NAND bricked my HD2 any ideas? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

on switching on, it just vibrates, comes up "HTC" (no info at bottom left) and nothing more.
I installed MAGLDR 1.1
I think HSPL *may* have been an older version- 1.42 only noticed that as I was flashing. Didnt realise the newer version was essential. Is it?

Put your phone in bootloader mode(pull battery, insert battery, volume down+power on) and flash the LATEST stock ROM.
This should keep HardSPL but remove MAGLDR.
After flashing the stock ROM, update to latest HardSPL.
Reinstall MAGLDR V1.11 from thread.
Try to install Android again.

Ahh thats great! was my fault for pressing the power button before the vol down key I had tried a number of times, but all working now! Thanks guys!

had this too but hspl3 flashing was enough. no need to uninstall magldr.
and remember if you get it on it's not bricked

I wish people would stop using the phrase "bricked" so loosely.
Your phone isn't and wasn't "bricked".

Still if that would have not fixed ,A task 29 usually fixed bad flashes, try that .
I rarely see a HD2 bricked,Lets not use the phrase so loosely.

No need to remove MAGLDR or flash a stock ROM.
All he needs to do is flash HSPL2.08 and MAGLDR will then continue to boot - I found this out myself.

Potentially Unrecoverably HD2 Stuck In MAGLDR

Hi All,
For the past few months I've been running a DFT NAND build of Android. Yesterday, the phone was running extremely slowly with some odd behavior in the Android menus. When I restarted the phone, loading got as far as the DFT splash screen but then nothing else would happen.
I have since used MAGLDR (1.11) to attempt to boot a fresh Android image from SD card but this hasn't worked. Have managed to use the USB Loader to attempt to flash another NAND build (both Android and WP7) but even though the download process completed, this still didn't work and am stuck in MAGLDR now.
Have read through the forums here and have tried most (if not all) of the suggestions, however nothing seems to be working.
Can anyone offer anymore advice?
Thanks,
Kev
As MAGLDR gets removed if you flash a stock winmo rom I suggest you to try that!
Before you install the winmo rom you can also use Task29 to completely wipe the nand.
good luck
Thanks,
I shall give that a try this evening.
Kev
Unfortunately none of the suggestions have worked. I'm unable to flash a stock WM6.5 ROM as the RUU doesn't detect the phone.
The device does show up in Windows as a Microsoft USB Sync device, however.
Task 29 does not work either due to the same problem.
I've attempted to flash a new Android ROM release but when the phone reboots, it gets stuck on the green HTC logo screen and won't proceed any further.
I don't seem to be able to get MAGLDR 1.13 on the phone either, as DAF.exe complains about some "Config load failed" error.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Kev
*sigh*
you need to read up on "how to flash stock rom from sd card". no need for RUU i believe; sd card method involves copying a file extracted from the stock RUU and placing it in the root of your sd card and letting bootloader detect and flash the file. search for a tutorial or see the stickies.
once you've done that, make a special note about the part that says you need to boot into bootloader (hold down volume down + turn on phone + keep holding volume down until a 4-color screen appears). i suspect you are not doing this step, this is why windows, mtty, etc are unable to detect the device.
if you have already done the above, ignore my post
*sigh* too.
I've already tried flashing from the SD card but I have the same problem. I get to a green HTC loading screen and nothing else happens. I just get stuck in a reboot to MAGLDR and try again loop.
I've read through plenty of posts on flashing custom ROM's and troubleshooting but nothing has helped.
I don't get a 4 colour screen when holding down VOL-DOWN and the power button, the phone just goes into MAGLDR.
Kev
Just to add to that, Windows DOES detect the device but the RUU doesn't. Only the DAF applications find and can talk to the device.
follow me
1. is the battery have enough jiuce? what HSPL you use? hope its HSPL3 2.08HSPL
2. bootloader . . . .
Thanks for your post.
Plenty of juice in the battery.
I believe it is HSPL 2.08 (well, whichever allowed me to get Android on the thing in the first place)
Bootloader what?
Kev
getting into boot loader (4-color screen) is the key to the whole flash with sd card method.
keep trying. read on how to enter bootloader.
i can remember a few ways.
DEVICE IS ON
1. if phone is already on, hold down volume down (keep it pressed HARD)...don't let go of it!
2. push the little reset button under the battery cover. don't let go of the volume down button!
3. don't let go of the volume down button until the 4-color screen appears.
DEVICE IS OFF
1. remove the battery. reinsert it after a few seconds.
2. hold down volume down (keep it pressed HARD)...don't let go of it!
3. tap the end call button and don't let go of the volume down button until the 4-color screen appears.
remember, entering bootloader is the key.
EDIT: it is better to ensure you have sufficient battery. however, flashing via bootloader SKIPS the battery level checks.

in post 4 you noted you tried task 29 but was successful
you are not even familiar with bootloader, ??? makes me wonder
I'm very familiar with a bootloader, your "bootloader..." comment confused me.
Task 29 was unsuccessful. I've read in a number of posts that you can use Task 29 and start from scratch back at the original bootloader (rather than MAGLDR) but this obviously isn't the case.
Holding down the VOL-DOWN key does nothing other than get me to MAGLDR, which is what happens even if I don't hold any keys down.
I fully understand that the key is entering the bootloader, nothing seems to let me get there.

The stupid thing is that if I select Android Flasher from MAGLDR, I'm able to flash a different version of Android to NAND but it just won't boot.
Will try a different forum.

[Q] HD2 Doesnt upgrade

Hi,
Today I've tried to install android onto my HD2. After installing 'mgdlr' to my phone it stopped doing upgrades alltogether.
Mgdlr did install correctly but after the reset I only got that white HTC screen.
I know I have to press the power button really long etc etc (I've read the guide thoroughly).
Now, when I try to install anything it doesn't go any further than 0%. Not with any (official) ROM, radio etc.
I've done several hard resets, soft resets and re-installs but nothing gets past 0%.
Does anyone have any clue what happened and why I can't install a ROM and perhaps knows how to fix it?
What are you trying to install? An android rom? Are you going to the flashing mode in magldr? it's option 4 or 5, I think. Magldr was installed successfully? What radio do you have?
I was indeed trying to install an android rom. My radio version was/is 3.14.404.2
I never got to that mode. I've seen it in video's but mine doesn't. I only get that white screen with, in green letters, HTC on it. No matter how long I hold down the power button.
Btw, I said that magdlr installed succesfully because it installed without errors. But I think it's malfunctioning because it obviously isn;t doing what it's supposed to. Re-installing it isn't an option because it hangs at 0%
Did you try task29? might help with your upgrading issues.

Which NAND rom did you use?
You mean your radio is 2.14.404.2 right, not 3.14.404.2?
Also what is your SPL, it appears in the tri color screen/bootloader.

I think youre right about the radio. It was the standard radio of the latest stock rom. Is there any way to check? My spl is 2.08.0000.
And I was going for rafdroid, not that it matters because I never got close to installing a rom.
Thanks for the replies so far!

if your spl is 2.08.0000, first, how did you get magldr to instal since it requires hspl? second, if you removed hspl after flashing magldr (hence 2.08.0000 and not 2.08.hspl as it should be), why?
enter bootloader, does it really say 2.08.0000?
You dont have to press the power button for 'really long' only about 5 seconds, so long as its the right 5 seconds, , , start the phone, first splashscreen appears, just as the first splashscreen is about to end, (after around 5/6 seconds) start pressing power, and keep it held till the magldr menu appears.

Mate, I need more info.
1. Your device version (branded or non branded?)
2. Your rom version before you start anything (stock or custom rom?, if stock, is it version 3.14 (the latest one)?)
3. Version of Android (NAND or SD Android?)
4. Are you planning to have dual boot WP7 and SD ANdroid?
5. Do you have HSPL installed?
The solution will depend on your answer on the above question
Cheers
Ive tried task29 but it does the same as any other update. It just wont let me flash anything, it keeps hanging at 0%

Ok. Let's start from the very beginning.
Find the CORRECT STOCK ROM first. You go to htc website and use your serial number to download the rom. Make sure your downloaded file is not corrupt.
Get micro sd and use PC to format it to fat 32.
Extract the stock rom and find file with the name: RUU_signed.nbh. Rename it to: leoimg.nbh.
Turn off the phone (make sure battery at least 50% capacity), put your micro sd.
Now, press the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON (don't release it), then press POWER ON button at the same time until white screen appear. Now, follow the on screen instruction.
If you succeed, check your spl by going into boot loader screen.
If your spl is other than spl 3.03, you can continue with next process. Installing SPL 3.03 HSPL.
Then, Do task 29. Then, flash radio 2.15.xx. Then install magldr 1.13.
All process can be done while in the boot loader screen.
If you succeed, you will be brought to mgldr screen. Select option no.5 (USB flasher) and press the green phone call button and connect it via USB, now run the NAND ANDROID you choose from your PC. If fails, retry the process from magldr screen and try different USB port. Also, make sure your anti virus, firewall, and Internet is turn off.
Good luck...
Thank you man, it worked!

Before I start I googled and tried methods I could and all failed.
My phone was working Link Hereperfect with no issues I had installed the DFT LEO Stock Desire NAND Rom.
A week ago it died and I charged it and powered it back up and got the white screen. It wouldnt go away until I pushed the yellow button on the back. Problem solve I would think.
Two days ago on my way to San Francisco it restarted and turned white. I tried all methods I found here and google none work. when I hold the down vol button I do get the 3 color screen and thats it. I attached an picture of what my phone says.

What was the version of MAGLDR you had anyway? The ROM you are/were running is outdated by today's standards anyway.
I would do a task29 and start over. Then flash MAGLDR 1.3, CWM 1.3 and then a new ROM.

If you get bootloader simply flash a stock WM rom or MAGLDR, whats hard about that?
i tried flashing with task29 but it sticks at 0%
Do not use task29 for your problem. Fortunatly it doesn't "clear" the first level bootloader.
Press the vol-down key.
In boot loader, flash:
a/ a WM6 ROM (to do this you can just put a LEOIMG.nhh on the root of your SD)
b/ MAGLDR (the version you need for the build you want)
If you want to put a DFT build. In MAGLDR (so press "end call" and start the phone... keep end call pressed) choose the option "USB flasher" (something like this.
With DFT (in admin) flash:
a/ a DFT build
b/ CWM
If CWM, boot in MAGLDR, choose "AD Recovery" (for CWM 1.13)
In CWM choose the option to flash a zip build.
That's all... good question, good answer.
All what I said if well expained in diffferent sticky. You will find there a lot of step-by-step or video explanations.
Hope this helps.
He doesn't need to clear the first-level bootloader. You can see from his screenshots that he gets into the bootloader just fine. Task29 will format the NAND storage just as flashing a WinMo ROM does. The RUU does a task29 as part of the flashing process anyway. Doing just a task29 saves the time of flashing the ROM.
Either way, you don't "flash" task29. You run the command via mtty. I'm not sure I understand exactly what you're saying when you "flash" task29 and it stayed at 0%.
What was the meaning of my "Fortunatly"
Clear the first level... brick the phone.
So for you task29 is equivalent to flashing a WM?
With or without radio?
(real question, I really don't know exactly what it's doing...)
I know that it "cleans" the NAND but it's not enough for me.
Anyway, I realize it will be better for me to read the dedicated thread or search on google.
For him I keep my advice to do all (task29, full flash from the beggining including WM). It's useless normally but as he has a problem...

[Q] Bricked?

So guys I need help! I can't boot my phone! I can boot in to HSPL but that's about it. I can't boot in to MAGLDR. I tried running a Task29 but it just stays at 0%.
I've tried flashing MAGLDR and it's the same as the Task29... stays at 0%. Has my phone been bricked? Any help appreciated. I've tried flashing a stock ROM from SD and renaming the .nbh to LEOIMG.nbh but the first time I did it and it says to press power to confirm you want to flash it the phone just rebooted to the WSOD. Seems as though that changed my HSPL to HSPL.2.08.0000 now too instead of .HSPL. now all I get when I have the SD card in and boot to HSPL then when it boots to the grey coloured screen it just says "Loading...".
Is there anyway I can get my phone working again? Thanks.
Try to flash WM 6.5 1.66 version (or atleast the one below the most recent) trough SD method.
My kid brother had the same thing, the newest ROM (from HTC website) didnt work cause it gave a error.
If you keep getting some red error status while doing the SD flash, it might be bricked.
After a few tries with the SD method we were able to flash stock spl and such, but still the phone wasnt oke (but oke enough to send it for repair).

Just so you know, when you start a stock rom sd card flash, the first thing it does is reset the spl, THEN it tries to flash the rom, two seperate events, (the phone even restarts in some instances between changing spl and starting the rom flash) so even if the flash fails, or doesnt even start, theres a good chance spl has already been removed.
(side note for info - This situation is most likely to happen when flashing stock from sd card when hspl is installed, because the rom doesnt get rejected at first because hspl is there, but after the spl is reset and teh phone reenters bootloader, it no longer accepts the rom, because hspl is gone, so the phone is temporarily locked up with no hspl and no working rom.)
So, you now have stock spl 2.08.0000 and a non working rom.
enter bootloader,
run hspl (new hspl4 link in my sig)
choose 2.08.hspl
re enter bootloader
flash magldr (just to be sure its there)
if you need to, make sure your radio is high enough version (if you have tmous forget this, if its a regular it needs to be in the 2.10.50 or so version or higher)
from power off, start the phone, as the very first splash screen changes to the black magldr screen, start pressing power, untill the menu items appear.
Job done.
Oh and the line "....I have the SD card in and boot to HSPL ......" makes no sense. You are booting to bootloader. its still bootloader whether it has spl or hspl. Your terminoligy will confuse you.
Well I highly doubt I did. Maybe it just updated the HSPL but that's all. Didn't even get rid of MAGLDR on my phone! When I held in the reset button, it booted straight to MAGLDR.
Maybe mine was just a fluke!
lol thats what i said, in a long winded way. when you run an sd card flash the first three or four seconds it loads the spl from the rom on the sd card, thus removing hspl.
(or in your incorrect words 'Maybe it just updated the HSPL but that's all' - correct, it 'updated' HSPL back to stock SPL)
but hey,its sorted, so no problem.
It's still HSPL though? It's just the previous version that's .0000 instead of .HSPL or am I completely off? Do I need to flash HSPL.2.08.HSPL again or can i just keep it .0000?
Lol I'm stupid. Sorry, realise now what you're saying now that I've looked at the SPL properly. So do you suggest I flash HSPL now?

Lol,
One simple rule...
If it ends 0000 it is STOCK
If it ends .hspl it is hspl
Yes, run hspl.exe again, choose 2.08.hspl
Haha well atleast I've learned now. I don't even read the first part which just said SPL. Fail. If I flash HSPL again do I need to flash MAGLDR again?

possibly, cos teh same sd card flash that wiped hspl could have also removed the second splash screen memory area, which is where magldr lives. deopends how far thru the flash it got before it stopped.
easy to tell tho, let it boot, if you see the black magldr screen appear when the first boot screen vanishes,, quickly press power and it will stop there and show the magldr menu, if it hangs without showing teh magldr screen, magldrs not there, and you pull the battery, into bootloader, flash magldr.

Erm well after the white HTC screen I get the MAGLDR screen that boots to my NAND ROM. I pressed the power button while it was booting but nothing happened.

You will still need 2.08.hspl if you want to reinstall or update your magldr version at some stage. It wont work on 2.08.0000.

Sounds to me like you arent rpessing quick enough. keep holding power from the moment you power on if it helps.
the instructions are to hold power (end key) right from turning on until magldr menu appears, but for me, i watch the first splash screen, and just before it ends (6-7 seconds) only then do i press and hold the end key. do not let go of the end key until teh menu appears, else it will continue to boto the rom.
Oh so all you wanted to know is if I can boot to MAGLDR menu? Yeah, I can lol.
Wait a minute, you can't have MAGLDR unless you have HSPL (HSPL3 2.08) if you have just reflashed HSPL, That means you still don't have MAGLDR, unless you have flashed it already in which case you still don't have a working ROM (Android or Windows 7) until such time you chose an Android or Windows 7 build. confusing?
Here is the sequence of flash events.
1. HSPL3 - 2.08HSPL
2. MAGLDR 1.13
3. Flash your chosen ROM.

[Q] Can't flash stock rom after flashing MAGLDR

Ok guys please help me since I couldn't find the answer
I installed on my hd2:
-HSPL 2.08
-Radio 2.15.50.14
-Magldr 1.13
-CMR
First of all I noticed that I dont have to hold the power button to get into the magldr menu.
I couldn't get into Boot As SD so I wanted to flash winmo stock rom from bootloader. Unfortunately I can't do that. Even tried HR. Is there any solution to flash stock ROM
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Don't use MAGLDR to flash your ROM. Hold the Volume Down rocker when you turn you phone on to access the bootloader (tri-color screen) and then plug your phone into your computer via USB. You should then be able to flash your stock ROM with no trouble.
Alternative: To go full stock, including going back to the stock SPL, check my signature for a link on flashing via the SD card.
Thank you for you reply After several attempts I managed to get my winmo back on via SD because RUU couldn't see my phone
Two questions: So do I still have MAGLDR and CMR after flashin' that stock rom ?
I can see in the bootloader that I'm back on SPL 3.03. Does that mean that I'm back on warranty and HSPL2 is uninstalled?
Thanks!

Yeah you lose everything. Yeah, if you needed to send it away now, you could as it has stock everything. May I ask, why did you install MAGLDR then not even use it properly? What were you trying to do? Dual boot WP7 & Android?
thanks!
Don't you worry I was doing everything by the book
Maybe you know why MAGLDR was turnin on even when I didn't hold the power button ?

When MAGLDR can't find anything to boot up (no properly installed ROM) it defaults to the same menu you see when holding the power button down.
It's strange cause the ROM was flashed properly, at least I think so. It was working properly...
MAGLDR was probably turning your phone in because it was connected to a power source. This had to be done because there was a bug in the old Magldr where you had to keep pulling out the battery. It doesn't go to the bootloader (HSPL) though. It'll boot up and say kernel failed.
What are you trying to do now, reinstall magldr?
Tried couple times and I didn't manage to install Android using MAGLDR 1.13 and CMR.
Now I'm back to WinMo and done for now with flashing Android. Don't want to have an expensive paper holder.
You probably had the wrong partition size in CWM.
I don't think there is really a way of bricking your phone doing this other than flashing an imcompatible radio. I've never had any trouble with flashing with CWM or MAGLDR. You say in your first post, you were trying to boot SD AD? You know that's not for .zips from CWM? That's for people who want to dual-boot WP7 and Android, you have to boot AD NAND for CWM.
CWM was already prepared by the developer
Oh...I was following the video tutorial and the guy gets into the recovery mod by getting into the SD AD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pxucOLY488
Actually I stuck at that point
That's the old way! There's a new way where you just flash a DFT and you go to AD Recovery in magldr an poof! CWM.
Here's the thread just incase you feel like doing it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898913
Don't forget to update your HSPL and radio before doing anything though as you're back on sh*tty WinMo.
I will check on it since you're encouraging me not to give up
Ha ha! Yeah, well I like helping people and Android is just a way better OS then WinMo. Any troubles, just post here and I'll try to help.
Thanks mate, really appreciate your help
No problem. So did you get it working yet or what?
PS. don't forget that thanks button if I've helped. ;D
Not today mate, maybe tommorow will let you know
[EDIT] Wait...today is "tommorow" so "maybe later" I'd say
did it already post #12
Nice... You might aswell do it now then... so you can spend tomorrow looking for apps and getting used to Android.
If I wouldn't have to write my MA dissertation, I would have my HD2 running Android by now
Have you tried it yet?
I'm currently having problems with my HD2 too.
Let's hope this stock ROM works.
