I keep hitting something when im typing on the keyboard that acts like a permanent shift
one minute im typing letters, and then suddenly it switches over so that all the "blue" characters and typing in.
for instance the numbers, the [email protected]#% and so on
I cant figure out how to switch it back so have to softreset
anyone know what i keep hitting?
close this thread, found it
its double tapping the blue circle on the keyboard
driving me crazy!
read http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39097 or search for other posts similar to have a display of caps/number & symbol shifting
EDIT: post same as Beeble's , didn't followed his link
I have found that if I have hit the little blue square (for function) and then hit a wrong key (say I hit Fn + ? and I get # but I wanted the number 9) so I hit backspace...it deletes instead as if the Fn button was still active, and will keep doing so until you hit any other key which will type normally, and then backspace will work again. Not the end of the world but happens to me often enough to be annoying!

Hrm, I haven't experienced this bug myself, but are you sure you didn't accidently hit the Fn key twice, putting it in Fn-Lock mode? It works the same way as the Shift key.
hello
i have the same problem it does happen very often
I have the swedish version and I can't reproduce this bug.
Which ROM do you have?
Yes, backspace / delete bug
Yes, I have exactly this problem as well.
I have X1i, UK version.
ROM: 1.02.931.3 (08/29/08)
I presume this is the latest ROM as well, as I've run the Sony tool to try and fix this problem.
As a note, I do have CE Star installed (chinese display). And I've also tried playing with the Glyph settings, no change to this problem.
Anyone have any idea how to solve it?
As an interesting note, in PocketPutty (the SSH client) backspace and space do not work... I'm wondering if this is a related problem. But maybe not.
Hope that helps.
I have a swedish X1 and something like this bug happening.
I can't say if it's exactly the same thing but sometimes the backspace becomes delete instead and I have to push some other keys to get it back to normal.
I called SE about it and some other things today. He said they didn't have any reports of it before but he would forward my report.
I've experienced this as well. Annoying. But what's even more annoying is the bug that throws around the Swedish letters ÅÄÖ when typing text messages...
This is still affecting me, according to the Sony update program I also have the latest firmware.
Anyone have any idea on this or a workaround? It is VERY annoying.
I had this problem on my TyTN II.
The FN key is a bit longer active after pressing a button.
I havn't withnised this problem on the xperia.
Xperia keyboard is fast. But mayb it's cause i'm on custom ROM.
Same problem here guys!
i've got the X1i dutch version
rom 1.03.937.6
software version R2AA006
hope a new update will help! can't wait to get rid of it!
hey guys,
not sure if this has something to do with it...but i just deleted some htc keyboards i had installed and no problems in the first 3texts... let you know if it stays that way! maybe someone else has these keyboards installed??
hope it helps...
Hi all,
again, i dont like starting new threads, but I havent found anything about this keyboard bug im experiencing
I'm on 1.48.405.2 (71294)
So i'm SMS-ing with XT9 on and word completion:
If im typing away and end something with a QUESTION, like
"What are you doing today?"
I normally click the "12#" to change to symbol to select the question mark "?"
BUT i noticed EVERY SINGLE TIME when there is a WORD COMPLETION SUGGESTION hovering over the word and you CLICK "12#", the cursor will POP UP to the line ABOVE! (if i've gone past 1 line of text)
A word completion suggestion popup must be there before clicking "12#" for the cursor to pop up. But this is pretty basic for anyone typing a question.
this is SO annoying when i'm trynig to type fast and add a "?", cause then the cursor keeps popping up and screwing up my message...
Also another bug i noticed is when I receive a SMS, and in HTC Message i click on the message to go to Windows messaging..
Sometimes when i start to type (and it clearly says its oN XT9), no word completion pops up!
It's very intermittent, but the XT9 will be selected but just not work...
Anyone else experiecne this?
And better yet, does ANYONE HAVE A SOLUTION/REGISTRY TWEAK?
That cursor popping up when wanting to type a symbol is super annoying...
I installed the Less sensitivity cab but im not sure if that caused this?
Why don't you just hold down the 'k' key till the question mark pops up?
I'm facing the second problem of yours too. Sometimes the T9 is 'on' but it is not functioning. This is really annoying. I have to close the message go to home screen and come back into the message again to get it working.
I've been getting the Xt9 thing too at random times. Although I never goto the other symbols keyboard to do the '?'.
thanks for the replies guys
least i know im not the only one
yeah..i COULD hold the "k" to get the "?" ...i guess i can do that from now on.
But i find the 2 clicks is faster than holding the K...maybe its just me
Anyways, hopefully HTC is aware of this so they fix this..
The keyboard is used all the time so this is a pretty annoying thing to see
has anyone had the issue of replying to a text and it just comes out as numbers ??? you then have to go into the text option Turn on Turn off an option then press done and then letters will appear ?
My keyboard annoyances are accidentally turning off XT9 modemany times when trying to press the A key. Why did they have to put the XT9/ABC key right under the A key?
Also I get the XT9 turning off bug too from time to time even though it is turned on.

I get this problem sometimes. Its bloody annoying!
I usually go to menu>quick text then press back and usually that sorts it.
Hope they find a permanent fix to stop it happening though!!

I have the same problem sometimes. I uses the Phonepad and sometimes it will only type numbers.
I have talked to HTC (danish) and they will try to look at it.
Sometimes the XT9 doesnt show words at all. Ive got those two problems
Its a joke man i can believe theres so much issue with there sms functions
- im a Texter and this isnt good - please keep me updated as whatever they send you im going to forward to HTC uk!
These faults need to be bombarded over to HTC for a imminent fix !
WHAT HAPPENED TO THERE TESTER ????
I have reported this to HTC support, but didn't hear anything back, in fact I didn't get an auto-responder either so I hope they got my email.
i have same problem .....
when a message comes i reply key pad types ok
but when again message come i reply key pad starts typing digits
problem is with phone pad and compact qwery pad ......
i have mailed HTc via support
but have not got a response yet .?
I also experience that sometimes the XT9 doesnt work even though it is marked as "on". Also, Im not able to add new words to T9.
Any news about the problem. Any solutions???
Apologies if this has been discussed before-I've been searching the forum for two days and haven't found it yet.
Does anyone else have the behavior where if you are typing with the hardware keyboard and press space before letting up comma or period, it switches the order?
I type pretty quickly on my Desire Z, and if I press comma first then press space, it changes it to " ," if I don't let up completely on the comma and wait. This litters my writing with " ," and " .".
Has this been discussed here before? Is there any workaround? Space seems to be the only key that exhibits this behavior, and I've tried with letter+space, and that also doesn't happen, just comma+space and period+space, which suggests there is some sentence-ending prediction code running that could possibly be fixed?
I have all prediction and magical tricks turned off, and I have tried it with 1.72 and 1.82 stock Froyos and the stock Gingerbread, as well as the fantastic Synergy ROM, and it is there on all of them.
(Sorry, my mistake - I meant to post this in Q&A and just realised I posted this in General, could it be moved please?)
This seems really basic but it's been driving me mad. Don't know if it's just me?
First, in some apps the keyboard has no @ symbol and I can't find it whatever I do. In others you can long press the / key to get @. So the on-screen keyboard implementation seems inconsistent across apps. I tried switching to the US keyboard but it was the same, so it must be the app.
Secondly, the copy/paste functionality also seems inconsistent. In some apps I can long press and get the option to copy. In others, whatever I do I can't call up any copy option at all, only Paste. I found this out when I tried to enter an @ symbol in one app (whose keyboard didn't have the @ symbol) by pasting the symbol from another app.
Has anyone else got this issue please? Is there an easy way to get the @ symbol, and also to call up Copy?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

the @ symbol is left of the spacebar. Either hit caps (up arrow) to select it or hit the numbers button (123)
I often have hit or miss on copy/paste. copy works if you hold it over a word, so zoom in.
Inconsistent keyboard layouts and @ symbol

Regarding copy/paste, thanks very much dilldoe - zooming in and holding exactly over a word worked, cheers! (I'm too used to how the iPad works, I think - you don't even have to tap over a word there, as long as you're tapping somewhere in the box).
But regarding the @ symbol, that's the puzzling thing. Please see the screenshots attached. In Chrome on the standard Google search page, if I tap in the search box on the page itself, the @ symbol is right there to the left of the spacebar, I've outlined it in red.
However, if I tap in the Chrome address bar, you'll see that the on-screen keyboard is now different - the @ symbol is replaced by a colon ( ie : ), and with that particular keyboard it's impossible to locate the @ symbol. Tapping on 123 or to get to other symbols doesn't find it - there's a copyright symbol, and other symbols, but not the @ symbol!
I would have thought the on-screen keyboard should be consistent but even within the same app, as you'll see, it isn't...
It's not such an issue now that I can paste an @ symbol from elsewhere, but it's still odd and frustrating - is this an Android thing, or JellyBean, or app-dependent, please?

It's a keyboard issue. If it annoys you that much, just install another keyboard.
I thought that's due to the keyboard being contextual?
You don't need a @ in the URL bar? - so it rejiggles what keys there are?

That's correct, but I would consider it a bug that the symbol's not available anywhere.
I think the @ symbol isn't _allowed_ in html URLs...?

It normally isn't. The only instance I can think of is if you include your username and password in the url (not uncommon with ftp), but even then, it should prompt you for your login info if you don't provide it.

Cheers for all your thoughts and I agree, if it's a keyboard issue that's a bug with a keyboard.
As AZImmortal said, it's possible that you may need the @ symbol in URLs for username/passwords. But even if not, the fact that you can't call it up at all is in my view a bug, or error at least.
thebobp (or anyone else) what alternative keyboards do you like?

This is obnoxious as hell. I have a Nexus 7 and on the app IP Camera Viewer the @ symbol is not available so I cannot add in my IP camera for remote monitoring
