Touchscreen Freeze - HD2 General

hi.. i've had my hd2 for a while, everythings worked fine.. today it stopped working. i run android and the screen started freezing on wakeup from standby. i tried a different build and when i press and hold power to turn off the phone completely or reboot, the screen freezes and i can't click turn off. the same thing happens in windows mobile (i've tried several different roms, even the stock one). everything works fine, but when i hold power to turn off the device, the menu pops up but i cant click anything and everything freezes so i have to pull the battery. any suggestions as to what the problem is? is it a hardware problem? thank you..
edit: actually, i dont even have to press anything. the phone works perfectly fine until it goes into standby. i cant get it out of standby, it just freezes at the lockscreen. is it a hardware problem?

This was a common error for me in the past. I solved it by:
HSPL3 (2.08)
Task29
Flashed latest radio (_14)
Flashed new, titanium winmo ROM
Backed up then reformatted my microSD card
Installed a fresh desire hd-based Android from mdeejay
Turned off "Live Wallpaper"
Installed "Advanced Task Killer" (by ReChild in the Market)
Set ATK to kill all but white-listed apps when the screen turned off
Installed "Overclock Widget" (by Billy Cui in the Market)
Set my overclock to 1200, screen off clock to minimum
Also, make sure that your microSD card isn't falling down and going into "read-only" mode. This happened to me and I had to replace the card
Hope this helps!

I had exact same issue... it is a hardware issue with the button chasis/ digitizer or motherboard. Call up HTC directly and most likely phone should still me under warranty.

This happened to my previous hd2, but not before i tried Android. never tried it on this one, hasn't happened.

Absolutely nothing to do with android, You just happen to be using it at the time.
You have/had defective hardware its as simple as that.

It's the digitalizer my good man, I just had my phone replaced because of it. I had the same symptoms you describe when the phone comes out of standby the touchscreen is paperweight.

I've been running Android for a few months now with no problems, a few weeks ago my touch screen locked up and I couldn't unlock the phone for a couple of hours. later that day everything worked great, untill today. The screen locked up again, so I pulled the battery, but now when it asks if I want to boot into Android, i can't push yes. I've tried more than a few times, hoping to get lucky. A previous post says it's a hardware issue. Do i need to revert back to windows to get it fixed? Can I revert without the use of the touchscreen?

I had the same problem. I would use the phone, then keylock it and put it away. later take it out, press the red button and the screen would turn on, but couldnt slide the unlock bar. Had to pull the battery out and restart it. It would always work fine until i press the red button to turn the screen off, then the same thing.
I took it to the shop i bought it from here in China and they basically told me to F**k off! I ended up going to Taiwan and getting the motherboard, screen and buttons replaced.
Even now its not quite right as when i press the red button to turn the screen off, its as if i pressed it twice. The screen turns off then quickly on again. Other times i press the red button and its as if i never pressed it. Phone doesnt crash, everything is working, just as if i never pressed the red button. Its definatly the phone as i have tried 4 different windows and 2 different Android versions.

Hi. So yeah I figured it was a hardware problem. It wouldn't freeze if I turned it on from standby using any key besides the red end call button. But if I turned it on using the end call button the screen would turn on but it would freeze. I called up T-Mobile and got a replacement. HTC offered a replacement too but they were gonna take 2 weeks so I went with T-Mobile. Hopefully this helps anyone else who has this problem. HTC will replace it. Thanks for everyone's help

Same issue here, called up tmobile. Will be receiving a new or "like new" unit next week.

Dear, I had the same issue today, but finally I found some people said it is becacue of the electrostatic problem, the problem cuased by the PC/laptop Power Cable is not connected to the earth.
The solution is just opening a cigerate ligher or even touching the water piple can solve this.
I did solve it.

This is exactly what is happening to me now it is rly driving me mad, how does a cigarette lighter help this?
edit: First i have tried installing a new build and that didn't work, after that i did task29 and fresh install at first it was the same. The strange thing was sometimes when i turn the screen on with back button it would start working, as if it didn't want to work any other button. This is where i lost any hope i just started randomly putting metal coins on the screen, touching pipes radiators and at the end somehow it started working. I was like wtf this is beyond strange, how can someone make this infernal device.

What about using a wall charger? Still no ground? I used both computer and wall charger but the problem remained. If my new unit messes up ill try the car lighter

fix?
did anyone know the cause for all of this? i had my hd2 replaced yesterday.

Same issue here... unfortunately that's a hardware issue. I've sent mine to HTC service center, awaiting to get it back!!!

Yes I did that I was running on Energy ROM as primary OS and android from SD card, so before sending it to service center I downloaded the latest ROM from HTC site and flashed it on my device. Although it stuckked at first time configuration wizard

Herald (P4350) stuck in boot loader

My P4350 *always* comes up with the bootloader (tries to read the SD card).
I tried running heradiag.nbh but got the "Security Level" issue.
Then I tried just putting an officially signed RUU on the SD card - and it loaded successfully, upgrading my IPL and SPL from 4.xx.xxxx to 5.xx.xxxx
Unfortunately, it is still stuck in the bootloader, so I am unable to get back into WM.
My only guess now is that the camera button has taken enough physical abuse (from hitting the ground) so that it is engaged and puts me into the bootloader screen.
Anyone have any tips at this point? With the exception of that, everything seems to be fine and dandy :/

Hmm. Don't you usually have to press the soft-reset button while holding the camera button to get into the bootloader? So then it shouldn't be going into the bootloader. Have you tried removing the battery for 3 seconds, and then replacing it? Then try to flash after that again. See if that works.

Well, I do believe that the camera button has taken a bit of a beating. More than a year ago, when the phone started doing this, I disassembled it in the hopes of finding something to straighten out around where the camera button is. Now I can't quite remember what I found, so I guess I will have to open it again. I believe the switch was broken - possibly broken loose from the MB.
But yes, as far as I have been able to read, a combination of different buttons should be pressed, so I don't understand why I am getting the bootloader.
In any case, 10 seconds with no battery (and it was very very dead from being unused for more than a year!!), made no difference.
I will try to reflash it, but that was successful, and IPL and SPL were both updated.
I wonder if I could short or open the camera button to fix this. I never did like the camera buttons that are so easy to hit anyways...

Let me try to be unambiguous -
I was successful in loading the RUU_Signed ROM - the bootloader read it off my SD card, installed it - and in the process upgraded the IPL and SPL from 4.xx.xxxx to 5.xx.xxxx
HOWEVER - It still only goes into the bootloader when I cycle the phone. It does not boot the OS. so no go on WM.

A quick bit of additional information:
When I plug in the usb-charger, the phone automatically starts up and goes directly into the bootloader.
If I push and hold the power button, it shuts off, then comes on again after a few seconds.
If I unplug the charger, I can shut it off and it does not start up again automatically.

The camera button is missing
I took the thing apart again - and now I remember - after some fatal kinetic energy poisioning (i.e. falling onto the floor), the microswitch for the camera button dislodged itself.
So there is, in fact, no camera button anymore.
Does anyone know if a "missing" microswitch would be equal to it always being pushed in? Perhaps a short here would allow the phone to boot normally?

Please HELP. TG01 does not power on after trying to flash rom with pin shorten method

I've tried to flash rom with pin shorten method but unfortunatly during that I've pulled of bettery. After that phone does not power on. Is it possible to fix it?
Thanks in advance!
You have to do something wrong.
First short pins and then pull battery or short press PWR and reset with switch.
But if your device start normaly and you would like to "load" UK SW use SDDL+ and will work fine

You did secure your battery in place while using the pin short method? If power is lost while carrying out this procedure, you will truly brick your device. You have to try and make sure battery is secured to the device, while pin short method is used, so that the battery cannot fall out when you turn the device over
If you cannot revive your device, i think ths is what has happened

i dont think it is possible to fix this problem, as your phone no longer appears to have any software left on it. No sddl, no OS, no nothing and if theres no sddl it wont boot. In short you have a very expensive paper weight. I hope i am proven wrong, sorry about the bad news.

I am not sure that you have made the procedure the right way, so would you like to try the shorten pin method while the phone is switched off. Press the switch on button while shortening the two contacts. If it doesn't work, the other possibility is to take it to a service.
Please let me know what happen if you plug battery and start charging without switching it on?
If nothing you can have empty battery or dead TG.
If not start charging you can charge battery on external battery charger or take one USB cable and cut mini or micro USB plug. Take red and black cables remove isolation and plug red to + and black to -. Wait 2 or 3 minutes and then plug battery to TG and check if START or not if not go to service point.

I'm pretty sure that it is not battery problem as I have 2 tg01s and have checked batter on second phone, so I guess I need any method to recover boot loader externally.
Unfortunatly I live in Armenia and here no any Toshiba service centers here.

hello,
this method helps me if i have "nand error" ....
on picture you see not a short pin .. it is a "long pin"-method.
it means that you connect the two pins and let it connectet.
than try
a. press long on/off - button and hold it for 10 seconds. than do nothing and look if bootloader starts.
or
b. press on/off - button and hold. after 2 seconds press reset-button too. hold reset-button for 5 or 10 seconds. than do nothing and look if bootloader...
c. try some combinations ... but always let the two-pins connectet.

My experience in bricking 2 tg01.
When we shorten pin and boot, the bootloader actually first triesd to write itself and in that shor period of time, something go wrong, the boot loader cannot flash itself back and hence we are left with an empty nand.So unless we know a jtag, very difficult to get the devices back.

Thats a pitty :S kevin had a tg01 going dead also in a flashing procedure. He doesn't know what gone wrong with it. The "nice" thing is that he has a ROM that shows toshiba logo on startup and then nothing, so he may be able to call toshiba arguing the phone has stoped working properly. In fact it's true, because he didn't do anything wrong from my point of view from his reports.
well can cedesmith code a tool which will make tsw file with only the os PART, so that no one will brick device..and even something go wrong, the bootloader is alive so everyone can recover their device. cedesmith i hope u read my post
i guess filing a block with FF will make phone skip that block from flashing.
my assumption is based on the fact that SIM_SECURE is FF filled.
i think i don't need to tell you what happens if i am wrong and we overwrite AMSS with FF.
Hello cedesmth
thanks.Yes i undederstand that, but is possoble to check how .tsw is made..i mean the sddl tool will check the tsw file and will flash only the OS part, like we do in htc device, NBH contains only OS, but it can originally have splash, spl, radio as well.I hope you got my point
Today i've found the following:
http://forum.revskills.de/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=139&start=0
what does it meen JTAG, is it possible to solve my problem with it, if yes then how?
@cedesmith maybe we could test it on less important section of rom eg. radio (I don't know if TG01 starts with messed up radio but ASUS P525 was starting but slooooowly)

Weird problem with Touch HD

Here's the full story.
The first time i encountered the problem was when i was done using Froyo from the Android thread (works perfectly btw). I restarted the device via the button on the back like i've done a hundred times but this time it vibrated and nothing showed on screen.
I figured it was some random fluke - i yanked out the battery, put it back in and powered the phone - everything was fine so i didn't think anything of it.
Two days after that i picked up my phone from my desk and tried to turn on the screen but nothing happened, thinking it was stuck somehow i rested via the button - this time it didn't vibrate and it didn't turn on. I tried a couple more times to restart it - nothing. I pulled the battery and tried to turn it on via the power button - nothing. After three tries of pulling the battery and pressing the power button it vibrated but the screen didn't turn on, i left it like that for a minute and i heard the startup sound from my ROM (Energy's from july 1th).
I pulled the battery again and tried again - this time it turned on vibrated and i saw the smart mobility screen after it booted into WinMo i noticed that the wi-fi was turned on, so while i was mashing the screen i must've activated it. This leads me to speculate that WinMo was powered on and the touchscreen was registering input. I set it down trying to think what the problem can be and turned off the screen - it went to complete black first (noticed it due to being in total darkness) and then turned off - couldn't get it to turn on so I again restarted - it vibrated again, but again no smart mobility screen, the startup sound came and i pressed the power button - that turned on the screen and everything was fine.
Frustrated i performed a hard reset but that didn't help - again the screen wasn't powered on.
A couple of more hard resets later i decided to do a task29.
After the task29 i flashed Energy's 8th july ROM, but the problem is still there. (After flashing i couldn't power it on for a while).
So to sum up:
- from time to time no screen
- did a hard reset and a task 29
- i have access to the bootloader and it loads every time (the screen turns on every time)
So due to the fact that the bootloader turns on the screen every time i think that i can rule out a hardware problem with the screen, but i did a task29 and flashed a new rom so it shouldn't be anything software related either...
The phone works after a while and is fully functional but the problem happens from time to time (i haven't installed any additional software to eliminate interference).
What do you guys think?
I've been doing some testing and the "blackout" presents itself at random.
If i leave the phone on after a while it blacks out when i press the power button the screen stays off but the button at the bottom work, also the volume buttons change the volume and i can hear the sound. If i leave it for a while and try again the screen does turn on. I can't figure out why and what causes it to do that...
One time that it did boot up properly there was this message

I noticed that i had a Microp at the bootloader screen. Does anyone know what it is and why it's tormenting me?
Also while the phone is charging and the led light is on and the phone goes in black out "mode" the light doesn't go off after i unplug it even after it goes out of blackout mode. Maybe that's a clue.
I'm stuck and have no ideas...

i think microp stands for microphone
update it?
don't where from but will post if i find it or someone else migt be able to find it.
another problem is how are you going to install it for that i do not know unless the phone still operates then you can install it by cab if not maybe it can be cooked into one of the new roms.
hope you get your phone running again soon!

Sorry for re-bumping an old thread, but I think my phone may be doing something similar.
Did you manage to get it going OP?
My phone has worked fine since I got it (a year or so ago) - but just lately it has been a complete a**e to boot up. I was using the BSHenge ROM (USPL) when the problem started and my phone randomly froze, leaving no alternative but to reset it. After the reset I either get a black screen only, or the initial boot screen "Smart Mobile" with the ROM version in the bottom right corner eventually appearing. Then it hangs.
I did a hard reset, installed the latest NRG ROM and my problems seemed to get worse, I persisted resetting and yanking the battery and eventually it did boot, but froze when trying to do various basic tasks.
I've sort of got it working by hard resetting again, choosing the latest BSHenge ROM and re-flashing... It's still really slow on boot up but does seem to get there... I haven't dared put my storage card back in yet - I intend to back it up and re-format it... I just get the sinking feeling that this problem is getting progressing stil and is possibly hardware?
I don't know what a task 29 is, so I don't think I've done one of those - I've done a hard reset (power and vol-up to boot), and I'm pretty well versed using the USPL and flashing the ROM.

Has anyone noticed the "Check battery" dialog box appearing after reboot?

Hello all,
Today I stumbled onto something that is rather annoying. As I was tweaking which apps I'd like disabled, I noticed that the "Check Battery" box pops up on every reboot, especially if I don't immediately unlock my phone. Because I never noticed before, I thought it was all the tweaking I did so I re-enabled everything. It still continues to show though, so I decided to factory reset. It still continues to show!
Now, when you first buy the GS5. If you remember, upon every reboot, you will be welcomed with a "make sure to check battery cover" until the third message, which allows you to disable the dialog all together.
Now, this is where my problem exists(perhaps even yours as well). Reboot your GS5. Do not unlock it when it starts up. Let the phone shut off the screen(default is 30 seconds). Wake the phone and unlock\swipe to go into your home screen. You should see a glimpse of the picture attached. It happens very fast, but it is clearly visible.
Funny thing is... if you reboot the phone, log in immediately after, there is no problem with this quick dialog pop up at all. I mean, it isn't really a problem to begin with. I would just like to know if its faulty software or my GS5.
Thanks in advance,
Dominick
No one? Oh man, I'll definitely be heading to the Verizon store later... lol

It's that the notice on cover not tight? To let you know that it's not water safe?
Yes. I believe this one is referring to the battery covery. It's closed. It's tightly closed. The message appears so fast I had to slow motion a video to obtain the picture I've provided above. It doesn't happen every reboot. It only happens when I reboot, let the phone turn off screen, and then unlock it. I'll see a glimpse of that message and it closes automatically.

Okay so I had some time and made it down to the Verizon store. I can replicate the problem with ease. I know most of the average phone users will probably never notice, but I think I can confidently say that this is a software glitch on all of our GS5's. lol

This is normal. I get the warning everytime I reboot my phone. This is just a warning, even if your cover is tight. You can check the option do not show this again to get rid of the warning.
Also a trick you can do to take a screencap of your phone is to press and hold home and power at the same time.

You know what, I've noticed this too.
It's quite fast. It's probably the same message box that comes up, and since I've checked to not see the message again, it comes up and then disappears. You have to be very quick to catch it.
yea n there is another one that says to make sure the battery door is closed properly where you plug the micro usb in to.. its to make sure its properly sealed in case it comes in to contact with water

Yes, I saw that as well. I think it just a reminder so people pay more attention to close the back cover properly and firmly to avoid water to get in if phone accidently drops in water since s5 designed to prevent from water damage.

Many S5s do not have turning those pop-up warnings off like Verizon models, we need a solution to turning these off without compromising the phone's warranty...

[Q] Possibly bricked LG L7 P700

Hello all and thanks to anyone reading this. I'll try to keep it short.
My friend asked me to replace the broken touch screen on his Optimus phone. I ordered a third party replacement touch screen from ebay and whilst replacing it I managed to crack the LCD screen. Which, as it turns out, is quite sensible. So I ordered a replacement LCD screen from ebay (another third party product) and now this is what happens:
1. the device turns on nicely, vibrates, I get the LG logo and about 60 seconds later the device emanates some sound (supposedly welcoming the user to the "desktop") but then the screen goes (stays) black without the LG logo. I can see the background lighting and the two keys have their background lighting on, but that's about it.
2. while connected to the PC, the device is recognized as a P700 phone, can't access files though. I presume due to being unable to switch the USB mode. From time to time, while left connected, the device will vibrate with no visible change on any of the background lighting.
3. things I have tried:
a) starting the phone in "recovery" by having the volume up key pressed up while plugging the USB cable. Tried this both with and without the battery. No discernible changes occurred. I assume this would work only when a recovery image is installed, which this phone doesn't have.
b) tried to perform a "hard reset" by holding the power and volume down key at the same time and then tapping the menu key when the phone vibrated and soon thereafter releasing the power and volume down key. No change.
4. things I presume/ask:
a) the LCD screen is obviously working OK, since the LG logo is shown. However, there may be a possibility that a "lower" video mode is used during bootup which works, but when the phone tries to go to "full" mode and it fails. Don't know how these things work on mobiles, really. Seen similar stuff happen on PCs so I'm not really certain the screen is fully functional, compatible etc.
b) the touch screen, I have no idea at this point whether it's working correctly or not, is it compatible etc. Could an incompatible screen/touch cause something like this?
c) if I assume the screen and touch are OK, then it must be a software problem. However, is there an option to have this device flashed with a stock ROM without having the option to turn on USB debugging?
Currently, I have no idea which firmware version the phone is using. To the best of my knowledge, the phone isn't rooted since the previous owner had it just for a while and when the touch screen broke he handed it over to my friend and that's how this mess started. Honestly, if someone payed me to do this (which I wouldn't even accept due to being inept at such matters) I'd just reimburse them, scrap the phone and take this thorn out of my posterior. However, with people you know and have decent relations with it's hard to settle such matters so I'd really like to repair this little phone.
Previously I have managed to change roms on some of my phones (T-Mobile Pulse, xperia Ray; without actually bricking anything) so I have a general idea on how these things work, but this issue is well over my head and therefore any advice would/will be greeted with a giant gaping smile on my face.
To end with a fitting quote: "Favor gonna kill you faster than a bullet".

you may have moved a chip of sorts or didnt insert the touch correctly.
i use to have a huawei u8110.
It once started having boot loops, when i opened it i saw that a chip was not correctly inserted in its socket.
So you may have moved a chip or just didnt insert the screen correctly.

OK, thanks. I'll certainly try to reassemble it. I guess all that's really needed is to unplug and reconnect everything?
OK, I tried reconnecting everything. Some of these connectors are a bit finicky, but I think they all sat just right, clicked into place and seem leveled. No dice.

A hardware problem does inflict software problems, my guess is. The screen is not an original LG screen. Witch may be the main source of the problem.

I guess that option can't be dismissed.

only thing you can do now is try to find an original screen for the phone and install it.

Well, if I had one of those laying around it would have been the first thing I tried. But this is a really low cost phone throwing even more money at it doesn't seem like the right thing to do. Especially since there aren't any guarantees replacing the screen would fix the problem.

That is true, its really not a bad device once you mod it up a bit, but it is a low cost device now.

May be you can try and flash stock via kdz, and see if it works...
Sent from my LG-P705 using XDA Free mobile app
I did download some kdz related files, probably from some thread on xda. I'll try seeing if I can do anything with it.
I have followed this procedure http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1060121
This is the resulting log:
[R&D Test Tools Log File]
19:18:59 : Launching SW update
19:18:59 : Unpacking KDZ
19:19:16 : KDZ file extraced
19:19:18 : Files were extracted.
19:19:18 : LGMobileDL Load.
19:19:18 : Port = -1
19:19:18 : Connecting to phone
19:19:18 : PHONE WAS NOT FOUND!
19:19:21 : ===FINISHED===
The phone is (sometimes) recognized in the device manager, however it doesn't appear to be detected currently.
Edit2:
Now the phone is detected as an "LG P700" in the device manager, even though it's marked as if it has some problem. Tried rerunning the KDZ update tool and something is happening! LMAO will let you know. The screen has turned in a nice shade of green, apparently the emergency mode.
I left it for a few minutes, the updater has "finished" shown in the log window, but then the updater tool crashes. No change on the phone, sadly. Tried repeating it, no dice. I think the tune which is played upon failed bootup has changed.

I installed "V20D_00.kdz" is there some other firmware version you would recommend?

no nothing is wrong, updater tool always crashes when kdz is finished, i forgot to mention, when kdz is done it automatically creates a boot loop, thats not an error. Power off the device. Hold vol up and vol down and menu. Connect to your charger. Do a factory reset and the phone will boot normally

Btw if the factory reset wont work, change phone model from DIAG to emergency. Follow me previous instructions.
