First off, I wanted to apologize for posting this in the Droid 2 thread, but seeing as there is no milestone 2 thread, I saw no better place to write this.
So I recently decided to purchase a milestone 2 from Expansys USA to replace my current Android phone. However, I noticed that the one sold on the site is the european version and therefore does not work on AT&T's 3g network (850,1900). However, a motorola site implies the existance of a milestone 2 that does on fact work on these frequencies.
My questions are:
Does this model in fact exist?
If it does, is there anywhere online where I can purchase said model?
Thanks in advance.
It exists . It is being sold in Argentina by a carrier called Personal.

You might try a Droid 2 Global it has GSM and CDMA capabilities and can usually be unlocked for global SIM card use and unlocked to work on AT&T's network (Verizon locked out US GSM bands).

Hey all,
My buddy managed to get his hands on a Droid 2 while at the MAX conference this week. Unfortunately for him, we are in Canada. If I were to root his phone could I just use the Telus radio frequencies that I use for my milestone on it?
Thanks!
I forget which Canuckian carriers are which, but if you have a Milestone, then Telus would be GSM and the Droid 2 won't work at all. You'd need to use one of the CDMA-based carriers to even have a chance.
Next is provisioning...all the programming for your carrier. I am not sure if the current level of unlocked-ness allows for other carriers' provisioning or not...someone with more knowledge in that arena would have to chime in, but I am leaning toward no, as I have not seen any discussion about converting a D2 to work on Sprint, etc.
And even if that works, the carrier will determine how easy it is to get going. They may activate out of network ESNs with no fuss, or more likely they will not allow it, in which case you have to go more illegal routes, that IIRC are not even allowed to be discussed on here.
FWIW, I used a Droid Incredible in BC (Vancouver, Victoria, Whistler) this summer. Worked fine, for the most part. However, I have a Verizon account and paid for their Canada roaming and international data packages. So I did not work directly with any Canadian carrier. But at the basic technical level, the phone CAN work in Canada.

Thanks guys ^^ I'll let my buddy know his phone is really just a android touch in Canada.
Hey all,
Instead of making a new thread, I figured I'd should just pull this one back since it's the same question.
I've been seeing talk about a droid 2 global. Is there now a way to make a droid 2 from the states work in canada?
Thanks
Hi board,
I've been closely following the Droid Pro since its announcement, as I love the form factor, and I was wondering if it would ever land in Europe - and as far as I am concerned, in France .
I couldn't find anything about that, but maybe I missed something!
Thanks for any hint!
It does have European 3G(along of course American CDMA 3G), so you could always buy one off ebay get it unlocked and you should be set for use with whatever sim you choose(default is Vodaphone as they have majority shares in Verizon).
Thanks for the advice. Do you know in what the unlocking process consists?
I've read that it was basically hardwired against AT&T & other Verizon competitors but that it would be free for the rest of the world.
Well so far from what I read the Droid 2 and Pro do not work in America or Canada without a firmware hack, but people at XDA are working on to fix that. The unlock is fairly simple, as you call the carrier up and ask for unlock code which should be free if have customer with good standing account, or been with them for like 90 days. I am sure code(s) will be listed somewhere in the coming weeks(it just came to retail stores today as it was online only at first) if you google it.
According to a couple of people here the DHD can work for tmo ON 3G in the states if you unlock the sim apparently how much of this is true?
Dhd works on gsm. Any septic supplier on gsm will provide service. Just like any other gsm phone. I sent ny dhd to canada and it worked great with Rogers and telus.

Did 3g work? Or edge?
It never ceases to amaze me how many people ask this question when the information is so easily obtained. In the spirit of you asking a question which has been addressed countless times on XDA forums in general, I will not provide you with an answer but the tools to find them.
Go here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
...and match with what you find here:
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2598&c=htc_desire_hd_a9191_htc_ace
Hint: btw "UMTS" means 3g freq.
Ya. It worked in Mexico, L.A., and Vancouver. I didn't use it much ad T-Mobile U.K. charges £7.50 per mb downloaded when you're roaming. I used a Mexican sim and a Canadian sim and it all worked. Gsm is normal in Europe. Cmda only seems to be in the states from what I've seen. Sorry sprint hero and evo users, I'de never heard of a phone without a sim abd that's coming from a Canadian across the Atlantic living in London.

Most of Verizon's world phones are SIM locked, and you either have to get it unlocked, or use Verizon's SIM card. I figured it would be the same for this phone. However, I read somewhere that the pre-release version is unlocked out of the box. I'm guessing by pre-release, they mean the one that was given to the press at the launch event.
Anybody know if all the Ms are unlocked from the factory? Specifically, what I'm after is to find out if they can be used on AT&T or T-Mobile in the US without any modifications. The earlier Motorola world phones needed modifications to do so, but it's worth a shot to see if this maybe is different. Just being generally unlocked saves a step, too, but if someone can provide the information on whether it is unlocked for US bands, that would be great.
I can confirm it does not allow calls using a US T-Mobile SIM. It does show the voicemail indicator and my t-mo # correctly in settings, but I think its just reading that from the SIM card itself.
Doesn't verizon unlock after 90 days good standing? I know for iPhones they do. Might be something I'll try in a few months.

Thanks for the info! I'm not sure if that is the typical behavior or not. I forgot what my Droid Pro did before I unlocked it.
Verizon usually does unlock it if you've been a customer for more than 90 days. They still won't let you use the US networks, though...just international ones. Hopefully P3Droid and his team will work their magic on this one. I know he already ordered a Dev Edition of the M.

It sounds like it is SIM unlocked since it's reading from the T-Mobile SIM at all. I believe all the Razr & Razr Maxx officially come as SIM unlocked from the factory, so I would guess the Razr M would too. It still has the network block for US GSM networks, but that's different than the SIM card.
I'm interested in getting the Razr M to replace my Droid Pro, so if anyone could confirm, that would be great!

That could be, and maybe it's just Verizon's policy these days, considering the iPhone 5 ships unlocked (and the iP5 has no US band lock, either). Hopefully someone can try it with an international SIM when they travel and let us know.
Now that a few people have gotten the Dev version in their hands, any differences on that one as far as the SIM unlock goes? Since Verizon doesn't sell that directly, maybe Motorola left the US bands unlocked on that one.
Is The RAZR M SIM Unlocked From The Factory?
Is there anything new on this?
Sim is Unlocked, it will read any sim but US-Sim seem to be Radio Locked.
Which u can bypass by an Aussie Radio. And then u can use it on T-Mobile or AT&T
I will be able to verify in 1-2 weeks if it will work on an International Sim with out any modification.
Sending my GirlFriend her Razr M to Germany so she can test it on O2.
Yeah, it's unlocked, and you can use it on T-Mobile and AT&T with the Australian radio, but nobody has been able to consistently get 3G on either carrier.
Does anybody test the phone outside of the U.S?
Any word?

I can confim that the razr m is sim unlocked for international use out of the box no modification required. My sister uses one on koodo mobile (canadian service provider) with her koodo sim. When she comes back to the states she pops in the american sim it came with and uses on my verizon plan.

I can confirm that everything works internationally, tried in Italy and Singapore. Also, the network in italy was on the 900 frequency band, so that works for sure, haven't tested 1800 but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Does it mean that all models of razr m are factory unlocked? I know there are 3 versions of razr m XT905, XT907 and XT902. Just wonder if I can unlock my XT902.
I just purchase a Moto X Play on Swappa and it was listed in the XT1562 group but the seller had a pic of the "about phone" screen with the model #XT-1564 listed. I couldn't find any information anywhere on this specific model. I purchased it after talking with T-mobile and they Guaranteed it would work on their system with no issues...
Any ideas?

A quick Google search and found this

Based on the naming of the firmware, this variant is specific to Brightpoint US. Meanwhile XT1565 is specific to Verizon aka Droid Maxx 2.
That's strange since this the Moto X Play wasn't released in the states...
Xt1564 is the variant issued to regional cdma carriers in USA partnered with Verizon under their lra (LTE in rural America) program.
I work for one of the carriers that sells this phone and it's like an unbranded Droid maxx 2 which is what the play is I think? Also the accessories we sell for the phone is branded for Droid maxx 2. We tested this phone to see if gsm unlocked with an AT&T sim and it worked fine LTE and all. Unable to verify for t mobile or band 12 support. Sorry not the best reply but hope this helps those who wonder about this variant.

I was told by T-Mobile this should work without an issue. I'll let you know in the next few days, mine is arriving tomorrow. I'll set it up before I leave the States and then test it in Europe.
Well, set the phone up and used it in Switzerland for a few days. Then came back to the States and have had no issues whatsoever. Great phone with incredible battery life, I would highly recommend!
Yeap device is for Rural America is the one I received here in Puerto Rico factory SIM unlocked single sim 16gb Moto X Play XT1564
I would love to see if this worked on Verizon.

It will, it's originally for Verizon lra partner carriers which run on same network types of Verizon itself. cdma and LTE band 13. Some features native to vzw may not work like VoLTE and stuff though.
Can you speak more on the price or how to get one of these @evilryry ?
Would love to get my hands on a non-bloated Play/Maxx if I could.
My carrier I work for sells full price for like 399, I'm not sure how people can get them outside of the carriers that offer it

Interesting. Are you able to say the carrier or provide a website to order? Seems cheaper than a full-price Maxx.

My carrier I work for, bluegrass cellular, does not sell phones to people who don't have lines of service with us. Can't speak for other carriers. This is a list of carriers partnered with Verizon under their lra partnership, who may carry this phone. Some carriers don't have it.
Bluegrass Cellular; Cross Telephone; Pioneer Cellular; Cellcom; Thumb Cellular; Strata Networks; S and R Communications;*Carolina West; Custer Telephone Cooperative; KPU Telecommunications; Chariton Valley Communication Corporation; Appalachian Wireless; Northwest Missouri Cellular; Chat Mobility; Matanuska Telephone Association; Wireless Partners; Triangle Communications; Nemont; Mid-Rivers Communications and Copper Valley Telecom.
Thanks for the lead @evilryry Looks like the prospects of buying one outright are pretty low after searching a few websites - I need to live in a service area AND sign up for service. It's no wonder they lock down what is nearly a perfect phone hardware wise to specific location services/carriers.
If you find a way to get one, please put me on the short list of people who really want one.
