Hi guys,
I've been using the forum for a year or so now and it's great!
I'm now the proud owner of an HD2 from O2 UK and I've already updated the ROM to version 1.72.206.3, which I believe is the latest, but what are the differences between this O2 ROM and the unbranded ROM?
I've done a search and can't seem to find anything to answer this question.
Hope somebody can help.
thanks
The unbranded ROM?
Which ROM? Do you mean the original o2 1.43 ROM? Not much difference that you would recognise. The volume slider in WMP renders correctly in 1.72 whereas in 1.43 it looked like a poo stain in a pair of underpants. Apart from that forget it. I just includes all of the camera, SMS and other hotfixes which had been released between the two versions.
Do you mean cooked ROMs you can download from XDA? The world of difference. Select a ROM with the features you want from the ROM section and flash it as per the instructions given.
Maybe over the next year you will read some of the posts. Maybe even learn a thing or two
if you do in fact mean cooked roms. then alot.
for me (an energy user) the phone no longer crashes every day. i can install all the apps i want and not hit the memory usage on the phone. The phone runs alot faster, smoother has better apps pre-installed and i just like it more?
After having read almost all threads from the beginning it seems that ALL branded HD2s are buggy to excess ..............
I use an unbranded one, and while once in a while I had some probs with 1.43 since 1.48 it runs as smooth as liquid nitrogene.
I have also installed SKTools and Pocket Mechanic, LeoCPUSpeed V.3.0, CHT 1.6 (the ultimate stable version till now), ChainfireĀ“s 3D-driver and before any mod or installed app I do a backup. In case a new app causes probs I just revert to sit as before.
No single hardreset necessary till now since I unpacked it.
Honestly: I was heavily tried to flash a cooked ROM once, but I refrain from THAT as soon as I read in the specific threads about the many problems some of the users then have with lock-ups, freezes, bricking. And branded HD2s ARE cooked ROMS !
CHT, Franwella, Jaguaralani, Smaberg, MooNah and the many others (sorry for not remembering ALL names, but ALL are geniousses) offer such nice little mods that there is no need FOR ME to experiment with cooked ROMS.
Also on Freewarepocketpc - when is new app is issued - as soon as I read "does not work on HD2" I abstain from installing till a stable version is issued.
difference between o2 rom and unbranded rom
hi
in o2 rom wifi router is missing
Hi all,
Thanks for all the input so far.
Previous to having the HD2 I had an X1 which I flashed with various cooked ROM's successfully and it worked quite well.
Really, I just need to know what is missing on the O2 1.72 ROM that is on the equivalent stock ROM which I assume is 1.48 and would I benefit from flashing a stock ROM to the device.
Would it let me do this with no problems and would it affect the warranty, if it needed reapair, if I did flash it with a stock ROM or would I have to go back to the O2 ROM?
I managed to install FROYO.XWJPB ROM on my Vibrant. It is I9000 European ROM that consists much locales. Much more than any of Vibrant's ROMs.
It runs very smooth and looks good. I installed JK2 modem and kernel over it to make phone, sound and softkeys work properly.
Now I have the only one little problem - GPS doesn't work like it didn't worked on Eugen's ROM untill JK2 ROM was released. So my idea is to take some drivers or system files from JK2 and to repair GPS on this ROM like Eugen did it some time ago. We would have got good ROM with localization for all countries.
I'm not experienced in ROM development yet, so I need some advice or help. I tried to copy some libraries from JK2 (\system\lib\libgps.so, libsecgps.so, libclientgps.so) and GPS-related files (system\bin\agpsd and configs: system\etc\gps.conf) using Root Explorer. But it didn't helped. GPS doesn't listen to sattelites signals (listening icon doesn't even appear).
Did you try the new Samsung GPS Restore app from the market?
Maybe try pulling /system/app/LbsTestMode from macnut r12 and pushing it to /system/app/ on the ROM your working with?
can you post a link

I was actually thinking of trying this with Eugene's JPM Froyo build.

It says It doesn't works with I9000.
bbm21, I9000XWJPB - this pack contains phone and CSC files also, but I recommend not to flash a Phone and stay at JK2. CSC is Russian but you can change locale after install.
I9000XWJPA - also a good European ROM but without Russian APN and so on.
I9000XWJP5 - Italian
I9000JPJPF - Arabian
BTW, Battery Life is perfect on JPB ROM! CPU usage is less than 1% in sleep. Lost 1% of battery per 4 hours.
I was doing a similar thing trying to get the arabic rom to work on my vibrant, keys and other stuff got fixed after i used the Vibrant modem JK2 with the i9000JPJPF ROM but was having the GPS issues, then i found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839652
So i am wondering if you have seen it and tried it? since it uses more files than what you have mentioned in your first post:
Bin/
agpsd
lib/
libclientgps.so
libhardware.so
libhardware_legacy.so
libsecgps.so
i am going to give it a try when i have time.
hope it will help
Is it not possible to migrate the Localization files/settings from the Galaxy S (which is pretty much the same phone) official firmware to Vibrant's JK6? Or better yet some modder include it it in his Rom (Master, Eugene can you hear me?)?
We have Epic 4G's camera in many of the custom Roms, localization should not be out of the question either. Especially since it's such a hot feature for most people NOT in US...
Putting those files will fix the GPS on the vibrant. I had trouble with the gps after flashing an arabic rom based on i9000. I pulled the gps files you listed from a working 2.1 rom and placed them in their proper locations. Now it works.
On a side note, the rom I'm using from ce4arab forum is a total battery hog. My vibrant's battery is draining like 10% an hour. Is there a way to add only the localization files for the browser/messaging without the extra samsung stuff?
I hope that you will conyinue your work and make first MultyLanguage ROM for Vibrant!!!
pls, let me know when you finish your work!!!
Multi Lingual ROM from Hebrew
There are a few ROMs that run smoothly on the I9000. Some of them are from the Israeli providers.
If everything is working perfect like the volume keys, the 4 touch function at the bottom, then it looks like an easy task.
Put such a ROM, replace the GPS files and you are done.
The question is if all is working OK except for the GPS?
If so, I will try that this weekend.
I've tried copying /Bin and /Lib files but had no luck. I did it witha RootExorer and rebooted. Maybe it is incorrect way.
Hi there,
I just rooted my 2.1 Eclair phone to Froyo's 2.2.1. Although I love how its made my phone faster its missing some basic features like the camera not working, (which is useless to me because i am always takin pics on my phone) and not having the ability to import contacts from SIM. Am guessing theres other things that make this Rom uncomplete compaired to the official release. Anyways am not here to complain. My question is, Is there a Eclair 2.1 rom that is customizable just like any other custom Rom out there ? I want the rom to be the same as the official release but just with the ability to download custom software basically...or if anyone can suggest a rom that retains all features like camera and import to sim....
sorry for the long request but once I know then I guess I know what choices I have.....thanks !
All Froyo builds, or most of them that i know of, have a camera working, don't know what is wrong with yours =/
Try Floyo or VillainRom, they surely have camera working.
Now if you want to go back to sense, there's a 2.2 Sense version flying around here (sorry don't know the name), and we even have 2.1's still about. There aren't that many Roms around anymore, so you can easily help yourself around. Just look in this section, and the thread titles should be fairly descriptive, along with the first post in each rom's thread.
Well I did try the latest Froyo, it was the special edition version and the camera didn't work. I then tried the stock version and the camera worked but I still had import to sim problems. There are a lot of Sense and non Sense roms out there, someone made a list and i've had a look at it so will try one of them. Thanks for the reply !
P.S. What in your opinion is the most stable rom out there for 2.1 ?
Floyo, FroydVillain, and elelinux's ROMs all have reputations for being quite stable. There may be others. I'm running Floyo and it's been totally solid and speedy, with rocking battery life. And everything works.
EDIT: Oops, sorry you asked for 2.1. The above ROMs that I listed are all 2.2.1. I've no idea about 2.1, sorry!
VanillaEclair has everything working, search for it on the board..
Hi guys, I was just about to flash my tab to gain some features and updates and I was about to use RomManager but couldn't find my model of tab on it.
So I started my search and came cross a number of threads that talk about flashing different parts of the firmware.
e.g. making voice calls (I'd love this but i'm with optus australia and they block... )
A kernel flash ..... sounds nice
a filesystem change
all of these sound great and I have been searching but I really don't know what is for general useage in the roms or what is specific to australian roms...
I just don't want to brik my rom....
any help
cheers
Are you willing to flash Euro ROM? I thought JM6 (can't even remember if this was Euro ROM) was the greatest, then JME.
I'm using RichardTrip OC Kernel+ext4 on JMI now and few things are broken: call volume is very small when turning it up pass 75%. If you go back to 75% it's louder LoL. Others mention video laggy. Other also suggest to go all the way to Modaco ROM. Oh, bluetooth is broken as well (when I was running Modaco kernel+JME ROM but Paul mentioned something about because the old ROM so he suggested switch to newer ROM).
If you want to convert to ext4, use Modaco kernel Jan/2x date. It's very easy. Just READ the steps and have good Roto backup to your PC first.
So there you have it. YMMV

Interesting_ well it's at least a place to start got lot's of searching terms now
so are the roms realesed based on performance and features since this is Linux we're talking about, I imagine that a major part of the difference is back-end as opposed to my old HTC trinity which replaced functionality as opposed to doing too much back end enhancements - Is this right? is there a list of features each rom has ?
cheers
It's probably best you go check out the "Developers" section. When someone posts a new ROM they usually give you a list of features.
Try reading the entire thread so that you can see if others are happy with the ROM or what issues they're having. After this, you can make an informed decision on which ROM to flash.
which order do we flash in?

yes but what is the next step - what rom do i need? A system rom, A kernel a firmware fix - or rather, so I don't brick the phone what order should these be done in I think that is a better question
I have already rooted the phone , made some symlinks to add functionality so i'm kinda noobish to linux but I can catch on
cheers for any more help
I have also not yet flashed anything, because I don't have a need to as yet. But if I were to flash any ROM it would be the MoDaCo ROM with an OC'd kernel. That seems to be most peoples ROM of choice as it keeps the device looking as stock as possible with a good performance enhanced backend by changing the FS type to ext4 (which is faster than the current FS) and obviously a faster processor speed. CWM is also added for good measure. This allows you to flash certain zImages and have a more robust recovery menu.
Hope that helps.

I just downloaded this rom, and tested it out, using eugene's kernel of course, and everything works GREAT! I love it due to it's simplicty, and all the apps I don't need are already gone, so it's basically a light weight rom with just the right things
Check it out HERE
If your considering to flash, please leave comments or if you did let other people know what you think.
Does everything work flawless (primarily gps)? Which service.jar are you using?
replace service jar yes (the one posted on development section) , iv been runing this rom for 2nd day now i love it never got to darkys rom as everyone flashed it i wannit to be different ha ha i love this rom for its simplicity its only 75 mb big and it has custom resolution
+1 for rom maker
