HTC tells Magic, Dream owners on Rogers: No Donut for you!
They don't care about consumers? I suggest to remember them who pay the bill...
Thats really messed up, and i believe that rogers is to blame for this, ppl been in contact with them for months and they said they had it in the labs testing, now we know that it was all lies, i'm got fed up a week ago and i rooted min and i'm running Amon RA 1.6.2 Donut rom, the same rome that HTC/Rogers says can't run on my rogers phone.
I'm not using a rogers sim in mine, and i hope most of the android customers leave the company, hit them where it hurts, their profit margin.............
Throw Cyanogen on there, also there's other roms like the one listed above.
Screw em, customize til youre content

Screw Rogers (and Canadian wireless providers in general).
This is why I'm on the xda-dev forums, so that I don't have to wait an eternity for Rogers to get their freaking act together (spoiler: It won't ever happen).

To me, the problem is not costuming ROM or not, but We have a BIG problem with telecommunication in Canada, I'm a little bored about that... And I study in Electronic and Telecom... Haha, vengeance!!
yeah couldve told anyone that rogers dont give a damn about their consumers. Just know that any possible upgrades will nevercome. Their version of upgrade is get a new device and even that aint good cause theynever get the right devices. Telus got the touch pro 2, hero, they'r getting the droid/Milestone. rogers dont give two ****s but oh well. Now that telus has gsm we'll see how fast they lose customers. I hate telus to but at least i got better options and can still stick with android.

They are not all same, so just choice for the price? Except for Bell, they are on the side (and under) of that...
does any one have the original updated vodafone uk rom? htc website wont let my update it
there isnt any new ones
I cant see any new ones coming untill feb, march time next year
You can however probably use the Gold Card method to flash over to one of the standard WWE roms if that's what you want.
Side benefit is getting rid of any Voda Customizations

your warrenty will however be non existant
There are no Vodafone customisations on the UK released device and as for the warranty you will lose your Vodafone warranty but you will retain your HTC warranty. With regard to the Vodafone warranty if you flash to 1.48 via HTC site and then in a few months time your device develops a fault, theres a good chance that VF will have released the 1.48 update by then which I would say (considering the original release wasnt customised) is unlikely to be different from HTC's official release so VF wont be able to tell the difference.
But as always any decision you make is on your own head.
If Vodafone with the TouchPro are anything to go by then they won't release any updates until their forum is overflowing with complaints. Best bet is to wait for a HSPL hack and then you can load anything you want. By then the stock ROM should be available from the WIKI for reflashing incase of problems. Also be aware that Vodafone have previously asked for phones to be returned to get the ROM upgrade! Many people reported getting back 2nd-hand (but not their own) phones - I intend waiting this time , can't be long until the hack is released and we get flooded with tempting alternatives?
Vodafone today issued a 1.66 ROM and they stopped selling the phone to non-business customers in December. If they can support existing customers with updates then why cannot O2, especially considering O2 still sell the phone!!!
I don't want to load a cooked ROM, so lets push O2 for a new ROM and continued support including WM 6.5.3.
Sere my poll on the O2 forums in the XDA board
Thanks
Mike
I am quite happy with my cooked rom, i hate all the crap o2 stick in their roms, the fist thing i did was get rid of their rom.

I just asked this question in another thread but more relevant here:
I've been on o2 for years through carphone warehouse and i have never been given a branded phone. My HD2 serial is able to download the 1.66 rom from HTC site and update. Why is my phone not branded ? i'm not moaning!!! just curious
Some shops sell unbranded/vendor locked phones - Phones4U sell the HD2 on VF unbranded too...I think it's better practice as it means less people coming back to kick off at them!

Agreed! O2 should really provide decent support for the phone. I have flashed a cooked ROM but it would be nice to know O2 were working on getting an updated ROM I can fall back on.
They shouldn't release a locked and branded device if they aren't willing to provide software updates.
I`ve been with O2 for years, you won`t get many rom upgrades. Maybe one every 6 months. For the first year then they`ll maybe 1 a year after that. Why should they, they`ve got your money, the stock O2 rom has little bugs in it, why risk introducing more bugs....
Get flashing,, nothing to be afraid of.............

Im just curious, what kind of crap do you mean?
I Used my Diamond on the O2 Rom, they provided updates for that, so I can't see why there not for the HD2 yet.
Theres nothing wrong with my HD2 to warrant a Rom update, but its always nice to have the up-to-date rom.
Also, I have never used a custom Rom as there are just too many to choose from and never find one I truely like. So I'm happy with what I got.
I have an o2 HD2 and used the HTC site to download the 1.66 ROM and flashed that. No problems what so ever. I think all mine had was the o2 wallpaper I don't remember seeing anything else "o2" about the phone.
The "o2 get settings" is from the USIM so once I had flashed I used the get settings and then from the connection manager told it the UK and o2 and that did the rest. I do not see why you want an official 1.66 when the only thing I think you will get is the wallpaper?
I must say I never had issues with o2's 1.43 however I did not run it long before flashing. I do thou; find 1.66 fantastic and with cookies home screen mods; even better.
SW.
Promised O2 ROM release

In which country?
cheers, alkorsi
Not so sure about that, just got this reply from O2:
Good morning Michael
Thanks for emailing us abut the updated ROM for the HTC HD2 phone. I understand that Vodafone released a 1.66 ROM on 22 February 2010 and they stopped selling the phone to non business customers in December 2009. I'll quickly let you know about it.
Michael, I'd like to tell you that we currently have the ROM: 1.43.206.4 version. I've sent the software upgrade steps to you via another email, in case you need it. Unfortunately, we don't have the 1.66 ROM version yet, once it's available with us, we'll be able to help you with it.
Unfortunately, we're unable to comment about Vodafone having this software. You can call our customer service team on 0870 600 3009 and they'll transfer your call to our data support team, for any further information.
Kind regards
O2 Customer Service

Still no new ROM from O2, just lots of reported availability dates that are never met.
Come on O2 pull your finger out!

Why cant you guys just flash it unofficially???? Aside from installing HSPL, there isnt any difference.
Seriously, just install the official HTC 1.66 rom then, that's not cooked and basically the same... it's not so hard... Who would want an operator bloated rom, anyways?
To install the official ROM will involve loading HSPL as my serial number is locked to O2. Why should I have to invalidate my warranty to keep up with the latest fixes - I don't have to do this with other Microsoft software!!!!
well then you are at the mercy of O2
and you can always remove the hspl and put the original rom on if you need to send it back
Not if you have a major hardware failure!
I got my phone direct from o2, and there is no branding on it at all, not even a wallpaper. Downloaded the new ROM from the 1.66 and will flash that this next week.
Are o2 supplying Branded & Unbranded HD2's ??
All my other HTC phones have been branded by them.
It's only recently that some of the HD2 phones they supply are unbranded, all early adaptors got locked O2 branded phones. The only difference between branded and unbranded is the startup wallpaper and the removal of the WiFi router.
Hi, does anyone know if locked Streaks will still have full functionality for those of us who are using Rebelsim II ver 1.2 after the upgrade to Froyo 2.2 ? I need my phone as a business tool and don't want to take the risk of upgrading when the official update becomes available shortly, then finding phone & 3g functionality is buggy. I'm still on stock 1.6 at the moment and altho a bit short on features, at least the phone works fairly dependably at the moment using Rebelsim.
Wish we could just get a straightforward unlock solution for the O2 Streak (without sending the handset across the waters, that is).
Thanks for your input.
Rebelsimcard II firmware v1.2 doesn't work with 2.2 android.
I have uprgaded rebelsimcard firmware to 1.3beta and it doesn't work.
So better stay on android 1.6 or crappy 2.1.
Or send your dell streak to dellstreakunlock.com for software factory unlock.

Damn, that sucks! Sending my phone away is just not feasible. Have you notified Rebelsim of the problem so they can work on a working firmware? Or even better, provide us with the unlock code that we can input ourselves (at a fee of course).
I've used contact form on the dellstreakunlock.com website but so far no reply.
I'm waiting too for the update and stuck with 2.2 and I'm using old phone for calls...

Come on Rebelsim ...If you can really software unlock the Streak as you claim, then why can't it be done remotely? Most Rebelsim users are from remote locations (conceivably the most common need for the unlock) so shipping our Streaks is just too risky and inconvenient (& potentially costly). I'd rather pay some of those shipping charges towards your unlock fees instead.

Hi
i can assure we can unlock the Dell Streak Fully
i know the postal service is a not the best of options
Our Teams are working on enhancing the solution for the streak so users can use our services from remote locations without the need to physically send in like we have created for for unlocking for the Dell Mini 3 / Aero
We are currently working on both the Rebel sim II 2.2 update and remote unlock solution.
Soon as Development is complete on either solution will get back to you but their is no guarantee we will accomplish either but we are giving it ago.
RebelSimcard
I can't wait for rebelsim to unlock my O2 streak as well. I will be willing to pay good money for the remote unlocking service.
But in the mean time I have flashed my phone to Steve's 2.2 Rom version 1.5.2 with the no baseband version. Both phone function and 3G works perfect, although it does have some problem with the GPS
well, I didn't really even need to but I figured with the new baseband and dj_steves 2.2 froyo rolling I might as well unlock it as well.
I was referred to this site http://www.unlockcellphonecode.com
and i eventually got a hold of a guy on support and he said dell doesnt have the codes that at&t does..but its a special database..
anyway..he got my code for me..
and it worked
just put in a different gsm sim and it brings up a screen with some holes and just touch the screen and it asks if you want to enter the network code.
its 8 digits..
AT&T locked, I presume?!?! Why is life so unfair to us O2-locked Streak owners?!?!? Lol!
Because o2 haven't considered that guys like you and me will never risk buying a locked o2 phone again ;-).
If they relaxed there stuborn approach to locking then maybe more people would trust them to unlock their pride & joy phones instead of treating them like prisoners.
I sold my o2 streak and bought a non-alcatraz version (unlocked) aaahhh the joys of freeeeedom ;-)

Ok so a o2 can never get 3g when its unlocked?
