Hey everyone back again with another poll for 2011 results on January 1st, 2011 of what ROM is the fastest ROM period. We ARE NOT talking battery life or anything else just PURE PERFORMANCE. So post your your vote by stating:
- what ROM you are using
- what kernal
- overclock speed
- JIT or No JIT
- and any other things you may have applied to get peak performance from the HTC Hero
Umm Really? In Development?

INDEED! *gets out fire extinguisher*
the BEST part of this threads location is that it was actually MOVED here, into development!!! from themes and apps!!!! WTF.
when I get on my laptop later ill move it into general section lol sorry I can not delete the threads on my phone lol
I think you are better off with whatever ROM you have right now... atleast till you learn to read.

Not according to the logs, which say it was originally posted here...
okay after getting the moving and deleting situated its time to get this show on the road....i'll kick it off
after trying damagecontrol, fresh 2.4.0, and liquidsense 2.1 stable my vote goes to.....
ROM - LiquidSense 2.1 Stable
Kernal - Zen's AnyKernel with no Perflock
JIT - N/A
Other Performance Additions - N/A
this by far is the fastest in my opinion....if this rom ends up tying with another rom then i'll go into DEEP explanation as to why i think this is the fasest "on the market" in our debate between the top 2 if there ends up being a tie (btw roms are NOT available on the market i'm just saying that as like the fastest rom available lol )

that thread "was never there" in the themes and apps or in the android development sub forum....what are you talking about?
but back to the main topic
I believe Cyanogenmod with Braninfuct kernel is the fastest. Cyanogenmod has much better Graphic drivers than that of any HTC sense rom, which makes the performance much better.

I can respect your opinion so we have two votes now
aospMod is easily the fastest ROM I've ever used. Definitely faster than CM6.1, which I've also used. I don't even need to OC it or anything.

Correct. I meant not OC'd above what it is by default, which is 691mhz I believe.
I have used a lot of different ROMs and so far the fastest has been NFX stock ROM. CM6.1 was very nice but had moments of lag. I keep a Nandriod of it because I want it be my ROM of choice but when ever I actually you it, I get frustrated and go back to NFX.

that is why I love liquid sense b/c IT IS NFX's stock Rom just otimized by NFX and others to make the Rom as fast as possible
-Rom: LiquidSense based off of Nfinite's .7
-Kernel: Decad3nce's #589 w/ SetCPU [email protected]@264

I don't like answering threads like this cause I like people to test them out for themselves cause it's a personal choice. But, if you like Sense builds, check out DarchLegend 5.0.5 (or the stable ROM in the first post of that thread), or Fresh 2.0d. If you like AOSP and don't mind losing camera, definitely check out DarchDroid. I am using it now and it is a solid rom. ZenEXP is fun to play around with, but is not completely functional as of yet. But as I said before, I encourage you to try them all and see what fits you the best.
I like my bread toasted do to OC kernel.
I predict its the future of most hero roms.
I like the MatrixROM.
It's simple, fast, and stable. A good blank slate that you can scale into whatever you want.

The point of this thread remains a bit unclear to me. Are you assuming
that we are all the same and your idea of best is the same as ours?
Also everyones exp are different. If you would flash a rom blindly
because someone you dont even know is serious or not suggested it,
then you my friend are probably due for a phone bricking rickrolling.....
Good luck to all those that flash because of others suggestions on
finding something that you yourself truely enjoy. Its bascially the same
as asking ppl to tell you what your favorite sitcom is. I would assume
anyone here already knows their favorite rom(If they havent compiled
it themselves)along with the reasons for it being so. But we all contribute
to the community in different ways, and if this is yours then thanks.
CB.CP is Epic!!! Very Fast!!
Yet another thread that shouldn't need to exist....there are plenty of other threads asking essentially the same exact question.....
*sighs* anyways...the only correct answer to your thread OP.....the best rom out there is the one that works best for you and your needs. Sift through all the roms out there and you will find your diamond in the rough.

Ya but there are people out there who don't have the patience of doing that........ *hulk smash* I lost count how many times I've flashed the last two months since the 2.1 roms started to roll in. Sometimes even if I flash the same rom, wiping in between, I don't always have the same experience twice.
It's a process...but one that leads to happiness in the end once you find that one that makes your phone go 'ahhhhhhhh thats more like it'
I buy my computer chairs the same way...I basically blindfold myself and just start sitting in every damn chair in the store from cheap to expensive till my body lets me know I've made the right choice. Sure....it ends up being a gawd damn $350 chair but it was worth it haha /tangent

Maybe we can stop calling things pointless and leave it has a just a poll..
We can see what most people prefer and what everyones personal feeling is to the rom they are using.
And also for people rooting for the first time. I wouldnt recommend "just flash every rom you can and make a decision".
I would recommend flashing what the majority of people use and feel comfortable with. And then experiment from there.
This thread can also be informational if people stop complaining and post why they think a certain rom is better.
I understand there is more threads like this, but this has all current roms.

Well, ok maybe I'm just mentally exhausted and was a little on the harsh side, but if anything, can this be merged with the other threads asking what the best/fastest/stable roms out there are.....
Agreed w/ a majority of the posters so far....ROM flashing, be it w/ a Droid, a WinMo, or other O/S...is always about user preference. There will never be a consensus "best" in that regard...
That said, while I tend to gloss or skip over threads like this, I do attentively examine the "most stable ROM" threads, as ultimately....regardless of what eye candy or features I want in a phone, it still needs to function AS A PHONE!
I'm sure this priority will vary in rank w/ people who may use their phone for business purposes as much or more than personal (ie. myself), but when it comes down to it, I could care less how many zoom features I have in my camera, so long as my system lag is minimal, SMS works, and I can hear a caller on the other end of the line!
Off my soapbox now, and back to the original question...I'm toggling between the Darchdroid ROM for it's lightning speed and DC's latest w/ the today's latest mod updates. Tomorrow....who the F knows?

I would normally agree with the darchdroid as I really do truely love his work, it feels the fastest, but I'm running into waay too many problems with push gmail, battery life, vm notification, and some other stuff. v2 (pre-OC) worked really well, guess I'll go back to it after stuff gets fixed.
My vote is for fresh-toast as of the time of this post

Obviously you are not speaking of me since i went out of my way to avoid
the word pointless. If this thead was titled "Whats your favorite rom and
why" i never wouldve posted. I didnt come in to find a new rom, i came in
to comment hoping maybe the op will be a little more specific in his/her
next post as not to mislead and waste ppls time. There can never BE a
BEST rom, and hopefully most of us here know that. If not continue to
scour this post by all means, if you look hard enough you might even be
able to find one that imitates the iphone os. If not you should prolly just
go buy one
im the best rom available as of 4-21
Just curious, as that is why I am not putting the latest FreshToast v1 on my phone - I use the camera every day...
So, are there any overclocked ROMs with the camera?? That would be great!

I have searched by the way, and found no definitive answer. If it's obvious and you know the answer, why not post "no" or "yes" instead of the wise-ass reply?
And if the answer is not obvious - well, that's why I posed the question.

WOW! That must be new.... there is a search on here?
putting it simply, if there was an overclocked rom with working camera, everyone would copy that and have the same thing. then it would be easy to find one. did you see any roms on the front page with working camera and overclock?
ill hijack this thread...id like to see a stable 2.1 rom with everything working but stripped of sense totally, can it happen?
Only if you run a 1.5 rom.
I released a modified boot.img and wlan.ko that you can patch gumbo 1.5c rom with.
you can find it here http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-hero-roms-hacks/10138-gumbo-1-5c-overclock.html
I made it for my own personal use and just put it out there for anyone who might want it. All I did was apply the patch to the boot.img from gumbo 1.5c tweaker edition then flashed it to my phone. I was already running gumbo 1.5c tweaker edition so it has only been tested to work flashed over that.
It most likely would flash just fine over any 1.5 rom, but it will add gumbos custom low memory killer and a script that modifies the cpu scaling. If you use it you can't use setcpu. The rom already does what setcpu does.
If you do want it, flash at your own risk, and make sure to backup first.
I could release an overclocked 1.5 kernel that does not use gumbo, or is based off another rom if there is any demand for it, but I think with 2.1 around the corner, and so many almost fully functional 2.1 roms out there, the only people that would even be interested are those who can't run a 2.1 rom due to audio loss issues. that is not too many.

no, it won't happen till htc releases the .29 kernel source. though you could overclock and have it on 1.5 working, i'm pretty sure.

I compiled the oc patch into a 1.5 boot.img based off of gumbo 1.5c tweaker. Post #9 in this thread!
I am getting similar benchmarks as a OC 2.1 rom w/o JIT.
3.1 MFLOPS on linpack
28-29 fps on neocore not killing any tasks
6535 ms on benchmark Pi.
Stock 1.5 rom was
26 fps with all tasks killed
2.36 MFLOPs linpack
10635 ms benchmark pi
Thanks for the info obelisk, justin and obchaos.
Now, was that so hard? ;-)
For the rest of you, just because the search function does not yield an answer does not mean the answer is not out there, now does it?
I had better not see any of you ever posting a question on here ;-)
In any case, I remember 2.1 did not have the camera working for a while, then someone fixed it, right? So it seems that this is not a crazy question to ask.

this is quite OT, but I was wondering how come DHDs overclocked to 1.5Ghz can achieve 3k+ Quadrant scores but the G2 needs to be OCed to 1.8 or 1.9Ghz to achieve similar scores? The extra RAM of the DHD makes so much difference?
Well its a different processor, not just lower clocked.
I dont know the specs off the top of my head but i would guess it has smaller caches. That does make a difference. I doubt ram comes into it for most of the benchmarks.

Not going to lie, I had NO idea what I was doing... but I think I just stumbled through it all.....
are the kernels dangerous.... how can I test/check to see if it is worthwhile.... will they drain the battery even more so? thx
Depending what kernel and what clock speed you set, you should be able to underclock to around 700 +/- mhz and not have any noticeable slow downs.
Just make sure you set a lower speed when your screen is off and you battery will last upwards of 24 hours.
thx, I just that 1.51 one for now.... seems to be working well, I put a profile in for screen off.... dropping it to 256-756 or whatever it is! did some light benching, angry birds, no lag or issues so far.... woke up and the phone is still alive, lol

You can vote for more than one rom.
One froyo, then one gingerbread.
Throw the Froyo-based CM6 Magpie into the mix!

I just found out i cant edit my poll, great...
umm i guess vote for cyanogenmod6 cuz its the closest ROM to cm 6 magpie.
COS-DS now, but BiffMod was hands down the best Froyo Rom until it fell behind when the devs disbanded and it couldn't be based on CM6.1 Final. I like the extra features, but I what ezterry is doing on the DS platform is awesome.
Xillius200's,Mikeyman77's,Spikeynick94's DroidEris v5.0 ("MTD+2708")
Sorry u guys but i am not allowed to edit polls, so i am requesting to the moderators & addministrators to make polls editable, heres the link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13817354
Hopefully they respond, ill keep u guys updated.
Note: dont let this discourage u from posting links of roms i havent included in the poll that u think i should.
I will vote for Ginger yoshi rom b/v it is fast, very stable and gives you all the features of android Gingerbread official rom for a device such as HTC magic/sapphire 32B that has low ram and isn't suppose to be able to load android 2.3.

We are comparing apples with oranges here: 2.1 ROMs, 2.2 ROMs, 2.3 ROMs, are very different.

not really
you can vote for more than one
for instance I voted
CM7 Magpie , ADS, COS , EzGinger, Froyo by Lazlo, Biffmod and Ezterry's AOSP
all Open Source , and all have merit
but yeah as with any Poll it is flawed
btw, the reason the poll can not be edited is because with vBulletin Polls you can edit the results , so edit is restricted to mods
I'd vote for Froyo By Laszlo.
I'm using it in a customized (stripped down/barebone) version with farmatitos non bfs kernel 20110428 and without sd-ext.

For me it's fast, stable and delivers a very good battery life.
I tried almost all of the mentioned gb roms. For me they got slow with the amount of apps I was installing (possibly because of low ram space).
But as Effdee stated, "Poll is flawed".

So I have to contact the moderator for the g1 forum?
Uhh I made it multiple choice so u can vote for gb and froyo roms to be fair.
In what way is this poll flawed? So that I may try to improve it now or in future polls?
I really want this poll to be helpful

Polls are just flawed in general
if you watched the votes over time you would see a sudden spike in the votes for Ginger Yoshi, this corresponded with when he posted in his thread asking people to come here and vote
Now, a lot of Ginger Yoshi 1.1 users are from the Sapphire Forum
their ROM Bible
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957085
only really points to Yoshi based ROMs (or old out of date roms)
you can bet that many don't realise that they could use the other ROMs in this Poll, so straight away you have a skew
G1 users see the bigger picture and votes will be split amongst the other roms
but I'm sure things will even out once people actually know that this poll is here

you then have a new problem
if you add new options the people who have already voted can't vote again
the new option is loosing from its start
it then looks like it is not very good, so people who come and look at poll then write that rom off as being a poor choice and don't try it.
by adding a ROM now, you kill it
depends on how long you plan to run it and what you want to get out of it.
I think this poll says a lot.
Lazlo doesn't support his rom for quite some time now, but still it is one of the most voted for ROM.
There is a reason for that, really. I hope we will see some of the more recent ROMs enter this level of perfection. For now I didn't find one, so no multivote for me. Lazlo gets my vote.
Froyo 4 Lazlo bests hands down, i didnt even vote for a gb rom. Froyo is about as good as it will ever get for the godfather of android the g1. GB is meant for higher end phones that the g1 just cant handle all its features, as nice as it does run and with the help of all the devs, froyo 4 lazlo is the best most stablest fastest rom i've ever used. No matter what settings i use no other rom can outlast it

ill keep it running for a few months till ther roms on here are outdated. ill just leave it as it is
Awhile ago I rooted my phone and played with a few ROMs. I was using Superclean 2.0 (I think), and PWGB to name a couple. Recently I went and tried SuperClean3 v.5 and it didn't go so well. Not to fault SC3, it was lovely until I tried to reinstall my apps from Titanium Backup. Anyway because of the difficulties I went back to stock, and OTA updated to Verizon's 2.3.5.
Now I am wondering why I Rooted in the first place. I swear my battery lasts longer and I have learned to ignore the bloatware. I originally rooted to get rid of the bloatware because I thought it was slowing down my phone. Maybe it's because I am using Verizon's Gingerbread vs. Verizon's Eclair, but it seems to be a lot better. There are some shiny new phones out there and I will up on my contract soon, but I don't see anything that makes me want to get rid of my Fascinate. The Razr is cool, Galaxy SII is cool, and the new Nexus is Cool, but I think I'll keep my Fascinate.
Don't give up until you've tried some of the other ROMs, kernels and themes here... Performance is only one potential benefit to rooting. Better customization and functionality are the best benefits imo. For starters, why not try Superclean 3 V0.5 with the TW4 addons nitsuj17 posted in the development section, along with comradesven's KGB kernel (of course, if Soviet paratroopers invade a certain Colorado High School as a result, nitsuj17 said you could blame him).
Nitsuj17 also will eventually post a new version of TSM Resurrection in which you can really customize your phone and find functionality you never knew was there. I personally use TSM Pool Party, an excellent AOSP ROM by the same team that makes Resurrection for TouchWiz. It's just one of many different ROMs you can try to unlock your phone's potential. There is also PWGB, which I see you're familiar with, and GeeWiz which I understand brings a more stock experience. Cyanogenmod 7.1 is probably the most popular Android ROM of them all, and MIUI offers a very unique user experience, and all of these can be found here. As for my initial suggestion, the KGB kernel I mentioned might pick up your phone's performance if you go back to Superclean 3.
Has anyone seen John Connor?
@skynet that was beautifully written man! I didn't know were capable of this kind of coherent, sincere, well balanced kind of writing.

There's version 4!? I only see v3..
Edit: Lol, nevermind I didnt realize it could be in ROM manager, I was checking at Rootzwiki. Cant confirm though cause ROM manager is detecting my fascinate as a epic4g or a i9000 on SC 0.5 when confirming to flash CWR and don't want to chance borking anything. How is though droidstyle? Is it beta or still alpha stage?
BTW didnt mean to hijack the thread.. sorry

when you restored your apps did you also restore data? If so, that would likely be the source of the "difficulties". Just a hunch since you weren't real specific about difficulties. If you were coming from froyo or eclair to GB restoring data with apps would most certainly make life hell.

Well Jt is not really advertising the latest release, but if you look thru the last 2 pages or so in the alphalulz thread on rootz, you will see his "stealthmode" post of a new release and patch with pull down menu widgets. Camcorder, mms send still are broke, but alot of tweaks have been done. I can now run a live wallpaper and the launcher is smoother than v3 was with a regular wallpaper. Launcher settings aew enabled, home screen rotates, galaxy s settings work for controlling bln, usb mass storage woeks and a few other things im missing. But its a daily driver for sure....very smooth now. Quadrant around 2200 compared to 1800 before for me. So the hardware acceleration must be tweaked in some aswell.
