Alright I posted this before in the development section and got laughed at, so ill try here.
Pretty much what I want in a ROM is the ability to create a new soft hey in-between the menu and back soft buttons. It would be invisible. And you could map this to whatever you wanted. What I would I would want to map or too is the launcher section part of Go Launcher. I was wondering what you guys think of this idea and if you'd want it implemented. I'm not a Dev so someone else would have to do it.

A soft key is still hardware. You would have to physically modify the phone to install it.
I don't think so.. I could be wrong but that's part of the touch screen. Use any multi touch tester and you'll see.

I come from the Samsung Vibrant Dev area. A friend of mine has a Droid X and all he does is flash Roms, doesn't know much about them. His phone does a TV like on/off animation when the screen goes on and off. What is that? Where is it located/ implemented. any info on it would be great. As search is down right now i cant search it. I am interested in possible porting it.
The liberty tool box has a bunch of different startup animations to choose from, I'm not sure if the one your looking for is in it but it does have the option to add ones from your SD card. Its meant to run on the x with the liberty rom but if you can port it then it might be a good place to start.
Edit:ah just reread your post you're looking for when it goes to sleep, sorry don't know that one. Sounds cool I'll have to look out for it.

Unless his rom is built on 2.3 I don't think it is. Since that power off tv animation is part of 2.3 and 2.3 only good luck.
I think you might be right but I thought it was a feature he was planning on adding. I did some searching and did find that the ultimate Droid has the feature, here's the link...
http://www.theultimatedroid.com/forum/index.php?/files/file/68-the-ultimate-droid-300-beta/
Edit: and just because its a feature of 2.3 doesn't mean its impossible to port it.

The title should say it all. Google searching has found me nothing on this, so I don't know if its ever been brought up.
Seeing as how we have the luxury of having a hardware keyboard, I was wondering if anybody knew how to modify clockworkmod so that we could use those buttons instead of the normal volume up/down, power, and camera buttons to navigate the recovery menu (after so much flashing, my camera button has begun to stick slightly; save my camera button!).
If you open the keyboard and hold your phone in portrait orientation, the most logical combination to me would be:
Left arrow - scroll up
Right arrow - scroll down
Search button - return to previous menu
Home button - select
I would try to do this myself, but looking at the one-click cwm 3 folder, I don't even know which file would need to be torn apart to do this, nor what types of files they are (so what program to use to extract their contents?)...
If anyone with any knowledge wants to provide some guidance, or if anyone is feeling froggy enough to try this themselves, it would be greatly appreciated

This doesn't answer your question per se, but this problem with using the volume keys will soon be somewhat moot. I don't have the link at the moment, but some of the Bonsai Team have been running an add in that gets rid of the secondary confirmation.

Hmmm...that is interesting, but I don't know much I would actually like that...i can get lazy with flashing sometimes, and I've caught myself on more than one occasion having selected the wrong thing...
But thanks for the info.
Bump 10 char...any takers?

It is possible to so that. It would mean someone would have to compile a new recovery and modifying the keymap to use the keyboard along with the keymap that it uses now. It's not hard just a pita.

Yeh I knew those would be the steps, simple, but a tedious affair. If more people vote for this I'm sure someone will take it on. Or give me some guidance lol.
So....
Save your camera buttons!
Vote to have this mod develeoped!
Lol

FWIW, I don't mind the extra confirmation, but the implementation is ridiculously excessive. A simple two-entry menu confirm/cancel would be plenty sufficient.

Hi,
My phone is self waking up when I logo the screen all the time. I think it got some water in it, ( something small, because the rest is all working good ) .
So, I would like to know if thete is some sort of sensor or something inside the phone that makes it wake up on lock screen ....
Thanks
Daniel

Wrong section.
is your phone rooted? if it is then you need to fix persmissions on the recovery menu.

Waste of a post, if that's all you were gonna say why post anything at all.
Anyways, to answer the OP, are you running a custom ROM by any chance? Also only thing I can think of is the sensor waking up the phone... But that can't be it. If you're on stock ROM then go ahead and do a factory reset and see if problem still persists.
Hi,
Sorry. I was on custom Rom ( fusion 118) . I did load my stock back up Rom and same thing happens.
I know the only way u can wake up the phone when it has the screen locked is with the power button and the action button. I thought that the buttons could he stuck cause of some water, but no, they don't do any action whrj I'm running any application. So, I believe that the phone has to has some of sensor that activates the screen whn u hit power or action key....
Any idea ?

My gfs inspire 4g does this too. We don't know wtf to make of it. She is all stock and nonrooted.

Ok, I really am not liking Sense UI anymore. I don't really like MIUI or Vanilla Gingerbread. I would like to know where to begin in creating my own custom user interface to run over Gingerbread. Or perhaps a simpler task would be porting over other user interfaces from Motorola and Samsung to run over Gingerbread.

Why not use go launcher or adw or launcher pro. They will replace sense...

Hmm, never thought about that. Nice idea. But I guess my main purpose in making this was to see if anyone has (and can help me) created my own custom UI. It'd be nice I guess.

First you would need to learn Java and C+ coding. Next I would learn Linux as android is Linux and you will need the knowledge to work on the UI.
Have a good look through the 'post your homescreen' thread. There's a wealth of inspiration in there. Have a look in the widget thread too.
Unless i'm wrong it's not the UI that you want to change as such, but what we'd call a Layout. For all intents and purposes it's the same thing. but UI is software whereas layout is graphical. End result being you want homescreens that look nice right?
Good Launcher+Good Widgets+Wallaper+Imagination and you'd be surprised how good you can make your device look. Some of what i see in the Homescreen thread are works of art!

Well, What I really want to do is make my own thing. I mean a couple of starter ideas,
- 6 basic home screens (in a cube shape) you can change when slid vertically or horizontally
- 2-4 (based on how many you want) "tabs" on the side of choice that can hold apps, home screens would mainly be for widgets, can also be used for apps though.
I don't know, Its just ideas I wanted to be able to put into my own UI. I think I may get into coding to make my own UI.
Check out an open source launcher, it will give you an idea of how to do crap, beyond whatever is in the API docs. I think ADW is open sourced.

I would start with flashing a non sense ROM. Thus you'll get rid of sense bloat and will get a stock standard launcher or any other customizable launcher. Just look through available Roms. Personally I'd recommend CM 7.

Since this is going to be my first phone with on screen buttons which I consider a stupid idea I am wondering what can we go with this back bar embeded at the bottom of the screen, Can we make it smaller?, will it be removed in games? Can we add extra buttons or ever widgets to it? Maybe ever make it pages so when you swipe over it it will reveal a rss feed or something. Any ideas on what can be done to make it helpful rather than a hinderance

Once custom roms start rolling out you will be able to change the DPI of the bar.
AOKP i expect will support this feature as they do in current JB Roms
Why don't you like them? I think they're great.
