Good afternoon, dear X1 and Windows Mobile gurus!
I have heard that it's impossible for alarm to fire in WM devises when it's completely turned off. I know, it's WM "feature".
BUT I want to ask, if there is some possibility to change this fact with Xperia, using its hardware? Just if to think about it... At least, its clock are ticking when it's turned off...
You will probably say: "No, it's a small computer...", BUT I have a computer at home which can be set to automatically turn on(in specified time - NOT wake up, but turn on!) when powered off (can be set via BIOS setup). For sure it's motherboard will be powered on(it's led is on), but I think something like this should be in devices like Xperia! Otherwise, just think: we pay over 600 euro for a device which can't make simple thing, available in a very cheap mobile phone

No. I'm actually not aware of any phone that can be powered on through an alarm. Xperia hardware is not different from the other windows mobile devices in this perspective. All WM devices can keep track of time when off, yet there are no programs that allow any of them to be turned on to run a program when turned off which means that it's impossible.
Don't forget that non WM devices can do this easily, wake on for alarm or even calendar events.
Well, there is also another problem (or so called), while the device is in sleep mode, it wakes up at midnight to reorder the notifications and alarms for the next day, it wakes up completely, screen at full intensity, all apps, my question is: can't WM wake up internally without screen activity?
I leave my mobile near the bed, screen upside, and at midnight i see this light in the whole room ....

I assume you meant "PDA". Because any phone can do it nowadays.
I'm asking because there just could be a wise guy, who makes(or tried to make) some tests and tried to make it work when powered off... It would be nice to have such availability, because a lot of people are turning their phones off evenings to not waste its accum power.
Very interesting, my old W800i woke up on alarm and the X1 doesn't, but I think that's good so I know it is really off and no one can track me or anything else (because if it wakes up for alarm it could wake up for some other things too...)... and the standy mode it not too bad...
I have to look on my X1, I haven't seen that the screen turns on at midnight When I'm asleep at midnight, I don't remark that...

I believe that there is an option in W800i (just like in my K800i) to NOT turn the phone on while a calendar event or alarm fires. So you can be fully protected from any kinds of trackings The same idea could be used and in Xperia X1... if somebody told us that it's theoretically possible... maybe using another OS or soft or something...
Yes, but if I can turn the option on a hacker can do the same, it there is no way to turn such an option on, a hacker also can't do... but let's stop these hacking things, I know that option is nice and I liked it with my W800i

turning the Phone off means its off. just liek a computer. (plz dont start a coversation ehre about how computers and phones still suck some power)
K800i, and other PHONEs have this feature build into the hardware. so unless u reverse engineer the whoel hardware and find some way soldier some additional hardware and reqrite the Windows Mobile kernerl, thers not much chance of fireing off an alarm.
There is always the possibility to turn off the phone call functions by the communication manager, and letting the PDA part on to use the other functions !

Well... My main goal was to turn off my X1 for nights to save the accum. Now... if we can't turn on X1 from "powered off", then we can turn everything off, EXCEPT our alarm program. But I assume that it's already done in standby mode(when screen goes off). Therefore goes a question: is there anything that can be turned OFF in standby mode, to maximally reach "powered off" status and power consumption? Hope the question is clear...
PDA phones are not designed to be powered off at all. The reason why electronics can still keep the time while "powered off" is because they're actually still drawing power- enough to keep the time running (think about the same current as a simple calculator or a wristwatch) It's not like this phone actually consumes a lot of energy, the battery in its entirety is only 5.4Wh and it lasts 2 full days with a data connection active the entire time for me- it'll probably last a little short of a working week with it off. You're not really saving much energy by turning the phone off.

As Trudi already mentioned: Just press the icon for "flight mode" on the SE-Panel. All the phone functions are disabled then and the phone hardly draws any power in this state.
I do this every night (from 12pm to 6am) and the battery lasts for 5 days with normal use. So in my opinion, flight mode + standby are fine and on top of that I don't need to switch my phone off and on and off an on and off and...each night.

My P4350 *always* comes up with the bootloader (tries to read the SD card).
I tried running heradiag.nbh but got the "Security Level" issue.
Then I tried just putting an officially signed RUU on the SD card - and it loaded successfully, upgrading my IPL and SPL from 4.xx.xxxx to 5.xx.xxxx
Unfortunately, it is still stuck in the bootloader, so I am unable to get back into WM.
My only guess now is that the camera button has taken enough physical abuse (from hitting the ground) so that it is engaged and puts me into the bootloader screen.
Anyone have any tips at this point? With the exception of that, everything seems to be fine and dandy :/

Hmm. Don't you usually have to press the soft-reset button while holding the camera button to get into the bootloader? So then it shouldn't be going into the bootloader. Have you tried removing the battery for 3 seconds, and then replacing it? Then try to flash after that again. See if that works.

Well, I do believe that the camera button has taken a bit of a beating. More than a year ago, when the phone started doing this, I disassembled it in the hopes of finding something to straighten out around where the camera button is. Now I can't quite remember what I found, so I guess I will have to open it again. I believe the switch was broken - possibly broken loose from the MB.
But yes, as far as I have been able to read, a combination of different buttons should be pressed, so I don't understand why I am getting the bootloader.
In any case, 10 seconds with no battery (and it was very very dead from being unused for more than a year!!), made no difference.
I will try to reflash it, but that was successful, and IPL and SPL were both updated.
I wonder if I could short or open the camera button to fix this. I never did like the camera buttons that are so easy to hit anyways...

Let me try to be unambiguous -
I was successful in loading the RUU_Signed ROM - the bootloader read it off my SD card, installed it - and in the process upgraded the IPL and SPL from 4.xx.xxxx to 5.xx.xxxx
HOWEVER - It still only goes into the bootloader when I cycle the phone. It does not boot the OS. so no go on WM.

A quick bit of additional information:
When I plug in the usb-charger, the phone automatically starts up and goes directly into the bootloader.
If I push and hold the power button, it shuts off, then comes on again after a few seconds.
If I unplug the charger, I can shut it off and it does not start up again automatically.

The camera button is missing
I took the thing apart again - and now I remember - after some fatal kinetic energy poisioning (i.e. falling onto the floor), the microswitch for the camera button dislodged itself.
So there is, in fact, no camera button anymore.
Does anyone know if a "missing" microswitch would be equal to it always being pushed in? Perhaps a short here would allow the phone to boot normally?

hi.. i've had my hd2 for a while, everythings worked fine.. today it stopped working. i run android and the screen started freezing on wakeup from standby. i tried a different build and when i press and hold power to turn off the phone completely or reboot, the screen freezes and i can't click turn off. the same thing happens in windows mobile (i've tried several different roms, even the stock one). everything works fine, but when i hold power to turn off the device, the menu pops up but i cant click anything and everything freezes so i have to pull the battery. any suggestions as to what the problem is? is it a hardware problem? thank you..
edit: actually, i dont even have to press anything. the phone works perfectly fine until it goes into standby. i cant get it out of standby, it just freezes at the lockscreen. is it a hardware problem?

This was a common error for me in the past. I solved it by:
HSPL3 (2.08)
Task29
Flashed latest radio (_14)
Flashed new, titanium winmo ROM
Backed up then reformatted my microSD card
Installed a fresh desire hd-based Android from mdeejay
Turned off "Live Wallpaper"
Installed "Advanced Task Killer" (by ReChild in the Market)
Set ATK to kill all but white-listed apps when the screen turned off
Installed "Overclock Widget" (by Billy Cui in the Market)
Set my overclock to 1200, screen off clock to minimum
Also, make sure that your microSD card isn't falling down and going into "read-only" mode. This happened to me and I had to replace the card

I had exact same issue... it is a hardware issue with the button chasis/ digitizer or motherboard. Call up HTC directly and most likely phone should still me under warranty.
This happened to my previous hd2, but not before i tried Android. never tried it on this one, hasn't happened.

Absolutely nothing to do with android, You just happen to be using it at the time.
You have/had defective hardware its as simple as that.
It's the digitalizer my good man, I just had my phone replaced because of it. I had the same symptoms you describe when the phone comes out of standby the touchscreen is paperweight.
I've been running Android for a few months now with no problems, a few weeks ago my touch screen locked up and I couldn't unlock the phone for a couple of hours. later that day everything worked great, untill today. The screen locked up again, so I pulled the battery, but now when it asks if I want to boot into Android, i can't push yes. I've tried more than a few times, hoping to get lucky. A previous post says it's a hardware issue. Do i need to revert back to windows to get it fixed? Can I revert without the use of the touchscreen?
I had the same problem. I would use the phone, then keylock it and put it away. later take it out, press the red button and the screen would turn on, but couldnt slide the unlock bar. Had to pull the battery out and restart it. It would always work fine until i press the red button to turn the screen off, then the same thing.
I took it to the shop i bought it from here in China and they basically told me to F**k off! I ended up going to Taiwan and getting the motherboard, screen and buttons replaced.
Even now its not quite right as when i press the red button to turn the screen off, its as if i pressed it twice. The screen turns off then quickly on again. Other times i press the red button and its as if i never pressed it. Phone doesnt crash, everything is working, just as if i never pressed the red button. Its definatly the phone as i have tried 4 different windows and 2 different Android versions.
Hi. So yeah I figured it was a hardware problem. It wouldn't freeze if I turned it on from standby using any key besides the red end call button. But if I turned it on using the end call button the screen would turn on but it would freeze. I called up T-Mobile and got a replacement. HTC offered a replacement too but they were gonna take 2 weeks so I went with T-Mobile. Hopefully this helps anyone else who has this problem. HTC will replace it. Thanks for everyone's help

Dear, I had the same issue today, but finally I found some people said it is becacue of the electrostatic problem, the problem cuased by the PC/laptop Power Cable is not connected to the earth.
The solution is just opening a cigerate ligher or even touching the water piple can solve this.
I did solve it.

This is exactly what is happening to me now it is rly driving me mad, how does a cigarette lighter help this?
edit: First i have tried installing a new build and that didn't work, after that i did task29 and fresh install at first it was the same. The strange thing was sometimes when i turn the screen on with back button it would start working, as if it didn't want to work any other button. This is where i lost any hope i just started randomly putting metal coins on the screen, touching pipes radiators and at the end somehow it started working. I was like wtf this is beyond strange, how can someone make this infernal device.
What about using a wall charger? Still no ground? I used both computer and wall charger but the problem remained. If my new unit messes up ill try the car lighter

Yes I did that I was running on Energy ROM as primary OS and android from SD card, so before sending it to service center I downloaded the latest ROM from HTC site and flashed it on my device. Although it stuckked at first time configuration wizard

Yup! when it has hspl it should look like 2.08.HSPL and now you have 2.10.0000. i think you should be ok. i returned mine like that too and installed stock winmo 6.5
The dreaded brick, perhaps one of the more overused terms when it comes to the galaxy s. By all accounts the SGS is one of the most difficult phones to actually brick.
As Shantzu put it:
Bricked: The term "bricking" should only be used in the case where you get your phone in a state where it is inoperable AND you can not in any way repair it yourself.
In many cases your phone is not bricked. Common uses of the phrase bricked often include:
1. Boot looping
Try option a, b or c2. Not going past SGS logo

In most circumstances your phone is still recoverable. Have a look below to see what you can do.
Options:
a. If you have the 3 button combo available then try the the download mode combo (Volume Down + Home + Power). If the phone is displaying the BSOD logo and you hold this combo for 10 seconds or so, with the USB plug in, you might just be able to get it into download mode (if you're lucky). If you get the charge screen, turn off phone and try again without USB plug in.
b. You can make this or buy one on ebay. It will set you back up to $10. Once you have the jig, have the phone off, plug it in and it should boot into download mode.
c. Use android debug bridge. There is a useful guide on how to get it working and how to use it to put phone in download mode here. This will only work if your PC is registering the phone as plugged in.
d. Use TechKidTarek's method here to restore correct booting.
If the above options do work, then what you need to do next is get odin up and running and flash with an appropriate firmware. There are a lot of straight forward guides out there if you don't know how to do this properly (which might be how you bricked your phone in the first place).
I suggest you follow one such as this very closely. And, for the love of android, do not interrupt the flash process. This is the most likely way to make a $500 paperweight.
When all else fails, you may have to send it to samsung repair.

Sure. In my personal experience it works with USB when it has CE logo. But i will amend it to suit all circumstances.

Another good trick to get into Download Mode is to pull the battery, hold in the two volume buttons and reinsert the battery. This may need the phone to be connected to the computer though.
Spent a month thinking mines was well and truly bricked as nothing else worked, and tried this randomly one day after work.

Tried several times but could not replicate (note: my phone is not currently bricked). Tested with USB in and out. Cannot replicate the response. Perhaps you were just really lucky?
Maybe others might have some luck?
Thanks for the info although I know the repair options by heart already. A while ago I tried to brick my 'old' S1, to see if I could fix it again, just for the fun of it (I've done worse when bored). I assumed it would brick by pulling the battery while flashing but it just wouldn't work. I bet the S2 is just as tough. Not going to try it though (yet)...

The info here saved my wife's phone, and I expect out marriage as well - she had one of those SGSes where you can neither enter recovery nor download, and I stupidly assumed you could :/ ...and semi-bricked the phone during superoneclick root (stuck in a boootloop on the S logo).
Anyway, info from here allowed me to first restore the three keys combo, and then flash Darky's. Thanks, guys!

I have "semi bricked" my SGS a few times now, and I will agree that it is very hard to kill one of these things
Odin is a life saver - with that and a stock ROM I've always been able to start again after experimenting.
I downgraded my SM-G900F from Android 4.4.2(PDA G900FXXU1ANJ1, build date 1.10.2014) to Android 4.4.2(PDA G900FXXU1ANCE, build date 31.03.2014) with Odin. According to Odin everything went fine:

However, if I boot up the phone, I hear the Samsung bling, blue LED turns on for few seconds and after that the boot process seems to be looped as phone vibrates lightly with 10 second interval and both back and recents keys are lit. Screen is off during all this.
My initial idea was to factory-reset the phone(clear /data and /cache partitions), but if I power on the phone with power button while pushing volume up and home buttons, the phone just vibrates for a fraction of a second and that's it. It does not enter into recovery and looks like the phone is off.
When I try to enter into download mode(push power button while home and volume down buttons are pushed down), the phone behaves exactly like in case I simply push the power button which I already described above.
Just for information, if I connect the charger to phone, then the phone vibrates for a fraction of a second and around half a minute the red led is lit(indicates that the device is connected to a charger and it is charging).
Is there a way to unbrick phone if there is no access to recovery and download mode? Please let me know if any additional information is needed.
Try the following: remove the battery. Hold down the buttons and insert battery. Perhaps you have to ask a buddy to help... You should enter download mode....

I did that, but unfortunately phone just starts to vibrate for a fraction of second with 8 seconds interval as long as I keep the buttons down. There are no LED lights, no sound and no output to screen.
What I find especially weird is that accessing the download mode earlier, when I posted my initial post, the phone behaved exactly like in case I simply pushed the power button, i.e I heard the Samsung bling, blue LED turned on for few seconds and after that the boot process seemed to be looped as phone vibrated lightly with 10 second interval and both back and recents keys were lit. Or maybe I did not push all three buttons properly down when I tried to access the download mode during my initial post

Perhaps a USB Jig will do. I never had to try one... Search for "Jig Download Mode Samsung Galaxy" on amazon etc...

I made an USB jig myself and also bought this one and while both worked with my GT-I9100, they did not work with SM-G900F. If I inserted USB jig to SM-G900F, the phone simply vibrated once and that was it.
Is it possible to JTAG SM-G900F? Use some sort of flasher like ATF-box? Or if one can not access the download mode, then there is nothing to do other than sell the phone into parts?
I finally took my Galaxy S5 to Samsung service and they replaced the front panel In other words phone got the new screen and now it boots up just fine. How to explain this? I would have thought that motherboard, where the flash memory modules are, needs to be replaced.
