Merge contacts - Streak 5 General

Anyone else unable to merge any contacts using froyo? It always says no contact saved when I try. Can't merge to regular contacts or merge a textbook contact with a regular one. All my contacts are synced from gmail.

I have been able to merge contacts on my streak using Froyo build 318. I am NOT using DJ Steves build.

How did u merge them? Dont see it on my stock froyo.

Did you do anything special? All my contacts came from my gmail account. I can't merge any of them. Every time I try it says contact not saved and tries to make me create a new one.

Anyone else able to merge contacts on official froyo that can comment if they did anything special?

Samsung fascinate Computer software

So i got this phone about a month ago and it came with no software what so ever.
Is there anything we can download to at least back this phone up?
It seems extremely cheap to provide no software with a phone designed to be plugged into a computer
drivers are avaliable on samsungs site. other than that have to searched the market for back up programs? i know some have been talked about on here so a search might net you some info.
Exactly what do you want to back up? Contacts and calendar back up to gmail automatically, as do any photos you upload to picasa. Files on the sd card are not lost in a wipe. If you root, apps will back up via titanium. When froyo hits they will back up automatically and restore if you wipe or replace your device.
I might not be understanding the question.

I don't think I've ever seen ANY Android phone come with any software out of the box. Any drivers you need can be downloaded, and there is no official Android sync software, though you can download one of many third party syncing applications that are available. What exactly are you comparing the Fascinate to in this regard?

im coming from a blackberry. i hated that thing, but the software was great. I could backup everything, mess with new hybrid os's and if i didnt like it, click on the last restore point and it would be right there. ive never had an android before, so this is new to me, and i will be having this phone for two years now, so i figure its time to start learning

Well you're in the right place. Your question smelled of blackberry. first question then, are you going to, or have you already rooted your device?

Contacts do not back up to Gmail unless those contacts were added to Gmail contact list.. If they were transferred from a bb to android, they are most likely only stored in the phones contact list

The reps at the store can port them to gmail if there are too many to manually switch.

Contacts syncing

I'm making this as a new post in the general section for a reason. The Gingerblur thread is too crazy and moving too fast for a question like this and I'm also not even sure that this is Gingerblur related.
The problem I'm having is with my Contact information staying synced on the phone. It seems that no matter how many times I edit a contact, particularly the contacts photo that should be supplied by FaceBook, it won't stick. I am trying to get this to work correctly but haven't found a way to do it. I would like everyones contact information in my phone to be synced with facebook and pull their photos down from facebook and link to their profiles. It appears that this OS has everything required to do that but it's just not functioning correctly. Some of my contacts have the right facebook pictures, but a lot of them have none at all. I also have duplicate entries and some other anomolies as well.
Is there a setting I'm missing?

I have this problem also. For example, Ill text someone and their picture won't show up in the text thread, even though the contact is synced with Facebook.

Yes that too. Or sometime the pics will.be there in the text thread itself but it wont be when you're looking at all the text threads. Really glitchy.

Auto number change app please.

Ok let's say you have to change your number for what ever reason and you hate going through the pain of having to send a mass text or calling people telling them your new number. Wouldn't it be cool if there was a app that would change your contact info automactically in the phones of the people that have your previous number? I do understand that people change there number so that they no longer wish to speak to certain people but there would be an option that would let you pick the people who number you want update in there phones. Just wanted to put this out there and see what y'all think of this idea.

Let me see if I understand what you are asking for. You want an app that will remotely modify the phones of everyone who has your contact information?
Don't hold you breath on this.

Would this app also be able to delete your number from their phone? What about all their other contacts? I was thinking you can also download their pictures with this app and maybe do some tinkering with their credit report?
Just keep your phone number on Facebook, make sure all your "friends and contacts" are on your facebook and tell them to use the Facebook contact info for you, and then change your number each time on Facebook. I get a few changed phone numbers that way.

just give everyone your google voice number. then who cares what your real cell number is.. you can change it all you want the friends w/ your gVoice number will be none the wiser
Not even remotely feasible. There's really no way to modify other people's stored contacts, unless someone creates a program where everyone's contact information is synced to a centralized server (such as Facebook sync, which you have already eliminated).
This first assumes that everyone you know has a phone capable of syncing with Facebook or whatever centralized server is being used. People with non-smartphones or other incompatible devices would automatically be excluded.
This next assumes that they actually have their contacts set up to sync with Facebook or other central service. Some of us just don't sync our contacts with anything more than our Gmail or Exchange accounts, I wouldn't want to have to sync with yet another online server unless my friends were changing their numbers every day. I'd rather them just tell me their number lol.
If you don't want to actually post your number on your Facebook info or wall (which is actually a good idea IMO), you can just make a post saying "Hey, I have a new number, send me a private message to get it". You can also just send a message to those that you're interested in giving your number to, and so on and so on.

There's an app that can Forward a Mass count of txt message's. i forgot what it was called though =/ but then u could send ur new number via txt much faster and easier.

Calendar and Birthdays Issue

I notice when I save peoples birthdays under their contact, their birthday appears on the calendar, which is good. The issue is though, this same thing does not apply for birthdays that I saved last year or prior. The calendar only reflects newly saved birthdays but does not reflect the old saved ones. Is there a way to fix this?

My fb birthday all show with no issues. It's only birthdays actually saved to my phone. I've resaved a few birthdays in my phone and then they show, but that's what I'm trying to avoid...going in a resaving everything I've already saved.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
My problem is I get repeat birthdays in calendar if I have their birthday saved in my gmail contact and they also put their birthday in their facebook profile. You think this smartphone would be smart enough to only display the birthday once, especially when the FB and phone/gmail contact is linked.

Pls Help!Contacts synchronization with Facebook

I have my Note from a week now and I love it,but my last phone was HTC Desire HD,and dare I say that HTC have better personalized their phones. For instance when you add a new contact it automatically suggests a fb contact to merge. This does not happen with the Note, when I deleted a contact and entered again I couldn't manage to merge them again and to put that person fb picture on his contact.
I know that there must be a way,and I am a person that has changed many phones but this is the first time that I thing that Samsung does not have very user friendly system compared to HTC.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.
