3 days and still going
After three days battery life I wimped out and plugged in the charger. Just to be clear though, I'm not a power user and mainly use the NS as a phone (3-4 calls a day) and to read emails (again 3-4 emails a day). I also find myself occasionally experimenting and trying out apps. But bottom line, this morning I had 3 days and .... minutes on my battery with it at 24%. That's as good or better than any cellular I've ever had.

Wow, that's pretty amazing.
I would have loved to see some screen shots from your Settings/About/Battery Usage screens. Especially the one that graphs your juice.

How do you do screen shots? The juice graph was interesting. It was pretty linear for the first two days then dropped steeper the last 24 hours.

Huh? Not sure what you're trying to accomplish with the fanboys link...the iPhone has been able to do screen shots, UNROOTED/JAILBROKEN for a couple of years now. Press and hold Home & Sleep key...screen shot taken. Advantage on this one: Apple.
Anyways, I'm not going to tell someone to root their phone and wipe all their data just so they can take a screen shot for me. On the other hand, I can't imagine not owning a rooted phone, personally...ability to do screen shots is among the reasons.

Three Day Plus Battery
OK guys, here's snaps of my standard NS 3 day+ battery. I apologize for the crappy photos (and I'm a photo buff) but I'd already put the battery on charge when I realized how bad they were. Long story short 3D 58M ..S without redlining the battery.
Are you trying to say the battery lasts a long time? You turned on wifi and didn't touch the phone and left it in an area with perfect cell reception... I'm sure I could get mine to last 5 days or so doing that. By the looks of it, your phone has some serious issues with waking while asleep. There's a LOT of usage for the phone's screen not being on, that would be alarming to me.

How come display is not on the list?
Did you even use your phone?
He didn't use his phone....he left wifi on and left his phone on stand by for 3 days...
3 days stand by is still good... but I thought you got 3 days of use.
What's the point of owning a phone like this and not using it for three days?!?!?!
Yeah, very clearly never used the phone or display would be the top consumption, or at least somewhere visible on the first screen there.
@ OP (or anyone that can answer my question), in the 1st photo - how'd you get phone menu like that? Is it a setting within the phone, or an app/widget? Thx

I just got me Evo two days ago, and flashed DamageControl's rom. I don't live in a 4G area, so I have that shut off. I generally don't turn on WiFi or GPS unless I'm actually using them. I did have wifi on a few times yesterday, but for a total of no more than 45 minutes. I have three email accounts, two that update as soon as mail comes in, and one that checks every hour. My corporate and google contacts sync as well as both calendars. I have facebook syncing in the background as well.
I did a decent amount of emailing and some web browsing. Even with all that I went 23 hours and 36 minutes before the battery went red and it told me to charge it.
I was worried with all the horror stories I heard, but that was pretty incredible battery life for my average use of the phone.
Is your battery completely covered in the orange HTC wrapping or does it have spots on the back where you can see the silver underneath?
It looks like it's completely covered. Although I would say it's red not orange. I couldn't tell you which batch it came in as I got it off of Craigslist.

I did jack **** with mine and was able to squeeze out 28 hours
I usually average 2 days on a charge, usually at least 35 straight hours. Having a second backup battery gives me more than 3 full days.
I think most of the problem lies in how the phone charges the battery; usually it doesn't charge the battery to 100%, but it thinks it has. Some days I get 5 hours out of my phone and other's 12 to 15.
I've tried every tweak I can find and run fresh 1.0.1, too.
I think I'm going to have to buy that 2 batteries and charger for the HD2 on ebay for $10; anybody have that link?

Drocap2 works excellent
I am relatively certain the Evo battery has a break-in period. My first week owning the device I was running:
Voice
SMSPopup
Push Gmail
Push Exchange
3G on / WiFi off
Did some gaming, light browsing, lot of texting, moderate usage over the course of a day.
I got about 8 hours tops before the battery died. That was with the screen brightness at HTC's "medium" level.
Yesterday, I had the same running in the background, did the same things except I also read a bunch using the Kindle app, and used GPS a bit, and I was at 60% after 26 hours off the charger. No special "tricks" like task killers (ew!) or underclocking hacks or startup killers or anything.
Huh...I am not where near getting that much. About to start my fourth week with phone and still in the 12-14 hours.
Are you all doing the charging routine or just plugging in? If I just plug in I definitely only get to about 10pm. If I do the charging routine I can get still have about 30% by evening.
Was someone having issues with the battery life on the Evo??? Cause I'm not.
Well it seems I may have a problem here as my battery is being destroyed by my display. The usage on the pic is nothing compared to some crazy results I've seen. Heck I've seen 94% of my battery being used by my display. Is there a way to fix this?

If you search the threads (hint: use search), you'll see why it's a good thing.
To paraphrase and give you the TL;DR version:
Better the display taking up the battery than the 3G radio...

On any phone, the display is going to be the biggest source of power drain no matter what. This is why when a new display technology emerges, the developer always talks about the power saving ability of said technology.
Also, you need to understand that it is not 62% used, it is 62% of what IS USED. So if you used 30% of battery power then .30 * .62 = 18% of overall battery life is used to power the screen. It makes sense because no matter what you do, most likely your screen is going to be on, especially if you are reading xda.

OK. Thanks its just freaking me out. Sometimes ill leave the screen off and ill check battery usage and its like in the 90's so I'm like wtf I haven't used my phone. And I just got on xda too see if I can get a fix for this.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I just tried to find the thread but couldn't (thought I had it "subscribed to").
So essentially, the fact that you've got a 4" screen as the primary drain on the battery shouldn't be that surprising. It actually speaks to the efficiency of the device. In other phones, either the phone idle state or the cell standby state would be the biggest suckers of battery life, which is a bad thing as it's polling the towers too often which drains battery quicker.
There are a few tips in the forums to save battery life like auto-dim, use wifi instead of 3G (not sure if this one), use a black background, etc... But I do think that PaiPiePia did a great job at explaining it =)
As posted above it's not as bad as it looks but you can do something. Run jac's uv/oc w/color fix. It allows you to drop your brightness even lower. This works well for me as most of my use is indoors. Plus the kernel being under volted obviously helps.
Exactly if you have things that are using more power than your screen then you have problems.
as others have said, it's indeed percentage of USED battery. And display should always be using the most - unless you hardly ever use your phone.

Nope, that would do it. 2-3 hours would eat up close to 50% of your battery. I make maybe 20 minutes of calls a day at most, so display takes up anywhere from 50% to 75% of total drain.

This is from a normal usage of my phone. As you can see from the graph the last few hours were me connected to wi-fi constantly, tweeting, fiddling and browsing forums. Yes a quick drain but this is a phone!
My point of this post is compare this to tablets and netbooks. The majority last 6 hours, tops. The SGS II is a dual core, amoled phone. It was always going to be a beast on the battery. However if you use it wisely, ie only have Wi-Fi on when necessary, the phone lasts as this phone should.
It out performs most tablets and for the relative size of both screen and battery I would say that's hugely impressive.
Looking forward to your comments.

Your post is refreshing because of the following:
1) Clearly shows the display is the biggest drainer of battery. Anything else means you simply didn't setup your phone right or have some rogue app chewing stuff up.
2) You're not going bonkers with "OMFG my phone only lost 0% over 4 hours" and then post a graph that shows the screen was on for 2 seconds. Uh, well... duh! Completely stupid and pointless, glad your graph actually reflects real usage and battery drain.

now im gonna say this,
you people really shouldnt compare battery time like tht. Its the screen on time you should compare!! its far more accurate than this. i can get around 3h of constat use and connected to wifi. this is screen on time.
what's average screen time in hours for most users? i've been reading about 4 hours plus or minus 1. 8 hours is unreasonable on one charge? i like to read books so i am wondering about this. i highly anticipate this phone but the n9 kind of looks hot too if the rumor is true alien dalvik allows android apps on meego.
So what? You kinda never used your phone. Surf the internet connected via 3g and come back to tell me
So you use your phone less than my grandma and hardly get two days out of the battery?
Great, that's nothing to be proud of.
With this usage my Omnia7 lasted for a week but the SGSII drains harder than my kitchen sink.
I noticed light consumes unusually lot of power too .. I recommend not using it as torch. White screen works just as fine for me (in total darkness). It seems they put in even stronger LED then in previous models .. and it better be used just for the moment as photographic flash. Battery voltage drops significantly .. and it slowly returns after the LED is turned off .. which means it's really strained a lot.
I bet i can get 2 days of battery in the way you used your phone. Screen was rarely on, so you just showed us that you can get a day and a half of stand-by.
At the risk of being accused of grandma phone usage im actually fairly happy.. The wifi sharing thing is a ***** so axed that.
This is with stock but rooted ke7

100% is the maximum
therefore if we assume a basic scenario with three things using this 100%, lets say:
Android OS - 50%
Display - 30%
Something else - 20%
Total = 100%
Now, if we do not turn on the device's screen, the next result will be something like:
Android OS - 75%
Something else - 25%
Total = 100%
Does this mean that Android OS is now using more power? NO!
What this means is that Android OS has used a larger percentage of the power used BECAUSE THERE ARE FEWER PROCESSES GOING ON!!
In the above example, the total amount of power used has actually fallen.
But the genius folk who complain about Android OS (AKA idiots) all of a sudden believe that Android OS is now using more power and start moaning like a bunch of little girls. As you can see from some elementary mathematics... this is a load of b*ll*cks.
Do you understand now?

I bet you already know everything that is to know about them an you're ok that those, along the kernel drivers< let me enumerate for you, so you don't have to wake your brain from deep sleep and wait for the 1 sec lag: display, camera, wifi, keypad/keyboard(if present),audio, flash mem, BinderIPC DRIVERS and power management> are grinding so much battery that it depletes in , let's say, 20 hrs.
Well, my hat's off to you, sir. You hold the power and the knowledge to be perfectly satisfied with what others don't understand.
As for the one that suggested to buy the Sensation and quotes the display off analogy, what could I say more? He explained how battery works so I'll buy the Sensation or whatever he wants after he explains how magnets work.
Sorry, my mistake. You were perfectly right

I agree.
Everyone's just getting worked up over the percentages that are reported

Couldn't agree more. Because, either the percentages are not accurately reported or something is draining power when it shouldn't.
My mistake.
How long is the display up and running?
Heres an attached screenshot of my usage for the past few days.

You have no apps installed.
I have, only 96 apps though. We all have different usages.
Alright, if the percentage doesn't say anything, why don't they use another measures? Like mAh or other units.
Also these 15 hours WiFi was turned on most of the time. I used to turn the screen on and check Facebook/Google+/browse for 2-5 minutes, every 30-60 minutes. So let's just say the display was on for about two til three hours over this 15 hour period. Compared to 19% for the display I would say 50% is A LOT for AOS/CPU usage.
On a 2-3hr usage, at the AOS is THAT high its pretty much a LOT! Look at how low my AOS is compared to Andriod system, heck even cellstandby is taking up more power.

Yep that is awesome!
What are you running? Kernel, ROM?

Nice uptime, but I guess you don't use packet data OR talk to friends/ppl because after all it is a PHONE you have at your possession.
So it seems imo that you AREN'T a normal user like the most of us, making phone calls and receiving them in avg per day, which is about 1 hour (call and receive) and letting packed data being online.
Correct me if I am wrong about this analysis.
Without seeing your wake bar and wakelock stats its hard to have any idea what your phone is doing.
Try using better battery stats(link in my sig) to see if you have any out of place wakelocks.

First things first: A BIG thank you to all of the devs still working on the Epic. This phone is not that old and I still think (because of the keyboard) it's a great phone that I'll enjoy for all of the 2 years I'll have with it. Fortunately, there are others who think this, too and put in the time and effort to make this already great phone better for FREE. I'm not a developer, but I do know it takes a lot of time/dedication to accomplish what they have. So thank you to all of the developers (present & past) for the Samsung Epic 4g
Hello, I'm a lurker none of you know but would like to share my results dealing with battery life on EH06
This is the best battery life I've ever gotten and I have no doubt that I could've reached 1 Day 12 Hrs (36 Hrs) of battery life. A day and a half, I guess I should've waited and let it run out, but my impatience got the best of me.
What I did was flash crawj's EH06 deodexed .tar
I flashed theduce102's (EH06) Copy & Paste ROM Stock Cyan v1.1
I then flashed deano0714's Sculpted v2
I was using the EH06 Modem
Auto-Sync was left on the entire time. Twitter/Facebook sync every 4 hours, contact sync left on.
Brightness left on "auto"
Wifi is left on always, at least until I was out of range.
Personally, I highly recommend juice defender. It'll turn off your data when the screen is not in use which saves a LOT of battery. Sure you could turn it on and off yourself but it's just much easier to use juice defender and have the data turned on for 30s/1min then left off for 30 minutes. 30 minutes is the max for the free version, but I still find it useful.
Take into consideration that I did NOT use my phone a lot.
My usage consisted of about 5 texts/hr, few downloaded apps/updates, few email checks, couple hours of listening to music, 20 minutes on Dolphin Browser HD.
If there's anything else you want to know about my setup, let me know and I'll update the OP.
The colors in the pics are inverted, most likely because of the screen cap app I used

I also got 35+ hrs on EH06 deodexed with the EH06 plus kernel. It was pretty amazing... Didn't take any screenshots though...
A year ago on Eclair it lasted 2.5 days. Complete stock, no root.
this is all nice but I've kinda never understood the point in having a smartphone if you're going to have data shut off the majority of the time. of course most battery life is demanded by data - I'm willing to bet I could get several days of battery life from any build if I put my phone into airplane mode all day but what's the point?

I feel the same way. I used to be obsessed with keeping my data off as much as possible. Then I realized....what's the point. The whole purpose of having a smartphone is to be connected all the time. I say keep your data on and use your device how its meant to be and enjoy it.

yes. plus where are these people that they can't access a wall socket or power cable for days at a time? I can get 14-16 hours with moderate usage by leaving everything turned on. then when I'm home where all those power sources are, I, you know, plug the damn thing in.
What's ridiculous is that these people never made or received a single phone call in 1 to 2 days. WTF? Why did you buy a phone? Go get yourself a Palm Pilot.

I hear ya. I usually get between 10-12 hrs of moderate to heavy use. If your that worried about it bring an extra battery with you. Shoot I carry or have quick access to an extra battery and a charging cable most places I go. I usually don't have to use it, but its there in case I need it.
@OP, were not trying to derail your achieving over a day of battery life, that's sweet that you can get that. I'm just questioning the usefulness of said achievment.

And screen on time....sorry OP but what was the screen on time. Maybe a little over an hour? I saw a lot of gaps on chart.
Having said all of that, that is still pretty good standby time for a GB leak. I've gotten 1 day plus 3 hrs with everything running before. But that's with srf 1.2 and with hardly any use...plus wifi.

I like this post I had my phone shut off on my yesterday at 4pm and it was full at 8am when i took it off the charger. Didnt do much of anything it somehow jumped from 50 to 25 all by itself. Im on genocide 1.1 and srf 1.2
