[Q] md5sum - is possible? - Galaxy Tab General

ok, now I have a question regarding verifying of downloaded firmware from here : so many times is happened to download an incorrect or corrupted file which goes to brick the device. I have experience of HTC custom rom or custom recovery; they give a md5sum verification code ex (MD5Sum: 8b3b5ff90575eba0c5bfc13c0fa6b8ea). how can we find out the same thing here for our device? (i'm talking about the firmware which we supposed to download....) any idea?

[Q] Recovery broken, can't flash any ZIP (CWM also)

So, that's a long story, but a few days ago I tried do flash one more time the CM11. It gave me an error like written below. I used the CWM 6.0.5.3 that supports MTD (flashed it with Odin - .tar.md5), all beautiful, but that's not about it.
When I returned to stock and tried to flash the CWM5 through native recovery and even flashed CWM6 (6.0.5.3) through Odin, it gave me the following error (in both cases, native recovery with every ZIP I tried to flash and CWM also):
"Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installation <something>
Installation aborted."
After this manipulations, I can't even obtain root access on my phone and I have 3 apps installed, because it's out of memory. I heard that it could be because the file system remained in MTD and it is not compatible, but, if it's like this, how can I return to YAFFS2?
It does not install any ZIP, so I can flash nothing. Nor custom firmwares, nor other fixes (like root) and CWM also.
Please, help!

Simply flash stock rom via odin - this will convert your file system back to rfs for use with stock based roms (cm roms use ext file system)
You can then root the phone and flash a temp cwm or a kernel of your choice for stock based roms with cwm built in
stock rom firmware is found on my firmware thread - Links either in signature or top of firmware thread
Tried it already on a lot if version (XXKI6, XXLK3 and another ones), not working, but I'll try one more time today.

make sure you are using the firmware from my thread (the ones you have quoted are old firmwares) - they are wipe packs and will format your system when flashing
I would use this one if you are in Europe

Thx, I'll try it

Then there is either a problem with the way you are flashing it or you flashed wrong files on your phone in the past and you may need to include the pit file with the rest of the firmware - you can find the pit file for galaxy y 5360 with an easy google search - there is an xda thread with it
All firmware on my thread is confirmed working and the Europe one I have used myself - So if using the pit file doesn't work along with the firmware file then I would take it to a repair shop

you flash it all at the same time
PIT and your wipe firmware flashed at the same time haven't fixed it, the FS is broken. Any other ways or I have to prepare money for the service center?
try to format all partition ( data+system+cache ) and flash a stock rom

[Q] Troubleshooting ROM Install Issue

Ok, so I had a quick question before I do something stupid. I've been trying to install ROMs on my g900v but some fail, and some are successful. I do the same steps with all ROMs; wipe, install, boot. Some of them just won't install.
My question is: Do I have to have matching firmware or kernal installed prior to flashing the ROM for it to install successfully? (i.e. NK2 firmware on my phone would prevent a ROM made with NI2 firmware from installing)

Yes, have to be the same firmware version. You are referring to flashing through safestrap, correct?
Yes, using safestrap. So I have to have the matching firmware flashed before I attempt to flash there ROM? Also do I need to flash the kernel? Or does flashing the firmware include the kernal?

All you have to do is flash the firmware only tar nothing else. When you install whatever rom you want just boot into download mode after you install the rom then flash the firmware in odin. Each rom thread has the installation instructions in the op which should also have a link to the firmware needed for that rom.

Ok, my issue starts before that then. I go to install, we'll say Optimal ROM since that's the last one I had trouble with, and it says failed on the install. I wipe, and I have the proper firmware installed beforehand, but it still fails. I'm stumped.

Don't know why it's failing for you as long as you're doing a full wipe then flashing the rom (make sure the md5 matches on your rom download) then flash the firmware you shouldn't have a problem.

So the md5 for the firmware has to match the md5 for the ROM I'm trying to install? I mean I'm not new to this stuff, but the newer everything gets, the more complicated it gets, ya know. new phone for me and its a little more complicated this time around.

No what i was saying is after you download a rom you should check to make sure the md5 of that rom matches the posted md5 that's under every rom link. If your downloaded rom's md5 doesn't match what's posted then you got a bad download and you'll need to download the rom again till the md5 matches. Im thinking you have a bad download since you're failing installing certain roms. There's a few md5 checkers in the playstore or you can use a file manager like Astro file which i use to check my md5. That's the first place i would start if a rom failed to install.

S4 GT-9505 Boot loop: just before boot animation starts it restarts

Hi guys,
i have read a lot of articles and tried a lot of combinations... problem still there.
My problem is on GT-I9505 when I start the phone, only after the first start after new firmware update, I could see for a second animated samsung logo but seems that is collorized (some red, lila colors on it ) and then black screen, vibration and restart. The blue light will blink all the time.
I'm able to get into download mode and recovery mode (if is called like that)
What all i tried - some of them:
-tried to install with Odin new/old firmware. Everytime it is successfully but the problem still there
-tried to wipe to the factory
-tried with odin also ROM to put (not sure if is possible this if phone is not rooted and it is not, because i don't know how to do that if i can't boot it)
Any help?
Tnx
You can't put a custom rom on it through Odin. You will need a custom recovery for that, which can be flashed with Odin.
Then you can flash custom roms. Google s4 twrp or i9505 twrp, you should get to the twrp site from where you can download the recovery and you can also find instructions.

Ah... I tried also another ROM. Still same.

E: Aborting zip install
MD5 does not match
Error installing zip file '/external_sd/.....
Updating partition details...

MD5 errors are usually caused by the file not being downloaded correctly.
I know, but if i don't put I md5sum file nexto to the zip ROM, then immediately check error appears. I'm using check md5 app and i have checked the file also on SD card...
This S4 is from Austria T-Mobile...seems so hard to install custom ROM. I'm not able also from CWR to install from zip.
I tried also different ROM-s. Is not possible that all 5 zip ROM are corrupted in download. When i check with MD5 checker says OK.
Only what I could install from SD was Supers user.zip (that should be root phone)
If somebody has some suggestion I would appreciate otherwise i will give up.

Samsung SM-N9005 (without rom) with TWRP v2.8.3.0 can't install any zip by error

Hello to everyone,
The other day my brother bring me his samsung galaxy note 3 sm-N9005 and told me that doesn't work, just only can enter in TWRP (v2.8.3.0) or in download mode. I tried to install a rom and update version of TWRP, but always i have the same message:
checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found
error flashing zip '/sdcard/TWRP/twrp-2.8.7.0-hlte-4.2-img-zip'
Updating partition details...
.. done
When i try to install a ROM from zip file, i have the same problem
I try to generate a md5 file from zip TWRP in computer and then copy to sd card and install from TWRP by sdcard or internal memory of phone, but always i have the same problem.
I dunno what else do. Please can anyone help me?
thanks

Post does not make much sense.
I suggest flash stock rom via Odin first .
There are some major flaws:
1) There is no Android 4.2-designed TWRP for the phone. You must be using wrong file.
2) Why are you trying to install old version?
3) File name is completely wrongly formatted.
For the solution, I assume the phone has or will be having Android 4.4 KitKat or newer.
You have 2 options here:
1) Download twrp-2.8.7.0-hlte-4.4.zip and install it via current TWRP recovery (can not be done in stock recovery).
2) Download twrp-3.0.2-0-hlte.img.tar and install it via ODIN.
This is the site to find the correct files - https://dl.twrp.me/hlte/
To previous poster - Flashing stock firmware does not help achieve his desired result. Just a waste of time.
continue without installing
Hi Someguyfromhell,
Thanks for reply i have some doubts and questions about you reply, but first of all i want to tell you that i dunno anything about android so when you tell me some words i don't understand i'm iOS user.
In point 1) when you say "there is no Android 4.2 TWRP what do you refer? Because in any moment in my first post i don't say anything about 4.2.
In point 2) when you refer to install old version do you refer about TWRP? Well i tried this one, because new ones i can't install by odin. When i do it, and all process finished, phone don't enter in teamwin option, always reboot.
3) Can you explain to me about why file name is wrongly formatted?
Well i tried to install TWRP 3.0.2 by odin, but as i told you, phone don't enter in TWRP application, just appear in main screen where there is samsung galaxy note 3 SM-N9005:
Recovery booting...
Recovery is not seandroind enforcing
set warranty Bit: recovery
And don't move from this screen...
When you say install TWRP v2.8.7.0 via current TWRP recovery, how is this process? i try to look for in internet, but i didn't find anything. Can you explain to me?
About ROM, well as i told in first post now i don't have anyone, because always appear the error about MD5 and i can't install nothing can you recomend me a ROM and where to download it and how to install of course!
thanks a lot!

I don't know where you got such file from though. Does not seem to be an actual zip file if it fails flashing. Or the recovery script is messed up.
TWRP download sites do not have such option at all.

My bad, that feature is only on 2.8.4.0 and newer recoveries. You will have to flash the recovery with ODIN.
What happens if you try to flash a ROM? (which ROM and send logs)
Also, you do not have to create MD5 file. It is there to check for the archive integrity, isn't the reason for flash failing. Has to be another error.
Hi again,
Well i did process about TWRP V2.8.7.0 as you told me by odin and worked well, so now i have this version of TWRP
Thanks.
About ROMs, I downloaded few ones like:
1) N9005XXUGBOA5_N9005XEOGBOA4_XEO.zip
2) SOKP-L-5.1.1-LMY48B-R4.0-OFFICIAL-20150613-hlte
3) XEC-N9005XXUGBOK6-20160122145457.zip
4) N9005XXUGBNL8 5.0.(7z) ---> This one is 7z file where inside have 4 files: AP_N9005XXUGBNL8_CL3643614_QB3415922_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar; BL_N9005XXUGBNL8_CL3643614_QB3415922_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar; CP_N9005XXUGBNL8_CL3643614_QB3415922_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar and CS_OXA_N9005XXUGBNL8_CL3643614_QB3415922_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
And tried to install, by this process:
1.- Copy 1) , 2) and 3) to ROMs to sdcard in PC, 4) ROM i think that is only for Odin, but i dunno how to do it
2.- Ejecute TWRP in phone, I copy 1) , 2) and 3) ROMs from sdcard_external to internal memory of phone in folder sdcard.
3.- In TWRP i go to Install option and choose the ROMs.
Well so I Tried 3 first and only the 2) tell me succesfull, but then not boot roms, appear a message on the top right that says: "kernel is not seandroid enforcing set warranty Bit: kernel".
with 1) and 3), says me about error, that no MD5:
checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found
error flashing zip '/sdcard/N9005XXUGBOA5_N9005XEOGBOA4_XEO.zip'

thanks again

First and third are zip files, that are not recovery-flashable - inside the archive are the original firmware files that can be flashed via Odin. Only (custom) ROMs, that have recovery-script inside zip file, can be flashed in TWRP.

Installed wrong kernel for my galaxy note 4 ( SM-N916K )

Hiii guys
I just messed up my phone ahahahahahahah ( lol I am going crazy )
I wanted to install a Galaxy Note 7 Porting (?) Rom on my Note 4.
The rom and the kernel I installed is supposed to be only installed on n910c/h.
I cannot find any kernel for this phone..
The problem going on my phone is :
- I tried installing a stock rom back on my phone and it shows up DRK error. ( Its saying DRK is not installed )
- Whenever I charge my phone when its off, I cannot even turn it on. It will freeze so I have to reinstall the battery to turn it on.
- I managed to install some other roms but it only shows black screen.
- No problems on the recovery. Recovery supports my model.
can someone help me to find a kernel for this phone? I am keep googling to save this phone.
( nah should I just throw away this phone and get a new one? lol jk )
I FIXED MY PHONE!
- First, download the stock .md5 file from https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N916K/. OR if you can understand Korean, http://www.matcl.com/torrent/3013489. ( This website is more faster to download but requires you to register )
- Second, get the .md5 file by extracting the .zip file.
- Third, Install the .md5 file.
- Now, it will show the DRK error.
- Install CF-Auto Root https://download.chainfire.eu/834/C...to-Root-tre3caltektt-tre3caltektt-smn916k.zip
- Be patient, phone will be rebooting for 3~4 times.
- Now you're done!
+ I will keep this thread open just in case some other people needs help.

Download stock firmware for your device and you can extract the kernel.
You have to rename the stock firmware from (home.tar.md5) to (.zip)
Then extract the file you will get (boot.img) thats the kernel.
Copy to device and flash from twrp recovery (flash image) method.

Your DRK (DEVICE ROOT KEY) is messed up.
Try on your own risk.
Go to www.tsar3000.com and download repair firmware for your model .
Extract repair firmware you will get 5 files (BL,AP,CP,CSC,PIT FILE ) go to odin options and check "nand erase all".
flash all files together from odin then do factory reset from stock recovery.
Hopefully this will help.
