Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone else is getting intermittent issues w/ their mini-SD card.
I've lost essentially all my data on my 2GB Sandisk on three separate occasions. I have formatted different ways (once w/ RescoExp, and then FAT32 on 2 computers), been v. careful closing my apps and minimizing the amount of writing to the card.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Sandisk's comments are as follows:
"This is a known issue with the devices when they work this way with 2GB and up memory cards. Usually in this cases you just need to contact the manufacturer of the device that you having issues with the reading on, to find out about compatability and what kind of firmware update do you need."
Thanks!
I haven't had any issues with my SanDisk 2gb card using my K-JAM.
Now on other pdas and with other cards, I have had the "lose everything" problem. Two reasons I had...storing email attachments on the and having the unit crash while accessing the card.
My onyl problem with the larger card is my laptop doesn't recognize it
I lost all of my data just last week off of my card, I went ahead ahd reformatted it again, not sure whats wrong with the 2gb cards

I haven't had a single issue with my 2GB TOPRAM card. I have had a few issues where the device doesn't see it (I assume) and renames the folder to Storage Card 2 and creates a new folder "STorage Card" with nothing there. It happens rarely and when it does, I just take the card out, rename the bad folder to StorageCardOld then insert the card again. This corrects the issue. I use the card very heavily and have had it since around the end of January.
I too have had this problem. I hope my suggestion helps.
I've had issues in the past with Sandisk flash cards. My problems were the same as yours until some helpful spark suggested I do a disk error check using windows (right click on drive in explorer>properties>Tools>Error Checking). Format the card and then run the disk check, apparently some Sandisk flash cards exhibit not so rare sector problems. His explanation (the science bit of which I have long since forgotten) was that that by running the disk check, the utility automatically marks the error causing sectors as unusable. The disk can then be used as normal after that, but any reformatting should have the disk check run again to mark the sectors once more.
This has helped me in 2 out of three occasions and so may or may not work for you. Still, I hope this solves your problem.
BS answer from Sandisk
Leighj, that's a BS answer from Sandisk. I guess it would never occur to them that your SD card is defective. Try another card in your machine or that card in another PDA phone if you have either of those options, but if not contact Sandisk and get a replacement. It should have a lifetime warranty, or at least several years.
Have to agree with iclick. My Sandisk cards were basically defective and how I got them running was a workaround and not a solution.
Yes - I wasn't too happy with their response either. Anyway, I just ran through error checking before & after reformatting. Hopefully that works - if not I'm off to shop for a new card. Either way, it's probably the last Sandisk mem card I purchase.
Thanks for your comments!
I have a Sandisk 2Gb Mini-SD as well and I've not had any issues with it so far. If it helps, I've left the card in the factory default format of FAT only - not FAT32. Try putting yours back to FAT and see if you still get any issues. Depending on what program you use the option you want might be labelled as FAT16 instead of just FAT.
I have Sandisk Ultra 2G miniSD, I don't have any problems untill recently. Whenever I try to add my storage capacity to more than 60%, 1GB or more, it gave me an error because the file is write protected and then not responding file transfer.
First, I taught my file is broken, but when I removed other files from the mini SD card and then add it ..... it's work. I used a factory Format type. Do anyone have this problems :?:
Well after contacted Sandisk customer services regarding my memory. They asked me to reformat my card and I did that. through my laptop, but it said that windows cannot complete the format. Now the card is dead.
Do the mini sd cards have a lock?
Do these cards have a lock on them? My old SD cards had a slider but I don't see one on the sandisk card.
The miniSD doesn't have a lock, but the miniSD-to-SD adapter does have a slider just like a real SD.
if i take my sd out for any reason it will often take a few goes to get it recognised by the mini s again. I have to remove/insert it as many as 10 times.
Hi,
Is there any possibility to update Phone software in TyTN or do anything to could make a sim card images ?
I have 3 sim cards and use them often, but always have to replace them in my TyTN by taking battery out and in...
If sim card is a data card, I thought that maybe there us any chance to use some software like for normal CD Image...
Have you ever heard about something like that ?
There are multi-SIM cards which offer the ability to store multiple individual SIMs and activate whichever one you want (though it's always only 1 live card at any given time). Basically, you use a computer to copy multiple SIM cards' information all onto one card, then use the multi-SIM software on the phone to switch between them.
However, most modern SIM cards are encrypted and if you try too hard to decrypt it, the SIM card can actually break as a result. For example, I'm told that most SIM cards you get in the UK these days are more or less uncrackable for this purpose. But I'm not sure about the situation in other countries.
i used an adata 8gb class 6 sdcard in my focus.
when i take it out. nothing can recognize it. when i put it into my memory reader and use disk part to clear it and repartition it, the computer says no media is inserted, when it is.
i can take it out and put it back in the focus, and it works just fine. I can put in another focus and it says its the wrong sdcard for this phone.
so the sdcard works, i just need to change its format back to normal. how is that possible when windows and 3 different card readers can not detect it?
Edit: i also tried doing a windows 7 format and when the phone reset i pulled out the sdcard while the phone was off. no go.
Cant you just mount it on your card reader, then hit the Start Orb on Windows 7 then right click on Computer, choose "Manage" then choose the card and delete the partition, then you should be able to format it correctly under windows 7.

I can't. the card is not detected, as stated above. windows 7 says, no media. the sdcard is 'locked'.
according to this you use the phone to unlock the card. ive tried it and it does nothing.
Even using the method i told you it doesnt show up at all? Wow, thats really hardcore then.
according to this website. the phone locks the sdcard and encrypts them, so nothing else but a windows phone 7 can understand it.
however, i am currently unable to unlock it.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but the sd card is now a part of the phone...there's some threads going around about this. WP7, for speed and security will assimilate the SD card into the filesystem so instead of two partitions you have one continuous unit. much like raid 0 (data stripping)
Sorry bud, there isn't a way to undo this yet...eventually there will be.

seems to be true. even using the suggested methods in the linked websites i posted, do not work.
Symbian is your answer
So I was in the same boat you are in. Nothing could read the card except for my Nokia n97 mini. It recognized the card as "locked" and prompted for a password. I bypassed the prompt and went to the file manager. From there it let me format the card and it is back to normal. See, Symbian is good for something after all!
PS: I tried the same process with an E71 and had the same successful results. All recent Symbian phones should work as it appears they can handle the encryption and password. The card is now happily back in my HTC EVO.

WOW , good find
I just spread the word and post it on the wp7 general .
Another user reported being able to reformat these post WP7 Micro SD cards in his Windows Mobile 6.5 handset.
Can anyone try this and confirm?

I used a friends t-mobile Nokia 5230, running S60 5th Edition, to recover my 8GB microSD. It was a pain finding the format option (no familiarity with S60) but I now have a working SD card again.

This is really a great find. Now that we have a password prompt, how long before someone recovers the password? 3 ... 2 ...

Whatever it is, it isn't simple. Just for fun I tried all zero's, 1234, 1111, etc. That's when I just gave up and formatted.
That's interesting cause even with Linux the sd card wasn't recognized by the kernel.. You'd think Linux would ignore that stuff. I guess it. Prob has something to do with the way computers mount the sd card.. And the nokias can just bypass that...
theres 2 different issues we are seeing here. in my case and alvinswim case the sdcard DID NOT prompt a password. Nothing showed up. Its like it was never inserted.
in naplesbill and a few others, they are getting prompts for passwords which allows for partition editing.

I tried it in an older Nokia phone I have (Symbian) and the same thing happened. It turned out that device does not support MicroSDHC. I was able to do it using a new Nokia (Symbian) device.
Same here, using a Nokia 5800xm. In File Browser, the card shows up with a red line through it 0/0 bytes. But the utility can reformat the card, no problem. Perhaps Windows and Linux look for a mbr of some sort and there isn't one, which would make the OS think there is no mountable device, where the Symbian OS ignores higher level disk structures and mounts the device using its own methods.
I'm guessing the password is probably even randomized for each individual phone, but that's based on my own fantasy. I did read up a bit on SD card password protection and the way Nokia phones store this password, the unlock code is a variation of your cell phone number. Some say last four digits, others say phone number, minus area code. I guess it's possible.
I am going to test this out on a Sony Ericson Vivaz tomorrow to see if it works on other non Nokia symbian phones.
Update:
Sony Ericsson Vivaz worked just fine
Guys, what's happening is that the phone is locking the card with a random 128-bit key. It's futile to try to guess it.
However, you *can* send an force erase command to the card to delete all the data on it, and reset the key. That's what Symbian is doing, and why it works to reformat the card.
Unfortunately, Windows, OSX and Linux don't know anything about SD cards, so they're not going to be able to help you erase the card, since they don't know how to send the command.
All of this is described in section 4.3.7 of this spec:
sdcard.org/developers/tech/sdcard/pls/Simplified_Physical_Layer_Spec.pdf
So I have a 2gb card in my HD2 right now while running live and according to my sync with my computer, i have .16 gigs left on it.
Isn't there memory onboard the HD2? I know that WP7 uses the memory from the card, but i would at least think it would use some of the memory from the HD2. Do I need to go buy a larger card? I mean I hate to spend $20 on a card if I don't need to. Right now im at the point where I cannot even transfer a photo.

WP7 in it's present incarnation only recognizes and uses 512MB of the the HD2's 1GB so you need a larger SD card if you have one. What happened to your factory SD that came with the HD2...I believe it was a 4GB microSD?
I got this phone for free, so im using an old sd card i had laying around. im gonna probably just go to radio shack while they are having this sale to get the 16g scan disk.
Here is a question. In my sync, it says the capacity on my card is .16g, I had android on there before. Is android still on there? If so, is there a way to remove it? i want to make sure i am getting all the memory out of my card

WP7 installation is supposed to reformat your SD card. In Zune, under view settings or one of the lists of what you can you do with your phone, there is a way to view how much memory you have to play with and also be able to re-allocate memory for specific uses. Check it out.

yeah that is correct, your SD card hasnt been recognised at the initial setup, you need to try one of two things, try formatting the card in a digital camera (to be honest even this isnt a great idea) or two, you need a new SD card
SD cards even within the same brands and models may or may not work, some will not install at all, others will install but with issues, wifi, random reboots, lagging, to name a few.
The reason i mention the formating isnt an ideal solution is because, yes it may work, but the underlying issue of the card not originally working is still there, all you have done is moved the bar a bit, the card its self may still generate errors.

Well, I have tried the 3, 2g SD cards I had from getting phones. I also went and bought a $30 SD card and it did not work, so I returned it and got a different $30 SD card, which also did not work.
I am getting pretty fed up.
Does anyone have a spare SD card, that they know works that they want to sell/give me? I don't care the size, i just want to be able to load peoples pictures into the phone..
I just hate wasting my money on cards that don't seem to work

First of all, since you live in Trinity, it would be nice if you knew how to writer proper sentence to get your question across.
Secondly, why you're spending $30 for an SD card is beyond me.
Third, you need to consider the brand and speed of the SD cards you are supposedly purchasing. Are you buying a brand from a reputable manufacturer and are you buying a card with sufficient speed for WP7? I would recommend at a minimum a Class 4 card (Class 6 highly suggested). Also, a 2GB card probably won't buy you anything on WP7 since WP7 on an HD2 uses the SD card a the primary source of working memory. Thus, at a bare minimum a 4GB card is recommended.
And as most of the posting on the forum have indicated, the SD card issue on the HD2 is a hit and miss affair. And I really do hope you have the SD card in the phone when you install WP7, otherwise, no amount of changing will work.

i would highly NOT recomend a class 6 card, there is less chance of that working.
The class ratings define sustained sequential speed, WP7 doesnt need that, it needs high random speeds, the two are not always compatible, go for a class 2 or 4 card and you are more LIKELY to get a card that works, as teh above poster mentioned, it is hit or miss and there is no compatible list, there is apparently a AT&T card branded for WP7, good luck finding a place that sells that outside of an actual shop and expect to pay a premium for it.

Yes I have installed WP7 with the SD card in. First with the 2g card that came with my HD2, then with a Scandisk 4g one, and then with a $30 Kingston 16g one.
Honestly, im going to radioshack tomorrow and going to buy a 4g kingston class 4 one. In the sd card forum it says it works. So we will see.

did you honestly read those threads? there isnt any 100% compatible cards, all these, "confirmed working cards" threads are about as confirmed as the paper its been wrote on. Buy what you can afford, because the only way you are getting a "confirmed" card is if someone has actually tried it and has given it to you. Also its worth noting that getting it installed on the card is only half the battle, if WP7 has the slightest issue with thecard it it can course several different issues.
As i said, its very much luck if you can get it working, it absolutely flys and is super smooth if you can get it perfect
I have recently purchased a Nokia 6 with the intention of using a "previously bought/used" SD card. It's an Emtec SD Card with the following specifications:
Class 10 UHS-I
Read Speed: up to 85MB/s
Write Speed: up to 16MB/s
Compatible with all devices supporting microSDHC and microSDXC standards!!
I Googled which was the best SD cards to use in these phones & the below came up as an option....
"How to choose a MicroSD card for Nokia 3, 5, 6, 8 Android Phones
nokiapoweruser/choose-microsd-card-nokia-android-phones
Nov 28, 2017 - You can get a Class 10 UHS-1 MicroSD cards with great transfer speeds. Nokia 3, 5, 6 support SD card up to 128 GB storage capacity while Nokia 8 supports up to 256 GB. Click on the links below for your market to check available UHS-1 cards on Amazon and choose one for your Nokia smartphone."
The problem I have is that if I format it as "internal" it says the SD card is slow......however, if I format it as "portable" there are no issues!!
I'd like it to be formatted as "internal" because it then allows ALL apps to be moved to the SD card.
So if anyone has an idea as to why this is happening & how it can be prevented.....I'd certainly love to hear your replies
Thank you in advance
This is may caused by encryption of the SD card but I am no expert on this field... microSD cards are really bad at writing very small files so that could be a reason too :silly:

same here bro..
I have the same issue with the Nokia 6, but with a Lexar UHS-II card. Was told by Nokia support to send it back to the retailer. I did. Got it back within two weeks, saying they didn't find any problems with the device.
Next I sent it directly to a Nokia service point, got it back within two weeks, saying they didn't find any problems with the device.
So I sent it in a third time (including the SD card this time) and I'm still waiting to get it back. (which I hope to be a good sign, since they received it on Dec. 11 and it's Jan. 02 as I'm writing this. I guess they're ACTUALLY looking into it this time.)
I will update here as soon as I get it back. IF I get the same phone, not a replacement.
I think this is a software related issue, I doubt that there are so many faulty devices without Nokia noticing. If an SD card gets formatted as internal, Android reformats it with the Linux Filesystem Ext4 and encrypts it. In order to write and read data from the SD card, it has to encrypt / decrypt that data every time. I suspect that the Nokia devices struggles somewhere in this process.

I don't know if it's really that many devices, since every time I made contact with Nokia Support they told me (after throughout questioning) it seems to be a very rare problem, so they couldn't tell me any further other than that I should send it in for repairs. Same goes for the retailer I bought it off.

hmmmmm..... I have a spare mSD card, i gonna test it. I will also look for a benchmark program...
It is a SanDisk Extreme 16G Class10 3-in-a-little-U microSDHC1. I do not have the packing anymore but Google says it has 60MBPS Read and 40MBPS Write speed.
I finished my testing: Although there is noticeable difference in the overall lag, it is not that heavy and the phone is still useable... i also tested Scout with an offline map installed and internet access disabled: with everything on internal storage: 5s start time; with everything moved via App2SD, it takes 13s to load.
I did not notice any huge performance drop though
So I got the phone back a few days ago, saying this is a software problem which should be fixed as soon as the Oreo update is installed. Hopefully they're right.
Huh... Weird indeed...
Thanx Heaps
Firstly, I'd like to thank you all for replying.....it's VERY much appreciated & great to know I'm not the only one with this issue!!
2ndly, a couple of things I failed to mention in my original post as I didn't want it to be too long.
Directly before posting my original question, I had actually been live chatting with Nokia support for well over an hour in relation to this problem & I had also tried a 2nd SD card (also Sandisk but had the same issue as my Emtec SD card) while live chatting......in the end I was told they would raise my issue with a higher department & someone would get back to me (still haven't heard back) & due to my frustration I'd forgotten a specific phrase that was coming up on my phone when trying to format it & was reminded by Meuselwitz's post..........after "both" SD card attempts the phrase "This SD card appears to be slow. You can continue, but apps moved to this location may stutter & data transfers may take a long time. Consider using a faster SD card for better performance"!!
I'm using what Nokia recommend!!!
Also, Karlsruhe......were you informed of when that Oreo update was going to be?? Or has it happened???
Hmm... What a shame that Support did not answer. Did you buy your SD cards online? I once bought a "SanDisk" on ebay but it was a (pretty good tho) scam which had significant speed issues and only ~2GB storage (I bought it as 16GB)
As a side note: Meuselwitz and Karlsruhe are (German) cities, not usernames
(well Meuselwitz is more like a village but no one cares anyway)
So... finally the support (via chat) gave me the solution to this problem: you need a card with at least 80mb/s write speed. Got myself a Samsung pro plus card, and it's fine.
That was it? Wow... Okay, I am glad that your problem is solved now :good:

My apologies....I've only just noticed the names at the top of the box.....I'm soooo sorry
I actually can't remember where I bought it.....looks like I'll have to buy another!! It does have 64GB thankfully I'll put this one in my work phone & the new one in the Nokia
You're all awesome
Thank you all again so very much I would not have been able to deal with support again!!
It is so good to know that "I'm not the only one" with issues with a new phone & to be able to get fantastic advice & feed back is even better
& the fact that I'm pretty unskilled when it comes to technology doesn't help my cause lol I'd rather build something
Also.....how bad would it be of me to finish this huge "Thank You".....with another question???
OK....so here goes, I'm trying to work out why, when I'm sent an MMS message that it automatically puts it into a group message with the person who sent it & "my phone"?? Then when I send a message back to the person who sent the original MMS I receive the exact same message :crying:
Any advice would be truly welcomed
Thank you in advance

So... finally the support (via chat) gave me the solution to this problem: you need a card with at least 80mb/s write speed. Got myself a Samsung pro plus card, and it's fine.

That can happen, no worries
I was having the same issue with an older Sandisk Ultra card.
Switched to a Samsung EVO select, issue resolved.
I have a similar problem with a verbatim premium of 256gb with my Nokia
Hello I bought a verbatim card of 256gb class 10, at first my phone recognized the card with 260gb, when I tried to use it as portable device, but when I tried to format as internal storage, the device start to popup a message unsupported SD card. This device doesn't support this card. After that I TRIED to format in setting and then with a computer with the app SD memory card formatter , and the computer recognized the card and I can transfer files, but when I put the card in the Nokia 6, it's show the message unsupported card, what I have to do in this case. I want to use the SD card in the Nokia 6
