Please be kind to me as this is my first post on XDA although I have been reading and utilizing these forums for quite some time. If this question has already been addressed, please let me know. I have already searched the forum and was unable to find anything on the subject but perhaps I wasn't as diligent as I could have been.
I left my G1 on the roof of my car and it fell off and was run over by a car. I already ordered a new one which will arrive in two days (I do nightly nandroid backups so all is well in that department). I would, however, like to donate the crushed G1 to one of the developers on this site so that they can salvage it for parts. Believe it or not, I was actually able to boot to the recovery screen and do a wipe (Alt-W). Obviously I could not see this as the screen is crushed but it rebooted after I hit Back+Home so I am pretty certain that there are some valuable working parts for someone who knows what they are doing.
I have taken advantage of the ROMs on this forum for awhile (Kavana's WinMo 6.1) as well as How-To posts (Apps2SD, Rooting G1, Nandroid, MAM, etc.) and countless other posts to keep my phone in perfect working order, and would like to give at least a little back to the hard working developers here. I would like a moderator to assist me in getting the phone into the hands of the right developer. I am sure it has some value to someone. I am pretty certain that the motherboard is in working condition as well as the keyboard and various other parts (it still vibrates on boot). I don't know much about hardware as I am largely a developer and a user. I don't want to take it apart only to find out that I have ruined what was once a good part. Ebay was an option but I figure that I will actually get more value out of donating it since XDA is literally my lifeline and smartphones would just plain suck without this site.
Please reference the attached photos. Sorry they are not so great. They were taken on my Dash because I was too lazy to take out my good camera.
Post replies here and we can go from there.
Thanks,
Aaron

I believe you should donate it to one of the members working on finding the jtag pins so the people who were effected by the spl brick might have a second chance
Amazon sells them as well for about $7 + $3 for shipping.. OEM, safe..never had issues..
I am keeping the battery which still works. Now I have three! The battery door is crushed too. My goal is for the phone to better not just one person in need of parts but the community in general. If a developer can use this to help out the rest of us it will have been worth it. Like I have stated, I am not sure what use it will be but I am sure that someone out there can utilize it for the benefit of the rest of us.

A battery from HTC directly (after they first tried to deny my warranty status) is 37, shipping included.
As for a crushed device, I should try to find one in that condition since emulator will not run on my laptop. More or less the process goes make a program or update, open my sd card, load it, try it, improve it on the computer, delete the sd card copy, move the new one... very agravating.
Not to mention if you plug the device into the computer right, you can load your device AS the emulator (but I don't really want to do that to my "daily driver")
I would like to suggest a moment of silence to honor your G1.

You really did not look very hard, it is the 4th sticky down in the Tmo rom thread ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668347
Sorry to be harsh, but if you could not find a thread, that is that obvious, then why did you even attempt to flash the phone??
It does take some technical knowledge of the phone before you start screwing with them ..
You flashed a Stock HTC EU rom to your TMO US phone ....
If you had done ANY reading about your phone you would have found that the two are different phones , they look alike but they ARE different ...
Now Yes I am trying to piss you off, if you get mad you will go find the stuff yourself and learn it ...
We are here to help , the info is all over the site, but we cannot do it for you ...
So don't cry when people laugh at you for pulling a bonehead move ....

Hey you need to look back over the message I never said I couldn't find it on this site..but think you for the info.
Well send the phone back to HTC after 1 1/2 week got it back today but the phone is lock now...call them to let them know and they will give me the code have to check back in two days...but I have it back work is the big thing...
If you're wanting to make it stock again I'd suggest you get the the rom from the link provided. The IMEI code can be found on the back of the box that HD2 came in.

The phone hasn't even been out for a year and manufacturs warranty is a year. For HTC this is a simple fix as hooking up a jtag programmer and just flashing a new bootloader. 1st step is to walk into your tmo store you bought it from *****ing up a storm your lawyer dad just bought you that phone and he's pissed and wants them to replace it. Since you said you bought it from some unlock online place?????, weird you would buy the phone previously unlocked then come here to play with roms when you could of skipped all those steps and bought one on CL for $250 and paid $4 on ebay for an unlock code. Ok that being said option 2 if you bought it from a fly by night online company is to directly contact HTC begging them to flash a new bootloader for you and restore the phone to factory condition. Tell them you bought it from a store and make your own bs receipt to send in. 3rd option is to break the phone up and sell it off. The LCD and Digi will bring in $130 easy, case and battery will bring in $40-$50, buttons, mic, and radio chip, $50, then go buy a new one on CL for $250. Hope this helps you more hten the previous posts. But essesially they are right, you flashed a rom for a different phone to yours and now you phone thinks its a Euro HD2 and when it tries to fire up nothing connected to the right pins and it failing. If we had a pin out for the chip or epprom we may be able to fix this but I would imagine its going to require resoldering on a new epprom.

Hi everyone
First I would like to thank the people who are here that make these awesome developments, I enjoyed them until today when I was trying to find a better
radio rom. I am/was using tytung's NexusHD2 NAND. I was going threw the radio roms listed in one of the threads and tried "Leo_RADIO_15.29.50.07U_2.06.50.04"
I had to get up for a second and when i returned about 5 min. later the phone was unresponsive. When I try to turn it on i can feel the vibrator motor spin for a split second and noda...No light with the wall charger pluged in or USB.
If anyone has an idea to what I did or what can be done I would be ever so grateful. This is my first smart phone and was so happy to have android running on it. I NEED it back. I've only had it for about a week and am lost with out it already.
I want to thank everyone in advance willing to give me some help!
Thanks from The NooB
Chris
I was reading some more and I'm sure its bricked but the PC does see it when its plugged into the USB...but it doesn't have drivers for it and it didn't have drivers for it before this problem.
I guess the problem is I shouldn't have loaded a TMOUS rom?
I thought It would be "OK" as long as it was a ".50" and not a ".51"
Such a sad day...first my little Leopard gecko broke her leg and then flying ants invade my house and go into my saltwater aquarium and mess that all up and now my new favorite toy is a fishing weight or new target.......I'm afraid to go outside to even go to McD's cause i'm sure i'll die somehow!?!?!?!
Someone please tell me there's hope.
I should have just traded it in for the G2X when I was up the mall today...
But I thought this Nexus NAND was the best thing in the world only problem with this phone was that I had no reception in my house.
Which is why I was messing w/ the radio in the first place...
If anyone figures anything out I'll be in the corner crying..
Thanks again fellas..
If you boot up with the volume down button held down, does it go into bootloader (tri-color screen, not MAGLDR)?
And does your pc have ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center installed on it?
If you can get into bootloader, there is still hope...
Hey Huggs
Thanks for the the reply, No There is no bootloader screen, No nothing just a little blip from the vibrator motor for a tenth of a sec. when I try to just turn the power on, If I try to hold the Vol. key and power at the same time it wont do anything.
I did notice when I plug it into USB it try's to install drivers for a "QUALCOMM CDMA DEVICE" and after about 10min it starts to get warm near the bottom of the battery. I have windows vista so Windows Mobile Device is installed.
I left it go for about 4 hrs from 4am to am and then tried the battery again and again nothing, I'm pretty sure there's nothing I could do from USB.
Does anyone know if any JTAG will work or does it have to be the one I see people using, not the cheap Flea-BAY ones for $50?
also when using a JTAG do you have to have a special file or just the stock rom?
Or is there someone on here offering this service?
The phone never had reception in the house so I should be looking for other methods but this thing is like brand new and I would like to see it come alive.
THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!
Sorry dude but you have 100% bricked your phone. You have no excuse other then lazyness as this is a very well documented fact and warnings against flashing and incorrect radio.
If you had taken time to read things properly you wouldn't have made this mistake.
Your only option now is to send it away for JTAG repair so they can replace your bootloader.
I wouldn't say its because of laziness. I looked up that rom and found a thread where people were using it. It was a ".50" and not ".51" rom and that was all I knew that was uncompilable.
Instead of starting the name calling or your this and that, How about some constructive criticism and say well "that particular rom isn't compatible because of"
I stayed up for 3 days strait and been reading for over a week trying to learn about flashing and what not. could I have spent more time reading YES but I flashed roms about a 2 dozen times and everything was OK. Like I said I used it because of the fact it was a ".50" and thought it was safe to use and the fact I seen the tread that it came from HTC and was safe to use. Guess not!
Thanks for your .02cents theatheist though.
Can someone tell me which JTAG box I have to use?
or what does the box have to support? I see others using the "RIFF BOX"
but 150 for a box is alot for one time use. does the box just have to support an arm7?
Again Thank you for taking the time to read this
Hope every ones have a nice holiday weekend
Can someone tell me why this particular radio rom bricked this phone?
and if anyone could tell me which JTAG box I would have to use?
would a cheap one from the BAY work?
what does the JTAG box have to support?
I am reading but I don't understand some of it.
Thank you for your time and reading this.
As soon as i finish posting this I will send you a PM with a link to someone that offers a JTAG service for $50 USD and lives in US. He is very good too, I would not recommend him if he was not very experienced with JTAGing HD2s.
I do not know why that Radio version brickedc your HD2 cause from what I know only the 2.04.50.xx or the 2.05.50.xx radio versions or the only radio versions with 50s that will brick a TMOUS. Looks like I might have to add 2.06,50,xx radio versions to that list. The reason why these radios with 50swill brick a TMOUS is because these radio versions were used in the Test TOM/Test T-Mobile HD2s which were actually regular HD2s and not the TMOUS that is out now with the extra ROM and RAM. There for these radios were not designed to run on the TMOUS.
Oh and you are correct about the %1 radio versions to0, they were all made for the regular HD2s also.
Thank you so much for your time Sir.
and thanks for the explanation, I would really like to try and JTAG it myself
do you know if any of the cheap JTAG boxes on ebay that support the ARM7 would work? I will shoot that guy a PM.
I hope you have a Safe Holiday weekend!

To be honest i do not know if the "cheap boxes" you refer to will work or not. Maybe a link to the exact box you are referring to would help.
I do know this if you want to try it yourself that is cool, but be warned you have to have a small torques head srew driver, a HTC HD2 JTAG, a Riffbox with proper connection cables, a Omnei Repair Tool (ORT), the software to use the Riffbox, and it is best if you have a small power supply for the mainboard but you can use the power from the HD2 battery. Plus you have to completely remove the mainboard of your HD2 to JTAG it, which means you pretty much have to totally disassemble the HD2.
So not only is JTAGing a HD2 just for yourself expensive, but you need to have some skill to do it as well.
PM the guy I referred you to is a very good idea, best of luck with however you decide to JTAG your HD2.
Thanks for the response...Your very helpful.
I didn't know If links were permitted.? Here's the link's
1&2 are the same but different prices, They both support ARM7 architecture Which I thought the QSD8250 was?
#1. http://cgi.ebay.com/JLINK-J-LINK-V8...155?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aab620ae3
#2 http://cgi.ebay.com/JLINK-J-LINK-V8...551?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b1f2c6e7
There is a RIFF for $150 that I found but I cant really pull that off ATM.
There is others that support the ARM also. I've also found a no-solder connecter for about 15 bucks but I don't know if the pin-out is the same on the ribbon cable as the ORT-JTAG box(company that has the connecter). I'm sure I could change it around If i could find a schematic for the both of them(connecter and box)
I do have the tools to dismantle this and power station(I also mess with the Arduino platform and circuit building when I have time and recently have just dismantled my HTC TP2 for craps and giggles and have fixed multiple IPOD touches) I have been also ripping everything apart that had a battery/wire connected to it since I could remember. And try to get it back together before my old man would come home and would find his stereo taken apart...
The only thing that has me is the programming part itself like the actual file.
I don't know if it's something special for the box or just the stock rom?
I have watched some youtube on it but nothing really helpful.
I'm thinking I could do it and maybe help some others if I could nail it and do some more reading. My brothers into IT(servers) and a HTC nightly rommer so I was hoping he could help he and I was really hoping for some help from you good fellas here.
I want to thank you for the PM (very helpful) and the reply.
I will probably end up sending it to him because it's about the same price and I don't have funds for a new phone if I toast it, and hes a very nice guy. I just love messing with stuff.
Have a good one.
Chris
To be honest I do not know if the JTAG Emulators your linked would work or not. It looks as though it might could but I can not saw proof positive it would work.
Ii seems like you might would be able to do it yourself. You have a lot of the needed tools. I think the software for the Riff Box comes with the Riff Box but not sure as I have never JTAGed a device. The software allows you to reload or as the program calls it "res-erect "the SPL, you see JTAG restores the bootloader and that is it. Then you just flash a ROM of your choice to the HD2 and you are good to go. But I do recommend you flash a stock Windows Mobile ROM just for precautionary purposes.
Yes you want the no solder JTAG that makes it a lot easier as far as the set up process.
Hey guys so my EVO has been my daily driver since the day it came out, haven't had any problems and been loving it since.
Recently i purchased an extended battery to hopefully increase the amount of time i have to leave the phone charging. When i switched to the new battery i didn't notice much difference, even conditioned the battery perfectly as well.
So my next step i installed a SBC kernel to see if that may help, well the only thing i can think is that i got lazy and somehow left my phone on with the SBC kernel and now it has messed up the phone.
PROBLEM:
Phone will not accept charge via USB, OEM or Aftermarket charger. The only way for me to use my phone is to charge a battery with an external charger and then just keep switching them out.
So i believe this may be caused by using the SBC kernel but can't be sure (the phone is a bit old and beat up), but i want to revert everything back to stock so i can take it to the Sprint store and see if they will just swap me with another EVO so i don't have any phone downtime. I know worst case scenario i can order another one through insurance but i don't want to spend the $100 deductible if i don't have to.
What is the best way to revert completely back to stock and hopefully make it so at the Sprint store they can't tell that i used a custom rom and kernel?
I created a NAND backup of my current install and was just going to remove the sd card when i go to the Sprint store so i can at least have a backup.
I found these stock roms:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/cdma-htc-evo-4g-development/121961-sprint-htc-evo-4g-shipped-roms.html
But can't seem to find any stock kernels except this thread on XDA:
Stock Kernel - xda-developers
Anybody know where i can download the stock kernel?
I also found this thread on XDA with document from a Sprint forum saying that they will accept rooted phones?:
xda-developers - View Single Post - Sprint returns
So my question really comes down to, should i just worry about flashing the stock kernel and rom and then just bring it to a Sprint store?
Anybody got any feedback that has done this before or can point me in the right direction? I want to try and stop by the store today to see what we can get done, have a big week of work ahead of me and don't need any phone downtime.
I also found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812030
But is that still viable if they are accepting rooted phones and since it is a bit dated? Should i just print out that thread from a forum to bring to sprint store in case they give me problems?
Thanks guys!
I would revert to stock just in case, especially if they can link the kernel to your issue.
Question, you said it won't accept a charge, is that just for the aftermarket battery or the stock too?
Does the USB port function at all?
Because it sounds like it could just be a USB failure.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MUSAURP7
Take that file and rename it PC36IMG.zip and boot into your bootloader and approve the update.
That will return it to complete stock. [Kernel, radio, ROM etc]
If you used unrevoked you need to flash this .zip first.
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/forever/current/unrevoked-forever-son.zip
Thanks for the quick reply, it looks like it's USB all together, it will work for a minute or two then cut off, same thing with charging. Normally i just take my micro SD card and put it in a converter that hooks up to my laptop, now that i tried with USB i notice that doesn't work either.
Are there any fixes/troubleshooting guides for USB failure or is that something hardware related?

There was a thread in the development section some time ago but I think this is just a straight hardware issue.
Unroot just to protect yourself and take it in.
Be warned you will likely get a replacement with 2.3.3 (not rootable currently) if they can't repair the USB port.

Whenever i try to run that ZIP file i get this error:
"Main version is older! Update fail!"
Then it gives me options to reboot device, but now I can't even get the phone to boot up.

You have s-on so you're not rooted so you can take it into the store.

Ok but it goes straight to bootloader screen now and nothing else?
I tried flashing another ROM and that did not work, guessing because im no longer rooted, but all i can find for shipped roms are the RUU.
Do you know where i can get a stock rom to flash via recovery? I just dont want to take the phone into the store and them put another battery in it to see that it goes straight to the bootloader screen
Any ideas?

Oh you flashed the s-on .zip, sorry there's so much goddamn trolling around here that you can't help but get caught up in it.
Here's a list of the RUUs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060
The .zip are the one that you change to PC36IMG.zip
If you do one of the two top ones you will not be able to re-root the phone later.
[Might not matter if they are replacing it anyway]
Ok great, let me give it a try, thanks for all your help and quick replies!
Okay she's at the store now sitting in that long ass line of phones that need repaired...sometimes it's hard to explain to the sprint people you know what the problem probably is without giving away too much information.
Either way i took the forum printout with me just in case...
BUT they told me they only have (1) evo in stock (obviously besides the ones for sale) and there are 3 other evo's in front of me needing repair (software hopefully).
So as i sat there for a good 30 minutes waiting to give my phone to someone i looked through all the phones they have out now.
Been with Sprint for over 5 years now and the only real upgrade they gave me was the EVO from the TP2 because of how much i complained and complained and complained until they finally gave me one.
I don't have any problems with my EVO, but i use my phone for work and not having it for a day almost makes me feel paralyzed (should not have given old phones to friends, ugh).
What do you think the chances are of them just giving me another phone they have in stock? I'm not too concerned with what it is right now as i just need something to hold me over until i buy another one, but i've had my fun with my EVO and they have plenty of other phones that cost just about the same thing.
I know this question is hard to answer, but if they tell me they have to order the EVO you think if i complain enough they will just give me another phone instead? Maybe i can call Sprint before i head back to the store and see if they can work something out for me?
I'm not saying i want them to give me the phone that cost $200 after rebate as the EVO is now only 99, but if i pay the difference would they? Anybody had this work before?
Hopefully they can just repair my EVO or give me another one, i'm just trying to figure out the best way to do this without having to buy the damn phone at retail cost then return it when my EVO gets in, cut up all my credit cards years ago and thinking about it now just makes me want to cry since i really need one now...ugh..hellp!
Does anybody also know if their business plans have any type of SLA for phones? I would pay $15 a month instead of $8 just to know i can walk into a store and they would give me another of the same or something comparable just so i dont have to go without a phone??
Thanks, i'll let you know how it goes today!
The phone shows signs of corrosion, so they say i have to file an insurance claim. I told them to open it for me and show me where and the dude showed me this small spot on the other side of the board the camera is on that has like an outline of where there may have been some type of liquid?
Who knows, the phone hasn't been dropped in anything, hasn't been used the rain, but they said they are not willing to fix it because they found that spot. BS, that's not what caused my USB port not to work but obviously they don't care...grrrrrr!

Honestly, in a case like this, IF the phone truly has never been dropped in liquid I would call Sprint retentions and complain.
But please only do so IF it truly hasn't.

It really was never exposed to any type of water, only thing i can possibly think was maybe when it rained by i have the otterbox on it so i dont even see how that could be possible.
I did call them and complained a whole lot. They basically gave me a credit for next month and i just paid the deductible for insurance.
Anyways thanks a ton for your help man!

Do you know of a way to root the phone without having USB? Since i'm going to keep this phone i want to try and fix it myself now but USB doesn't work in order to root it again haha
So now that i'm going to keep the phone i guess i need to bring it back to a rootable state...and since i flashed the newest ROM im guessing i can't do that yet, eh?
No, android 2.3.3 is not rootable for the Evo yet
Only a few days later and here's a wonderful thread that worked perfectly for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218386
Rooting was even easier than before!
Now i can finally use Synergy which is very exciting...i'm also going to try that usb trick and see if i can fix my original EVO, maybe use it for dev or something.
To start I am new to the Samsung Focus and the Windows Phone 7 modding scene. The only background I have is with Android and the Samsung Fascinate.
I have been battling with this focus for a few days.
When I first got it it would not start up at all, only bootloop at the Samsung logo.
I then figured out that the phone would boot up if I removed the SD card. I know for a fact that was the SD card that came with and has been in the phone until now.
The phone when connected to pc or the wall would seem to not charge batteries. I have 3 working 1500 mAh batteries between my fascinate and this focus and the focus would not charge any of them.
Then I flashed MAGLDR, or at least tried to. It failed the first time during installation, and worked the second time.
I then attempted to flash cleanrom 3.10a. The installation program said it had completed sucessfully, but alas I only got a bootloop.
Then I flashed 1.3 stock rom sucessfully, but still a bootloop.
I just tried to flash the 1.4 stock rom to maybe kick it out of bootloop, and during the PDA flashing the phone got stuck at 13%. Unlucky number, eh?
After 15 or so minutes I decided to unplug the phone and pull the battery.
Uh-oh.
Now, with 2 different batteries, which I know are charged, the phone will not boot into the logo, download mode, or format mode. Pressing the power button does nothing. The screen remains black, and plugging the phone in after holding the download mode buttons does nothing, my pc does not recognize any usb device being plugged in.
Now I am completely stuck. Is it a paperweight or can I still save it?

Are you saying you have a Version 1.3 Focus and you flashed the Version 1.4 stock ROM? If you did, then yes, you now have a bricked Focus, and I don't believe anyone has found a way to repair that. NEVER flash ver 1.4 ROM to a ver 1.3 phone, or vice versa. Sorry about your troubles...

Yes I guess I did. There was no place that I could find that ever stated the difference between 1.3 and 1.4. I saw something online about being able to recover it with a JTAG service (sending it out to someone with a RIFF box and have them jtag it back to download mode) would that even be possible?

For starters, please don't take my previous message as scolding you for flashing the wrong ROM. Believe me, it happens to all of us at some point. I did it to an HD2 and bricked it.
I don't remember anyone recovering it with JTAG, but if there is a way, I'm sure that's it. I would suggest you follow up in the thread where you read that and see if anyone there can confirm they have done it successfully. Good luck, and again, I'm sorry about your phone.

I only found one website that seemed legitimate (he had youtube videos with 40,000 ish views) and honest. He explained that the JTAG method could fix dead-boot phones like mine, and if not then the price is refunded. It's only $40 for the service, but I'm a poor high school student. Once I get the money I will definitely follow up in this thread. :good:

Be cautious of those sites, and get references. There are many sites that "Say" they will do something and if it does not work, they will refund your money. But when you don't hear back, you've lost your money, and possibly phone. It's really hard to get a refund at that point.
There are MANY iPhone Unlock Sites that do nothing more than take your money, never to be heard from again. They look legitimate, but it's really hard to tell from a web site that can be built in an hour or so.

Duly noted. I will definitely do my research. Also I will probably go to a site that uses paypal so I can take advantage of their buyer protection policies.
I would consider getting a phone off of ebay with a cracked screen and strip out the main board, put it in your phone.
Make sure you flash with the correct firmware.
