How do you get this phone to install on your pc? - Fascinate General

Just got a Fascinate. Can't get the memory driver to install properly. Heck, the usb drivers wont either.
How does this work or is it busted atm? I have Win 7 32 and Vista 64. Both have the same issue. Just can't get the Fascinate to talk to either.
Thanks

Did you download the drivers from samsung? I have win 7 64-bit on two of my computers and it worked perfectly after installing the drivers from here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SCH-I500RKAVZW

Nope. That does not install successfully. Weird.

I had the same problem I had to go to my device manager while my phone was plugged in and point the computer to the folder with the drivers in it...it didn't install automatically like I thought out would...

how many times do you have to ask the same question? see your other thrad for the answer.

Sorry about the double post. I did that one on the phone and thought it did not post.
I am using the cable that came with the phone. Regardless, the Samsung software will not install on either of my PCs. Is there a known issue with antivirus? Or am I just one of the unlucky that gets a stupid issue that takes forever to figure out?

The file got corrupted somehow. ReDLed it and cleaned the Reg. before I unzipped and installed it.
Took 45! minutes to install!! Still does not work. Sees the phone as a removable storage device. When I click on it the message is please insert a memory disk in it? oooook
I turned off usb debugging on the phone but same problem.
I do see the drivers as installed on my pc. No idea wtf to do now.

Both pcs recognize it as Samsung but neither will work with it. Do I need to get my old XP desktop in the closet just for this phone? lol

Changed usb setting from mass storage to sync with media center. Works now.

Activesync: Unknown device

Hi all,
It's been a while, but I am back with HD2. I have a problem. I have win7 business on all off my computers, I instaled latest activesync, but I keep getting error connection. When installing drivers, I get the unknown device, so instalation failed.
Not even bluetooth recognition works.
Any suggestions, please?

If you are using Windows 7 Business, I would guess you mean you are using Windows Mobile Device Center, yes? In Windows Device Manager are you set up to automatically download drivers? Are you getting any errors in the Sync Center? There is a lot of information you have to supply before anyone can troubleshoot the problem you are having.
There are a lot of steps you can take, most of which you can find by doing a search of XDA. If that fails, then come back with a more detailed explanation of what you have done, and people will try to help troubleshoot for you.
Thanks for looking,
and yes I have been searching a lot for information allready before I made a new thread.
I have win7 business and yes it does download drivers automaticly.
I will try and search for manual driver setup, but would be very thankful if any of you could give me some hints.

In Device Manager you can click on Portable Devices and see if you see your HD2 there, if you do, then right click on it. You can find options to manually install drivers. If that does not work, in the Mobile Device Center you can configure how the center is supposed to connect to your HD2. Have you tried that yet? Also, make sure you are not using a USB hub for connections. You can try changing USB ports to try to reinstall drivers.
I am trying hard, this is the error I get:
P.S.: in activesync all options are on, so no problems there, but I have tried all of them.
In that case, try uninstalling the device in Device Manager, and starting over again. It does seem to be a driver problem. Another trick you can try is on the HD2, under Settings, USB to PC, try unticking Enable advanced network functionality, and then try to reinstall the drivers.
Another thing you can try is deleting the partnership in Windows Mobile Device Center and creating a new partnership.
Is there a wa I could find the driver somewhere and install it myself?

In the Leo ROM forum the thread on MTTY has some Windows 7 drivers you can download I believe, but that will take awhile.
Are you using Win7 32 or 64 bit?
win7 32 bit. I tried to download them through windows update, but I got an error as well.
So I am on a quest for drivers....

If you are familiar with computers, you can try this with Win7 drivers you download for HD2.
You did try uninstalling your device in Device Manager, and trying another USB port to install it on? It seems really odd that Win7 is not finding the right drivers for you, and that persists even after you uninstall and reinstall the device.
No luck so far, any more ideas?
Update:
I tried the same thing on another laptop, same specs, same win7 business, worked like a charm.
So must be this win7 problem I think. Any ideas what to do? I can't remove mobile device center, so I could try and reinstall it. The icons stay in my control panel.
Anybody?
I just can't imagine this is only happening to me.

Did you have any luck yet in solving the problem?
Nope my dear helper,
I found out this is windows7 problem. I still get the first error can't install device driver, because the device is not installed on the computer.
Something must be wrong, but I was getting a head, network driver installed fine, windows mobile device program runs fine, I made a clean install with register delete etc...
I just can' seem to find this to work.
i had some problem the first time i plugged my HD2 on win7 64 ultim.
nothing happened, no activesync, no nothing...
i opened sync center, nothing...
windows updates found me windows mobile device center with upgrade devices, the thing installed but all still worked bad, impossible to activesync, no driver for my HD2, and i know nothing about phones and windows, it's my first windows mobile.
so after hours of fighting, i decided to DL the app windows mobile device center on microsoft download website, then i installed the thing and oh miracle, my HD2 was detected, the app Win M D Center was asking me now with the pic of my hd2 in the prog to chose between settings as the first thing installed by windows update always froze at win mob device center splash screen...
i resume here but it took me the all afternoon to finally resolve this problem.
something went wrong with windows update install and to reinstall the all app was the easy way to fix the activesync problem.
If you did already re-download Windows Mobile Device Center and that did not work on the one recalcitrant computer, maybe you might need to update your BIOS or download the latest drivers for you motherboard. Sometimes problems can crop up if the computer does not have the most updated BIOS and motherboard drivers. How old is the computer you are using?
Well, after calling microsoft support and HTC support and doing for 36 hours nothing but trying I finally reinstalled my hole system. So new clean install of windows 7 business and it works like acharm. Where did it went wrong, I don't know, there had to be some register issue I think. Windows mobile center worked ok, the connection with the phone worked, but just not recognizing the device. Well I would of done the instalation sooner, If I knew this one is gonna be so hard to do.

Well, glad you finally solved your problem, and that this time the blame was not just placed on HTC or the Leo. Sad though that you had to go through so much to get the darn thing to work. I just installed a new operating system for my neighbor, and there is still more work to do on it. Not a fun thing to do.

[Drivers] MS Windows x86 and x64 USB Drivers for Samsung Galaxy S

Team,
For those of you having trouble finding drivers here are some links.
64bit:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
32bit:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
For Linux and Mac the Android SDK drivers should work fine.
I don't know if it is a conflict with my AV or something else, but when I use the x86 drivers linked, my phone will shut off completely when attaching with "PC Internet" option in the USB settings.

Also on a mac you do not need the sdk. You do need to be in debugging mode though.
Also, you could just go to the Captivate webpage on Samsung's site and get the Captivate drivers, not the generic Galaxy S drivers linked in the OP.
thanks was looking for these!
In Windows 7 I'm not having an easy time getting the phone to be recognized. If I click Start > Devices and Printers it shows up as Samsung_Android but even Kies won't recognize the phone so something is wrong. I also can no longer mount my external SD card and have it show up in Windows. I tried to uninstall all the drivers and reinstall but it keeps telling me there are already drivers installed...soo..... *shrugs*

I had this problem on my desktop as well. I was using a front USB port on my computer and when I plugged it into one of the back ports, it worked. I also found the USB cable that came with the phone to work better than a cable I had lying around. Try different ports and if all else fails, try a different cable.
So here's something bizarre. I've been using my PC (Win 7 64bit) for weeks now with my Captivate and no issues. Had originally had woes when I got it, but it started working. Anyway, today I plug it in and ... it doesn't recognize it. Have installed / changed NOTHING -- only M$ patches have been applied. Tried to roll back prior and get the lovely BSOD probably because I have 4 SATA Raptors RAID-0'd and M$ doesn't know how to use that, but has anyone else seen this behavior before?
And to add to this. I rebooted my phone and now it works again. Very odd but problem solved.

ive been trying for weeks and trying all three, generic Galaxy S, AT&T captivate drivers and Kies and can't get anything working in USB Mass storage mode or Kies mode...
This is on Windows 7 64bit. Driving me crazy. USB mode wont install the Mass storage drivers and Kies wont recognize
My issue is that when I connect the phone on Windows 7 32bit the phone and the internal SD card will connect but one I try to click on anything inside the phone or card the phone will immediately disconnect and then reconnect. When I try to click again it will repeat the disconnection. After that, I don't even have to click on the phone or card directories, it will disconnect then reconnect about 6 more times. Eventually it will be stable and not disconnect. This is extremely annoying. Anyone else with this issue.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. I had problems getting my epic to show on my pc as well. For me, it wasn't the dr4ivers, but the fact I had it plugged into a usb hub. Try plugging it in a main usb port on the back of your case... these are usually the ones for your keyboard/mouse.

I haven't been able to get drivers to load at all... I have given up.
I too have a 64bit Win7 machine.
I too had the same drama for days on end..
I too read that installing PDA net will get you up and running
so..
I too am suggesting the following:
get PDA net and when it installs, select "samsung" and enjoy being able to plug your phone into your computer
I hope this helps
When booting windows hold F8 key and choose "Disable driver signature",now boot into windows and intall drivers it should work.
If not intall PdaNet tether on ur epic download drivers to ur phone for ur pc(it promts u) install them and ur good to go,dont forget to disable driver signiture and if u on win64 bit than u gotta disable it each time u boot into windows.

Hello,im having updating problems..!

<PLEASE READ WELL>
So,i have a galaxy s GT-i9000T and it seems there is no way of updating it! i can only put it on download mode trough ADB(dont know if that has to do with anything, just pointing it out since a lot of people cant use 3 button combo) and ive installed samsung drivers, kies, android sdk, java sdk and when i connect the phone to my pc in download mode it displays ''unrecognized device'' odin doesnt detect it and kies gets stuck at 0% while in download mode im supposing neither of my <<two different computers with 3 usb ports each>> seem to recognize it im on echlair 2.1 update 1 and i am very frustrated.
any help is apreciated!
PS:sorry for long post!1!!!
Check your drivers mate.
Sounds like a driver issue. Unless your phone's USB port or something is broken.
uninstalled kies and installed HTC and samsung driver for mobile phones and still no luck,i can transfer data/files from my phone to my computer so i dont think the usb is the problem :/

First try a normal installation of this package:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
(pick the one for your OS, 32bit or 64bit - I don't know which one you got )
If that fails too, go into device manager, find the "unrecognized device", right click on it and click "Update driver software.." or something like that.
Then choose that you have driver files for this device and point to the folder where you extracted the package and let it search for the proper file.
i already had it installed...no luck! FML ):

Well, I don't know..
Can't think of anything else without actually seeing what's going on..
Maybe I could try helping you using some remote administration software, like teamviewer, but that requires that you trust me so.. ehh.
I also read on another topic that this could also be some usb malfunction (hardware issue).
Plus you said you used 2 PC's and many USB ports so.. don't know.
odin recognizes my phone while on with usb debugging on...
so it has to be drivers issue.
but I can't really help without seeing.
try playing around with the manual way again, pick some other options etc.
i'm off to bed. good luck

Kies on W7 pro 64bit

I am using W7 64bit pro. I can install Kies with no problems, but when I connect the phone (sgs II) I get an error message that The driver did not install correctly. Of course I cannot connect to Kies, thoug I can browse the internal and external card content. No advice worked, tryed to reinstall, use virtual XP 32b, etc...
It works on my desktop 32b but I cannot read the phone numbers, but I need it on my laptop which is running W7 64b pro. Any ideas?
Install Drivers
Open kies and then in the menu bar on top of kies select tools and install drivers.
Tryed this. Does not work.
If the above does not work for you try this.
Run Kies as administrator.
When installing Kies did you follow the instructions to the letter?
Reason I ask Im running Win 7 64 and have no issues with KIES.
Go to Samsung.com and download the Kies from there to your PC.
Uninstall the current one from PC along with any drivers reboot PC.
Now install new KIES without fone connected and follow the instructions.
WHen asked to connect fone do so and not before.

Rubbish, running on my win 7 pro 64bit toshiba lappy.
i guess this is not about flashing, so odin wouldn't help much, especially, since odin needs the working drivers as well.
i read somewhere on here, that the driver installation fails, if there is an external sd card inserted in the sgs2, when first connected (afterwards, there will be no problem on this point).
i agree with the others on other points though, kies really sucks to some extend. the only good feature i used, was media syncing. but for syncing of any kind (not only music and photos, but also savegames and other data) i use microsoft synctoy now, with the galaxy connected in mass storage mode. flashing with odin and syncing with 3rd party apps really makes kies redundant.

Tried to disconnect the SD card, I receive the same error: "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem Failed". Tried to reinstall drivers from Kies tools, of course did not work. Ran out of ideas.
Install the drivers manually from the Kies' "escape" folder. Use the Windows Device manager.
Already done this. DOES NOT WORK.

have you tinkered between usb debugging on and off
Read somehwere the first time you you use kies...have kies running, put phone off usb debugging. then plug it in
I had same problem with my desktop. i went into device manager. there should be an explanation mark next to phone. uninstall driver then reinstall telling it to get driver from the web. then start up kies. ps make sure kies isnt running when u install. hope this works took alit of messing around for it to work for me but eventually did.
I have W7 with 64 bit and fortunatelly KIes works on mine. I live in US and I downloaded Kies from Samsung UK site just in case because the phone was bought from Expansys and is coming also from UK. Maybe try to check on this solution. Also I vaguely believe that I had to disable firewall or Eset during the installation, but I may be wrong on this. That sucks that yours doesn't work. Wish you luck...
I am running Windows 7 in 64bit and everything works perfectly. Except I dont like Kies and used it only once.... to check what its all about.
I do not remember the installation process, but usually hardware must not be plugged in until the driver is actually installed. So just uninstall everything, install it again and THEN when everything is done plug in the phone. It should be then be recognized and working.
However if you want it just to put music on it or copy files in general, better ditch Kies and make your device be recognized by your computer like an USB-Drive.
Go to Settings > Applications > Development (Translated it from German, might be off)
There you check the USB-Debugging option and have no need for Kies anymore.
What USB port are you using? Experience from the cappy forum and personal experience shows that using a USB port right off the MB is best. Not sure if it's a power problem or what. My cappy would always charge and be hit/miss on recognization using the front USB port on my computer. Using a rear port produces connection everytime. I'm on a cappy right now, just waiting for the US release date to get GS II.
None ot the above worked. Giving up. Tx anyway.
