[Q] [NAND] Nandroid - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi Guys
Just wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to do a Nandroid.
People who have used custom recovery on a native android phone would be familiar.
Before people point me to the nand thread and say theres the NandAndroid.. This thread is for doing Nandroid Backups, Full image of the Nand to a file on your SDcard that can be restored back to nand if you dislike the new rom you flashed or
restore the nandroid after applying a patch/theme you made that failed to work..
I wonder if MAGLDR will support this in future? is there anyway we can do this from ADB or TTY?
any ideas appreciated

Backup Recovery image

Hi I have read posts about backup using Nandroid on 32a for system and data. so how about if i want to backup the original recovery img before flashing it to cyanogen's or RA's?
Thanks in adv.
Bump
anyone?
thx in adv
if im understanding correctly all you want is the original recovery, you can download it as the .img file then just save it to your computer and install it like ra/cyan if you ever want to go back to it
you wouldn't necessarily need to make a backup of it just like you don't need a backup of the original android software you can download the ota releases and install them like a rom
the reason it has the back up is to keep your last working rom in case you install one with problems
I hope that helped I tried to answer the question a few different ways for you
One-Click-Root method.
The application, "Recovery Flasher" can do exactly what you desire. Although, if you're currently operating on the 1.6 firmware; you'll need to "back track" to 1.5 and go about the rooting process normally.

recovery

before i get stupid post and childish comments....
im about to start developing my own roms for my hero
question number one)
can i create a recovery partion on the device to restore an nanodroid backup
you'd probably need to modifiy the nandroid scripts for that. nandroid creates a single folder to store the backups on your sdcard, are you aware of that?
yeah im aware of that, ive seen videos where people have pressed end(power) and home to boot into somekind of recovery
Yes, it's called booting into a custom recovery console! Try here, and remember search is your friend!
Regards,
Dave
hah sorted XD
all good custom recovery rom and custom rom installed XD
hm, ok, i thought this was more of an advanced question about modifying the way nandroid works.

[Q] Clockwork 3.xxxx Recoveries

I have been trying the CM7 Alpha ROM's, and to install them you need to have the 3.xxx recoveries. There are now versions of this from xx.2 (currently using it) up through xxx.5, and now xxxx.5.1.7-
Some posters over on the CM7 forum had stated that before the latest one above, the latter versions through xxxx.5 would not restore or wipe successfully. Asked about the latest above on the CM7 thread, but no response.
The developers are doing a great job over there, but the thread is getting cluttered with "social networking' and not a lot of useful information, so thought I would try here.
as far as the buiilt in restore I wasnt able to restore my OG stock I made from CWM 2.1.2.5 I tried the restore with 3.0.0.2 maybe I would need to restore from the 2.1.2.5 I made it from??? maybe I'll try it from the newest CWM...

You cannot backup or restore anything with cmw 3.xxx except android 2.3 (like cm7). For all android 2.2X, you have to use cmw 2,xxx only.

Can you reverse flashing a recovery image?

Hi Guys,
I'm a little new to all this so please bear with me..
Just rooted my MT4g and want to make a nandroid backup before i do anything. However i see that i need to use CWM to flash a custom recovery image in order to make the backup.
Is there anyway to reverse that recovery image back to stock? Incase i need to revert the phone completely back to stock...
Thanks.
Sorry, i think i found it!
I'm guessing this is it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843289
Please close this thread if that's it.. sorry for spamming.
If you completed the root process then you already have CwM recovery. Just use Rom Manager to make a backup. If you have to revert back to stock the process will reinstall the stock recovery img for you.

Hmm okay. I did successfully root the device and I was following this write up to backup the phone using nandroid which says i need to flash a custom recovery ROM.
I just tried to backup current ROM and it gives me a message saying i must flash CwM recovery first and gives me an option to install it. But i'm guessing it's possible to restore that from the link in my second post?
You can use clockwork to restore your factory rom, but if you want to revert your recovery back to stock you will need to fastboot flash the stock recovery back on. This is assuming you have first flashed the stock rom which will leave you without clockwork rom manager installed. There's a few unroot guides that will help you if you need to send your phone back to tmo. I would suggest becoming familiar with ADB and Fastboot. That knowledge will give you more options in a pinch.
Swyped on my rooted MyTouch4G
Thanks much!
Yes i am doing a lot of reading right now, but wanted to make sure all the files i needed were out there for the MT4G already. Looks like the factory recovery is out there and it can be flashed back so i'm not to worried.

Yes all the files are out there that you would need to pretty much do whatever needed. Check out the links in my sig for some good things.

Naive question: backup complete phone before rooting/flashing?

I'm just starting to read up on how to root and flash my phone and also how to go back to stock if necessary. If you haven't rooted your phone yet, is there any method to fully backup the phone so that returning to stock is easier?
Thanks!
Use the backup function in the recovery or use an app like MyBackUpPro full version.
Questions should go in the questions section.
Backup option in recovery for sure. This backs up your whole phone state. Apps, settings, icons...everything. For an extra safety measure you can use something like Titanium Backup to backup apps and system settings. This is good for switching roms.
you can use the backup from ROM Manager and if you really need to you can always follow the unroot procedure and that gets you back to the out of the box feel
Thank guys. Sorry for posting in the wrong forum, I thought ROM/flashing questions belonged here...
To backup from recovery or ROM manager you need to first flash over the stock recovery image with ClockworkMod Recovery, correct? I was wondering if there's any full backup that will also backup the recovery image prior to doing this, for an easy return to fully stock phone. I'm guessing the answer is no. Correct?
Thanks!

Once you have rooted the phone, and turned s=off you can flash Clockwork Recovery image to do back ups.
IF you are needed to go to a 100% stock fashion for what ever reason. you can do that. All you need to do is download the PD15IMG which can be found in the development section. Store it to the SDcard and boot the phone into boot-loader. That will replace EVERYTHING and put it back to a 100% factory spec. and no they cannot tell it's been rooted once the PD15IMG has been flashed.
Thanks for the info. That about covers it.
