Got my SGS some days ago and I ' m now
thinking of rooting, flashing and applying lag fix .
I just have some basic questions related that is
hard to get a definite answare of because of all
the posts.
Here ' s how am thinking of doing it . Comment
if this is the wrong way to proceed:
1 . Root my phone using : [REF ] Howto root your
SGS I 9000 the easy way (keep all your data ) ( all
firmwares)
2 . Flashing phone with JM2 or JM5 . (Any
recommendations of which one to choose ?)
Getting the firmware from samsung-
firmware . webs
3 . Applying a lag fix . I don ' t know which one to
choose . Open to suggestions .
Correct me if am wrong , but with the lag fix of
partitioning the SD card into ext 3 /4 and fat 32,
is the ext 3 /4 for applications and the fat 32 for
storing pic, film and music ?
If applying this lag fix , will the applications
downloaded from the market install
automatically in the ext 3 /4 partition or ?
I have a 16 gb SD card. I also need the phone
to be able to communicate with mac. With that
I mean the posibility to set the phone in USB
debuging mode and transfer multimedia files to
my SD card.

IMHO the correct order should be:
1.Flash
2.Root
3.Lagfix
because when you flash with Odin, you wipe your phone.

This is an Asian firmware. I live in Norway and need one that is correct for my region.
If applying JM5, can I use the same LaxFix?

Thanks for fast replay.
After applying Laxfixes that moves the location of the application data and other folders, do I have to do something when installing apps from the market? Or can I use the phone the way I use it out of box?
One last question: Is it only custom rooms that apply new themes or is there a way to only apply new themes whitout doing anything to the room? No need for a guide. Only what option I have.
Thanks for solid help!!

You can install wallpapers and widgets to change how your home screens look.
If you want to change the whole theme there are a few out there that you can use (like LauncherPro) and you only need to install Home Switcher to use them. They are all found on android market.
Flashing themed custom roms also does the trick and comes with a few extras like lagfixes. I have not tried because I see no need fot it atm.
You can also try the mods described at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752200&page=3. If you feel creative you can use your own images instead of the ones supplied
Can i recommend jm5 and samset 1.9d mod? Then install ext4 mod. Use paragon wibdows app to format ext4 using a memory card reader. Works great for me

How is your benchmark score? But is this samset a custom room with different theme? What is the ext4 mod? A lagfix? Is it possible to apply ext4 without samset?
Or do you realitet recommend the samset room?
Is it possible to update the phone with samsungs official froyo update when it arrives when the phone have been flashed?
Strange animations problems with Froyo and Micro SD Card with "high" quantity files.
Hi \o
Sorry for my bad english, my lessons are far away behind me :-x
I have a strange issue with my SGS (i 9000 + Froyo Tayutama) > I use a Kingston Micro SD (16Gb, class 4), which contain a folder who have ~35 other folders.
These folders have approximatively 150/250 image files (~400Kb per file) > total = ~2.4Gb
When the SD is mounted, the SGS scan folders (it take ~30s), and everything seems ok.
Seems only > all animations are pretty laggy, the app drawer is sometimes pretty unusable because when I slide, it select an app, etc. ALL animations are bad, even with Launcher Pro +.
Voodoo or OCLF have no effect on this > the UI is pretty ok, but animations sucks.
When I unmount the Micro SD > everything is OK
I tryed many roms (RomMod, original JPM/JP6/JPA, Tayutama...) > all Froyo roms have the same issue for me.
I tryed some Eclair roms (JM2/5/9), NO animation problem, everything is really smooth and clean...
I looked in the Micro SD Card, have a folder with many thumbnails (for Gallery app?), it contain thumbnails of ALL image files in my MSD, and this folder is hard to navigate (too many files) > maybe the problem is here, too many files in a folder on FAT32 file system ?
Maybe u are right about that. One thing you can try is backup all the data and format the card via phone in settings/sd card/unmount/format. And also check the filenames and are if they are under 16 letters as kies does not work when it finds files with over 16 letters. Also see if u can delete the gallery cache to let it refresh and see if it helps. If them tips don't work then I'm sorry I can't help you

Thanks for reply.
The Micro SD is brand new, bought only for my SGS, and have been formated when I was on JM7. I'll try to format it, and reinstall my files only, maybe the cache is not used with same conditions between Froyo and Eclair... ?
I'll try in a few minutes, thanks again.
Sooo, I've tested to reformat my Micro SD Card > i put all my images/photo, the gallery remake the thumbnails, and now it seems ok.
I think the thumbnails system is different between Eclair and Froyo, maybe it's why I had problems with this on Froyo only.
Thanks again
Hello,
Someone kindly help me to understand the installation directories for the Apps and Games on Android's internal and external storage please ..
i have the DHD rooted and S-off ..
i understand how apk can be installed from Market and through 3rd party application and so on .. but certain games won't work .. due to missing data files..
so i am wondering how the installation directories work?
for app and game's main program .. it's installed to:
/data/app/"...app names..."/ ---> main program file
/data/data/"...app names..."/ ----> data files
is this correct?
for the games, where does the data files reside?
under /data/data/" xx "
or under /sdcard/android/data/" xx " ? if we want to save the internal memory?
for example, a game which is like 1xxMB large .. but i couldn't find out where the large data file was installed to .. after performing the move2SD .. it seems to me only the main app program "like 2, or 3 mb" is moved to sdcard only ...
You don't ever need to move apps to the SD card on the DHD. I don't understand why you would be asking this, unless it was for piracy.
If you want to backup data/games/apps use Titanium backup, if you want to force apps to the SD card (which is totally unnecessary on the DHD) you will have to root install clockwork recovery and install an APP2SD ROM, i.e. CM 6.1 and force apps to the SD card.
thanks for the reply.
I just want to know where they save all the files .. so i can save the internal memory .. though it's 1.5gb big ..
i have used the titanium ..and it has a feature to move app to SD .. is that the same function you mentioned about? or i need to flash another rom for it.. hmm ..
and when i uninstall the files .. i want to make sure they are clean .. not leaving some files here and there ^^
i have tested couple games now .. and able to see they indeed download the big data files to SD .. ^^ .. but i see their files everywhere .. like under data/data // system/app , mnt/sdcard/ and etc ..
thanks ~~
Hi there. Maybe someone can help me. I searched already and it seems that no one other have this problem. i only found solutions with rooting.
in latest update samsung brought the app2sd funktion (Build JDQ39J9505XXUBMEA).
It works fine, i can move parts of my apps to my SD card. Now there are 8GB on external SD. (apps roundabout 6GB)
But now the problem - the apps still stay in the internal storage, too ... in full size. so the size for apps is still at 6GB. move back and try again don't help. even when i move a 1,9GB game from SD to internal, the internal gets 100mb fuller. maybe there is a failure in read out the storages....
i hope some other people have the same problem, i don't want to reset my phone or try anything in this way and maybe its a general problem, then i hope i can wait for a new update.
so, anyone here with a similar problem?
thanks

Hi,
The latest firmwares will let you move the apps to the sd card, but they will not move the data.
This does not help at all.
The only way to do this is to use FOLDERMOUNT
You must be rooted for this.
hey guys looking for a bit of assistance,
first off i have an i9505 running omega v21.1
