I have a rooted rogers HTC dream that won't boot passed the rogers splash screen. I am looking for help on how to get it working again. Will the phone have to be re-rooted?
Thanks
Can you get in to recovery (home + power) or the SPL (camera + power).
Yes I can get into both of those. I actually managed to reinstall 5.08 as well as EBI1 and google apps and it was fine for a few days and then it wouldn't boot up again.

I used to have that problem when I was EBI1 as well (CM5 working then all of a sudden stop).
If you are feeling up to it update to one of the new radio's (ezterry thread). Not only will you lose this problem but you will also gain 14MB of hardware RAM (Very good for your phone)

Ok...
So I woke up this morning to an update request on my UK T-Mobile G1. However, I've been running JF ADP 1.5 rooted build for at least a week!
If you click on details is says that it is a bootloader update, that will then be followed by a further update. This leads me to believe that my bootloader is not up-to-date?
I have had a look around, but am a little confused, as I previous installed the JF RC9 1.43, which included the bootloader (or the version before did).
On going into the recovery utility - it appears to have reverted to a 'standard' bootloader one (e.g. with triangle with !). I have re-installed the Engineering Bootloader, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference (don't know if it didn't install correctly!)
Anyway, anyone got an idea of how to stop the network update message?
The triangle with the ! is the recovery screen, the boot loader is either the rainbow colours or the skating androids.
My phone is running the eu 1.5 gfh firmware and I'm getting the same update. I think it's trying to put back the rainbow boot loader with fastboot support.

So i'm clearly getting confused...
When I go into recovery mode (e.g. Home + Power) I used to get a JF console, now I get triangle !
I was just trying to guess at what had changed... All I really want is the update message to disappear!
The change would be to the boot loader
see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455860
Ok - so I've tried:
1) Re-doing the Bootloader
2) Re-installing the update (JF ADP 1.5)
3) Re-installing (or installing for the first time) the 1.5 radio from HTC website
Still keep getting the update request... I'm out of idea's! Any further suggestions more than welcome...
I have a US G1 but if i was you i would do the whole rooting process over again download the RC7.NBH rename it DREAMIMG.NBH redo the root hack than install JF ADP 1.5.
Thats your best bet
The how to is here
:-(
Unfortunately, that's pretty much the only thing I had thought of too...
But I haven't received any updates since rooting (e.g. since Dec) - so am not convinced that it will solve the problem.

Hey everyone,
I am writing this because a day of research and playing about with my phone has resulted in nothing.
I recently rooted my G1 european (UK) phone and ended up with the JesusFreke build absolutely no problems...
Today I updated to the latest radio and SPL (again, no problems) and went to put on the Virtudude Roger's mod first and it froze on the splash screen, so I reverted back to original Android, rooted again and went back to JesusFreke's build.
This time I tried Cyanogen mod, which also freezes on the splash screen.
I have tried going to both these builds straight from Android 1.0 or from the JesusFreke build with no success - it just freezes on the splash screen every time.
Anyone have any advice? Maybe theres something I'm doing wrong on the way?! I use recovery mode to format and load the flash images on
So much thanks in advance!
After rooting the phone and then putting it on JesusFreke's build, you were trying to update the radio and SPL with the 2.22.19.26I radio and the 1.33.2005 SPL (Haykuro's "special" SPL - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=517593)?
You do risk bricking your G1 with this SPL, but if you follow the directions in the thread exactly, you should be fine (do this at your own risk).
Also, make sure to do a wipe (Alt+W) in recovery before you try to apply (Alt+S) the build update.zip.

What SPL do you have? Are you wiping before you update?
Thanks for the great advice, I was actually following the instructions you provided and have 1.33.2005 SPL.
I just had no idea why it wasn't working, but I have now sorted it...
I put on the recovery utility from JFv1.43, format/flashed the image for Virtudude, restarted and then just left the house for a couple of hours whilst it was on the splash screen....just came back and it had booted in fine.
Now it boots fine every time (does take a few minutes to boot but worth it!)
So, all sorted now - again, so much thanks for the help - I honestly thought it was because I had an EU model or something like that; unfortunately, searching the forums for "EU" or "UK" doesn't bring up much because of the minimum character limit!!
Hey guys,
Few of you in the cyanogenmod irc room the other night might have recalled me totally bricking my t-mobile mytouch by pulling the battery after a reboot... dumbest thing I have ever done. I consider myself a fairly knowledgeable linux geek, but unfortunately I panicked and did the worst possible thing, pulling my batt and completely bricking my phone.
I was installing the 4.1.999 cyanogen mod. Phone was so toast it wouldn't charge. Status led's wouldn't work, it was 100% toast. Fortunately I was able to have it replaced and would like to try again in a day or so.
Here is a video showing exactly what I did, please excuse the length of the video it goes from start to finish, backing up and flashing everything, up until the point where I pulled the battery. I'd love to know what I did wrong, so I can try again!

Ok, here's what you did wrong:
The first steps are good... You've installed the 1.6 update, then applyed the cyanogen rom... After that I've seen that it was installed a new radio... That might have killed your phone...
At least that appears to be the problem... But why a new radio was installed, no idea... (I don't think you did it on purpose)...
the phone you have there is a magic not a dream. For a start that dosnt help!! Other than that i think yiou have put Dream radio on the device, It not being a dream is the problem as when it detects its the wrong radio the phone goes into a safe mode where it wont turn on to save breaking it.
HTC might fix it under warranty as they did me but it WILL come back with perfect spl on.I have flashed the wrong radio on 2 phones yes 2! now i learn from my mistakes Oh and when/if it gets fixed and you bypass perfect spl, You cant put any ROM Other than donut based ones so no hero takes the fun out of flashing
All bricks I've seen are because you guys install new( in most cases wrong radio- from different phone or MotherBoard version) or changing SPL (exception: people with perfect SPL). I'm asking WHY you do this , WHAT FOR ? Putting different rom /rooting etc does NOT require changing anything and is simple as bread and butter, and you CAN'T damage the phone !! Sorry to see this I'm not 100% sure but it looks like you have flashed with wrong radio. As my predecessor said I think only HTC can fix it... To all people DO NOT TOUCH SPL AND RADIO IF YOU JUST WANT TO PUT HERO ROM OR ROOT THE PHONE (exception ppl with perfect SPL)
i accidently flashed the radio for ION on my 32A last week. got my phone fixed under warranty thank god. but i got the perfected SPL.
if you do get the perfected SPL, you dont really need to change your SPL to flash stuff on your phone.
just replace your recovery using the recovery flasher apk a.k.a the one click root.
reboot to recovery, flash a new ROM that is rooted.
then using the adb shell method, flash a new recovery permanently to your phone.
i have had no issues using that method since i got my perfected SPL.

after applying the 4.1.999 update you pressed the trackball to reboot your suppose to hold the home key while its rebooting on that step till the mytouch screen shows up also you need to wipe the ext. redo the last step then the my3g should be fine in other words reflash the cyanogen
u install wrong recovery
Install instructions for an HTC Magic (32B ONLY!!!)/ION/MyTouch3G
Same as above if you are using CM-Recovery 1.4.
OR
Same as above EXCEPT step 2
Download HTC ADP 1.6 DRC83 http://www.androidspin.com/downloads...ooted_base.zip
*You have to manually reboot MT3G and hold home.
he can use the ra recovery image it works because i used it on mine
Turns out I used the wrong recovery image before doing the cyanogen flash.
I followed this guide on my second phone (swapped out my old white one for a black mytouch) and am running 4.1.999 right now - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4666075&postcount=282
Hey there guys...
So I ****ed up. I flashed the Danger SPL for WG's build of cyanogen's rom and then selected reboot. I wasn't aware you needed to flash a rom after adding the SPL but now I'm stuck with the "T-Mobile G1" screen and it will not boot into recovery.
I hold the Home key down when I boot, nothing. I hit Home, Menu & End keys at the same time and it won't even reboot. any tips? Sorry I'm searching through the threads now for help. Thank you!
No, rebooting is fine. You didn't have the correct radio, which you should have had since 1.5. You can either get a replacement from tmo saying an update bricked it, replace the motherboard or buy a new one.
the radio was wrong?
I had the 26I radio I believe
Its of no help, but I am curious.
why flash DangerSPL for a rom based on Cyanogens ?
I didnt think you needed DangerSPL for that rom ?

you dont need too lol but some people do it just in case they want too flash a 2.0 or hero or 2.1/hero lol... but for the OP if you had the 26l radio then the spl was okay to flash does it boot up to the mytouch screen or does it do nothing I think its camera and power for the G1 to get into fastboot try that and see if it turns on
Take out battery for 10 seconds. Press Back button several times. Put back battery. Boot into recovery mode.
Well...
took it into t-mobile & just received by replacement phone yesterday.
How hooked up is that for xmas?
Brand new G1 running super smooth I love it

Great! What was your explanation to them?
Ive rooted before but im trying to root a friends device...It's been a while since ive rooted mine so I was freshening up how to do it again. I followed the steps all the way to flashing the SPL...My friend was on android 1.6 with build number DMD64. I reverted to RC29 to root and when flashing the SPL...i flashed dangerspl in recovery. I rebooted and now it does not go past the G1 logo...i tried fastboot and boot into recovery but unsuccessful. Is this a brick? I'm really hoping not...any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Did you make certain the radio was up to date? Old radio with danger spl = brick. Sorry. If that's the case, your only option will be JTAG, which is a rather complex procedure.
I could have been certain that the radio was 2.x but not 100%. My friend's phone was at 1.6 before the reverting to rc29. Does reverting rc29 also revert the radio to 1.x?

No it shouldnt, can you get into recovery mode? if you can then just flash the rom again and it should work just fine.
As far as I know, DREAIMG.nbh contains ROM, radio, recovery, SPL and splash screens. So yes, I'm 99% percent sure it downgraded your radio.
If that's a case, then you have nice brick.
Why do you ppl still bother with Haykuro? SafeSPL + MTD Partition Hack is the way to go!

If the dreaimg.nbh file does downgrade the radio then i'm probably sol. It was my fault as I should've gone with the original hardspl before flashing the dangerspl right away. But I didnt think rc29 would downgrade the radio, thought it'd be safe.
Anyone know or know anyone that can do the jtag hack and try to recover the bricked G1? I looked up jtag and it sounds quite complicated to do myself. If anyone can do it, ill even pay a small fee for someone to do it. Thanks.
I have a question about this too. I too find myself in the same situation but i did not try to flash the dangerSPL. I was rooting and after i flashed hard spl and rebooted i got stuck on the G1 screen...I cant load into recovery or normal or even fast boot. Did i really just brick my phone? any help would be cool
Bottom Line....
Out of all the post, no one seems to give a straight answer. HTC G1 frozen on the bootup screen (T..Mobile G1 screen). Can the phone be fixed or NOT? If it can, how is this done? (factory G1)
If you can boot into Recovery (Home + Power) or Fastboot (Camera + Power) you can recover your phone. Otherwise you need to use JTAG, which with the right knowledge can recover just about anything. I'd search craigslist or similar sites for people that offer JTAG services. Every now and then an XDA member might offer it, but that would be in special circumstances, considering that there are a lot of people who might need it done.

You'll also need to open up the phone and solder wires to the circuit board.
