I flashed the DI18 update back in November to get one the early Froyo builds. It's worked great for a while, but so many better roms and been released since. So I tried to reboot into bootloader mode tonight to use heimdall to flash the DK28 modem to get some newer roms. No dice. Using the keyboard 1 + power button just results in a normal boot. If I connect via adb and run "adb reboot-bootloader" or "adb reboot bootloader" the same thing happens, just a normal reboot, end up back at the normal home screen.
Anyone have any other ideas or is my phone borked now?
1 and power boots you into Download mode. To get to recovery you need to power up by holding 'down volume', 'camera', and 'power'. If that doesn't boot you into Clockwork, then you need to consider flashing with Odin, which you should probably do anyway since you need to flash to the DK28 modem as well

P.s. DI18 isn't froyo, that's still eclair

1 + power doesn't boot me into download mode unfortunately. I can boot into Clockwork just fine. Unfortunately, I'm running Linux so I can't use Odin easily. Either way I don't think it will be able to flash it from device/recovery mode.

When you did DI18 did you use Odin and one of the "Return to Stock" set of files? I think you are fine. Those return to stock files wipe out the clockwork recovery. Just try the "One Click" thread which is a sticky at the top of this forum. That should get you clockwork back. As said above, though, you'll probably want to Odin to DK28. You will need to be able to hold 1 and power up, but mine often fails on the first try or too. Good luck, and I think you're in fine shape, so don't worry. I haven't had a problem yet that Odin couldn't fix, and I've caused a lot of problems on my phone.
EDIT: Just saw your post that came in the same time as mine. I think your best bet is to borrow a friend's PC and Odin back to stock, then go from there.

Dude, the issue is not clockwork. It's his inability to get into download mode. So he cannot use heimdall or odin without getting into download mode.
To the OP why not try noobnl's zip to flash dk28 modem and stock dk28 rom with a couple extras. Maybe that will provide download mode for you.

Does someone have a link that item? I've seen lots of people reference this, but have yet to actually find a working link. The wiki doesn't seem to have anything about it, but I assume I've just missed it somewhere.
Nevermind, found the link, I think this is it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861341

Yes, that is the one. I would flash the modem first if I was you, it may not make a difference but it seems prudent to do so.
Please post questions in General Section.
Thanks everyone, I ended up rebooting to recovery mode and resetting everything. Re-installed clockwork rom manager and flashing this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861341 but it couldn't connect to the Sprint network afterwards. I flashed the modem update and it seems to be working.
For whatever reason, I still can't get into bootloader mode at all. 1 + power goes to normal boot up. adb reboot does the same thing.

Ok here's what happened. When I flashed Nero v4, I rebooted into recovery and flAshed 2.2 stock kernel and jk6 modem without knowing that voodoo has been enabled. So I can get into recovery, but only the stock recovery not clock work. Also I'm using Odin v1.7 and Odin v1.00. Also when I put my phone in download mode Odin does not recognize it. By the way it sometimes recognizes it on the samsung boot screen. So what's the problem with this thing? I am SCARED!!!!!!
make sure ur fone is in download mode then unplug it from the usb and restart odin, then plug it back in.. if you can get to stock recovery then try using adb or something to install the clockwork recovery update.zip to your phone
This may be something you have done, but just in case. Do you have kies installed? Or at the very least the drivers?
I have also had times (today as a matter of fact) where I put it in download mode but the PC didnt make the eject/connect noise. I had to restart the phone again and put it in download mode again. (if you only unplug-plug in it may work, but its 50/50 chance itl just freak out)
I keep a copy of kies on my SDcard just for situations like today.
Ok seeing as I had this problem a few weeks ago ill just share my solution, in the case of windows 7. If you have windows 7 right click on odin and click compatability, then roll it back to windows xp sp 3. Next run odin in administrator mode. Next, when you power down your phone, connect the usb cable first, then quickly hold volume up and down, and don't release them. don't worry if it doesn't connect, because I usually have to do this 4or 5 times. Run your pit and ROM and click start, and its my experience that letting go of volume up and down will disconnect odin. I hope this was helpful just trying to be a productive member of the community.
Odin was able to find my vibrant, but when i press "start" the process gets stuck on "analyzing files..." and nothing happens. By the way, I'm trying to go back to stock ji6 from Axura. I'm new at this. I was able to root my vibrant and get Axura on it, but i need to do a warranty exchange on my phone, so have to go back to stock because I don't think they will cover it otherwise. If there is an easier way to go back to Android 2.1 ji6, please let me know. So far Odin is not processing it...please help
I was had similar problems as well and it turned out fine. See this link at reply #3 (mine). The final issue for me to overcome was to make sure I had the proper .tar and .pit files as well as the updated samsung drivers. I include a link to a file called all_in_one that should be helpful.

I just updated my wife's phone to DL09 by pushing it via Odin. I then successfully completed the one click root, and was in the process of pushing clockwork mod to the phone via Odin when the screen on the phone went blank. Now the only thing I get i a black screen with a phone, a computer, and an orange triangle with an exclamation point and dotted lines between them. Any ideas?

Have you tried the manual method to get to download mode?
Pull the battery, connect usb while pushing the volume down button.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
That seemed to work. Pushing the DL09 again via Odin now. Thanks for the tip, Steeler!
That is the Odin Failed screen. The only remedy is to flash over whatever you messed up in Odin.
There are a few ways to get into download mode. First, you will want to try removing the battery, and holding down the volume down button while plugging the USB into a computer.
If you can't get that to happen, look into wiring up the usb cable with a resistor to make a little rig to force download mode.
If you cannot manage download mode (or potentially recovery mode), you are out of options.
EDIT: looks like steeper beat me to it.
Swyped w/ XDA App. When in doubt, mumble.
Up and running! Again, thanks for the timely responses and handy tip!
I have soft bricked my fascinate. I can get into clock recovery red. I use a mac, my USB is not in debug mode, I tried using Odin on a PC but could not find phone. Cant ADB into phone on mac receive "Error:device not found" I have looked everywhere all day and yesterday but looks like im screwed. Can i not just get a update.zip Voodoo kernel? I did a wipe before I hit restore. I do see the restore files but on Clockwork but get error also. Any help please?
Maybe someone can confirm whether it is possible to adb from download or recovery mode.
However, you are not hosed so long as you can get into recovery mode. You can likely copy what you need into your sd card. Fortunately, I have never had to do that because I can always find the files I need to restore in the clockworkmod/ folder of my sdcard. I suggest looking around in there for the kernel patch you need - just be mindful of your lag fix

How does one get into custom recovery mode for the Sprint Galaxy tab?
I can't Clockwork into recovery, it takes me directly into the Android Stock recovery, so...basically, I've no idea how to flash a ROM on this.
Any help?

You do not use recovery to flash ROMs on the Tab. You use heimdall from your desktop. Samsung devices are different from most other Android devices. You can use Clockworkmod to do backups and restores. If you have Clockworkmod installed on your Tab, the only way to get to it is through software on your system. Trying to boot to it only takes you to the stock recovery.
EDIT: You can flash ROMs from CWM. See below posts.
I'm confused, this thread mentions clockwork a couple of times (for example, the thread that explains how to get EXT4 on your tab says that you must press up+power to get into Clockwork in order to flash it).
All I need is a simple guide from anyone here or a pointer to where I can get clockwork. I've used Odin before, but not Heimdall, so I don't know how I'd go about installing a ROM that way.
This is the thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275031)
I beg to differ. I'm running ICS 4.0.3 on my Sprint Galaxy Tab and flashed it using CWM 5.0.2.7. I used heimdall to flash CWM, and after that I can flash roms all day long from recovery. Check over at rootzwiki, everything you need is detailed over there.

when i try to boot into recovery i get the blue lettering in the top left and it just sits there i have let it sit for sometime like that with no change.
this is not my first go around with flashing android devices so please even give me Dev only options if that is what you think will fix it. i feel bad because he just bought this phone 2 weeks ago and cant use it. not sure what the other guy that tried to root it did and neither does he so i am shooting in the dark so any help would be great.
I have tried flashing the stock Odin package with no luck.
Also tried Kies Firmware upgrade with no luck
Most of the custom recovery for this phone from what i read are not flashed threw odin anymore, but if i am wrong please link me and i will give it a shot.
Dose anyone have any ideas someone told me to use the .PIT file and re-partition the device and reflash the stock odin package. but i have had no luck locating the .pit file for the I337 galaxy S4 could anyone grab it from there phone and upload it for me or any ideas on how i could possibly fix this issue.
Thanks in advance
Since you already tried ODIN, why don't you try KIES.

In addition to letting go of the power button after the vibrate, here are a couple of other things that appear to have worked for other forum members. I didn't discover any of these fixes, I just did a lot of reading and saw where others have had similar problems and found ways to solve them. That is what makes the XDA community great:
Uppercuticus said:
I've had this happen to me several times while playing around with flashing. Basically (without fail in my experience), hold power+volume up+home as you'd normally do until you see the booting recovery message and let go. It will do one of two things - boot into recovery- or - restart and vibrate-. If it restarts and vibrates, immediately hold power+volume up+home until the booting recovery message pops up again and let go. It should then boot into recovery and you shouldn't have trouble in subsequent attempts.
It took me a while to figure this out and I actually thought I had permanently bricked my phone as the phone wouldn't boot and I couldn't get into recovery. Hope this helps.

After using ODIN, make sure to do a software (factory reset) to get rid of any data and settings that stayed behind. The firmware packages that we have for Odin, do not wipe everything on their own.

here are all the details;
Rooted ATT Galaxy S4 MK2 with Busybox. all went well until I tried to flash and boot into recovery. Installed ClockworkMod Recovery, tried to reboot into recovery...permission error. Installed Team Win Recovery, same problem.
investigated... Superuser.apk for some reason is NOT present in app directory. hmm. checked for root, have root.
installed ClockworkMod Superuser from play store... asks to update superuser... fails with signature error.
There seems to be no way to flash this phone. I have the original backup I made with ClockworkMod but restore fails with signature error.
The phone works fine, has root but I am concerned I will not be able to update to 4.4 when it's available. I am also NOT able to flash any alternative ROM. frustrating.
I see there are relatives to this issue all over xda but as far as I can tell after a weekend of trying is there's NO WAY to boot into recovery with write permissions being allowed.
I have an AT&T galaxy s4 that will not boot up. I tried to flash the ROM and install SlimBean 4.2.2 build 6. after it was installed and everything, the screen went black and will not show anything. It wont go into recovery mode and vibrates every 5 seconds whenever i power it on. i tried to flash the stock rom using odin, but that didnt work either. somebody please help!

If you can go to download mode you can Odin back to stock. There's tons of Odin guides. I can't link because I'm on mobile but I'm sure you can search. As long as you have download mode youre not bricked and all is fine. Just be sure to have latest Samsung drivers installed for your PC.

It sounds like you tried to flash a ROM or Kernel that is not intended for the AT&T S4 and bricked your phone (screwed up your partitions). If so, you might want to look into JTag repair services. There is a PIT file available for the 16GB version of the phone but I wouldn't touch it if you don't know what you are doing.
Odin is working fine, and whenever i try to flash it back to stock, odin says that it passed, everythings good, etc. But then when phone reboots, it just stays at that blank screen and keeps vibrating.
And could you refer me to a guide or something on PIT files or JTAG services, please?
Exactly what he did, looks as if he flashed the incorrect kernel.
Odin is the answer.

pull your battery and wait a few seconds. place the battery back in and immediately press the recovery button combo (vol up + home + power. release just the power button when the device vibrates and you see the blue script in the top left corner).
if this gets you into recovery, wipe data and cache. reboot.
In Odin are you using the phone option or the pda option?
Please make sure you follow the Odin instructions exactly to the T.

I'm having the exact same problem, seems like I did something similar (i.e. install the wrong kernel). Any help/assistance would greatly be appreciated

You guys need to start providing links to exactly what you flashed. How is anyone supposed to know if it really was a "wrong kernel" or if it was a seemingly correct kernel that people should stay away from?
Edit: sorry, not you HeartAttack; I know you did.

i did earlier. i tried to flash slimbean on to mine (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292474) which is under the AT&T GS4 section, so i thought it wouldve been compatible. i was obviously wrong.
So this is what happened to me:
I flashed the foxhound rom (link) using CWM, (Wipe data, clear cache, & clear delvik cache. It installed perfectly, but because this is not an AT&T rom, I was having wifi issues.
Rather rewiping the data, clearing all caches and reinstalling the rom and then the ktweaker kernel, I just installed the ktweaker kernel (link) that I got off from galaxys4root.com.
This was my first time using this kernel with this rom. Since it was an AOSP rom I uses this kernel because it was also AOSP.
So now I'm stuck in this cycle where my phone vibrates every 3 seconds on a blank screen. I can enter download mode and I have used odin to flash original stock firmware, but I come back to this same issue every time. As OP mentioned, I am also not able to access CWM recovery after holding down keys to enter recovery.
NOTE: I believe every time the phone vibrates (every 3 seconds), the phone itself is rebooting. Therefore I don't have enough time enter recovery.
