As of now, has anybody been able to compare The Evo to Leo running android?
I personally have been using darkstones V5 and its incredibly fast and responsive, the only thing lacking for me is the gps, 5mpx (possible 720p recording) and more battery time. If those would be fixed it would be perfect.
Now, back to the original question, I haven't used the Evo hands on. What do you guys think? does Leo match up with all its hardware running android? or will Evo remain the top android phone right now?
Food for thought: After everything is worked out on Leo, could it be the best Android phone around?
What do you guys think?
EVO is 4G, CMDA locked down device. Hardware is similar but it was build to run nativly the Android OS.
Leo is unlocked and can run win + android (with it's current limitations). If devs can (and I think the will) make a nand flashable ROM with all the things in working order, LEO is clearly the winner
I have used the EVO, but only in store, and with all those random apps that have been downloaded, but i can always ask my friend to compare our phones (he ownes the EVO) but this Desire ROM is great although its been charging all night, its only about ~98% and still charging, but its not complete as of yet, but once its done it will be a competitor to actual Android phones.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Desire v5
evo= 4g + 8mp camera (720p & livestream), second camera, hdmi out etc.
evo is the winner for me leo is kinda the small brother of the evo
I own the HD2 and running the fastest version of Android (see sig) for me.
My wife has an EVO. My daughter also has an EVO. I've played with both extensively.
EVO's 4G is still difficult to connect to or find 4G area. Others have posted main specs so I won't go into that.
If you like Android, the EVO is superior in every way except battery life and construction.
The HD2 gets about 3-4 more useable hours than the EVO, and this is with 4G off.
The battery cover on the EVO covers almost the entire back plate. It's plastic and cheap.
Android rarely ever hesitates on the EVO. Android is at least twice as fast on the EVO.
Android on HD2 - certainly useable with a few missing features
Android on EVO - lightening fast and amazing
One thing people seem to miss is that the EVO, or Sprint's '4G' network for that matter, is not true 4G. It's actually WiMAX simply branded as 4G, but yes it is faster than the LEOs 3G.
I have been using the XTarantula's eclair build and it has worked rather well so far =D
The evo prints money.
I grants you three wishes even if one of those wishes is for an Iphone 4.
I has an app that builds you an island then transforms into a jet and fly's you there.
Its Mf indestructable.
it has the wifi's but very few gb's.
but seriously... Hd2 vs the evo 4g. Are you kidding me. One is native android one is not. And the hd2 is the original the evo is the mistakes they fixed.
Would I rather have the evo not really Im not missing nothing. I mean video chat would just make sexting worse. other than that the more mp's doesnt mean crap for picture quality.
Personally aside from the poor battery life problems which is because of androids lack of a ability to manage the hardware this thing runs pretty well.
I am perfectly happy with my hd2... and heard they are going for 99 now? If so I should have waited.
I got to say EVO has a better technology but sprint kills it, firstly because is a CMDA phone, second because of the outrageous price for the internet, oh and there is NO 4g coverage in many areas and last BECAUSE in a couple of month ANOTHER much more better device will come out.
SO OVERALL HTC H2 (LEO) IS FAR BETTER THAN EVO
using the latest zimage(released today ) , the hd2 3d benchmark scored higher than the evo and similar to the desire , so we are nearly close to perfection , and the speed has increased allot with the latest zimage
iam using stock 1.66 rom without even hspl nor new radio and with 2gb class 2 card , and desie v5 rom and it is really fast
A lot of people seems to be comparing the two phones by "Speed" "Responsivnes" and "Performance".
Now my friend got an Evo 4G, and I an HD2, and I must admit, I'm afraid that the EVO is better on those terms. Yes, it is a bit bigger and bulkier, but Android does run better on it whatever people says. When browsing the home screens on Android on both mine and his phone, it is clear that the Evo 4G is faster. The benchmarks may say something else, but when it comes to what really matters, which is the user interface, and how it works, I must declare the Evo the winner. Its jut a lot faster, this might be hard to understand, but trust me, when sitting with both devies in your hands, there's no doubt.
Also, when it comes to hardware, the screen itself, feels a bit more responsive on the Evo, but nearly as fast as the Iphone, or Xperia X10 mini.
But which phone is the winner? For me its the HD2. Not because of the way that it runs Android, or because that's its a bit smaller. But because of the community that it has created. Never before have I seen so many people dedicated to develope, test, and take part in all kinds of porting and hacking. It is beatifull to see Android work so good on the phone even tho its miles away from being perfect.
It is stunning to see the hundreds if not thousands of ROM's developed for this one and only phone, where people has been so great at providing feedback, to the skilled developers that this community boosts.
And that's why that this phone wins. Because of you! You guys are all the best

Wao! beautiful post!!
Thank you
Well, I don't consider the Evo to be the top native Android phone. I give that award to a member of the Galaxy S line. Better GPU + (IMO) better screen. But I digress...
While Android on the HD2 has improved by leaps and bounds over the last few weeks, it has a ways to go before it matches the Evo. Android is much smoother & faster on the Evo, not to mention the kinks that still need to be worked out on the HD2, and the better camera options on the Evo.

This is actually poetry, and I cannot agree more.
It's amazing to see all of these people working together to make this phone the best it can be, and I'm sure that as time progresses, Android on the HD2 will improve extensively, and I look forward to using it for day-to-day use.
I was also able to use a friends evo. For a few hours and ran various tests between evo and HD2 with desire v4. Their UI is definitely 25-50% smoother. Data speed was the same but the thing I noticed the most was UI smoothness and battery life. We went to Disney fully charged. And left at the same time, he still had power while I had all background services shut off and I've lost power. Total off charger time was 6 1/2 hrs
sent from my HTC HD2
awesome!!

awesome statement there. i personally have been part of a group much like this. it for a device called the casio be300. it was a pda that didn't get a windows os, and we all felt screwed... like the hd2 not getting win7phone. like this group, we all banded together and and flashed the nand to run all sorts of OSs. this whole experience for me is like a dream of the past. it is great!
i've never been so happy i made the right choice in getting this phone over some of the other t-mobile phones i was looking at. =)
What I don't understand is the large difference in 'smoothness' of the UI between HD2 and native android devices, such as Evo/Desire.
People will say, 'it's beta!' or 'it's running from sdcard instead of nand!', but: HW3D is already implemented (and finished as far as I know), and running from slow storage (sd card) cannot make any difference. When scrolling through the icons, GPU+CPU will be used, not storage.
So what can be causing this 'slow' UI on the HD2 vs Evo?

Running from sd card can and will make things run slower.. Nand is always faster than flash memory. And a lot of the drivers had to be constructed so they arent as optimized as they would have been had htc designed the phone for android in the first place.
Another thing about the slow UI, is the slow screen. HD2's screen got a pretty bad response time compared to many other devices, which is really a shame.
To see this yourself, when on the homescreen in Winmo with sense, use the slider in the bottom of the screen. Slide it forwards and backwards and notice the delay.

dont you think that could be solved by a registry edit.

OT Alert: You want fast scrolling between sense tabs in WinMo? Cleanex Ultra Awesome has the fastest speeds known to Sense and HD2
But I digress...
EVO looks like a beast of a device... best Android hardware out there is the Samsung Galaxy S, imho...
Love the "best of both worlds" we have with our HD2 though
Hi dear, I'm a possible buyer of T-Mobile HTC HD2 since I heard T-Mobile one is faster than International one in terms of a size of rom and ram memory.
By the way, I'm still wondering if HD2 works perfectly and smoothly with the custom roms in this forum like true android phones(galaxy s, desire, evo etc...)
I'm currently using galaxy s but I'm planning to sell it.
Is it good decision to get hd2 instead of galaxy s?
Please give me any advice...
I like to handle or play with the phone
I think I will not be bored with hd2 that's why I try to sell Galaxy s and get hd2 although galaxy s is newer and android based phone.
Many questions are here! Please come and give me the answer.
Galaxy S vs HD2... is a close tossup.
I'd only do it if you 1) were extremely tech savvy... if you aren't to the point where compiling your own kernel object doesn't seem like like an insurmountable hurdle, the HD2 will be painful for you. 2) really want the extra screen size and 3) need the difference in money that you'd net from selling the galaxy s properly.
Right now, unless you are lucky enough to have an sd card that doesnt cause sleep of death issues (which, I've noticed, is more likely amongst those using non-SDHC cards), the phone is 'not ready for prime-time' imo. Maybe NAND will change that, maybe not.
I went from a Cliq to the HD2, and do not regret the decision at all, even though I have half the storage space that I had before, as I am forced to use a 2gb card to avoid SOD. But the Cliq was a really terrible phone, and I've heard nothing but good things about the Galaxy S.
just my 2 cents.
I'm not extremely tech savvy, but number 2) and 3) are suitable for me. I want hd2 since it has better design and big screen(even though the resolution and the color expression are not as fantastic as galaxy s.)
I already ordered T-Mobile HTC HD2 with 16 gb sd memory card. Is it okay to use?
It's sandisk. it is good?
I'd go with an actual Android as oppose to and HD2, unless price is a concern. A port is a port after all...

Better. I swear. Better.
My cousin that's staying with me has the Vibrant, and I swear, it isn't as good as the HD2.
Advantages of the Vibrant over the HD2:
-HD video recording
-AMOLED screen
-Better battery life
-1Ghz A4 Cortex Hummingbird CPU
Yup. That's all I can think of.
Advantages of HD2 over Vibrant (in my opinion):
-Heavier, more solid feeling (not just plastic)
-Larger screen (4.3" vs 4.0")
-Glass screen, nearly unscratchable.
-Flexibility (many different Android builds)
-Froyo (U.S. Vibrants are stuck with Eclair until the update rolls out later this month)
-Gingerbread (we will probably have it on before the Vibrant, if it gets it at all)
-Faster (unless you root the Vibrant and change the file system, which my cousin does not want to do)
I can probably go on and on, and I also wasn't comparing to other smartphones on the market as I haven't used them much.
Anyway, most of the HD2's advantages are due to the developers here. It can't get any better than XDA.
(it is my opinion stated above, some people might think differently)
Oh, how come?
I read one comment that actually hd2 is faster than actual android phones.
I am a Samsung Vibrant user and picked up a HD2 to tinker on with Android since updates for the samsung are painfully slow for me coming from a Nexus.
I am now in love with the HD2 and use it daily running android. My Vibrant is sitting on the counter with a dead battery collecting dust. If you love to tinker and like to try a nice huge variety of roms you will love the HD2.
Dont get me wrong the Samsung is a wonderful phone but the HD2 is a tinkers dream.

im using elegancia for winmo, froyostone for android
works like a charm with minimal issues..
radio rom 2.14 and 2.15 are most stable with battery usage fixed
there are many other combinations though

I disagree that you have to be super duper tech savvy to do this kind of stuff. A little bit of linux background doesn't hurt, but if you're comfortable with with tinkering and willing to learn and mess around some, Android on the HD2 isn't that big of a project. On the other hand, there is a fair amount trial/error and therefore a fair amount of time needs to be invested into getting your perfect Android build.
The hd2 will probably never run android as well as a galaxy s. It will always be a hacked on version of android on the hd2. A rooted galaxy with all the hacks you will find here on xda will make the galaxy run much smoother and better than the hd2. And i'm sure you will get gingerbread rom as quick as the hd2 does here on xda. It may not be official, but neither is any of hd2s builds. If you want to run android full time, stick with a native android phone. If you want to also have winmo on your phone, then the hd2 is a good choice... but don't expect to run android better on a hd2. The galaxy has a better CPU and gpu ... when you root it and apply fixes found here on xda, it will run android better than any current phone out there... except maybe the desire HD.

I'm using 2.15 ROM with ChunkyDroidROM and random Mdeejay builds.
One thing to remember with an HD2 with Android, if anything goes wrong, don't be angry, it wasn't supposed to have this anyway.
Cheers.
Enjoy the HD2
(above post is quite true, but I enjoy the flexibility. Oh, don't forget WP7 could be in the pipeline )

I wouldn't say faster than all of the Android phones... one of the fastest two maybe - then yea...
Quadrant so far has been the benchmarking tool for lots of phones... Galaxy kills with points over 2000 but that's only it scores high on 3D Open GL which is not utilized by the Android OS at all - therefore, yea - HD2 is one of two fastest Android phones - and it runs it from the SD Card ... I can't wait for NAND version just to get rid of this WinMo junk
Well I sold my galaxy s and bought an hd2 almost brand new and a used psp handheld with the money, I will never look back.
The galaxy s at first I loved that bright vibrant screen and the devices light weight, but soon even both of these points annoyed, the screen brightness could never be adjusted low enough for nighttime reading, the galaxy s had no flash for the camera, which I use a lot on the hd2 also this is such a powerful torch a well, but probably the biggest problem I found with my galaxy s was the unreliable gps and mine was better than some.
With the hd2 you get extreme flexibility the ability to try many many android builds you can mix and match your windows mobile roms with your android builds and play about with all kind of radios, you can try sense builds, standard builds to highly customised builds, one day on the horizon hd2 will get its chance to be a stand along android with the nand development, it might even get windows 7, my preferred choice of build is now mdeejays, evo warm with kernel 7.6, with a few tweaks and set cpui have this running all the time occasionally visiting windows mobile for the odd application that android doesn't have.
A lot of people will give you different combinations that work, it's all a case of "your mileage may vary".
I for instance run Chuckys Tabtastic GTX rom for WinMo and MDeeJey's Froyo HD 3.6 and everything is smooth as butter, so long as you don't mind the camera not working. (That's because the actual rom it's built from doesn't have the camera code available yet, but it will come soonish).
So long as you are willing to do a lot of initial reading and have patience before you start flashing anything you should love the capabilities and flexibility of the HD2. After all, pretty soon you should also be able to run MeeGo on it as well (and who knows, maybe even Windows Phone 7??)

Thanks for answer Reno,
I used to use N900 which has Meego OS. But I don't think it's as good as other OS... So slow on N900 (I think due to resistive touch screen and bad CPU)..
I'm expecting HD2 will get WM7 OS..
By the way, my new HD2 is T-Mobile version..
what do I have to install in order to install the roms on my phone?
the only issue i face with android on hd2 is light sensor i can't get it t work good
Hey, Someone is intrested in trading me an Hd2 (with the MDJ Cyanogen mod) for my Samsung Vibrant, but I don't know what to do lol, should I trade, or do you think my Vibrant is the best choice at the moment. Please let me know/HELP.
THANKS.
Personally, I don't see any reason to trade that for a HD2. It's a good phone, and apart from a vaguely smaller screen size I don't see anything better about the HD2.
Would you ever want to run Windows? Gingerbread is in a very early state for the Vibrant, so that's not immediately available.
Other than that, I'd keep the 16M colour Super AMOLED Gorilla Glass screen!!
I'd say keep it. One multi touch is atleast true multi touch on your vibrant, our hd2 gets iffy when it comes to that, the screen is supposed to be the best in the business, camera can record 720p, the hd2 is still in development for 720p recording and the vibrant is definitely faster than what our hd2's can do in android, if you've rooted it, tweaked it and maybe flash a custom rom. Well in all, if you're only here for android, the vibrant is a clear winner.
If you're here for winmo or WP7,well yes the hd2, for WP7, i say go for a true WP7 phone as while the hd2 can perform as regular and smooth as a true WP7 phone, it has some bugs which might ifff you out, you can check out the buglist in our WP7 forums Q&A to see what's not working.
The HD2 appeals to customers who want to tweak or play around with their phones.
Thanks guys, I was in confusion for awhile, I guess I wanted it just to play around it, I see them on youtube, and they look awesome running android, I'm rooted on my Vibrant, I guess I'm just bored since theres no source code released for the Vibrant yet, while the hd2 has working gingerbread, and a million more roms.
Well gingerbread whilst offers I think a boost in system performance, some apps are yet to be compatible with it.
Well if you really want to try out stuff, the hd2 will keep you occupied, it has a lot of stuff to try and do. However in my experience, some are laggy, some pose problems, some missing what you need, in all the HD2 isn't fantastic at whichever OS it runs, apart from winmo, which works great, but it is a very well rounded device.
@cashyftw
I can't believe your thinking about trading. I have read so many of your posts on the vibrant forums that I am kind of shocked. My wife has the hd2 and all though its a great phone with android it still has some quirks. I love the fact of the vast rom support the hd2 has but in time I think the vibrant will too. Stick with the vibrant. It can't be beat with awesome quality screen and hd video it takes.

Hey guys,
I am due an upgrade from vodafone UK and am thinking of either a sensation or a galaxy S II and was wondering if anyone here can help me out decide?
As i see it the specs are pretty similar, almost too close to call. AMOLED in the Samsung should give really nice blacks and decent battery i guess, but the biggest thing to separate the 2 is the UI, sense or touchwiz.
I love my HD2 and will keep it to hack around with and flash etc.
Thanks for any thoughts to split the 2 big android phones of the year.

As far as straight hardware the SGS2 wins. SAMOLED display, 1ghz ram instead of the 768MB in the sensation. 16gb internal storage instead of the 1gb usable in the sensation (with microsd expandable).
Let's talk software. Go look at the Galaxy S dev section of this forum, then take a look at the HD2, or the Desire, or other HTC devices.
Devs always seem to flock to HTC devices over Samsung.
Compare Sense 3.0 to Touchwiz... Not even close. Sense 3.0 is better in so many ways, aesthetically speaking, functionally speaking, integration with contacts, facebook, better widgets, better everything IMO.
of course, there will be an awesome CM7 for the SGS2 so if you don't care about sense, you may go with this, just remember the lag issues the Vibrant has, and some of the freeze issues and other things I hate about it. The Nexus S seems fine but there again, Google wrote straight code for that without Samsung ****ing it up.
I'm going Sensation personally, but the SGS2 is a phone to be reckoned with...
The one and only issue with SGS2 is the Samsung software, they can and do regularly screw up software on otherwise great phones, the SGS1 was a prime example of that imho.
If they kept closer to the google stock versions it would be my choice, but currently there is no real replacement for the HD2, I may keep mine and go sim only

Man dang good post, I agree totally with you on the Sensation A.K.A the Pyramid (I still that that was a cooler name). Personally I prefer the option of expandable memory with Micro SD over a fixed internal memory. I mean you do have advantages with a phone with fixed internal memory, but lets face it most devices now days with a quote "imternal memory" are really using a hidden SD card as the memory now and not a NAND chip. The SD card option is much cheaper for manufactures than NAND chips. But I still like being abale to remove my SD card and and use a card reader to transfer big files or print photos from it at a photo printer in store. It is a lot of advantages in havong removable storage to me.
Just my thoughts.

I actually agree with you after looking at it some more, I mean what if you want to move your media to another phone or something? How about if you want to boot a ROM from SD (something some android devices can do). I really hate the raid zero WP7 phones do with the SD, and although Android treats it differently, IMO NAND + microSD is the way to go.
I also agree the "Pyramid" is a cooler name. This will be my next device and worthy of upgrading my HD2 to. Samsung cannot code for **** and they would be better off making phones and having Google write their code or putting their hardware in iPhones (like they've been doing)
not swayed yet...

Good points. I have been seeing a lot of reviews lately of the Sensation. I have been waiting for a phone of its ilk for a while. However, from being an HD2 user, I really wanted to see power and battery life improved in the next phone i get. I am now an HTC lover, but I am really having a hard time understanding why they are lowering the bar on some of their new releases - especially the sensation.
It was a little odd that the sensation has less ram AND a poorer battery than the upcoming EVO 3d (which I am already getting grief from my Sprint friends), but after reading this review http://pulsene.ws/1HKxA I find out that it is not even up to speed with the competition. The first two paragraphs were eye openers.
I really don't want to jump the gun, like I did with the hd2 over waiting for the hd7. AND now I read that the Sensation Bootloader is locked as well?!?!? I am not saying that I will not get it, but I really don't understand why HTC is intentionally coming out the gate with a product that is behind.
Mmm ask Sony Ericsson that too. I think it's because general consumers could care less about the performance specs of a phone. E.g. Does it look good? How much Megapixels does it have? Front facing camera? HD video? How much storage? Touch screen? Lots of apps? Games? wifi? Does it work with 3g? How much is it? etc. Frig I don't care if the bootloader is locked, I don't even know what that is. That's something a general consumer would say.
Anyways I find the sgs 2 more appealing. Well mostly cuz of the overall space it can hold and the camera. 64 gb of space will rid me of my paranoia of the limits of memory, plus if the rumor of it holding a 64 gb sd card was true, well, "I love you". With all that space I can say goodbye to carrying around two sd cards and my zune lawl. And the fact that the sensation's bootloader is locked and i have no idea how long the "real" development of the device is gonna take.

I would rather have an Htc Sensations. I tried the ported one in my DZ, it looks awesome
Since you mentioned Soner, I should say Soner Xperia Arc is a good device.
But, it is not the best device. However, the Bravia Engine makes different display quality. It is so real, that's why they call it "Reality Display"
Cheers...
I have the same dilemma.
I went to see the Sensation and it was nothing special compared to my HD2, I like more the software in mine (CM7), the screen is too long and it is difficult to reach the notifications.
SGS2, The only Con I see is that is missing the notification light, and I'm addicted to it, I had the chance to buy it in Amsterdam but I didn't bc of this (not to mention the $850).
I'm waiting for something with 4.0 inches like the Incredible S..but I don't feel safe buying it bc it doesn't have warranty in the US.
My perfect phone would be the Nexus S with a good notification light..not BLN.

Hey guys,
I am due an upgrade from vodafone UK and am thinking of either a sensation or a galaxy S II and was wondering if anyone here can help me out decide?
As i see it the specs are pretty similar, almost too close to call. AMOLED in the Samsung should give really nice blacks and decent battery i guess, but the biggest thing to separate the 2 is the UI, sense or touchwiz.
I love my HD2 and will keep it to hack around with and flash etc.
Thanks for any thoughts to split the 2 big android phones of the year.

I faced the same question, I got the Sensation and am Super excited with it. Our root comes in by the end of the week, and we already have a couple of custom roms going. Definitely go for the sensation!
Well there are apps for you to use the LED buttons as a notification LED so not really a drawback.
Anyways it depends on what you want. If you want a super smooth experience, the sgs 2 is a good go, obviously from it having the best speced phone.
The sensation is smooth also, but not as much as the sgs 2 since sense is eating away. But as said as above, you get a complete experience with sense, meaning sense has functionality that other phones simply don't have.
One big drawback I find with the sensation however is that we are only left with i think 200mb ram. Now that is just sad for a device as itself. With the sgs 2, you are left with 500+, so you can expect yourself not to be lagging from no memory.
Now really, I can keep talking and talking, but as you see, my talking is biased towards the sgs 2, as i do think it is the superior, but that shouldn't persuade you. Really you should be out there trying out both devices, and then be choosing which, not letting me persuade you to buy "this phone". Man cannot be a follower forever.
First part of my Sensation Vs SGSII review now up http://t.co/oMbZwvn
Also upcoming video showing the SGSII Vs Sensation in playing my test video clips (range of codecs etc - 1080p/720p/MKV/high profile/DTS, AC3, Vorbis, dual audio sound/internal MKV subs, external subs etc).

Samsung's software on the SGSII seems to be lag free. I am yet to see any complain of any lag whatsoever.
None. Well at least if you get the Sensation you'll be bored, after having an HD2. Not a worthy upgrade I think. SGSII is well... Idk, it doesn't convince me. W8 for the next HTC maybe.

1 "ghz" of ram?? lol
hmm, I think you are confusing RAM and CPU
Count me in for the same debate 'should I go Sensation or Sgs2'.
I had the advantage to play with both devices at once for a couple of hours.
Personally I would say Samsung.
Yes, the software is not as good as the Sensation (note the 'not as' meaning it is not bad) but the hardware is top notch.
The screen of the SGS2 is very very good, even outside in the sun you see something which to me is important.
I also did some video tests and the Samsung wins. Less autofocus and luminance hunting, overal a much more stabile video than the oversharped and overcompressed Sensation video.
The speakers on the Samsung, well you can hear them unlike the tweeter sound on the Sensation.
The fact that they have donated a SGS2 to the CM team makes me think they want us to develop the ultimate machine which I really like since Android is and should be open source. Their native roms work ok for the crowd so why not have a team develope the ultimate for the xda kind of people. Very clever and wise Samsung.
Ok the body of the SGS2 is made out of plastic but what is not and there is a lot of quality difference in plastic. At least it absorbs when it falls.
Mmm by writing this I think I have made my mind up
Wait for galaxy with faster cpu ;-)
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
any phone of what so ever but no comparison to our beloved hd2..... body is awsm... and when u are buying a phone like sgs2 or sensation... u wont be thinking that the body will absorb the shock on falling cause when ull have it in ur hand ull be praying for its wellbeing and not falling ... and yes wait for evo3d
I have both the HD2 and the SGS2 (Stolen last saturday, but insurance will get me another one.)
I dont regret for a second that I preordered the SGS2, it outpreforms my HD2 by far. The screen is extremely good and the phone is stunningly lightweight, everyone who has held it has made comments on the weight. Batterytime is also alot better.
Regarding Touchwiz; I don't use it..Same goes for Sense on my previous HTC's
To me it seem like HTC tend to use cheap components in a lot of their phones, for example the speakers in all my HTC's have sucked compared to SGS2.
People say SGS can seem "plasticy" but I dont agree, everything is solid and non "squeeky" with the exeption of the button beneath the screen(my subjective opinion)
I would not hesitate for a second going for the SGS2, but thats me..
I am sure, CM7, Sense and MIUI will come to the SGS2 as more developers focus on this killer phone..
Sgs2 becoming the new HD2, would for sure be a dream come true
awsm...... if sgs2 gets customisation like hd2 .... damn .... a real dream will come true...
Okay so right now I'm using the evo shift but I'm about to switch to cincinatibell and was thinking of getting a hd2 because I'm an obessive flasher but I was wondering is the phone fast? Like my evo I've herd rumors that the speed is rediculously good like just as good as my shift I don't actually know how true that is what kinda changes would I be looking at if I did this would it be worth it I mean honestly is it as beast as the rumors I've heard or is it a p.o.s and I should concider a different phone
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Is it worth it ? depends on what it costs & what other device options are on offer.
HD2 is good for a cheap price, plenty of fun for a flashing junkie.
Downsides are: 1100Mah battery, no TV out, screen & motherboard issues are too common, sound quality is not the best, device can get hot very quickly.
I got my T-Mob version cheap but if paying close to full price it is out classed by other options.
1230 mAh battery, not 1100.
It's a good buy for a flashing junkie. And yeah, it's fast. It's the best Windows Mobile device and very good and fast Android/WP7 device. Of course there are faster and newer (and more expensive and not capable of multi OS), but there are also tons of slower devices.
Mister B pointed out downsides so... yeah, that's pretty it.
It would definitely satisy for disorder. On the note on whether it is fast. Yes it is fast, however your evo 3d should be a bit snappier.
To be honest, you won't find another phone with all these opportunities like the HD2, so if it's a ride you're looking for, this will give you one hell of a.
In terms of the best performance, you should look else where I suppose.
So its a great phone but like all phones has its issues (undrstandable) so aslong as I get it cheap then yes its worth it if not then find something else gotcha thanks every1 you helped me and I think I will be joining your community very soon jw is the android fully functional? And is it swype compatible?
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Swype is fully functional and Android, well, that depends on the ROM you pick. But on the whole, Android works very well on the HD2 (as does WP7 too).
I am on my second HD2, the first one being stolen after 6 months. I didn't want any other phone as a replacement. It HAD to be another HD2. For me, it's the best phone I have ever had and the most versatile that has ever been built. For a flash-junkie, it has to be the best phone in the world! Android either via SD or NAND, WP7 NAND, Ubuntu and Meego (the latter still rather wobbly) and of course WinMo 6.5 factory installed. You can still get them new via Amazon and co, but expect to pay about €450 - not cheap for a phone that is over 18 months on the market. Just goes to show that it is still a desirable piece of kit
seeing as you said your a flash junky like most of us here than def go for it. i barely got mine thursday after school and im coming from a captivate and you would have to be doing some really intensive stuff to see any lag what so ever and since your coming from a evo shift there really isnt much of a difference between it and the hd2 plus you can dual boot!!!!
not worth every cent (hryvnia) i paid.
i keed, i keed =P
Many good quality used ones from $200 - $250. Well worth it. This is the only handset I need till SGSII hits TMOUS.
And yes they can be fast with the Android ROMs

HD2 is a very nice phone. If you want to try different operating systems, it's the only choice. If you already know what you want, choose a new one with native operating system of your choice, if possible, dual core.
Used phone seems to be a very good choice nowadays, because people update their phones much too often.
It's awesome, I've switched to HD7, Vibrant and Nexus 1, and the HD2 buries them all in terms of flexibility, power and is a very well constructed device, glass and metal. I don't understand why folk say Evo has more power, isn't it the same hardware wise? The new 2ghz phones aren't valid yet as I read
most app's don't utilize the processor...besides, you know once you buy virtually any other phone, it will be stuck on gingerbread and have far less roms than XDA has for the HD2...
I love my HD2 and will for a long time coming..
Correction, they don't utilize the full power of the processor. Meaning whilst its not operating both cores, both are still being used, just one is a helper.

Very well said, I will hold onto mine until it completely dies. Then I eill still try to fix it if repair parts are still avaliable.
At the OP, the HD2 is the beast you have read about. The HD2 falls short of nothing except maybe undo able hardware mods like no font facing camera and no TV out. It can handle almost anything you throw at it software wize and hang right in there with the native devices of what ever OS you use with it. I would dare say ot was the introduction device and is the intruduction device for several people who knew nothing ofcthe mobile development community and giving some pretty awsome crash courses. I am ome myself, now I know a good bit about Windows Mobile, learning like a ton about Android right now, and will try Windows Phone 7 eventually. I use Android for my daily driver now. I do not think my life would be the same without my HD2 now.
Much as I like my hd2, there are a couple of drawbacks: 65k dual touch screen & shonky GPS. Battery could be bigger too, but that goes for most androids.
Sent from my Atari 600XL using cassette tape and a stamp.
I just started using the HD2 with Android and I'm blown away. My house mate wants to swap his iphone 4. I love the voice commands with google. Swype is amazing. I've used the Navigation feature which worked right away. It seems like there is nothing the phone can't do, coming from a Blackberry perspective.
I find that the phone is very fast.
i own an hd2. i tried the stock rom, customized stock rom, and 2 android builds. as for android, the cam and camcorder suck, theyre not asd sharp as on the stock rom. battery on droid sucks too. and call quality is very bad.
on a customized rom, the call quality sucks, cam is horrible, and batt drains a lot, but it does look good. and this is what i dont understand. why is fluff taken out of a custom rom then its cam and batt suck?
on the stock rom, batt is better than custom rom and android. call quality sucks but a patch can reduce the static greatly. everything else works sharply and perfect. but, it lacks apps.. and this is what kills the phone.
hope this helps.
According to me, the only things that go against the phone are the fact that it has no front cam, the screen is just a 65k and the speaker could have been a wee bit louder. Everything else software related has been or will soon be sorted out by the good folks at XDA. If you can accept the hardware limitations, take the plunge man. This phone is a flash junkies dream.
My hd2 is my first smartphone (comming from a old nokia) i still use my hd2 as a normal 'call & be called' phone
litle by little im feeling comfortable with the bazillion options
i got it cheap for 150 euro (+- 200$) in original/clean state .
This is my second hd2 and it is well worth it...it is a very fast phone when flashed to android
