he doesn't find my wifi - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

hi, i installed android 2.2 and now my wi fi network, sometimes he finds it most of the time he wont.
what can I do?
sorry my english

get within range

What channel is your router on?
Sent from my HTC HD2 Android

chanel 12
thanks.

Wifi stopped working for me about a week ago on the last build I was using. It had worked fine for a few weeks and then nothing. I could connect with Windows, just not Android. There was nothing on my router to show that the mac address was blocked - there was no discernible reason that I could find.
I ended up changing builds yesterday and my wifi is back again. Unfortunatly, a change of build is the only thing I can recommend.
Unless, of course, there's 2 people trying to use the same wifi router, both running the same Android build?

It's running very nicely now (was slow whilst setting up at first, but a few reboots sorted that).

[Q] Strange Wi-Fi issue.

I have a strange problem about Wi-Fi. I tried every single Android Build in this forum, and i'm still having it.
The problem is, my Wi-Fi network is works like a charm with Sense builds, every Sense build. Without exception. But with the stock builds, it's just stops connecting to the internet(still vague?). I tried everything; static IP's, tried to make my network open... Nothing changed. Is there any solution for this, or the problem is just my network???
btw, i can reach router's homepage (192.168.0.1), i just cant access to the internet.
I'm pretty sure you problem has been covered elsewhere (although I cant be certain..."It just stops working" is a bit vague)....
But, searching for "wifi" problems might not be very benneficial soo I will try to help instead of flaming you like i normally might
Which channel is your router using???
From what I recall some builds will not recognise the higher channels (11, 12 and 13 I think).
So if your router is on channel 11 or higher I would try a lower number
If thats not the problem then I dunno....its back to searching for you
yes, that was 11. so i tried 10,7,5,2... nothing changed. still i can reach to router's homepage but not internet. it doesn't make sense
guys, please help me. i'm still trying to solve it. i tried every single rom published today too. cyanogens, not cyanogens...
-i also upgrade my radio from 2.10 to 2.11.

[Q] How to allow incoming TCP connections (WebDroid, SSHDroid, etc.)?

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone knows how to make Android open the ports necessary for incoming connections for server apps to work without having to ping the client first under su?
Or failing that, is there a way to run a script that will ping the client IP instead of having to run the command by hand in terminal?
Thanks!

Second that! Something's off in 99/100 ROMS, TCP doesn't seem to do anything. Only one Sense ROM by cotulla seems to work.
I disabled the adblocking hosts file to test if it had anything to do with it (e.g. SSHDroid doesn't work with it) but that didn't help anything either
Agreed, does not seem to work on any rom I've tried, only Cotulla's 'Stock Desire' Sense build seems to work (this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620).
Too bad Sense's so completely dire, otherwise I'd use that. I want CyanogenMOD.
Having the same question. I am sure here must be someone who knows how to enable inbound connections....
Little update:
I noticed it is possible for me to ping and use all services when using the gateway to access everything, in my case the access point/wifi router.
So it looks like this is some kind of routing/firewall issue but I can't find anything about default blocking or firewalling on android...
Good news. I found out what is causing this on almost every build.
It has something to do with the stock wifi tethering. If you try and enable it in almost every rom it will fail, but now turn on your wifi again and everything works as it would normally do!
The build it does work on also has working stock wifi tethering, so that explains that...
For now it's good to have this workaround and I hop to have a proper fix in the future
im using RAFDROID 3.0 and i dont think i have this problem at all. I tried SwiFTP and it connected without any issues.
Try to update the busybox version mine is 1.15.2

I tried this on Frankinstine's awesome ROM, but no cigar. There has to be a firewall rule or setting we can tweak to allow this kind of traffic...

It works for me, but it's not 100% foolproof. It seems to work for a while, but not permanently. However, it's still better than the ping method. The ping method would never work for me, since I use Wifi at least 4 different places a week. Even when done automatically, how would I know what to ping on what Wifi network?! Random DHCP on workstations notwithstanding...
This does it for me:
turn on normal Wifi
wait around 10 seconds (for Wifi to 'start')
turn on Wifi hotspot (normal wifi should turn it self off automatically)
wait around 20 seconds (the hotspot takes a while to 'start', it actually fails (error) for me, but still does the trick)
turn normal Wifi on again
At that point it "works" for me, at least for a while.
At the very least this seems to indicate that the broken Wifi hotspot and this problem are related -- on Cotulla's build (where stock Wifi hotspot WORKS), this problem is non-existent.
Unfortunatly your steps do not work for me :-(

That's unlucky. Those steps seem to "work" for me on CleanDroid 1.30. Maybe we can just hope it works again when the stock wifi hotspot is fixed.
Alternate "solution":
Get Cotulla's "Stock Desire" ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620
It definitely works on that. Too bad sense is dog****, and your battery will last for a day max.

Just tried this and it worked. As soon as I started the wifi the second time my computer started pinging HD2.
My usual procedure for fixing this was to start wifi, see assigned IP address and then ping my computer from 'Net Ping' app. This can be faster sometimes.
Is there a way to port hotspot from Cotulla's build to a nonSense build? No way for me to come back to sense again

Don't know, it's probably in the kernel, so shouldn't be too difficult, but then again, I haven't really got a clue about building ROMs.

[Q] My SSID not detected

I have an HD2 with CyanogenMod7.1 HTC Leo 080111.
I changed my wifi access point and lost connection to it.
Everything else is connecting: Laptops, Motorola Defys and other.
Even the same HD2 with Windows 6.5 (prior to booting Android) connects fine.
I tried to vi wpa_supplicant.conf several times with different settings but at no avail.
I guess the problem is in the ROM. But where? Any clues?
Thanks

had similar problem on HD2 CM mod (ACA), not sure if it'll work for you but try to disable and enable SSID Broadcast on your router (saving the router settings each time)
Your solution works for me
Thanks a lot. It worked also after disabling/re-enabling the wifi on the android.
Thanks again.
The problem returned
This solution is temporary. After the phone get really out of range and returns, it does not recognize the SSID.
Do you know what is the root cause of the problem?
Thanks

strange, and I'm out of any ideas, apart from the painfully obvious ones:
- is your wifi hidden? allegedly some roms have problems sometimes with reconnecting to hidden networks
- try changing routers channel to 1, 4, 6 or 11
- seems you're using SD build, if so maybe update it to the newest version, with fresh data.img, do not restore wifi access point but set it anew
Once again it worked
Out of your list I tried everything except setting the channel.
My Access Point worked with Auto channel, meaning that it could change it to the least busy one. For some reason, HD2 did not like it.
Now it works (meanwhile) with channel 4.
I hope for some stability.
Thanks again.
It works fine for the last couple of days. So the proble is the dynamic channel allocation. I guess that at least this ROM feels better with static one.
Thanks.

Wifi problem with new Essential phone...

I couldn't resist Sprint's $6 per month deal for the Essential phone (you pay $29 per month and get a $23 per month credit when leasing for 18 months). I picked up my Essential phone yesterday and am having Wifi problems. We have a new TP-Link Archer-C9 - AC1900 Long Range Wi-Fi Router installed. All the other devices in the house connect through the TP-Link router fine and have internet access (Android Tablet, Older Android Phone, iPad). But when I connect to the TP-Link router from the Essential phone I get a "connected - no internet" message. When I try to open up a web page in Chrome, it says "Wan Port Disconnected" -- I know that the WAN port is the "internet" ....
I'm hoping that this is just a setting that I need to change on the Essential phone...
Any ideas why other device can connect to the internet through the TP-Link router but the Essential phone cannot? Is there any known incompatibility with Essential phone and TP-Link routers? I need to get this sorted out if possible soon because I only have a few weeks to return the TP-Link router.
Note - This happens on both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz hotspots...
Thanks in advance!

When I setup the phone yesterday I only got two notifications to update. I had expected many more than that based on how many updates I have heard were released.

One more trick to get updated to the latest version NMJ51B is turn off your phone > pull out Sprint sim card > turn it back on with wifi connection only for 5 minutes or so then it will prompt you the update.

Well, it tells everything that your phone wifi is fine and working. You need to check your router at home to see if there is a limited wifi connection by factory default settings. I have Verizon fios router and its default settings is for only 10 devices at the same time so I had to adjust it to make it work for more than 10. Hope this helps!
