Good question..
Have a question that i might be able to answer that if u answer this?
When u get a rented movie does it download or stream, cause ive used all share on my tv and it only worked with video files on my phone so i dont think u can.. but maybe someone else has streamed media hub in there tv via all share, im sorry cant be more help :/
I haven't tried it but I don't think you can...
The MediaHub movies are protected by DRM, DLNA by default does not define DRM..(This doesn't mean DRM isnt possible over DLNA..but its not exactly natively in the spec either)
I also think I remember hearing Samsung say no...:/

Thought so, this is why i dont use media hib its just bloatware to me, although i have used all share and i love it it was a breeze and worked beutifully.. i mean who needs a tv out when you got all share on your stuff, the less wires the better.. bummer that samsung doesnt make media hub work with all share tho

I found some girl on Kijiji wanting to trade her Week old Xperia X10 in pristine condition for an iphone 3gs. I ended up talking her into taking my beat up jailbroken iphone 3g + $25 for the Xperia. TomTom on the iphone was the deal closer. How jealous are you all
I love this phone and have zero regrets. Im a new member to this site and have really appreciated all the helpful posts on increasing battery life and general usage of android this being my first android phone.
If i had one complaint about this phone so far it is that i am unable to find an app that has a pc side server to stream all my movies over the net to my phone. I used to have one for the Iphone called AirWave (i think) that would do this while convert the video file to MP4 on the fly.
Lucky you! she should have gone to your location to give it to you and then jump into the falls!! lol
actually i did make her come deliver it LOL

There is one app called Gmote, it s free try it
Thanks for the tip. I get bored working midnights at work
This app would be perfect if it had server side conversion to mp4 on the fly from formats like divx and mkv but i spose i can always convert what i want to watch at home before i goto work. Its definately a step in the right direction and i appreciate your advice.

maby try rock player it plays DIVX on the handset if you have a big enough mem card for several movies
still wishing sony would release a REMOTE PLAY app for android so we can stream from our PS3's ..if not for all androids at least make one built into an SE update for SE users
Rockplayer is the way to go!
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
yea i use rock player already and it works wonders but im looking for something more along the lines of being able to stream my 2TB divx movie collection to my phone over 3g rather than dump and replace off the sd card every few days .... im just lazy like that. I dont think such an app exists yet but Gmote is very close with their beta video player they just lack the codec support at the moment.
Ok. So the media hub is out. Looks like you can rent and/or own movies depending on title. The renting is 2.99. I've found own for 9.99 and 12.99. I'm a little worried about paying DVD prices (or somewhat less for some titles) and not getting the DVD, or getting the ability to transfer to another viewing device, ie. dvd, computer. Anyone know what the lowdown is on transfers, etc? I know I've had a hard time trying to find a movie that I can actually put on this phone via dvd ripping from my own dvd library (if that's even legal) or for download from any legal source online. At least the media hub has that going for it.
Anyone know if there are other avenues to actually use the awesome power of this device to watch movies in my palm? Is Media Hub better than?
Ps. I think it is funny that Forrest Gump is listed as comedy. Nice job classifying that one guys.
it still says coming soon for me :/
*edit* oh nevermind i see, its a system update to get it. XD

Nope, just Vibrant as far as I can tell.
Does it bill to your Sprint bill or is there separate payment information?
probably have to stop by the store so they can take a melon baller to your seat cushion.
I'm not really sure how the payment works. I exchanged my phone today due to the back button issue. Now I haven't received the new update yet.
Media hub payments
Ok. So I broke down and bought the latest star trek. Basically, you enter your credit card information into Media Hub the app stores it there (actually, I think it stores it on Samsung's server). I don't think there are any alternatives. Now, based on the current download rate and percentage, I should be able to watch it sometime next week.
I LOL'ed

3G? 4G? Wifi? On 4G, the previews always played for me instantly. Even the 2 and a half minute trailers.
I watched a few previews over 4g. I have to admit the video quality was excellent and playback smooth. This might be good for an occasional rental, but once netflix comes out for Android they can kiss this goodbye.

download speed and AllShare
Well it looks like there is no AllShare support. Can't push this thing to my TV (actually PS3) for viewing. The movie doesn't show up in the AllShare list. I'm not surprised I guess, just disappointed. My guess is that the movie is not being stored in any meaningful format so AllShare couldn't read it if it wanted to. Of course, there could be a way around or some setting I'm missing. I don't think it's a setting at this point though. Media Hub has no settings anywhere that I can find.
The video quality is pretty awesome, no skips, studders, sloops, woops, or whillips. The sounds wasn't *bad*. It's a decent movie viewing experience - even for a big screen action blockbuster. Would be awesome during a long flight, or similar, without having to drag along extra electronics.
However, combined with there currently being no mini-usb to hdmi cable means no support to watch Media Hub movies on a bigger screen. Looks like I'm back to looking for another solution to watching movies on my phone. 12 bucks isn't really a good investment vs. the actual DVD/Blueray (3 dollars more on Amazon). If I was wealthier, maybe. I think this means I won't be using Media Hub, except for the one movie I already paid for.
About the download speed:
I didn't bother trying to watch it before the download was finished so I don't know if that is possible. I think it was a 1-2 hour download but I didn't keep track, maybe I could have started it sooner. Not to bad I guess (over wifi). I couldn't imagine doing this over 3g...definitely an overnight thing.
So i thought I would try to watch Avatar that came with my vibrant so I plugged in the microsd in the tab tried to launch the movie but all I got was that the movie was locked it asked me if I wanted to unlock it I selected yes but nothing happened, I the tried to play the trailer and it worked. What I also noticed was the the movie didn't work on my vibrant either I guess cause I am running a froyo rom the tab is also running froyo. Has anyone tried to play the movie? Any luck or suggestions.

not exactly the answer i was looking for but thanks.
Register Divx
You probably have to register your "Divx device", it's mentioned in the quick start guide that came with tab! (one of the first pages about licenses)
It's in the online manual as well:
ABOUT DIVX VIDEO-ON-DEMAND
This DivX Certified® device must be registered in order to play purchased DivX Video-on-Demand (VOD) movies. To obtain your registration code, locate the DivX VOD section in your device setup menu. Go to vod.divx. com for more information on how to complete your registration.
Maybe this will solve your problem!
ok maybe this will explain better what i was trying to say on my original post.
On the Vibrant we have a copy of Avatar which is labeled as follows avatar.dcf. now when you launch the stock video player on the vibrant the movie plays no problem. When i insert the microsd card from the Vibrant into the tab and i use the same video player i am unable to play the movie, as stated on my original post it states the the movie is locked and asks me if i want to unlock it but when i select yes nothing happens. hope this clarifies what i want to do.
sounds like it has some kind of protection on it which prohibits it from being played/copied to other devices...

Specs say it does. Pretty much all new devices support DLNA. My Samsung Fascinate has it... Inspire has it.. the Moto Atrix does.
The Fascinate and Inspire have it hidden up in the Gallery app, but not here on the Xoom.
Twonky Client works good as a DLNA client and server, but its not showing up in the Market for the Xoom.
Man, maybe it doesn't....???!?!!
Phonearena says it does -
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Motorola-XOOM-CDMA_id5123
However, Motorola doesn't mention that it does (the Atrix spec says it tho)
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/U...d-Services/Tablets/ci.MOTOROLA-XOOM-US-EN.alt
I hope this doesn't mean we cant use DLNA apps....
It doesn't have to come native for the device to support it. There are a few apps in the market that handle DLNA stuff. What I would love to see would be something to the level of Airplay from the iOS devices. Gotta admit its kinda cool how simple it looks. I would think Google would be all over this trying to push Google TV as well as tablets.
I wonder why Twonky Client doesn't show up. Its installed on my Inspire 4G and I can run the movies from my desktop server perfectly fine.
I then tried PlayON...but guess what, I need Flash.
Im not sure what you guys are trying to accomplish. I have had success with TVersity. Set up a server and navigate to http://IP.OF.THE.SERVER:41952/medialib/browse and watch videos. I use RockPlayer. To play over 3G/4G requires a buffer RockPlayer doesn't have, so I am waiting for an update to VPlayer. With Vplayer on 2.2 I can stream the exact same way as on the EVO, but over 3G/4G when I enable the buffer. It allows the video to pause when data is dropping, and then continue when the connection catches up. To stream with TVersity on a XOOM/RockPlayer requires a steady wifi/4g signal.

You could, but you would still have to put the file on the device offline to watch it offline.
BSPlayer is one of many great media players that can open just about any file format. It can also stream on your home wi-fi from desktop machines on the same network. If you have downloaded AVI or MKV movies you can transfer them by USB cable for offline viewing later, much faster than wireless.
If you purchase or rent from Google Play Movies, you can pin the movie for later offline viewing and it will download the whole thing. However services like Netflix do not offer offline caching.

Eh, the point is to keep storage free (on your Nexus 7) and to not be forced to get 3/4G version of Nexus 7, as far i can see there will be no 4G version on launch, (i would get one otherwise) which is very bad for me, don't know why they do this delayed launch of 4G version.....if you got any info on the 4G version, please share it, thanks for your help :good:

But which do you want? To save storage or to avoid data usage? You can't watch movies offline without using device storage.
