For those of you having issues syncing Facebook contacts... - Vibrant General

Like a lot of you, I was having an issue with my Facebook contacts synching to my phone. When I was on 2.1 there were intermittent problems but after I started trying 2.2 roms none of them would sync. I would always export my contacts to the sd card before wiping and flashing a new rom. One of the first things I did when customizing the new rom would be to import those contacts. I figured out if you set up a Facebook account and set it to sync, allow it to sync and then import your contacts that Facebook contacts will sync every time. I spent yesterday trying this on Nero, Axura, Pepperkake, Gingerclone & Macnut. It worked on each one. If I imported my contacts first, then Facebook, I got the sync error.
Anyway, I hope this works for you. If it does, please click Thanks

Several duplicate contacts in Messaging

Guys
Does anybody else have a problem when composing a sms that when typing a recipient some contacts are duplicated (two of each) in the scroll list that appears and also contacts that I have deleted keep appearing (although they are no longer in the people app or synced with google.
In the people app I have unchecked Google and Sim contacts so I am not sure why this is happening?
any clues?
Yes. It is. In the appointment too I got 5,6 repeated duplicates. May be... I think it is because Tattoo sync with Google Calendar besides Outlook calendar, and even Google calendar & Outlook Calendar (2007) they maintained a no. of different calendars like My Calendar and outlook ... and... So, these things created duplicate entries at some points of conflict or something.
This is really annoying.
I wonder if this happens on the hero as well - it runs the same htc sense and htc messaging app - it could be worth posting this in the hero forum as well
ok the plot thickens on this one - I just used HTC sync with outlook for the 2nd time since getting the phone to see if that would get rid of the duplicate contacts in the messaging app.
Guess what - after the sync ive now got three of evry contact showing on the drop down list. Ive got a feeling that syncing with outlook is causing this.
The only way I can think of getting around this is to master reset the phone then only sync with gmail. Ireally dont want to have to do this - anyone got any better suggestions?
I saved all my contacts on the phone and deleted everything on the sim to get rid of the duplicates.

But actually it is not the question of duplicate from sim and phone.. I never save anything on sim... actually it happened while sync with MS Outlook 2007. But never complain before because I always sync with two PCs, one at home and another at my workplace.. and now it also sync with Google.. may be conflict from that...just guessing...
Anybody have some good explanation is welcome.
Just to let you know, this also happens on my HD2, the contacts from SIM and phone are displayed in messaging. This seems to be happening right across the board with sense. There must be a registry tweak or something to correct this? Anyone?
I know how to fix this

You copy all your sim, phone, twitter, facebook contacts to Google first...
Then delete contacts from all other accounts except Google.
Now if your syncd with google, you can open the contacts within gmail ( would be good if you do on PC ) and use the 'find duplicates & merge' button.
i had around 700 contacts which duplicated many a times to some 3000....
this saved me alot of effort...
refer to ScreenShots... Hit Thanks
after everything is merged in google, do you just leave everything not saved on the phone and sim, or can you import them back to the phone and eliminate the duplicates?

Syncing Music, Contacts, Calendars

I just got an HD2 and got Android running onto it without any issue. I am planning to switch over from an iPhone. I have one issue. I am a users that heavily uses Outlook on a daily basis to manage my Contacts and Calendar. Also, I use iTunes for my music.
I did some research on finding ways to sync iTunes and outlook with Android but I couldn't find any satisfying solution.
I was hoping you guys would be able to share how you guys sync Outlook's contact and calendars onto Android.
I know there are few methods out there where I can sync my Outlook with Gmail using Google Sync app, and then sync my Android with Gmail. Isn't there a more simpler method to achieve this?
This is not a solution to your problem, its just what I did to solve all this import/synch from outlook contacts / calendar which is a very frustrating task. I stoped using outlook! I imported all contacts and calendar entries to gmail - gmail calendar and now everytime I run a new android build all these get synchronized automatically. I just input gmail username and pass. It takes only a minute.
Hope this helps

Obviously it's not an option and I never understood why people still complain about a full blown Outlook solution.
I'm in the same situation as you and I solved with a couple of little programs.
Google Contacts Outlook Synchronizer and Google Calendar Sync. You only have to set things once, then everything works on the fly.
As for your music, winamp has just released a beta version which can sync music via wifi or usb. You do need a beta desktop version as well, found here

I ran into Google App Sync, https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gappssync, but it seems that I have to pay for it. Isn't there something similar to this which is free?

sync two way outlook android gmail wildfire

Hello
Just thought I would share my experiences of the last two days spent looking for a solution to android gmail and outlook sync
I have just bought a wildfire from voda uk £140 on prepay no contract so could play with android o/s
I could not get the thing to sync contacts two way with gmail , any new contact on either gmail or wildfire would sync seamlessly but my main imported ones would not ..
And this seems to be the issue. When I first turned on the wildfire I noticed it had the ability to import contacts over Bluetooth from another phone, this proved to be the issue it would not sync these contacts
So the way I made it work was..
starting with a clean phone
1 export contacts from outlook as a .cvs file
2 import .cvs file in to gmail
3 setup wildfire to sync with gmail account
4 install on winPC one of the many gmail to outlook sync add-ons
Now whatever I change on any of gmail wildfire or outlook. now changes are made to all three
Hope this helps
Exactly the same as I did, it works brilliant! Never loosing my contacts again!

Outlook Calendar & Contacts Sync now available using PC Companion

Just noticed the latest version of PC Companion (updated today) includes 'Sync Zone' which allows you to sync your phone Calendar and Contacts with Outlook 'via Google'.
Haven't tried it, cos I got this set up ages ago using gSyncit, but, obviously, Sync Zone is free so good news for anyone who wants to do this but hasn't worked out how to yet.
i don't have it on mine
version 2.01.110
I Don't know how is it going to clash if you are using Moxier to sync with Exchange (which I'm doing ATM)
Anyone knows about this, please share.
Thanks.
mine showed up finally. works good, some of my merged contacts come into outlook wrong.
I have the update also and I am using it now to sync the contacts between my Google and Outlook now, I use companionlink software to sync previously.
I tried this, and it seems to work well enought. Only problem is it doesn't let you select what Outlook profile you want to sync. In my case, I have two Outlook profiles setups (one for me, and one for my wife). When I tried to sync my wifes contacts onto her phone it grab my profile and merged my contacts with hers.
Anyone know how tell it to use another Outlook profile?

I assume you are using two profiles under the one Windows log on.
The best way is for your wife to logon as a different Windows user. In that way everything is kept separate. It makes life a lot simpler.
This is great news for me. Add the improvements with 2.1.A.0.435, including multitouch and video editing and SE is starting off the new year pretty well. Although, you wouldn't know it with all the whiners bashing SE here on xda.

same...Unknown error
It has totally screwed up my contacts - added random e-mail addresses where they shouldn't be and deleted contacts it shouldn't have. I've used sync software for years, and I understand how it should work - be warned - it doesn't - if you want to try it, make a back-up of *both* address books first.
I click on SE Sync from PC Compaion
i look at Dashboard and only my bookmarks were synced
Everyone should be careful with their outlook sync. Google uses non-standard labels for contact fields. If you have custom labels for anything, it will not translate well to outlook. Same thing with their imap protocols.
Outlook sync with google using pc companion
is anyone else having this problem - when I generate an Outlook appointment, it synchs to Google Calendar fine, when when it re-syncs, it rolls back the time & date in Outlook Calendar ...... ??????????
