Searched with no joy. How do I zoom in k-9 email? Right now it is pretty small on all screens.
Thanks,
kev
I used K-9 for a long time on my Droid phone and I don't remember there being a zoom feature. I do seem to recall that you could change the text size in settings though.
BTW, I stopped using it in favor of the native Gmail app when I found out that you could set it up on the Google Gmail site to poll your pop3 accounts. When it finds a new email, it is instantly pushed to the gmail app on your phone/NC. On my phone I found it saved battery power as the only time the email app was active was when an email was actually sent to it. This as opposed to having K-9 poll the pop3 accounts on a predetermined time frequency. I've been doing this for about 4-5 months now and love it.
Anyway, good luck your issue!!

So, can you zoom in the g-mail client?
Lost focus of your question!!
I just checked and I found no zoom. It does let you reset text size though.

Thank you! Now have that working in message view, but in "in box" for instance, the message subjects are small. It would be nice to get this bigger too.
Thanks for the zoom tip, as I can at least read the message easily & it reflows the text well!! BTW I set all text to large where I had a choice.
I appreciate your help, as every app that I get working the way I like makes me love the NC that much more.
Thanks,
kev
Even with subject set to largest it's too small? I haven't tried k9 on my galaxy tab yet because the default samsung email app is soo awesome. Looks like outlook in landscape. I'll try install and see if it's an issue on my tab.

Hi!
Maybe a stupid question... Also with that enabled pinch to zoom on my HTC Desire does not work. But sometimes zoom buttons appear on the bottom of the screen. But I have no idea where I have to tap or what I have to do to make them appear when I want to zoom
Anybody can tell me?
Thanks and best wishes from Germany,
Müsli
K9 looks fine here.... When you say zoom are you saying that the fonts etc are too small? I haven't noticed any issues here, and I'm fairly sensitive to fonts being too small, like... Pulse...
You guys can use notion inks email app, it is also based on k-9 framework and made for tablet size.
Thanks, but there should be a working text zooming feature in K-9, too, as you can enable it in the preferences. But also enabled pinch to zoom doesn't work for me and I just don't know what to do to make the zoom buttons appear that I activate sometimes occasionally...
Just switched to CM7 and suddenly pinch to zoom in K-9 works...

Does anyone else find it a little strange that on a google phone that the standard email app allows you to pinch and zoom in emails, but the gmail app (or the mobile site for that matter) don't?! If I get an email with a large embedded image there seems to be no way to do this.
On a separate note, why has the third swype page with the cursor arrows gone? That was really useful when you're trying to navigate through text?

I agree they never allow gmail application to zoom i don't understand why !
the built in email app is just a stripped down version of k9mail which has more features.. recommend you try it.
May I add that it's frustrating that you cannot copy/paste text from the Gmail app?
It seems to me that some of the stock Google applications like the browser and gmail are left very vanilla - maybe, in the belief that 3rd party apps will fill the gap - maybe, that will be some of what they will be working on for Gingerbread (since they are claiming it will have a focus on user experience).

Just quick question
Does the K9 Mail app allow for multiple Signatures for the different emails.
Currently the Samsung Email only allows one signature for all accounts which is a step back from my Blackberry.
This multiple-app thing is exactly why the iPhone does so well...
It's not a positive when you've got two programs that do the same thing out of the box.
I realize Google doesn't have much control over this, and even if they improved their stuff that Samsung/ATT/etc would probably put all their crap on it regardless. I'm just saying there's an advantage to the iPhone found here.
I love it, so far it has made the whole tab smoother. The task manager is sweet as well as the new Widgets. I really like that it made my transitions from screen to screen smooth. Overall I think this update is awesome. AND we get a movies section under the market now.

I would have to agree. The TouchWiz on the phones was atrocious, and I was really worried when I heard about it coming to the tablet. After installing the update, I am very impressed. I like the new Widgets, the Email app while doesn't look as nice, runs very well and supports newer ActiveSync which helps me atm. The Screenshot button is amazing, and overall it just runs really really well.
I am impressed Samsung.
Sadly they haven't fixed email when connected to Exchange Server. When replying to an email it gets stuck in the outbox.
I have never had that problem, and just replied to an email on my exchange server. It might be the exchange server you are connecting to is misconfigured.
Ok, I found an issue, the size of the Text on their new custom widgets is huge, with no way to resize....
Definitely smoother, typing less laggy, browser faster. I like it

Huh, can even change the system fonts via Settings / Screen / Screen Display / Font Style with some options and a way to get more online in the market. I know it's no big deal but that kinda tweaking without hacking is a nice add.
I am liking the TW update so far, more so now that my corp VPN access should be good to go once IT approves access from tabs. The Cisco Anyconnect has all it needs now.
Although I lost the unlocked boot I am v e r y happy with the update. Movies are there too. Some people complained there were no movies. Still I prefer Netflix. I am outside of US now and using vpn. Media hub works OK, but music hub insists that it will not work here??
I must be missing something. I got the update and noticed the same amount of hitching while swiping through home screens. I did a factory default reset and its still the same, weird. Everyone is talking about it being smooth now but I'm not seeing it, and I don't want to go back to Wallpaper Wizardrii and disable wallpaper scrolling to fix it again. What am I missing? I even took most of the widgets off the home screens and its still hitching quite a noticeable amount.

Does "show pictures" actually work now with exchange? Is the issue fixed with exchange where if you type a word with an apostrophe and send the email the recipient sees garbled html code instead of the work you typed?

Yup, that's what it's looking for in the Market.
As far as I can tell they did not add certificate support for exchange. Makes the tab kind of useless in the corporate world. We dont allow anyone to get our coporate email on their mobile devices with out a certificate and remote wipe capabilities.
functionally I think the update is nice seems smoother. The font size increase on widgets is a little annoying especially on the email widget. the fonts seems large and blockish.
so far I would rate it an 85 out of 100.
Ya lag is for browser gone..on facebook and xda, places it used to be troublesome
but its still there on google plus desktop, oh well, must be a extensive site

Does anyone know of a way to change the system font size back to the standard size? (a flashable zip would be ideal, but if you know of a rom that allows this that would be ok too) Not liking the oversized fonts...thanks

I still don't get where people are coming with this. I work in a corporate company with high security, and exchange with certificates and remote wipe.
All i did was setup a Corporate Account, there even checkboxes for accepting certificates. And when you set it up it even sets up remote wiping, a pin, everything.
Even applies a No Internet Sharing setup.
Also for those that asked earlier, the bug with replying to exchange emails with apostraphes has been Fixed. I just tried it out.
The new Samsung modified email thing doesn't have a "Show Picture" options, it just straight loads the picture in the message. But pictures in messages do work.

Sorry I should have been more specific. We require client certificates to be installed on mobile devices for users to have access to corporate email.
Stock android email doesnt support this as far as I can tell before or after touchwiz. Only app I have found that supports this is touchdown. I have not tried enhanced mail since they dont have a trial and secureEAS looks like it doesn't work on honeycomb.

Oh, ok, that makes more sense. The only thing I can think of is allowing them to only use it through VPN?
Hey guys,
Just got my SGS2 last week and have spent the last for days exploring and familiarizing myself with it.
I must say i am so far impressed and disappointed... i previously had a HTC Desire and there are a few things the Desire could do that the SGS2 cannot.
I figured we might as well start listing some things that the SGS2 cannot do, but you feel it should be able to do (with possible solutions if any).
so ill get it started...
1. Default Email Client - should be able to set update frequency by time of day.
The HTC mail app on my Desire had a setting where i could set the send/receive frequency depending on the time of day. For instance... between 8.00AM and 8.00PM i could have it update hourly, and between 8.00PM and 8.00AM it would update every 4 hours. The email setup is use is POP3 with Hotmail.
Solution: Setup hotmail (and other webmail providers?) as an exchange account. This will allow you greater control over your email client and its settings (include advanced update scheduling, folders, max email size, etc. I used this guide here.
2. Default Email Client - Be able to forward emails with attachments and the email trail. Seems to be a bug with the stock email app that makes this impossible.
Tested with the default email client on the SGS2 (hotmail with POP3), the attachments will not forward completely, only a portion of the attached file will forward and it will be corrupt when received, cannot open on receiving end. Also tested setting up hotmail as an exchange account, and the app will hang on the "fetching attachment" screen. A second attempt forwarding attachments with an exchange account was successful.
Solution: Setup email as an exchange account (see above) or use 3rd party app - Suggestions on which apps?
3. TouchWiz - Show the default number of 8 apps (rather than 6) in the recent apps list (accessible by long-pressing the Home key)
Solution: Root and install the mod or flash the appropriate ROM that has this feature. CyanogenMod is one.
4. Default Web Browser - Hide the notification bar in the Browser app.
Solution: 3rd party app - Dolphin Browser HD can do this in its 'fullscreen' mode - any suggestions on other apps?
5. Default Web Browser - Have real text reflow on any zoom level in the Browser app. (Like HTCs)
Solution: 3rd party app - Opera Mobile, Boat Browser and Boat Browser Mini have the ability to reflow on a variety of zoom levels by using the onscreen zoom buttons.
6. CRT screen-off animation.
Solution: Root and install the mod or flash the appropriate ROM that has this feature.
7. System/Power management - Better power management when wifi is 24/7 enabled with IM applications, The S1 could last for a close to 1.5 days with that setup the S2 barely lasts 20hrs due to the AOS bug... Iphone3GS/4 can last as high as 3days.
8. System/Network Capabilities - No Near Field Communication (NFC)?
Solution: The SGS2 supports NFC depending on which version of the phone you have. NFC is enabled on some versions, and not on others. Source Source Source
9. System/Notification Settings - There are no repeat audible notifications for missed called and messages.
Solution: 3rd party app - Vibration Notifier, GO SMS Pro
10. System/Notification Settings - Privacy settings in the notification bar. Why can't I turn off the displaying of message content in the notification bar?
Solution: Use Go SMS Pro. You can set that to just say "New Message", instead of showing the content. Go SMS Pro > Settings > Notification Settings > Default Notification Settings > Notification Bar Privacy Mode.
11. System/Connectivity - bluetooth support (proper) so we can use bluetooth controllers like the ps3 and wii one.
Solution: Root and install the mod or flash the appropriate ROM that has this feature.
12. System/Connectivity - Reverse Tether.
Some HTCs ( Desire HD, Sensation) and other devices have reverse tether via USB - feature seems to be missing on SGS2.
13. Application Range - Ability to install some stock Android Apps.
14. System/Notification Settings/TouchWiz - Ability to dismiss notifications individually.
CyanogenMod had this ability by simply swiping them horizontally.
Solution: Root and install the mod or flash the appropriate ROM that has this feature.
15. Advanced IPSEC VPNs - For whatever reason, Samsung did not include this functionality with their 2.3.x FW.
As a result, VPN compatibility is very limited without hacking.
16. Contacts App - Display cropped version of profile picture for contacts when assigned through contact link/sync.
Not sure how to describe this one... HTCs Contacts App would crop a contact photo to suit its app's square frame (maintaining photo's proportions/aspect ratio). Samsung's contacts app will squash the photo to suit the square frame (distorting photo's proportions). Go Contacts will shrink a contact photo to suit the square frame (maintaining photo's proportions/aspect ratio). I would like the Samsung and Go Contacts apps to display their contact photos like the HTCs do. I have attached an image to try and explain my issue.
List is a work in progress - i will continue to build the list and add to it any suggestions anyone has. Also, i will not be able to test all the solutions i post, and many of the comments/solutions will be simply copied and pasted from your posts. So please feel free to test and make any corrections to the problem/solution list.
Hopefully this will help any users with their transitions from their old devices to the SGS2.
I welcome all input, thanks guys.

You can set the update frequency time for the Email app. You just need to go to Settings -> Accounts -> "Exchange" or "Pop3" account -> Account Settings.
Granted that I am using Exchange so I am not too sure if that works for Pop but I think if the setting is there, it should also work for Pop3 account.
I am on KG5 so I am not sure if that is a new feature or not as I can't remember with the older version. I was using Moxier Mail previously which allows you to do that as well.

I have forwarded emails with attachments pleanty of times on the stock email app (note, not the GMail app).
Text reflow can be enabled in the stock browser.
I agree with the stock rom having the CRT animation.
So far the only 'fault' I can find is I wish the speaker was placed somewhere better, where it isn't so easy to cover.

Open up account settings in the email app and go to Sync schedule, there you can set the peak and off-peak schedule at the top, i use this feature and it works great
Hi
I am not too sure but I am able to set peak and off-peak schedule. So my current sync is push during peak hour and 15 minutes sync during off peak. You can also set the time which is peak and off peak.
If you need more fine grain control over it, I didn't know HTC can do it. I got a htc sensation at home maybe I can try with that.

Complete BS. If you don't know what proper reflow means please don't give these kinds of advice. The stock browser does NOT reflow. It only has a two-step zoom level, that is it.
There is no way to zoom to a specific value you want after which the text will reflow. Only (some) user-installable browsers do this the way it is supposed to work.

Use safari on the iphone/ipad, thats reflow.. theres a difference between that and auto fit.
NFS & a slightly higher res screen is something i wish it had, but it does not matter too much.

Er.. I think you should check a little before you rant at someone. You're both wrong (and right).
Yes, you can only double tap to zoom in and out for text reflow to work. However, there are 3 different levels of zoom, which can get selected via the settings.
Whilst this is not as useful as text reflow with pinch-to-zoom, it is still a lot more effective than you suggest.

And the solution - use Go SMS Pro. You can set that to just say "New Message", instead of showing the content.
What do use on your Note and why?
I've always used the Gmail app..
Yesterday I decided to try the stock one (only for my gmail account) and it's actualy pretty nice.
It goes very well with the Note's big screen (split view on landscape)
And nice integration with the S pen. For example:
* Multi select emails with the pen (like on gallery)
* Email's previews while hovering
* When attaching a file, hovering over the "attachment pin" shows a floating thumbnails of the last 4 photos you've taken
* You can write over emails and have a written based signature
So, what do you say??
Btw, a question for those who use the stock:
What's more battery friendly? Push or set it to refresh every hour?
I have only 1 gmail account and it is not necessary for me to receive emails immediately.

Tbh I installed K9 Mail aas soon as I got my Note 4, I've never even tried using stock email client.
After reading those features I might actually give it a go.
I primarily use K9 because for me it doesn't seem to drain the battery. Emails come through nice and quickly without causing the phone to have a high count of wakelocks.

Btw, a question for those who use the stock:
What's more battery friendly? Push or set it to refresh every hour?
I have only 1 gmail account and it is not necessary for me to receive emails immediately.

The one big BIG plus with gmail app is that it is way faster in fetching mails and loading the contents, especially when you are travelling and have a weak/unstable signal.
I switched from stock to gmail due to this simple reason and left behind all the stock goodies.
@maksharma231, Yeah I agree the stock can be slighly slower, but nothing significant.
Probably due to the network issue you raised..

Yup, if you are in a perfect setting i.e. at home/office stock might be your best bet. But if you wanna access mails on the fly, while travelling, I prefer gmail. Its more reliable.
Its a battle of speed vs features. For me speed wins. For many, features win.
Both the apps are good
PS: If your area has underground subs/trains etc gmail app will save you a lot of frustration
Stock email is way way better man. Tho Gmail is nice too, it's better for us to use the stock one (SPen functionaity & others u mentioned). For battery life, have it pushed to u every few hrs or so. If u have outlook, or yahoo mail, change the non important accounts to Manual refresh.
For me, i used GMail for a while, then went back to stock. My important email's i make Priority and when i receive em, i have S-Voice announce the Email header/ Title to me automatically over speakerphone. Pretty cool

Yeah, I'm still with the stock one..
So you're saying that having it synced once an hour or so is better for battery than regular push?
It's seemed logical to me to, but then I read somewhere that sometimes, causing the device to wake up especially for checking email drains more battery than regular push....
So I'm pretty confused about it....
I replaced gmail with aquamail.. I found battery was better. Also gmail can't send pre made contact groups
I use aquamail with accounts settings for imap push. Instant email delivery and not battery hungry.
+1 for aquamail.
worth its cost
Has the native email app changed since the S7? Anyone know if it has true threaded messaging?
I hope so. I have tried aquamail and nine email and they both suck compared to stock.
Really? I LOVE nine. Find it amazing but always happy to use stock when it makes sense. What don't you like

I wasnt bashing it. It graphically beautiful. I just prefer the options, menus, and folder structure of stock. Nine was great on battery consumption compared to stock.
Nine has been my choice of app for about 2 years now. It's what got me off of HTC devices (since I very much liked the HTC stock mail app).
+1 for Nine. Been using it for nearly 3 years and it has been flawless.

The stock apps (including e-mail) are the only ones fully integrated with Gear. They're also better integrated with the rest of Samsung's ecosystem (Scrapbook, S Note, Bixby). The S7 nougat e-mail client was a modernized version of the Note7's. I'm assuming since it was just updated it'll carry over and get a new "lines" icon in keeping with the rest of the S8's updated aesthetics.
I'm coming from the native iPhone email app and think it's rubbish. Is the native Samsung one any good? If not what would you all suggest? I can't remember what app I used to use on my htc.

I personally like it. It's clean and easy to navigate. I use it with Exchange and its a great e-mail client. If you're looking for something more integrated check out Samsung Focus.
I have 3 email accounts. Can it handle them and are they easily identified?

Does it have true threaded messaging in and out?
Does Samsung Focus offer polling, not pushing, and true threaded messaging?

What is missing from the none native email app and gear? I currently use S2 with V20 and the email works great.

There is an actual e-mail app on the Gear that syncs with the native phone e-mail app. So you can read messages, mark them read, mark them unread, and reply to them. The Gear app lets you scroll through your entire inbox and has an unread message counter. If you delete an e-mail on your Gear it deletes it on the phone and vice versa. The mail app on the Gear is literally an extension of the full-fledged app on your phone. The Samsung Gear and phone messaging apps have the same level of integration.
Side question anyone know how to move the galaxy native email data to the sd card? I have to carry a pile of email in my pocket. I used to use touchdown so I could relocate the data, but I've switched to hte native app. It used to stink on older devices, but it was fine on the 7 and the integration with other apps is so much more convenient.
I also prefer the stock app. I do have an issue with it, I can't seem to get "push" settings. I have an icloud email address and had push on my iPhone. Is there anyway to get push on this app? Will forwarding to him gmail and using that work?

In the default email app settings there is a menu item called "view" under which you have 2 options "standard" and "conversation". The conversation option attempts a threaded view although I am not able to comment on how well the implementation is as I don't use threaded view.
does anyone know why emails from gmail on the native email app (s8+) do not stay deleted? They keep popping up, when marking as read, it does do that fine. (Settings: Gmail Auto, as items are received)
Messages not downloading completely
I just got a Galaxy S8+, and I can't figure out how to get the email app to load the rest of a message. There is one particular sender that I get daily messages from, and for some reason their messages never load completely. On my old S5, I just swiped up, and the app loaded the rest of the message. In the new app, that has no effect.
Any suggestions?

Try this. Not sure if it is the answer to your issue but give it a go.
Open the email app>menu>click the gear icon>click your email account>scroll down until you see the option "limit retrieval size">select "no limit.
