does any one have the original updated vodafone uk rom? htc website wont let my update it
there isnt any new ones
I cant see any new ones coming untill feb, march time next year
You can however probably use the Gold Card method to flash over to one of the standard WWE roms if that's what you want.
Side benefit is getting rid of any Voda Customizations

your warrenty will however be non existant
There are no Vodafone customisations on the UK released device and as for the warranty you will lose your Vodafone warranty but you will retain your HTC warranty. With regard to the Vodafone warranty if you flash to 1.48 via HTC site and then in a few months time your device develops a fault, theres a good chance that VF will have released the 1.48 update by then which I would say (considering the original release wasnt customised) is unlikely to be different from HTC's official release so VF wont be able to tell the difference.
But as always any decision you make is on your own head.
If Vodafone with the TouchPro are anything to go by then they won't release any updates until their forum is overflowing with complaints. Best bet is to wait for a HSPL hack and then you can load anything you want. By then the stock ROM should be available from the WIKI for reflashing incase of problems. Also be aware that Vodafone have previously asked for phones to be returned to get the ROM upgrade! Many people reported getting back 2nd-hand (but not their own) phones - I intend waiting this time , can't be long until the hack is released and we get flooded with tempting alternatives?

hi all
I am getting my hd2 from o2 soon and i was woundering what version of the rom it will have on it, Will it still ship with the old or the new 1.66 on it
most likely will have the 1.43 rom on it as 1.48 and 1.66 roms haven't passed accreditation yet. Chances are it will be a while before the 1.66 rom is officialy released by o2. You're better off using HSPL and installing the WWE 1.66 rom or a custom rom
I can confirm that my 2 week old O2 HD2 came with ROM 1.43 :-(
I'm thinking of upgrading it soon though
thought so, i work in o2 retail and our device information intranet site shows the latest rom for the o2 hd2 as 1.43, so you are better off just upgrading it through hspl

And I can confirm that this is the the best option. O2 take ages to release anything, they have been on the same ROM for 3 months now!
Received my branded HD2 from O2-UK 3/02/10 and confirm they are shipping with 1.43! :-( going to change that soon though. Ever since i installed HTC's hotfixes my phone stutters for no apparent reason?! Any ideals people?
i flash using sspl as its safer and you still get the new ROMs. bonus is that i have a copy of the original ROM which i can flash and you can not tell it was ever changed

sorry but I have to disagree somewhat with sspl being safer
to use, and would advise anyone choosing sspl over hspl to read carefully the sspl sticky.

Another 1.43 release here on an O2-branded HTC Leo HD2 bought on 07/02/10. Surprised how buggy it is - the volume control doesn't work within HTC Sense's Music Player (receive an error in services.exe) but the volume can be turned up and down (in larger steps) outside the music player. The notification area also stops accepting taps, until next reboot. The Start hard-key ceases to work after a while, until reboot. But otherwise it's an incredible machine and a huge improvement on the plodding tired Nokia N96.
maby you will take white iphone 3gs 16gb and swap with me ? i have hd2 from o2 from 15 dec 09 HSPL is done so you can flash any cooked rom
someone know where i can swap my hd2 for iphone? i live in bath, maby bristol ?
Is it worth it from O2 instead of unlocked?
It's a 24 month contract paying £25/month plus £89 which is £689 in total.
You can get it unlocked for £469.99 from play.com which saves you £220.
Which effectively means that if you are going to spend less than £220 in those 24 months using a cheap provider (less than £9.16 per month) you may be better of getting an unlocked one.

Is the O2 handset locked?
Where can you get a contract for £9 a month, especially one that includes unlimited internet?
Just wondering as surely that should be taken into consideration when you're choosing between sim-free or contract.

It really depends what sort of usage are you going to give it. I'm going to mainly use wifi at different places. I'm a sporadic user.
With £9 a month means with an Asda PAYG card that you can use at 20p/MB, 45MB of internet per month.
If you are going to use more than that every month, then the O2 offer is better.
Vodafone today issued a 1.66 ROM and they stopped selling the phone to non-business customers in December. If they can support existing customers with updates then why cannot O2, especially considering O2 still sell the phone!!!
I don't want to load a cooked ROM, so lets push O2 for a new ROM and continued support including WM 6.5.3.
Sere my poll on the O2 forums in the XDA board
Thanks
Mike
I am quite happy with my cooked rom, i hate all the crap o2 stick in their roms, the fist thing i did was get rid of their rom.

I just asked this question in another thread but more relevant here:
I've been on o2 for years through carphone warehouse and i have never been given a branded phone. My HD2 serial is able to download the 1.66 rom from HTC site and update. Why is my phone not branded ? i'm not moaning!!! just curious
Some shops sell unbranded/vendor locked phones - Phones4U sell the HD2 on VF unbranded too...I think it's better practice as it means less people coming back to kick off at them!

Agreed! O2 should really provide decent support for the phone. I have flashed a cooked ROM but it would be nice to know O2 were working on getting an updated ROM I can fall back on.
They shouldn't release a locked and branded device if they aren't willing to provide software updates.
I`ve been with O2 for years, you won`t get many rom upgrades. Maybe one every 6 months. For the first year then they`ll maybe 1 a year after that. Why should they, they`ve got your money, the stock O2 rom has little bugs in it, why risk introducing more bugs....
Get flashing,, nothing to be afraid of.............

Im just curious, what kind of crap do you mean?
I Used my Diamond on the O2 Rom, they provided updates for that, so I can't see why there not for the HD2 yet.
Theres nothing wrong with my HD2 to warrant a Rom update, but its always nice to have the up-to-date rom.
Also, I have never used a custom Rom as there are just too many to choose from and never find one I truely like. So I'm happy with what I got.
I have an o2 HD2 and used the HTC site to download the 1.66 ROM and flashed that. No problems what so ever. I think all mine had was the o2 wallpaper I don't remember seeing anything else "o2" about the phone.
The "o2 get settings" is from the USIM so once I had flashed I used the get settings and then from the connection manager told it the UK and o2 and that did the rest. I do not see why you want an official 1.66 when the only thing I think you will get is the wallpaper?
I must say I never had issues with o2's 1.43 however I did not run it long before flashing. I do thou; find 1.66 fantastic and with cookies home screen mods; even better.
SW.
Promised O2 ROM release

Not so sure about that, just got this reply from O2:
Good morning Michael
Thanks for emailing us abut the updated ROM for the HTC HD2 phone. I understand that Vodafone released a 1.66 ROM on 22 February 2010 and they stopped selling the phone to non business customers in December 2009. I'll quickly let you know about it.
Michael, I'd like to tell you that we currently have the ROM: 1.43.206.4 version. I've sent the software upgrade steps to you via another email, in case you need it. Unfortunately, we don't have the 1.66 ROM version yet, once it's available with us, we'll be able to help you with it.
Unfortunately, we're unable to comment about Vodafone having this software. You can call our customer service team on 0870 600 3009 and they'll transfer your call to our data support team, for any further information.
Kind regards
O2 Customer Service

Why cant you guys just flash it unofficially???? Aside from installing HSPL, there isnt any difference.
Seriously, just install the official HTC 1.66 rom then, that's not cooked and basically the same... it's not so hard... Who would want an operator bloated rom, anyways?
To install the official ROM will involve loading HSPL as my serial number is locked to O2. Why should I have to invalidate my warranty to keep up with the latest fixes - I don't have to do this with other Microsoft software!!!!
well then you are at the mercy of O2
and you can always remove the hspl and put the original rom on if you need to send it back
Not if you have a major hardware failure!
I got my phone direct from o2, and there is no branding on it at all, not even a wallpaper. Downloaded the new ROM from the 1.66 and will flash that this next week.
Are o2 supplying Branded & Unbranded HD2's ??
All my other HTC phones have been branded by them.
It's only recently that some of the HD2 phones they supply are unbranded, all early adaptors got locked O2 branded phones. The only difference between branded and unbranded is the startup wallpaper and the removal of the WiFi router.
First I want thank all members of xda-dev for the great work! I would like to know everyones pros and cons for buying a retail HD2 or going with Tmo US when they release it March 24th? Is the retail device any better without the Tmo crapware? Also, what warranty issues may I encounter? I am currently with AT&T (family plan) and considering a seperate account just for this device $$$$. Thank you all in advance for your help. rawhide85
well since you are att the only difference in the 2 (once you load a custom ROM) is the tmobile us device has more internal ROM. The tmobile device also has colored buttons THe tmobile one is a better choice for the ROM only, they are identical devices other than that. Well... unless it is determined that the EU version actually has the 1gb ROM and it is just hidden. TO date i do not believe that has been determined
if you open a new account then unless you go with a tmobile account, it still doesnt matter. Warranty will be the same ...
As for now, we don't know if HTC HD2 EU has got 1GB of ROM or not.
I think that it's better to take the TMOUS version: you'll be sure that you'll have 1GB of ROM!
Apart from the ROM size (512MB/1GB) they're the same device.
What are the pros/cons of retail vs Tmo contract?
Thanks all for your help.

hi guys...
i am wondering if any1 here has tried flashing their Samsung Galaxy S on orange network. I will be getting one next week and want to know that will i be able to flash the latest firmware from samsung on the fly or do i have to wait for orange to release their own custom firmware.
also does the phone comes unlocked from orange ?
cheers
Mine is from Mobiles.co.uk and is with Orange and came unlocked. That surprised me! So with any luck yours might not be locked at all.
Orange themselves don't supply unlocked phones. If you bought yours from a 3rd party retailer such as mobiles.co.uk then it might well come unlocked. Orange will unlock handsets they have supplied for you, but not in the first 3 months of contract, and they'll charge you £20 for the privilege.
As with other networks, Orange have to approve the ROMs that are pushed out to handsets provided by themselves. In my experience, they have been one of the slowest networks to do so, and also tend to tamper more with the stock ROMs than other networks. When I used to have Nokia smartphones, they were months behind other versions of the ROM, which drove me mad. When I then moved onto Windows Mobile, I ended up flashing ROMs I'd downloaded as I was sick of Orange's stock ROM's being seriously buggy.
I don't see why they would be any different with an Android/Samsung handset.
hey thx for the reply
i will be getting it from orange as mine is an upgrade..also does it make a difference if the phone is locked i wont be able to flash it ? i am willing to flash to a newer firmware/OS if i can go back to the stock rom if anything goes wrong with my phone and i have to send it back to orange..
Hi, I got one on Orange on contract and I've flashed mine... no problems...
hey thx for the reply ukboy..i am getting my galaxy S this week
cheers all
So I can flash Galaxy S safety even if I have simlock from orange?
Should this make or break my decision whether to purchase one or not? I'm new to this scene and I'm not too sure what the differences are besides the carrier-installed apps.

Hey. Unbranded vs Branded matters only if you don't want to wait for updates to be released since carriers have custom firmware whereas unbranded handsets will be able to apply new firmware as soon as the manufacturer releases it.
However, since your a member on XDA, this shows you may be interested in custom roms and modifying your phone. The above therefore does not matter because as soon as a new update/firmware is released, XDA have it and we can all (unbranded/branded) install it...
If you know that you won't be modifying your phone and sticking with stock then go for the carrier option as this is usually subsidised and cheaper than the unbranded 'sim-free' option... however updates will take longer than those with unbranded phones...(however as I said above... you don;t have to wait for updates if your part of XDA)
Either way, you could buy the branded version and debrand it by installing an unbranded stock rom and then installing a custom rom/kernel if you like.
If the phone is physically branded (e.g. The phone has a T-Mobile logo printed on it) I would always go for the sim-free / unbranded one in that case because for me it ruins the look of the phone.
Also your point about carrier bundled apps... carriers usually bundle bloatware/crapware with there branded phones... however you can easily uninstall these applications so its no big deal if it saves you money buying a carrier branded handset.
To add something to the above post from jUsT2eXy.
You can always get the branded version cheaper, change the back cover since most Carrier put their logo on the bottom back side and unlock it.
Worth the extra hassle? Can't say since I never done it.

Thanks a lot for the replies!
I usually would buy branded phones from the carrier, but I live in the US and the SGN isn't available here yet. Since I'm still new to this, I don't think I'll be doing any kind of software modifications yet.
Someone mentioned that they received an e-plus branded unlocked SGN. I was just a little confused about what that meant.
If I do have an unlocked, let's say, e-plus branded SGN, would I still be able to receive updates even if I'm not running on their network?
Since I'm going to go out of my way to order a SGN from overseas, I might as well get an unbranded one right? The problem is, I already ordered one from Germany and I'm not sure if it's unbranded or not. It should be coming in tomorrow morning. If it is branded, do you think it's worth the hassle to return/sell it back out and order an unbranded one?
If you could please provide a link of where you bought it we might able to provide better assist/advice to you.
