Traded my iPhone 4 for a Streak and it came with 2.2 What steps do I have to take to go to StreakDroid FroYo v1.5.1? Thanks.
This is your first Android phone, right? It was mine too. If you're already at 2.2, play with the apps there for a couple of days while you figure out how to upgrade. That way you will have a list of apps that you want to have on your final firmware.
There's very good threads about how to upgrade. You may brick your phone (or at least think you did) but keep working on it. I've found solutions for everything I needed already discussed on the board.

IMO, the 2.2 stock is better with the performance tweaks. I havent had any problems since being on 318

Nope. I was on the HTC G1 for quite a bit and then moved on to HTC Legend and then the iPhone 4. I do know my way around Andriod quite a bit actually. Just havent been up to date. Most of the guides I saw are for 1.6 to custom rom. I dont know what I must be doing since I am already on 2.2 stock.

Your phone showing up with stock 2.2 is pretty sweet. I had to dump 318 since I think DJ_Steve's 1.5.1 is better, but there's still some things like the camera that are weak.

I still cant get the front cam to work though. In the Camera app, I can only see the tab to change to Video mode. No switch for the front cam.
Mines also came with stock 2.2 build and unlocked for T-Mobile. I just flashed djsteves froyo build and IMHO, it runs a lot smoother and faster than stock build

My streak died on me... I couldnt get signal and and i saw that the Airplane mode was enabled. So I tried to disable it but it wouldnt. So rebooted and tried again. Same problem. Decided to do a factory reset.
And then it got stuck with the Dell logo. So I am trying to flash DJ_Steve's rom over now. Hope it boots.

Ok, So I just switched from the Evo over to my Samsung Epic and Not sure if i made the right move. Not a fan of Eclair(android 2.1) and I have not heard good news about the leaked 2.2 for the epic. I'm wondering whats an ideal setup on the epics. Do I upgrade to the leaked 2.2 and get a nice rom?(viperrom looks pretty decent) or do i stick with 2.1 and get a nice rom on that end?those who have a favorite tell me why and let me know some of the pros n cons.
P.S Hi new to forum
I would pick a nice 2.1 rom and wait for official Froyo to launch. There are some bugs with DK28 that are annoying as hell when they occur. None of the things that DK28 fixes are absolutely necessary, such as the much improved GPS. GPS still functions on 2.1, just not nearly as well as on Froyo.

Just sucessfully rooted my phone and now I'm thinking on which ROM to flash to. Probably going to take your advice and stick with 2.1 for now also. Have you tried SyndicateROM? I didn't see very many options for Roms in 2.1 and found this to be only plausible option was wondering if you have tried it and what did you think?(if you have)

I ran syndicaterom for a while. It was very stable and nice. You can also pick a kernel to use in conjunction with whatever rom you use. Stock kernel is very stable obviously, but if you have concerns about battery life or something like that, or feel a need to overclock, there are kernels available that offer that. SyndiateRom comes with the Xtreme kernel if you flash the "Full" release, if I am remembering correctly. It is a very good all around kernel, although Phoenix 1.43 was always the best with regards to battery life for me.

Odin to dk28, one click root, then install bonsai rom and optionally install a theme.
With this setup my GPS works better than it has for any other phone (lock in 5-10 seconds). Flash works, and the system flies. Not many cons that I'm aware of.

Mine is spot on....running EXT4 and custom ROM
If you want working GPS and Flash support in the browser go with a leaked DK28 ROM (ViperROM w/ EXT4 is my personal favorite). GPS is better than ever on Froyo - it actually works now! Extremely well at that... There is a process for going to DK28 and making the GPS happy, as long as you follow that process you'll be in great shape. I really can't think of a reason to be on DI18, unless you need to go into a Sprint store for some reason.

Still overwhelmed, but I like your site's instructions, very thorough, thumbs up for that tip, I still am on stock rooted, but one of these days....at least this site is thorough...
I agree 2.2 is the way to go. The most of the problems on froyo can be pinpointed to a problem installing it. I've flashed froyo plenty of times and if you can get the gps steps down everything should be just fine. if your staying on eclair the overclocked syndicate rom is a beast.

I vote 2.2, I have it and haven't looked back. Its luck of the draw. Some get more bugs then others. I lucked out I guess.
Another vote for 2.2 here. My ROM recommendation is Quantum, it's well-supported and its developer is on top of his game. Some other ROMs include a lot of... gimmicks. Yeah, we'll go with gimmicks. (It slices, it dices, it automagically makes your internets faster!)
In any case, there's no real reason for Android 2.1. The leaked FroYo is stable at this point. If you're getting force closes then it probably means something went wrong during flash. If you can follow instructions then it's not difficult.
Please share with us as to why do you have it installed, such as you dont get any issues or you dont like certain features in others, or you just simply dont want to upgrade

StreakDroid 1.6.0 because it is stable.
I haven't found a compelling reason to upgrade or perfmod. Gameloft games work with 1.6.0. I was stuck on 1.4.6 until 1.6.0 and do miss the "rear door check" being disabled. Many tweaks can be done without flashing.

anyone else have the "this file is audio only" in stock Movies Player?

so far a lot of you are on the official ROMS, impressive if you ask me. im on 1.6.1 as it seemed more stable to me, i couldnt change my keyboards on 1.7, or change the brightness like i used to, so i downgraded.

I stayed on 1.6.1 because its stable. 1.7 doesnt support FFC for Fring and I use it a lot with my girfriend. I think I'll stick to this ROM till the great Dj_Steve comes up with Honeycomb.
Steve's 1.7.. its perfect!
I probably will upgrade when I get the confidence! Just really scared of upgrading and bricking the device. Compared to Touch Pro on WM - I remember upgrading to custom rom on the very first evening! I suppose this is partly because there was more room for WM to be improved on. I am very happy with Android tbh.
Would be really nice to use Honeycomb on this device, but somehow I think it's going to be challenging. I have heard a lot about DJ Steve's achievements, but...let's wait and see and support him however we can.
Another thing - I cannot find any screen shots of roms available - so less tempting to upgrade I think. If the designs were shown-off a bit better, I suppose I would do the leap of faith and upgrade
Current status
Currently running 1.4.6
reasons for this :-
tried 1.5.0, 1.5.1, 1.6.0, 1.6.1 had issues with all trying to use gps.
1.4.6 seems to have best battery of all.
Have checked what 3rd part apps & widgets have been installed as well and even with minimal installed 1.4.6 seems best

There are some cool UI changes and the overall experience seems much snappier since I updated to Gingerale (2.3 based ROM). I would recommend checking it out at least, just make a backup and revert if you don't like it But I bet you will.

I'm going to have to agree. Froyo was great to me, but when I jumped to GB... wow. Quicker, looks better and runs smoother. I just got a replacement phone yesterday with 340 on it and I can't believe I actually used it. Tossed 595 on right away But as Schmidty said, you can always roll it back. To each their own, though.
BTW... that Gingerale looks awesome. I'm gonna try it when I get home
Schmidty and Kobalt, is there that much of a diff? New to world of customizing. I do have 2 X's (one on wireless). Maybe I'll give it a try on that one. I'm sure I can find a thread somewhere. You both recommend Gingerale? My real concern is seeing ongoing threads of issues with these various versions of GB (don't know if gingerale falls in that category). But I'm constantly reading and trying to learn more. This damn phone and these forums has created a monster out of me. I tried my buddies original droid yesterday (totally stock). I almost vomited. He's too afraid to do any form of customization or rooting.
You say faster until you actually load it and it includes more crapware and really is barely faster than the custom gb rom you put on the phone.
I'll stick with a rom'd froyo with gingerbread elements in it till a better gb rom comes out.
Do you have a preference serial?

I would way prefer a clean GB install (Cyanogen anyone?), but I haven't seen one for my X that is as stable as .595.
So I will keep my .595 build (rooted and deoxed) until I see something better.
Gingerbread is almost here? Where have you been? I have been running gingerbread for about a month now. The "official" update is just a number
have any of you guys tried Liberty GB? I downloaded the donate version of Liberty Toolbox from the market and installed the Nightly Gingerbread ROM. So far, kinda stable.
Some bugs are:
-Maps crashes sometimes out of the blue
-Calendars won't let you modify or add items
But I have gotten stronger 3g and faster reception, and faster system overall...
Hope to hear a release date of the a final build Liberty GB

I'd disagree when I flashed to 2.3.4 I could almost see the battery go down as I used it and instantly flashed back to 2.3.3
However a lot of people are getting better battery life so maybe you might be lucky but personally speaking stick to stock first see how you get on and then flash a new rom.
The official 2.3.4 should be out this month
2.3.4 is not a Samsung release only a leaked test rom .
Personally i would learn before flashing and be able to recover to stock/original firmware for warranty purposes .

Went from a Desire to the SGS2 and haven't looked back since. I think it's a great move. In contrast to what you read above, I'd recommend to stay stock for a while. Learn a little about touchwiz. TW is just as smooth, maybe even smoother, than CM7 on the Desire, believe me. There is really no advice to give, they are both great devices, but you will love the SGS2.

Upgrade to a custom rom, they are muuuch better, keeping in mind the warranty problems and such. I´m running a custom 2.3.4 and it´s perfect.
How about the issue on gaming? Does 2.3.4 got better game support?

Fishman is good. My needs are different. I need a Rom that is atleast 2.2.1. So the capacitive buttons dont blind me on each screen press. I'd recommend ultimate rom or biwinning with the sense or sgs2 theme. I also use Bali undervolt kernel. If you haven't already test out the modems for your area. For instance for me its KB1.

CM9's 16B is so functional that I put it on my Dad's phone, and he says it's running much better than it did before on Bionix. The only issue he and I have been having is the GPS, which never has worked from the beginning for us anyways, and very minor things (like the menu for toggle widgets is called lockscreens or something).
ICS is pretty awesome. You may want to give it a shot... I recommend the Icy Glitch kernel to go with CM9.

when you say never worked, do you mean it as GPS ideally should? or even to the low standards of how the vibrant's GPS is supposed to work?
personally since everything works 100% as best as it possibly can right now on my vibrant with bionix fishman mod without a hardware gps fix, i'm very reluctant to move onto ICS if the GPS wont even lock within around 30 secs or so like i can get it to do with froyo especially if it is something i need eventually
minor things like menu names i can definitely deal with, but if froyo's GPS works better overall compared to an ICS rom, i see absolutely no reason to make the switch with this phone. if i need ICS that badly, i will get a new phone
