MEGAPIXELS does not equal better quality, just higher resolution. Less pixels = bigger pixels = more light = faster shots = less blurr and all around better pictures. You don't need 8MP unless you are going to cover your entire wall in one picture.
But I'm not interested in the HTC, I like to change battery and put a SD card in my phone.

That's how it is in theory and in practice, but unfortunately the average Joe doesn't know/care. In their eyes, bigger is always better and for them it's more appealing with a 12MP camera over a 4MP one.
I am assuming that because you are on xda developers forum you are interested in development of the device.
My last experience with HTC for development was lets just say ****. The device was to locked down and took far to long to develop. The velocity (vivid) is still only just getting 4.1.1 and half the stuff does not work. I am not a developer I just like to see what others can do and flash it to my phone. When I got my sgs3 with in half and hour I had a custom rom and kernel on and have never had a problem. If you like HTC then go that way but good luck with being able to do anything with it like the sgs3. As far as features go if this device does not float your boat then you are just to hard to please.
One of the best things is the syiah kernel, dual boot, cm10 and Sammy on the same device. I don't know for certain but I doubt that is done on a HTC yet let alone the one. Further more have fun waiting.
I need to add I am not bagging developers in these comment just stating that HTC devices have to much security.
The camera should be The Bomb on the HTC, considering they kept the sensor size but reduced the megapixels.

Because f--k logic. ^^
It's like a love-hate relationship. One day I love it like it's my most precious possession while other days I wish to throw it back into the depths of hell.
It also heavily depends on what rom I've flashed on it.

Then it is by far better looking than the S3. This is the most plastic piece of crap I've ever had the displeasure of owning.

I needed a step-up hardware wise from the Gnex, and the S3 was relatively cheap at the time, and it was the only phone they had that appealed to me. Had I been aware of the lackluster AOSP support, I'd have looked for something else.

Then u didnt do the job by properly searching , SGS and SGS2 had problems with AOSP support because of that Samsung Exynos SoC, and I am pretty sure the S4, if it will come with that Octa chip, will have that problems too.

I never research, that's the beauty of it
On a more serious note though, the S1 does have good aosp support because the exynos 3 is in the Nexus S.

True iPhone ripoff vs. Supposed iPhone ripoff? Better stick with the one and only, hehehe

These threads will always and forever be stupid.
New phone vs old phone. I wonder what could be better.

Well, I get your point, but newer != better
Unibody is not an advantage. It means you don't have a removable battery and have to live with whatever the manufacturer deems good enough. And a 2300mAh battery for a 1080p screen is most certainly not enough. That said, the HTC one is obviously superior in hardware apart from battery live, but the touchwiz features like multi window and smartstay are things that I have grown too comfortable with to give up, so until these features are implemented in stock android, I'll still be sticking to the galaxy series. Unless the specs really suck.
