[Q] Failing Desire HD! - Desire HD General

Ok, so im new to the world of android phones, using a desire HD, so dont have much idea what to do quite yet, however, my phone seems to be slowly dying around me since last weeks update to android 2.2.1!
First I noticed about it was new years eve (last night) when I saved a text message in my drafts, then tried to pull it back up again, now all I get is
"The application Messages (process com.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" and it shuts down messages.
After reading up on here and a couple of other forums, it seems to be a common bug with the new update that came out over xmas. Not too much of an issue though, and seems to be able to work around it by installing a couple of apps from the market.
So I head over to the market, and I can open the initial app, however, whenever I try to do anything on it, whether it be search, or tap an app to get some info, im now constantly getting
"The application Market (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" and also crashes out!!
Earlier this evening, I had a notification of an update for something, but got the above message and then Dolphin Browser would no longer open.
Ive only had this phone a month, after waiting 2 months for it, and im starting to regret it now, as I cant access any draft messages which I use fairly often, nor can I get any apps on a system which is designed to get more apps to run smoothly!
All the suggestions ive seen online havnt worked if ive tried already, the only thing left seems to be a hard reset where I will lose all my data and settings, but even then some reports are saying even that doesnt sort the problems! Will the SD card get wiped in a hard reset too??
One thing mentioned has been to go into application settings, and to uninstall updates, but I dont see this option. Ive cleared cache and data to no affect, and the only other option is uninstall the market app!
Any help appreciated!

Hi there
Seems like your phone is acting up on you! Well there's nothing to worry about, we can soon fix that. If your phone is rooted/has Clockwork Mod Recovery Mod, i'd suggest a nandroid backup. Hmmm...I don't know if there is a way to backup messages, but the general idea is if you are writing a message and press home, it should save into draft for that person. Once you have a nandroid backup, try flashing a rom similar to stock...as close as possible. However, don't wipe data or anything, just install new rom over the old one. In theory, this should fix errors but keep your data. However it may not do so in reality, hence the nandroid backup earlier. Good luck, and I hope I helped

bizarre error in market

Howdy. Most of the time when I try to download an app I get an error saying process com.android.vending and then I have to force close the download. Some apps can get thru I think the error only comes up with apps that need system permission( like using the internet or etc) I have googled the everlovin crap outta it but no dice. Hoping to find some help hehelp here. Thanks in advance......
i have the same issue, i think
I can get all the way to the last dialog, when it tells you what stuff the app needs to run (ie contact info, net access) I click ok and get that same force close error....
Now I have to say mine didn't happen till I tried to move my cache, to my sd card, I got 1 to download out of 15+ attempts. I have also removed the "hacks" that moved it to sd, to put it back internal and still no good, I'm gonna keep working it out today, so if I don't post another reply in the next 12 hours, my only fix was to hard reset and start over...
Like, enter your gmail account, redo settings & dl apps kinda "start over", kinda PITA, as my calendar alone will take an hour to re-set up all my stuff, sux.
Best of luck,
BhangbhangBHANG
Edit:
IN NO WAY DO I BLAME THE HACK OR THE PERSON WHO POSTED IT, I MUST'VE DONE SUMTHIN WRONG.
Sorry for the caps, just wanted to get that point across
i havent tried moving my cache or anything like that (accidentally accepted ota update) but i cant seem to figure it out at all. plus im loathe to call tmobile...just really dont feel like getting the runaround today.....

[Q] Issues downloading apps from marketplace after firmware upgrade

HI all, this past weekend Kies popped up with a notification that there was a firmware upgrade for my Galaxy S. I immediately downloaded and installed it, I guess a newbie mistake. When completed I found that all my apps vanished and my settings went back to out of the box state. Though annoying I spent much of Saturday morning trying to get my phone back to where I had it before the update. The issue now though is that when I log into the market I find I am unable to download certain apps, I get to the install button on the phone then I get an error message "file not found". This is troublesome as there are a few apps that I had before the upgrade that I can no longer install, including paid apps, (examples Pandora, Pure Calendar) nor am I able to install certain new apps. I read that the market will no longer display protected content after this upgrade. I spoke to Samsung who told me to take the phone back to the Bell store. Bell told me to call Samsung as it is a firmware issue
Has anyone else experienced this, and does anyone know of a solution to the problem.
Thank you

Some people suffered market problems after upgrading to the UK-released JM1 last week. Apparently Samsung has to notify Google that they released an official update, so that Google allows access to paid and copy protected apps for that firmware. It took a couple of days for everyone to see everything over here. Maybe you just have to wait a bit (?)
Same happened here in Australia.. It was fixed the next day. I called Samsung to complain about it (when it was still happening) and was told that there was nothing they could do (which seemed like rubbish to me)..
If you are updating to a unsupported (beta) fw, make sure you install a rom or replace your build.prop file with a supported fw file.
Hi my phone is a month old now, everything is stock..no mods so far..I am having multiple problems with my phone.
- I cannot download anything from Market..it starts download and then 'download unsuccessful'
- FM radio never worked for me, not even after manually tuning it.
- I am not able to use wifi..it just says 'obtaining address...'
I did a factory reset yesterday and after that I was able to download 2~3 apps from Market..but today I am facing the same issue again.
Please help me guys..
Thanks guys for the help, it turns out that the issue was exactly what you said, but maybe more to the point, my own impatience.
Thanks again

I am on the Captivate running the beta I897UCJH2 firmware. I have market issue with some apps (e.g., Asphalt 5 HD, Fandango, and G4Tv) not showing up. I tried your method of copying over the build.prop file from the official I897UCJF6 firmware release. Even rebooted after doing that. The missing apps never showed up, so I reverted back to the JH2 build.prop file. Any other suggestions to fix my issue?
P.S. - Spoke too soon. This does work. Someone suggested clearing Market cache, followed by reboot, and then installing and reinstalling a couple of apps. And that did the trick.
from what i can gather it seems to be related to a location issue, as in certain apps will not show up for some countries and other apps will, etc.
so if you load firmwares from different geographic location the market is filtering what it allows/not allows bassed on the rom firmware location.
it'll be great if we can remove that filter and have it show everything online.
the work around that i do is find and download the apps via browser, instead of market
also avoid the barcode scanner downloads, which just launches the market app

Are you saying there a site where I can get the all the apks for these missing apps downloaded by bypassing the market? I have never run across it so far. Every one of the solutions so far has the phone launching the market app at some point, which fails, as the apps are not listed or downloadable there. The apps I am talking about are all free and should be legally able to be sideloaded, but how?

Can't DL from Market, Can't Connect to GTalk

Anyone else having these problems?
Starting Download...
When you try to download from the Market, it hangs at "Starting Download..." and stays there for days? When you try to open Gtalk it perhaps immediately force-closes?
I was trying to find the solution to this for about four or five days - in the end, I had to do a factory reset. Google is (mostly) unresponsive about this problem.
Things I tried:
Toggling Wifi (nothing)
Changing google acct password so the Market has to ask for it again, perhaps resetting something? (didn't work)
Clearing data, cache, the whole shebang from Gtalk, Market, Gapps (no juice)
Couple of restarts (noooope)
Starting downloads and then killing the Market app - still nothing, and done mostly as a last resort.
Possible causes:
It was not tied to rooting the device - what I think happened was when I went to purchase Root Explorer, I had to create a Google Checkout subaccount, and then I was able to grab it...but after that, I could not install any apps from the Market. It seems like internationally this issue is tied to being @googlemail vs @gmail, but that wasn't my case. I've since restored Vb to her former glory, but it was tedious...factory resets suck and I hope I never have to do another one.
What I've done to keep this from happening in the future:
ROM Manager and Clockwork Recovery. I had backups of my apps and data on my computer of course, but this is soooo much easier.
I'll definitely let you know if it ends up flailing out on me again, but so far I haven't had any problems. If you have an app to back up your stuff, or if you want to just do it manually, do that and then selectively restore things after the factory reset. I actually had so few apps that I ended up just re-downloading them from the Market and everything is working smoothly, but that might be a hassle for others.
I had this problem back on my G1 but that was because I removed the IM.apk package not knowing what the result would be. I got it reinstalled and all was well. I've not run into this issue yet with my Vibrant nor do I know anyone else who has.
Had the same issue and found a way to fix it.
Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Filter -> All -> Download Manager -> Clear Data
Should work. Worked twice for me. I think this is a Vibrant issue

Not so, fortunately or unfortunately. People have been having this issue for over a year and a half, and different things fix it for different people.

How I fixed persistent Force Closes on Fire

This may seem dumb to people who know a lot more about development than I do, but I had an issue that I was having a hard time with and came up with a solution that worked. So, I wanted to share it in case anyone else has the problem.
Background: My phone was rooted. I had side loaded some apps including my favorite keyboard that I use on my Galaxy S called TouchPal. There is a whole thread on installing alternative keyboards in the development section.
After I side loaded TouchPal and followed the instructions in the alternative keyboard thread, I was getting consistent FCs and system dumps. My KF wouldn't let me do anything for more than a few seconds without FC and system dump. The system dump is what was really killing me. I couldn't access anything because the device kept going back to the dump after every FC.
I went to different threads and was trying to do some things like unbrick or uninstall the app through adb. But I am too dumb to follow the instructions precisely so in desperation I wondered if I could do anything in those few precious seconds I had when the device was not experiencing a FC.
Now, during this process below I was constantly having to continue after a Force Close until I could do it fast enough that the device didn't have time to FC before I had completed the process. It's seems very simple, but it did work and you have to be quick:
1. Hit the quick menu
2. Hit "More"
3. Hit "Device"
4. Hit "Reset to Factory Defaults"
After I did this, the device started to go back to a default state even though I was continuing to get FC as the device was doing this.
Eventually it was able to complete and the device rebooted. After it was done booting, I was still getting FC from the TouchPad keyboard, but I wasn't getting the system dumps, which is what really prevented me from doing anything. Finally, I was able to get to my applications and "Force Stop" the TouchPal keyboard. Then I was able to remove it.
My situation may be unique, but I hope it helps someone.

lots of phone issues

I am getting lots of problems with my phone. I recently bumped by Nexus 6p to the beta releases, and noticed apps and the OS/phone as a whole, crashing and restarting. This happens randomly sometimes. I will have Maps open, and Maps closes, and asks me if I want to re-launch it. I do, and within minutes sometimes it force closes again. And when I go to view other apps I have open while I have maps open, and switch to it, or begin to use another app, I also run into issues (apps/phone crashing). I also get, upon reboot sometimes, an error message saying my phone is corrupt. I also will be running a app like Maps, and I once got about 10-12 pop-ups telling me that these apps needed to force close, and asked even if I wanted to restart, even though I don't recall launching some of them (must have been running in the background).
Would a factory reset work, or should I go back to the stable rom, or should I root, or do I need to rma this? I am trying to switch to another rom, and looking at unlocking my phone, but can't copy my files to my desktop (Windows 10): "Calculating the time required to copy the files". It stays at this for a while. Then it begins to copy, and after a short while, I get a pop-up saying "Error Copying Files or Folder" "Unspecified error". Any ideas on where to go from here?

You're running beta so problems can be expected. Go back to the stable Marshmallow builds. You should just be able to unenrol from the Android N Beta Program to do this and get back to MM.

I noticed that if I do roll back, I will loose all of my data. Would you know what is going wrong when I try to get the files off of my phone when copying them?

It's too hard to say. I remember trying to get Windows to play nicely with my Nexus but it wouldn't, I didn't spend very much time trying to get it going though because I very rarely use Windows anyway (Linux user here). Sorry I can't really be of any help with this, hopefully someone else can chime in.
