Got my SGS some days ago and I ' m now
thinking of rooting, flashing and applying lag fix .
I just have some basic questions related that is
hard to get a definite answare of because of all
the posts.
Here ' s how am thinking of doing it . Comment
if this is the wrong way to proceed:
1 . Root my phone using : [REF ] Howto root your
SGS I 9000 the easy way (keep all your data ) ( all
firmwares)
2 . Flashing phone with JM2 or JM5 . (Any
recommendations of which one to choose ?)
Getting the firmware from samsung-
firmware . webs
3 . Applying a lag fix . I don ' t know which one to
choose . Open to suggestions .
Correct me if am wrong , but with the lag fix of
partitioning the SD card into ext 3 /4 and fat 32,
is the ext 3 /4 for applications and the fat 32 for
storing pic, film and music ?
If applying this lag fix , will the applications
downloaded from the market install
automatically in the ext 3 /4 partition or ?
I have a 16 gb SD card. I also need the phone
to be able to communicate with mac. With that
I mean the posibility to set the phone in USB
debuging mode and transfer multimedia files to
my SD card.

IMHO the correct order should be:
1.Flash
2.Root
3.Lagfix
because when you flash with Odin, you wipe your phone.

This is an Asian firmware. I live in Norway and need one that is correct for my region.
If applying JM5, can I use the same LaxFix?

Thanks for fast replay.
After applying Laxfixes that moves the location of the application data and other folders, do I have to do something when installing apps from the market? Or can I use the phone the way I use it out of box?
One last question: Is it only custom rooms that apply new themes or is there a way to only apply new themes whitout doing anything to the room? No need for a guide. Only what option I have.
Thanks for solid help!!

You can install wallpapers and widgets to change how your home screens look.
If you want to change the whole theme there are a few out there that you can use (like LauncherPro) and you only need to install Home Switcher to use them. They are all found on android market.
Flashing themed custom roms also does the trick and comes with a few extras like lagfixes. I have not tried because I see no need fot it atm.
You can also try the mods described at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752200&page=3. If you feel creative you can use your own images instead of the ones supplied
Can i recommend jm5 and samset 1.9d mod? Then install ext4 mod. Use paragon wibdows app to format ext4 using a memory card reader. Works great for me

How is your benchmark score? But is this samset a custom room with different theme? What is the ext4 mod? A lagfix? Is it possible to apply ext4 without samset?
Or do you realitet recommend the samset room?
Is it possible to update the phone with samsungs official froyo update when it arrives when the phone have been flashed?

i tried the apps2sd on my galaxy 3 eclair but it doesnt work, it says to partition it and select my desired partion size, my phone restarts but doesnt do anything.
is it ok to upgrade my phone to that version? doesnt it do anything dangerous like bricking it? any disadvantage in upgrading to dat version??
can you tell me how to upgrade it to froyo 2.2???????
well, you could always go to the development section and got to the stickied thread that says READ FIRST and find your info there.

Upgrade your phone to 2.2. Apps2SD does not work on 2.1. Read both http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858583 and if you happy, then read the full guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778880
This shows step by step method, and is aimed at beginners. Also, remember App2SD can only be used if your phone is rooted
yeah!!! successfully upgraded my phone to 2.2!!!!!!! now i tried running the apps2sd but still doesnt work... my phone is rooted. apps2sd doesnt work... whenever i run it it tells me to create a partion and it shows the partition meter on how much size will i allocate on the partition. i set it then pressed OK then it tells me to reboot..then nothing happens as soon as the phone started again.
[Q]What's the different between (512Mb & 1Gb) data file running Android from sdCard??
Good day everybody,
I just want to know [Q]What's the different between (512Mb & 1Gb) data file running Android from sdCard??
because I'm having problems with running the MDJ FroYo HD v.4.6 in 512 Mbyte HTC HD2 version, such as;
- freezing
- slow movement while browsing the menu
- can't access the Market where it always saying that the username or password is wrong
while the same Android ROM is running smoothly on the T-Mobile HD2 version without any single problem and very fast.
both phones, the T-Mobile HD2 version and the HTC HD2 512Mbyte version are updated to the latest Radio (2.15.50.14) and Microsoft Windows 6.5 ROM (3.14.531.1)
any hints??
512Mb & 1Gb data files are simply the amount of space u'll be taking off d sd card for android apps & data installations...So d bigger,d more space you'll have for your android and less space on your sd card for things like music, ebooks, images etc...
IMHO....1GB & above is highly recommended so u don't have low memory issues after tossing android on your sd card..This is cuz u might end up needing more apps & some apps lyk high-end games do tk up a lot of space.
As for speed differences between the two Leos...Well d TMobile Hd2's more buffed up and so..........U might want 2 try lighter android builds cuz d HD versions are some what heavier....Also your choice of Memory card class & capacity also helps...i'd recommend an 8GB Class (4)...
The Data.img isnt your problem anyway your problem is that you are trying to use a very old and outdated rom that was never very good to begin with

hi
what kernel do you use?
try the hastarin 8.6 kernel. i used to have similar problems (i mean laggy phone) and the kernel kind of sorted it out (i use the same android build as you do). maybe it'll help you (i don't know if it's gonna help market problem but i think 'freezing' might be cured)

Thanks for the reply, so does it mean that I will have only a 1 GB in the sdCard dedicated for Android and all applications from the market???
I mean if I move the apps & games I downloaded from market to the sdCard using the Manage Applications under setting menu, will it make any diffrence???
Thanks

Aha, here we go somebody with the same problem
Yes it might be the kernal, the kernal in the phone shows these lines:
2.6.32.15.s8.0-gf06973d-dirty
[email protected]#10
Mon Dec 13 17:53:37 KART 2010
And I do remember that when I un-rar the ROM file, there was a kernal folder but I didn't use it because I don't know how!!!
Whould you please upload me the kernal you're using or give me the link you download it from??
Would some tell me how to install the new kernal ???
Regarding the Market issue, just don't worry about it " I was entering the wrong pass " Many thanks

Swap the SD cards between the phones and try again.
If it follows the SD Card (and you're sure the setup is EXACTLY the same) it's your SD
It could be a bad SD or you may just have to delete/recreate the partition and format it.
Your phone are also different. I'm not sure it's just the mem size, some chip could be differents, drivers...

Yes u'll have only 1GB dedicated to android and all apps...By this i mean it'll show up as available "phone" memory (just think of it as a virtual drive but in reality it takes physical space 4rom ur sd card)...I.e..using an 8GB mem card? Phone storage will read 1024MB while SD storage will read abt 6.xxGB...
Yes, if u move apps 2 sd it'll mk a difference but i think 1Gb is enuf for apps and u don't really need 2 move apps 2 "sd" storage as it might cuz slight speed issues since u r running android from d "same" mem card.

here it is. try the 8.6 (that's the one i'm using).
to install it on your phone:
unpack it
find the zImage file
copy it into android folder
find the root folder from the kernel zip
place the folder onto android
reboot
delete the root folder you pasted
(if i messed up something please, someone, correct me)
I have flashed Kyrillos' ROM 3.0 and did the app2sd and swap.
But latter I found it more lag than that without app2sd and swap.
I want to disable it, hope someone can tell me how to do it.
first flash the phone with any rom maybe original or froyo or kyrillos with the memory card removed
next connect ur mem card to pc with use of a card reader (DO NOT CONNECT IT WITH UR PHONE OR OTHER DEVICES!!!!!! USE ONLY A CARD READER!!)
download and run mini tool partition wizard(free software) u will find 3 partitions after ur local computer hard drives
delete all three partitions so that the result would be a single unformatted/unallocated partition select accept and wait for it to complete
(DO NOT CONVERT THE PARTITION TO ANY OTHER FORMAT, IT SHOULD BE UNFORMATTED "SINGLE!" PART)
insert the card into ur flashed phone (ignore any message that ur card is damaged) and goto settings>memory card and format it
after formatting once using the phone u can format it using the pc anytime just not after creating or removing any partitions!!!
n-joy!!!

I have not done the process you said above cause I don't have a card reader right now. But I noticed that my phone shows RAM is 246 even without sd card.(I used to set 50M to swap)
Will the RAM return back to nomal after I do all these things? Or I still have to do something with my phone but not the sd card?
yes it will return back to normal
I've got a card reader and did as you said, but the RAM still show 246M
Sorry for this post, the RAM should be 246.
Maybe I did some thing wrong with the swap so it did not show the extra space after swap.
This made me think the original RAM was less.
Go for Indroid v3.0 . it is more stable !
but the forum shows numerous bugs a few days ago
where all the bugs cleared????
personally i believe indroid was released without thorough testing due to release of both Kyrillos v3.0 and lestatious v2.0 roms
in kyrillos, almost all bugs has been cleared, but i still have a concern...
i flashed my phone, and a friend flashed his.. at the same time (we were talking over teamspeak at the moment ) and his phone behaves weird... like system hangs and stuff all the time... and my phone, it's ok...
i'm thinking to flash lestatious and give it a try.

i wasn't talking abt kyrillos i was mentioning indroid which was released a few days after kyrillos v3.0 and lestatious v2.0
if u come across any bugs in kyrillos or lestatious roms (very minimum in both cases) then go through their respective forums the bug and it's fix will already be mentioned
Hello,
I have got a HTC HD2 and i have used htchd2android com website to make it an Android device.
The phone works great, only the space is very minimum, there are like 5 apps on it and now it don't even want to update facebook anymore (too low space)
I have used link2sd to place all the apps on the sd card but that isn't the solution for the problem.
i came across this page enfeuman com /2011/06/01/how-to-fix-abnormal-internal-storage-space-on-htc-hd2/ But will it help when i just install the new recovery partition or do i need to do more or purhaps do i need to install everythinh again?
Hope someone can give me an good explenation about how to fix it.
What partition size did you originally flash? If you flashed the correct partition size in the first place, then that guide won't help.
I have used 250 mb version just like that guide says on htchd2android com

Just follow guides on XDA. I've read a couple of guides from other websites before and almost all of them have flaws. Jayceooi's website is good though.
In that case, you're wasting 80MB of storage. Backup your ROM in CWM, flash a 170MB partition then restore your ROM. You may also want to back up in Titanium.
Try native SD Rom...fast like nand and no problem for space....or if using nand...reflash your partition and use app2sd script

I have many problems with my two month old defy plus..some problems are really strange and i cant really understand if its a problem with the phone or the sd card...
i am gonna explain all of them.
1. SD card problem..the sd card causes a lot of problem ..the most affected application is swiftkey..after days of working correctly..suddenly a message pops out unable to load language packs..and the keyboard becomes unusable.on unmounting and mounting the sd card..the problem sumtyms goes..sometimes not.
2.applications go missing on their own.
3. transferring files via bluetooth is very very hard...only zip files can be transferred..and sometimes when the transfer fails..the phone has to be rebooted to start transferring again..or sd card has to unmounted and remounted
4.on switching on the phone error messages comes such as " unparseable date"..
5n deleting any folder from the mem card via file explorer..the swiftkey keyboard failes showing messages like unable to load languagepacks or failed to store dyanamic language
6 droid sail frequently fails to move apps to sd card..although my phone is rooted..error messages such as no root no usb debugging is shown..although both of them are on
7:sms back up software not working..it shows write access denied..
8 titanium pro cant be installed.it shows that memory is not available although i have 1 gb of free internal memory
and my last question..will CM9 solve these problems??????
please reply
Please inform your ROM, it may help us identify your problem.
But seems to me that your SD Card is corrupted, try inserting it on a computer and formatting it (backup your stuff first).

You could check sdcard for errors in Windows (right click on sdcard drive letter & select check for errors) . Windows will correct it automatically. This way u won't loose any data on your sdcard. Don't forget to unplug it safely in windows afterwards, otherwise it may become corrupted again.

yes i am having a lot of problems with the stock firmware...i have a question from you..can u transfer apk files directly from your laptop to your mobile via bluetooth or do you have to zip it first???in my mobile only zip files can be send via bluetooth..nothing else is accepted.
Did you find a fix about sd card problem? I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1596997 but i don't know if the fix works with GB kernels. I have a 2.3.4 stock rom, and i can't write on my sdcard, i can only read it.
Do you have a high class card?
are you using a 32 gb card if yes downgrade to a lower capacity,
or you can try a class 10 card if u r using a class 4 card
or u can use ur large capacity card latter on if u upgrade ur defy plus, say after ur warranty is complete
i am not suggesting trying a new rom because ur defy is just 2 months old and gingerbread is not outdated al the apps come for it
