So darkys slim is still 166 megs! That's a lil chubby. Lol jk I might try this though looks tempting without all that extra nonsense. Ill wait for some others to report.

THank you
Thank you,
Will flash this now!

Slowest download ever >_<
Is this any different than installing the I9000 Darky's 8.0 ROM and then flashing a new kernel and a modem using CWM?

the modem, sbl, and vold are samsung binaries so the only person you have to listen to on those are samsung. but according to xda rules you need to ask the developer/ROM builder BEFORE you release anything. I hope for your sake you asked both darkyy and designgears for their permission to do this.
darkyy (obviously) create the whole ROM, so the option to "port" it over to the Captivate is ultimately up to if he allows someone to do it (or if he does it himself). and designgears compiled the kernel himself, so that's also his property. but the important part is to ask FIRST before incorporating others' work.

[REQ] CM7 NIGHTLY For GT-I9000 PORT

Recently there's has been a release of Cyanogen Mod version 7 for GT-I9000
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/15275-gt-i9000-cyanogenmod-7-we-love-bugs-version-20110205/
When the 6.1 beta came out for this device I remember Eugene fixed up a sweet kernel for us that fixed various issues, such as button mapping and kernel panics, which allowed us to have CM on T959 devices
Just letting everyone know it's out, and that if any nice devs would like to build a kernel to fix some issues we can have this on our devices!!!
I AM NOT ASKING FOR AN ETA OF ANY KIND. I'M SIMPLY ASKING IF THERE IS A DEV OUT THERE THAT WOULD LOOK INTO THE RECENTLY RELEASED CM7 AND SEE IF THERE'S ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT THAT CAN EASILY BE FIXED, LIKE KEY MAPPING.
Maybe someone should try the latest GT-I9000 CM7 beta with the last kernel that eugene released for CM on T959? I would try, but I don't want to reconfigure my perfect setup right now
P.S. if anyone uses CM on Vibrant, remember to use sombionix's SD mount fix so that your internal SD mounts properly!

Same I think I'll wait for a new nightly to pop up or Eugene to work his magic and create another fix, it shouldn't be that hard... just reconfigure the old fix to work with the new code?
I forgot to mention that Team Whiskey is working on an AOSP build for the Vibrant! I read it first in the OP for Bionix-v thread when it was first created:
also, as soon as we get our hands on the source code, we'll begin a full aosp build compiled from source.

And right now the OP has been updated with this:
Coming Soon:
Multiple high quality themes will soon be available for Bionix-v. Team whiskey has also been working hard to bring you a stable 2.2.1 and 2.3 rom. Expect a stable 2.2.1 to drop soon...very soon. Other very exciting goodies coming in the near future. Don't worry, we haven't forgotten about you!

The problem with that idea is that Eugene's new kernel is a FroYo kernel, not Gingerbread (which is what CM7 is). I'm sure Eugene or TW could get a good Gingerbread build working though.

Jeez, stop demanding this and that. These are the kind of posts that developers HATE to see.
Samsung hasn't released froyo source much less gingerbread. Pretty sure krylon360 and others are using nexus s/sdk and maybe even writing drivers themselves to get ginger working.

I'm not demanding anything kid, I was just stating initially that CM7 came out, just in case some devs hadn't noticed. And i was replying to someone who said Eugene couldn't do anything because he only works with 2.2 source? Something ridiculous like that...
I ran CM7 a couple days ago... only thing it really needed was the Vibrant modem.

flash the one from the i9000 and
just extract the modem.bin from the Vibrant modem you choose
next
place it in your sdcard.
then after you have CM7 installed.
open terminal emulator and type this:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/modem.bin of=/dev/block/mtdblock5

I think if you read a little closer, I was commenting that the 2.2 source that was leaked to Eugene is about as useful to CM7/GingerBread ROM development as the 2.1 source was to 2.2 ROMs.

no not switched only my list and back buttons work. This really should be labeled a tech demo. Of course it's full of dragons, just go read the known bugs over at the cyanogen forums. It works - fun to play with cyanogen7 but thats it - don't expect this to be a fully working daily driver.

[DEV][RC5] Team Nyx [Android 4.0.4] (ICSSGS)

Team Nyx
-- DemonWav -- Nushor -- Onecosmic -- PaulForde -- RaymondDull -- Trae32566 --
This ROM is based directly on the source code straight from Google themselves, the way Android is meant to be. This ROM is produced by a collaboration of many different people, with the main development being done by Onecosmic himself. We strive to bring releases as often as possible and provide a stable AOSP ROM.
We are in the midst of many changes and will try to have our source code back up as soon as possible.
We do not support anything that is not produced by us!
Team ICSSGS is now Team Nyx!
We have made lots of changes, and part of that includes moving our base from XDA to our own website. All information, as well as downloads will be on our website, but please continue your discussions and we will continue our support here on the forums. Please check out our site at http://team-nyx.com/

is this build going to be pure ASOP first? the other thread was talking of changing the "crappy" battery icon and other stuff.

That's another thing, that other thread was complete bullcrap. We are focusing 100% on AOSP at the moment. I'm working on side flashes to try to improve the rom, but they are not a part of the rom or have anything to do with Onecosmic.

Download the required files (ROM, Kernel, and SU fix), and make sure you have a GB Bootloader.
1. Backup your files, and do a Nandroid
2. Reboot to Recovery
3. Wipe Data, Cache, and Dalvik. No need to wipe system because it's done already on the updater script.
4. Install .zip from SD card. First of all flash the ROM, then go for the Kernel.
5. Reboot, the first boot takes longer.
6. Setup your account.
7. Boot to recovery, and install the SU.zip to grant you with Root access.
8. Reboot, and enjoy.
Notice I do not ask you to wipe and flash several times, it honestly works at the first attempt.
Good Luck.
dumb question is this still a port for the captivate ? and will flashing this mean you need specific boot loaders to start I run i9000 boot loaders and sorry for posting question here but never got an answer in the q&a will ICS support HSDPA like JVT did?
Just wanted to thanks guys. This is awesome.
@OP
Is it the same thing to go to: http://code.google.com/p/ice-cream-sandwich-sgs/downloads/list, download the A7 ROM "ICS_4.0.1_r1-alpha7.zip", and flash the Captivate Kernel? Or are you uploading a different version, with more changes?
I am asking because I honestly feel like this A7 update is a tad slower than the A6 i downloaded previously. (The A6 zip i was linked to already merged both the Kernel, and the ROM into one same updater script.)

It is the same, I am just packaging it up to simplify it for the noobs. I just uploaded a .zip, then I realized that I had screwed up with it, so I'm re-uploading now.
EDIT: As for it being slower, Alpha 7 has some wicked partitioning changes that should speed it up. Of course we are always trying to make it better, but HW Accel. is built into Alpha 7.

I'm preparing to be flamed, but I figured I might as well create this thread. yea I been onICS for 24 hours now ,, its great , but nothing special I see very few differences in anything , except I am missing all of the features I m use to on GB .
imo dotn believe the hype , the only 2 things I like about my current ICS set up is sixstring kernel allows me to OC higher then on sammy rom (not higher then cm7 tho) and the launcher is pretty cool but still not as nice as on the gnex .
Eventho its 2.3.5 I welcome source of KK4
eventho Im 2.3.6 (i9000 base )
I'm looking forward to the more refined kernels the source code release should bring around. Those features we've been missing will now be possible.

I'm pretty sure that problem only happens when you put AT&T software on an i896. I can't say for sure though because both my cappy's are canadian. Anyways I don't think ts a problem with the phone per se.. I think its a network thing. There is no time stamp issue for people on the AT&T network that I know of.
KK4 Source has been available since around Christmas. Some of the I897 kernel devs have been trying to compile a kernel from source but have been running into issues with the kernel not booting which is why you haven't seen any yet.

I'm not sure how many actually remember the events relating to this earlier this year... But it was a mess.
Thor decided to start developing a ICS rom providing (presumably under apache2) the device/vender tree to the build. Just two little tidbits were, how to say, off with his approach.
a) The device tree included his kernel still without the source code (so now we have some apache2 code.. nice but not required, and its poisoned with a closed source kernel)
b) he provided links to the github repo (now deleted and/or hidden) on XDA via adfly.
After this was reported, XDA closed the thread, Thor took down the git repo and tried to pan this off to his greater followers (probably successfully) as XDA not even allowing him in when him to work here even when his code is "open".

While the source was open blazingwolf, ProTekk, randomblame (and some others?) managed to get the repo and clone it (or parts of it) into their own projects.. Mostly with little or no credit, and not always properly removing all traces of Thors kernel (either the main kernel was replaced with blazingwolfs open kernel, but a second copy of Thors kernel in the repo was left, or they just used thors kernel as it existed in the device tree).
In addition to this there was a recovery that used blazingwolf's kernel but otherwise was a nearly unmodified thor recovery binary (simply a hex edit to change the title, and thus hide the upstream source)
--
AOKP is now using the CM9 base for the device and vender trees, so everything including the CM9 T20 kernel is open source. However I its up to the AOKP team to re-post here at this point and not someone just wanting a mirror with their own unrelated donate link.
Some locked threads to remember in relationship to this:

Just to clear this up, roms are under Apache v2 license (which doesn't require source release) kernels are under GPL which does require source release.

After this was reported, XDA closed the thread, Thor took down the git repo and tried to pan this off to his greater followers (probably successfully) as XDA not even allowing him in when him to work here even when his code is "open".

sadly i do but the thread i linked is albeit messy with side stuff i made the assumption it was mod locked. after talking with the other people i have foudn out that the OP requested it be locked. i went and got the rom from AOKP website and as far as i can tell is Thor free and i run clockwork recovery and V8 ICS bootloader.
As for the motives for my request is i'd like to see more roms succeed for this tablet as it is "old" tech people are moving to the tegra 3 Tabs i am not ready to give up on my $567.87 less than year old purchase. I own the A501 ATT 4G LTE Variant i bought it from ATT without contract hence the price
Uhm... Hi paxChristos! Welcome to our slightly disfunctional family! I hope that you have a great time.:silly:

As do we all (want larger choices in roms).
But there-in lies the issue. We have an AOKP rom that has been through many hands, and at times, had some suspicious coding involved. Including getting closed on more than 1 occassion due to shady practices and non-GPL kernels. Might have been 3 seperate roms for all we know.
To post the rom now, would probably piss off quite a few people if enough credits were not given, even if the kernel proved to be legit. And even then, you would have several people claiming the rom was theirs and they were the original authors. That's the nature of these "KANG" roms and "MIUI" roms.
Well, we have polluted PaxChristo's welcome thread enough for now. I suggest we give it a rest, and probably open a new thread in the General Forum. I'll DL and install it, and see what's up with it. Post some results later.

good job

The Unofficial CyanogenMod Series - added aokp-jellybean test build

Hi all I will be working this a little. But don't expect anything to great. I don't have a whole lot of time to work on this. I bricked my phone and not having much luck getting it replaced. So I won't be working on this to much until I can get a new phone as I will be spending all my time working.
Most stuff posted here is probably gonna be untested.
I will be posting cm7, cm9, and cm10 builds here.
Idk if any of these work.
Don't get mad at me if they brick your device. Infact treat them with a high chance of brickage, unless otherwise noted.

"unofficial" is beta version that has some problem, "official" is perfect version that has no problem.

I've honestly lost count of all your posts that offer absolutely nothing helpful or relevant to the discussion.
I understand theres not much of a point to this. The main reason for this thread is cm10 as all the other cm10 roms don't have the stock cm kernel. But since I build the other ones anyways i figured I'd post them. And I'll post install instructions.

So...if you understand there's not much of a point, why post at all? Also, FYI, in regard to your OP: "to" is not the same as "too", and "infact" is not a word. Just sayin'.

Because this is the only cm10 rom with the stock cm kernel. I meant there was not much reason to post any of the other builds

You'll likely receive a lot of flak over re-hosting/posting stuff as you've seen thus far, but if you're offering something you've re-worked in any way(which is what I understand you're doing) then I'd stick with just that and link to other threads in your OP if necessary.
If you compiled from CM10 source here we have CM10 kernel for Captivate (no datadata partition).
This is very interesting.
Thank you very much: if compiling went well this is really an important step for JB on Cappy and now we can run also official Pawitp builds.

Yes this is compiled from source specifically for the captivate.
And compiles with no errors
