I have Flashed my phone more times than calls made...
The good thing: You'd make a Good ALPHA tester....
The bad thing: Samsung will still not make you the first tester for Froyo
I have flashed more times than I get calls made AND received!
Got a good chuckle from this thread. Not gonna lie.

Just kidding. ;-) so what's you favorite rom for the Vibrant, for; least bugs, most speed, no lag, and basic cool factor?

It seems like I flash or restore a new rom once or twice a week now. I thought I'd be able to drive Eugene's froyo rom for a while without flashing, but then he even came out with an update for it the next day with promises of more tweaks to come. Plus I really want to try that Bionix Fusion.

My favorite ROMs are the Bionix ones. They are fast and very zippy.
I'm just glad there are not photos in here of the mental image the topic brought to mind.

You're on a mobile phone developer forum, what other mental images could you possibly come up with?
Every time you flash a new rom, its like opening up a new present.
... of course you get the occasional coals...

You experts seem to be the ones to ask. I want to do this. Bionix Fusion ROM. Just a few questions for clarity.
What backups should I do? I've done a clockwork backup, should I also do a titanium? Once I flash would I use titanium to restore things?
What am I going to lose? I thought I read somewhere that SIMS will disappear. If so, how do I deal with this?
Will my carrier unlock be undone? If it is, can I use the same unlock code I used when I unlocked the last time?
Any other gotchas I need to be aware of?

Always do a back up with clockwork. This back up will put you back exactly where you were with apps and all.
When u flash a rom like this it will wipe all apps and settings, texts and calls and contacts. I use astro to back up the apps I want to keep. Settings are always better if u do them ur self. In my opinion new settings should be used for every rom flash. Contacts are an easy fix if you sync with Google. If not, there's a "back up contacts" option in the stock contacts app.
It does wipe Sims. You can use astro or myfiles to find the Sims data and apk and copy paste it to ur external sdcard and replace when u flash a new rom. I could be wrong here tho and u should do some research on the Sims subject.
Carrier unlock I have no idea about.
That's about it. Flashing roms have become clockwork(lol) to me.

No it does not lock the phone, and the codes are always the same for the device, but you still can use the same system to get them codes.
Do we need to start a support group? RFA...Rom Flashers Anonymous.
Hi my name is Ed and I am a rom flasher. I have had the Vibrant for about a month, which happens to be my first smartphone, and I have flashed just about everything in the development section. I am hopelessly hooked. If they keep making them...well, I'll keep flashing them.
Flash on my friends.
I'm having post dramatic flash withdrawals. I find myself waking in the middle of the night phone in hand in recovery mode. I've tried smoking eating drinking upgrading my old g1 but nothing helps.
I am an addict and if flashing is wrong then I don't wanna be right.

Just jumped ships from sprint and got my facinate. Today rooted with one click and tried installing clock work. Thmanage rom manager. All seems well then suddenly my phone freezes for ten minutes I have to do a battery pull. Phone wont boot in anyway or form now. No lights or signs of life other than if I hold the power button as long as its pressed. A device labeled SEC S5PC110 Test B/D appears in device manager. And that'd all it will do. Thinking about exchanging it tomorrow afternoon. Just letting the community know what happened to me any thoughts as how or what happened might be able to help future mishaps
I'd try doing an odin flash. Just search the forums for the step by step. If u can get the phone into flash mode.
Yeah dude, definitely try Odin. Did you try flashing cwm from within ROM manager? I ask because that doesn't work for our phones yet, and it wouldn't surprise me if that could cause problems. I would use Odin to flash it back to stock, and then use the very thorough guide on here on how to get cwm going.

Hard for him to do a backup when he got bricked installing CWM LOL
Possibly bootlocked.
Newer Fascinates seem to be locked. Don't know if there is any way to tell which you've got without attempting a modification of the system....which would of course, result in the above nastiness....
I would think that if newer fascinates were boot locked, so would mesmerizes and I first flashed the stock files for Verizon on my phone then went to elements zinc (which is awesome BTW) installed voodoo 1200 kernel and everything is working great for me. Could just be that he got a bunk phone or something

Couldn't get to the flash mode even to use odin, went back today and bestbuy swapped it out for me thinking I just got a bad phone, I could also shake the thing and hear raddling with the usb door shut to so im not really surprised. This is why manufacturing companies are locking down phones now. That phone wasn't bricked it could have easily been fixed. OP. Please read and try to learn what u r doing. As well try to have a semi understanding of how u can fix ur phone if u mess it up. I would bet that your phone could have been up and running in 15 minutes.

I was thinking about updating to Froyo via Kies using this guide I found that XDA will not let me post until I hit eight posts...
I am currently using one of jt's DI01 ROMs and I take it I will need to do a Nandroid so I can perform the upgrade on a stock phone. My question though is can I just backup my Apps with Titanium Backup Pro and then restore each app individually once the Froyo update is on the phone? I don't want to lose all the information associated with the programs like favorites, game saves, contacts, etc.. I know I have restored programs using Titanium before, but it was before they had any of my own personal data added to them, that is what is important to me!
Thank you for your help.
If you are on a vzw fascinate that would be a very bad idea.

You know what I love about this place? (And this isn't even a little sarcastic, I mean it!)
That not a single person responded telling the guy to do it. Other forums they'd love to see a newbie mess up their hardware.
XDA is a great place.
if it wasn't christmas eve, then i'd be all for it. wait till april fools!
If it wasn't created for your phone, or ported to your phone, rule of thumb is not to install it. The more important it is to your phone, the higher the odds you shouldn't install it. Seeing as an os is pretty important you should really not install it.
I like to see when people get their phones borked, but here's the problem with newbies borking their phones.
They come back here for help. They post new threads hoping that someone helps them... Then all of us have to try our best to help them fix their borked phone...
So it comes down to prevention of borking phones. If we can prevent one person from borking their phone by warning them 1000 times, we should do it...
Thanks for the info, I will hold off, probably just flash the DJ05 image and reroot while waiting. Still curious about backing up with Titanium. Does that restore attached personal data for each app or just the app itself?

It has the option to do both.
Open Titanium. Hit Menu>Batch>RUN Restore all apps with data. From there you can check off the one's you do want and don't want.

Unless u have pro, you will still have to say yes to each individual app. I would highly recommend getting pro, it will run it all the way through and you don't do a thing. Also need to be rooted for both
As stated in the first post, I have Pro. Titanium back up requires root to install, but my questions have been answered. Thanks for the info everyone.

It is a ***** to get it to talk to the phone. It works maybe one out of ten tries for me. I have only messed around with it before installing it because it is such a POS and a complete embarrassment to Samsung. It should have never been released.
Kies is not even meant for the vzw fascinate.
good day.
I agree with chopper. Likely the reason it desnt work with our phones is the fact that it is in no way made for our phones, or a part of our phones software. Only the GSM models that I know of have it. And it is an option when u hook it up to your computer via usb. And we don't have that option.

Bump to let the guy who is promoting kies to update all fascinates.
This is what happens when you promote misinformation.
After having done my fair share of flashing, my phone was finally brought to it's knees.
I need someone to fix a bricked Vibrant.
And yes, I have spent the last 2 days trying everything.
So, if anyone knows a good place to get the phone fixed, let me know.
LA local preferred, but not a must.
go to Craigslist, There is always someone who is flashing custom roms for hire, Call them and I bet they may be able to assist, good luck !!!

Does it matter if i trade in a rooted phone into a Best Buy or other stores without unroot. I have no saved information in the phone and have removed sim card. If they accept it do i have to be concerned with the fact its running a rom. Help guys thanks?
I wouldn't worry about it. I traded in my og Atrix to the Att corporate store and it was running cm.

Guess I am asking from a legal point of view. Not concerned with privacy cause I emptied it out. I own the phone, its mine
You own it. So no. You have nothing to worry about.
When they get your phone I think they either recycle or refurbish it so I'm pretty sure that the content of the phone doesn't matter so long as the parts of the phone are functioning.

I wouldn't worry about it. Sprint bought my S2 that was rooted back from me. They don't care at all.
Only problem is if you were going to give ur phone to someone with it being rooted. The new owner won't be able to port his/her number to the rooted phone.

AFAIK all trade-ins are immediately sent to a refurb center and flashed with the latest stock software available to them, wiping the phone. Then packaged up as refurbs and put on the shelf. Best Buy cares least of all...lol. Unless there is a dishonest nosy tech going through phones you wouldn't even need to worry about wiping....ofc you absolutely should wipe data though.

That has absolutely nothing to do with changing service on the device.
The number will go to the device regardless of wether or not it is rooted.
Some custom ROMs do not support the programming codes necessary to get the phone working correctly, but to just generalize and say they cant use it because it is rooted is totally incorrect. A rooted device with stock firmware would work absolutely fine.
I agree that it shouldn't matter but with the few minutes it takes to flash a stock image why not just return it to stock.

Yes. Like I stated they just make sure it turns on then it is sent to have original stock flashed on it. It is easier for them to just odin a stock image than worry if it is rooted, corrupted or whatever. Also as @crawrj stated you could just quickly Odin it yourself and be done with it.

This is precisely what I just did this past weekend with my E4GT. I flashed a stock FI27 image and wiped the phone with a factory reset before taking into BB. The BB mobile rep noticed (and commented) that I had done a factory reset but other than that they just checked the phone out to insure all the buttons were operational and gave it an inspection for damage. They even removed the Zagg screen protector from it...
