[Q] where is my official JJ3 -> JJ7 upgrade? - Galaxy Tab General

My current device info:
GT-P1000
PDA:JJ3
PHONE:JID
CSC:JJ2
Unbranded, stock firmware, rooted, but then unrooted. Bought in Norway.
Why can't I get JJ7 from samsung kies? It says I already have the latest version installed. There is supposed to be an upgrade for my device, right? Or is it only for UK tabs??
I can't wait to get the browser fixed, but I'm too scared to install JMC/D after those scary bootloaders jumped out from under the bed.

I really didn't have a clue either why kies won't pass the jk7 update through. though you're safe flashing at least jm6 following exactly the guide in the dev topic, this fw version won't pop them bootloaders up, and will fix most of your issues. If you're uncertain of flashing outside of kies, don't do it, hang around for a while on jj3 as samsung is planning a official update somewhere near coming weeks, as with the sgs after completing the roll out of the sns

Thank you for your reply.
But others already got this way back in november(?!) Did samsung pull it for some reason? Or is it all just bull? All I can find is a thread here on xda and another over at android forums mentioning the jj7.

Really wanna know too, i am in Denmark and is allso on jj3

In Belgium we're also still on jj3 and no updates available in kies.
On my Galaxy S at least I could change the country code to UK Generic (thanks to the registry hack) to get the update faster :-D

Bought mine in Norway too, still waiting for JJ7. One question, if you could please help me out: Can you connect your tab to Kies? Assuming you got the newest version of Kies. I can't, and I can't for the life of me fix it. Would be pretty annoyed if Samsung release a FW-update, and not being able to apply it cause of Kies-issues.
Edit: I can mount mass storage, and get access to it through USB, but I just can't get Kies to recognise the tab. It's no problem with my SGS.

Here in the UK the tabs from carphone warehouse (big phone retailer) have been updated but the Tesco (big supermarket) ones haven't

I picked up a tab from Carphone Warehouse last night, after wrestling with Kies, it finally connected and updated to FROYO.XWJJ7

Same here on 3ireland which is supplied by 3uk. I'm on jj3 detected by kies but it says latest software installed.

Maybe you should verify your settings

I set mine to «ask when conected»

Guys, AFAIK it depends on the pre-installed Sales Code on your Tab. If you have a JJ3 CPW Tab (UK Carphone Warehouse) you will be offered JJ7 through Kies, if not it seems you won't. There are ways to fake the Sales Code in Kies if you want to, look in the Galaxy S forums for details or flash the ROM of your choice (carefully) with Odin or Hemidal..!
If you flash with Odin or Hemidal I recommending flashing the modem.bin from your original provider version back to give best phone/modem performance unless you know that the modem you flashed to is suitable for your country conditions.

Gingerbread on Orange

Is the gingerbread update available yet, on Orange? I tried checking on kies a few days ago and it said I have the latest version, but I have froyo 2.2.1
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
In a word, no. Samsung withdrew the Gingerbread updates due to some fault or whatever so the only ones available are the JV1, JVK, JVB and JVA Roms which are floating around at the moment but these are primarily for unlocked devices so I don't know what effect they may have on your phone if its locked to Orange
So when will we get it?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Why don't you ask Orange?
So when will we get it?
Very simple answer
After Samsung release it and Orange customise or sodomize it and Orange upload it to the Kies server .
More complicated answer Ask Samsung .
jje
It will be weeks after the stock unmolested firmware is re-released. Im on orange too and debranded mine because I got bored waiting for Oranges 2.2. It is still sim locked though (hasnt caused any problems)If you decide to try this make sure youre 3 button download/recovery is working though-mine wasnt originally-but is now thanks to the good peeps here.
If you look in the forums you will find a free network unlock solution too.
After flashing all the Gingerbread roms though I find I keep returning to Darky's 9.5 (Froyo based).
If you do decide to de-brand & network unlock you should also consider changing you CSC to XEU too that way kies will check for the official European i9000 rom instead of a network branded version.
You can always re-flash back to a carrier rom should you want to though.
You can always re-flash back to a carrier rom should you want to though
But where would you get one from ?.
That seems to be a problem 99% do not save carrier rom and few are available elsewhere .

Just like me I to hunt around for "t-mobile galaxy s odin" and sure enough google provided me with a link to a t-mobile 2.2.1 rom flashable via odin, failing that you could always use fwspoof to emulate a older carrier from and have kies re-install the carrier update.
Just thought you might have a secret stock .
jje
Orange delayed and delayed 2.2 for the SGS, it was supposed to come out in November last year and ended up being January for the official release. This was months and months after the official unlocked versions came out, so I wouldn't hold your breath on it being a quick release.
That said 2.2.1 seemed to come out relatively quickly compared to 2.2
Fingers crossed they get bored modding all these releases with their own crap and have it as downloads from the market...as it should be.
I may have missed it in the Orange Terms and conditions, but a while a go when I read through them, I couldn't spot anything about modding phones making warranties being void (although I'd double check), so you could always try a custom ROM if you can't wait.
Logicalstep
I hooked up my galaxy S to Kies yesterday morning and was offered 2.3.3 from Orange, Installed it and all went well ... until I tried using the 3G instead of wireless, I cant access 3G at all. anyone else having this issue?

get yourself the stock orange rom from your country, to have it in case of warranty

Just root your phone, make a Nandroid-backup (CWM-backup), save this backup on your PC and then you can flash a custom-ROM.

Don't suppose you could explain how to get hold of a stock rom for a branded phone? I'd like a stock OrangeUK rom with all the bloatware and stuff just in case I need to send it for repair.

No need for explanation anymore I used checkfusdownloader to download the froyo update for orange uk. The available gingerbread update is fubar from what I've been reading in the web.

Re-Roll out of Gingerbread

Anyone in Ireland get the Gingerbread update since its re-roll out on Samsung Kies??
Checking everyday but all I get is you have the latest firmware
Love the phone but pretty pissed off at Samsung with how slow they are to update the phones.
here we are stuck with 2.1 man, so you should consider yourself lucky
really....
its not a re rolout - they use old builds with some branding and new modems
at least that is what i can say about todays uk o2 ginge
that is jvh_jv3_jv2.tar so
good old JVH base (vodaphone had JV9)
JV3 csc i guess thats for uk o2 (vodaphones was JV5)
and some new JV2 modem in opposite to vodaphoneuk JV3
but asian ones seems to be made out of fresher build

There roll-outs are very poor.

Well from my limited knowledge, the carrier takes the update and adds their own stuff to the update. The unbranded updates from samsung come out pretty fast.
If it's your carrier you're waiting on, maybe theyre just taking their time
While I did get my phone from the carrier it's not branded. I have put other carrier sims in it and it worked fine. Think they forgot to brand my on.
Anyway with that in mind, it must be unbranded.
Just wish they would a get a move on.

10.1 3G DBT OTA updates

Since my Tab is no longer syncing with Kies anymore, and I'am no longer willing to reinstall Kies everytime I reboot my laptop( i've played that with my Sgs long enough-ok one week before discovering odin), I would like to know if there's a possibility of getting an OTA firmware update for a unbranded DBT tab or do I have to flash them the odin way and loose warranty? (no need to root my tab at the time and I'am getting sick flashing and rooting my sgs twice a month) never ever receiven an OTA update for any of my galaxy devices so I'am actualy asking if the tab updates are going to be distributed OTA or only via Kies.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
As far as i know there hasn't been a OTA update for the european 3G device, so i'm not waiting anymore. I flash updates with Odin. If you flash only official firmware, i don't see how this breaks your warranty.
Ok thanks for the info, so its back to odin for one more device. At least that way i can' thing of a single reason not to root. Guess with an DBT Tab, even outside Germany we won't get any support anyway after the Apple fiasco. So DBT sales code bye bye, EUR here I come flashin' again.

Same version over here. Sameone as bought. Haven't found a newer one yet. Are you able to connect with Kies or over Kies Air? Gettin always no device found. Had the same problem with my sgs with froyo, after an upgrade everything worked. My SGS is connecting without a problem.

I'm on stock currently myself. You don't need Odin for custom ROMs, there's plenty of stock already on samfirmware.com.
Kies already bricked my i9000m twice using Samsung official firmware. Samsung's response was that the firmware wasn't available for my area yet. I told them that Kies gave me the green light, and their response was still the FW wasn't approved yet. That was a PITA to get resolved.
Samfirmware.com has firmwares (including stock) that many have tried, and Odin takes the tedious waiting out too. Between waiting and 2 bricked phones from Kies, I am done with Kies forever!...

Hmm, Samfirmwares may be stock but not necessarily official releases. I don't trust Kies although I've never had a really bad experience using it. I just want OTA updates like I used to have on my Nokia 4 years ago!

There's a few that are 100% official. The rest are stock waiting for carriers to chop them up.
Honestly the only thing that you are waiting for is carrier bloatware.
BTW I used to be a Nokia e71/72 user myself...

Luckily mine is carrier-free. Discerning the "final official" roms and installing them whilst retaining my current set up is what concerns me. Like I said, petitioning for OTA updates.
It would be best to work like google chrome browser auto update. It downloads the update, and next time you start it it installs. No questions asked... no time wasted... Always the newest firmware. OTA of course. It could work on android. Downloads update, waits for restart. When restarted if battery >60% installs. Piece of cake...

Lol
Samfireware.com does carry stock Samsung roms (it is not an official Samsung site) and they aren't official releases.
I have the 2.3.5 update from there and it is noticably quicker that the official 2.3.3. That being said kies detects the new version and says that its not official and that the upgrade service is not available for non-official versions. If samsung release an official update I might flash back to and older version then update through kies if I really had to which is no drama.

The instructions were posted just after the last official update in August. Hopefully a sign that OTA is on the way.

Guys, i need some help/tips about updating my Firmware. I have a samsumsung GT-I9000 with Android 2.2 (Froyo). I know that there is a newer version (2.3 or so).
I downloaded Samsung Kies but on the general information screen it doesn´t give me the option to update the firmware version, it is only showing me my firmware version (not the latest version available, neither the chance of updaiting it).
I have tryed to install the Kies in differents PCs and I had the same issue.
My GF has a Samsung 5500 (Samsung Galaxy Europe) with Android 2.1, and we had the same problem trying to (or not having the chance to) update the firmware.
My first option is to try with Kies as it is an official source (I don´t want to have troubles with the warranty), but if it is not possible let me know any other way to update our phones.
I will really appreciate any help.
Cheers,
It sounds as if your SGS is tied to a carrier, in which case you are dependent on them for their version of the upgrade.
I would contact them first. If you get no joy there your only option is to "unlock" the phone from that carrier, thus enabling Kies to give you the generic upgrade.
This is what I did. I was locked to o2, here in the UK. Upon unlocking I get the latest generic update via Kies as soon as it becomes available, which is months before o2.

Its an unlocked phone from p4u unbranded and I'm on three, but theres no sim in the phone when I've connected. I've not downloaded it yet its still plugged in an showing. I didn't really want to be first trying it because my phone has no problems and I don't want to lose the 5x4 icon setup unless I'm forced too and I don't know whether this will do that to my phone. By the way its never been upgraded yet from its original rom of KE7 KE4 KD1.
Firstly Kies wont remove any of your apps/settings, if you have rooted the phone you will lose this. It sounds like you are being offered the upgrade to 2.3.4 which has been out a while. 2.3.5 is the one we are waiting on which is a different KI4.
Is there anyway I can check for you without going through with the full upgrade, the other day I handled a new galaxy w in p4u and that had 2.3.5 in it I took a photo of it, every write up and comment on that phone says 2.3.3. Lets hope things have moved on, but as I said in op didn't really want to try it first.
See attached
Thank you. I've been reading about the Kl4 in the discussion thread thats not officially out , I don't supposed you would care to comment on whether its worth my upgrading, whats the balance of losses and gains you find in this release as apposed to the one I've got.
It's up to you whether you want to upgrade the fw, if you're on 2.3.3 I would do it, we could new waiting a while for Samsung to release 2.3.5 on kies for unbranded phones.
