hi everyone
I been long time user but first time posting. well i didn't see the need to post and ask questions or got a chance to reply since you guys are so efficient .. i pretty much found out all the answer by just searching through the forums .. but now i came to a point where my answer rely on people opinions. any way
i am thinking of moving on from my Beloved HTC HERO ..and thinking of getting nexus one or Desire Z or anything you guys might suggest.. but i am definitely keen on nexus one. i been wanting nexus one for long time. i think its time for me to get a second hand brand off ebay or something.. because the price i am seeing is around £250 to £300 . so questions
1) is it worth buying N1 for £300?
2) are there any pros and cons to this model?
3) since i am sure i will be using Custom ROM on this phone. is it still worth buying..
4) any other phone suggestion and why?
Thank you
Oma
P.S sorry if i posted it wrong section but since i am hero user i thought i would ask my fellow hero users and you wont be biased

i recieved my att 8525 about two weeks ago. after updating the rom i cant complain about any major problems(although yesterday it did freeze after a call). but all i read about in the att forums is the problems they have-"white screen",touch screen not responding, lock on slide out keyboard giving out etc.. is this phone worth keeping, has anyone a a positive experience with one. all in all i love the phone, but dont want a fancy paperweight two months from know and dont want to spend $300 on the tilt-i have about a week to decide. any and all feedback would help thanks
I would suggest you're not going to get too much impartial advice in this forum. If people are reading your message it means they have a Hermes and are looking for ways to improve/optimise/play with it.
Personally, I love my phone and am always playing with it and installing or flashing new stuff.
Just a piece of friendly advice - you may want to consider changing the topic of your first post to something a little more identifiable. When you look through the list of topics on this forum all you see if the title so maybe "Should I keep my 8525 or return it?" or something similar? I'd also be tempted to add a poll if I were you so people can just click rather than have to type a reply.
Good luck anyone, but I'd say definitely keep the phone, quality is no worse than any other high end mobile in my experience.
I mean no disrespect by asking why no one here will answer a newbies questions? I know that my 2 question threads probably sounded pretty dumb to a lot of members who seem pretty brilliant, but a person has to start somewhere. I personally like to learn from experts, which is why I joined this forum. I'm sorry I'm not an expert yet, but with a little bit of your time and patience, maybe I could be, too. I used to sell cell phones and knew a fair amount at the time, but years have gone by that I didn't even have a cell phone and I didn't keep up with the technology. When I decided to get a cell phone again, after much research, and stumbling across this forum, I fell
in love with the Defy. I would really like to learn to do all this stuff that you guys do, but apparently I got a bad one, I don't know for sure because I didn't get an answer from one single person. I finally reluctantly returned the phone last night, before it was too late. I still don't want to give up, so I ordered a new one. If I have the same problem of it connecting to internet, I guess I'm giving up if no one will help. Are newbies not welcome here? Again, I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful...but is this forum strictly for experts? beginners not welcome? If it is, I apologize for intruding!

I think that anyone is willing to help, but most times everything you want to know has already been asked. The best thing to do is Google your issue, add xda on the end of your question, and chances are there's an answer there. It's when folks ask the same question that's between asked and answered ad nauseam, and its obvious that the poster didn't take the time to do any research on their own. I sincerely believe that anyone in here would help someone that had a question that hasn't been solved yet, and the person did all the research they could but were just so overwhelmed they can't fix it. My advice is to read, read, and read some more. Then if you still can't find what you need, ask one of the experts. They are the best there is, and have helped me tremendously. Good luck!

Thanks for answering. I was looking and reading under the motorola defy section, not the whole website. I was thinking the problem was specific to this phone. I guess I'll keep looking- it'd be great if I had more time to devote to this quest. Thanks anyway.
AW: [Q] Does one have to be an expert?
the other part is, that most oft the experts and discussions here about MB525, 526 ... an other reason why it could be difficult to get answered for XT555 ...

Because the thread beginning and live from the defy and the defy + is near then the same.

I can see there are a few other "first hello" threads about (although the others seem somewhat old), but I thought it'd be a better start than just bombarding everyone with questions that have no doubt been asked already.
So far, I've destroyed a GT-i9000, successfully upgraded a GT-i9100 to 4.1.2, and I'm half way through trying to play around with my HTC Wildfire S (the pain in the backside it's turning out to be). In short, I can see this becoming a bit of a hobby.
I've got a bit of background in programming, databases, and a few other relevant fields (no notable achievements, but plenty of enthusiasm). I'm starting a course tomorrow at a university in Taiwan (it's actually run by MIT) for developing health care delivery systems for remote areas, so I expect I'll be on here over the coming months (it's just a one-semester gig for now).
I did notice a few frequent posters here, but I don't know how active everyone is, so - HELLO IF YOU'RE HERE!
....and echo... ech... cho... ho... o... .. . if I'm talking to myself!... yself!... self! ... elf!.. lf! ...f! :silly:
I'll keep roaming around in circles for a while and probably have some questions soon! Cheers!

Hi, welcome to xda developers a few things you should note, those hello threads are strictly speaking not allowed as they are counted as off topic. (If everyone one had a hello goodbye thread these forums would be packed XD) secondly you state your working with a wildfire s, this is the wildfire forums the wildfire s is newer and has better hardware. Quick way to tell is if your phone does not have the trackball is the newer model

Hi all,
I bought the HTC One yesterday, I got a good deal cut price of £210 I'm in the UK (London). I previously had the Nexus 4, but I wanted something better looking, this phone certainly fits the bill. I posted on the suggest device thread before, most recommended the HTC One a week ago.
Today, I'm reading some threads in the HTC One section and it looks scary the amount of problems all kinds people are experiencing.
What is the root of all these problems? Is it to do with custom ROMs? I'm a simple user, I've never used anything but default/STOCK what the phone comes with.
The phone is still brand new. Should I sell it next week, get my money back and buy a Nexus 5?
If I don't update to 4.4.2 will it be safe to use?
Please advise, asap, thanks.
I'm referring to posts like cracking sounds with the speaker, loud speaker turning on by itself, purple tint on camera.

Duplicate thread as there is one in Q&A. Also comparison threads like this are against forum rules. They simply lead to posts like this phone is better than this phone which does not serve any purpose and can get very off-topic very quickly.
Many thanks,
Ghost
Hi guys,
since the oneplus forums is a total mess and i have a bit more confidence on xda forums, what do you think about the OnePlus/OnePlus One ?
I will buy the phone next week and i would like your opinion.
There is any wierd trick about this device/brand? Ok, i know that probably the support is not the best..
And do you know about people that bought the phone and had some problems with it?
You're new here it seems. Check the existing threads. There is one on Your Thoughts / Opinions on the OnePlus One. There is also a thread I believe on their customer service. I'd recommend checking them out and see if that can get you started.
I feel you on the OnePlus forums. It is absolutely chaotic.
