What is this?
Basically a lite version of Roebeet's TnT Lite. It does not remove the TnT dashboard and applications, so you will still have full use of it. It does install the gtabdev performance pack and gapps. That makes this an speed and usability enhancement for the stock TnT ROM. I will say that with VS's improvements, this is much more usable when I first got my gtablet.
What does this do?
Installs updated nvidia files (~1800->~2400 quadrant)
Installs Gapps, except for calendar and contacts (excluded to maintain dashboard functionality)
Installs Gallery 3D app
Adds wpa supplicant(allows ad hoc connections for tethering)
Adds script to autoinstall Flash (from TnT Lite, not sure how reliable)
Adds build.prop with some tweaks
Adds fix for gsensor in games
Who is this for?
This might be better for the typical user that wants to keep the TnT user interface, but they want it to run as fast and as smooth as possible. Additionally, this will install Gapps and the gingerbread animations.
How do I install this?
1) Requires that you already have a stock TnT 3389 version installed. This does not install a ROM, only modifies it.
2) Extract the downloaded rar to /sdcard. Your sdcard should contain: /sdcard/update.zip and /sdcard/recovery/command. (NOT SDCARD2 aka your external sdcard)
3) Reboot and hold volume+ and power until you see the update start
4) Nothing Changed, Check Here!
Quick Market Fix (Follow Exactly):
1) Run market
2) Open settings->applications->system applications
3) Force close Google Services Framework, then Force Close Market
4) Go back to Google Services Framework, then clear data
5) Run market and confirm you get an error
6) Reboot
7) Wait 2 minutes and try Market to get all applications
8) If this doesn't work, look at the directions again and make sure you follow them exactly

Build.Prop will no longer cause settings to show TnT Lite installed
The links and stock files manager are no longer removed
TapNTap bootanimation is no longer removed (won't uncover nexus one remnants)
Note: 90% of the work was done by Roebeet to make the TnT Lite ROM.
when you say it installs Gapps, does that include the Market?
Thanks rothnic and Roebeet for your hard work and quick production of these important developments.
I think this is exactly what I need prior to giving the gtab to my less-tech, but android-loving parents for Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
PS: I cannot believe how fast and smooth this enhancement pak is. Gapps and apparently market, too! Nice work.
Market is not full, probably needs a fix of some sort.
Could the edited files to allow adhoc networks be added to this?
I like how you guys are thinking about all the different users out there - from the hackers to the "grandparents". Thank you for your hard work and consideration!

You beat me to it -- I was going to set this up next week. I actually have an older version of this floating around in the forum (2967 firmware, I believe).
Thanks much, and have a great holiday!

It's already in there. I scanned rothnic's zip and basically he pulled out most of the app deletes I do (like the Homescreen and TnT apps), but kept everything else like the ad-hoc networking, Development/Spare Parts, busybox and rooted, TSCalibration hack and even the Flash addon on a clean system.
Nice job! I don't see any need to create one of these anymore because rothnic already did the grunt work. I'll even redirect to this link from my 1.0.1 stock enhancement ROM.

Is there an easy market fix for this configuration?
Very nice. Definitely seems faster. I am wondering if the battery is draining quicker though. Also, with or without the enhancement pack, I get an FC from com.electricsheep.asi which is invoked from Android System Info.
not to sound ungrateful but is there any way just to install the updated Tegra/OpenGL drivers? the ability to sync the stock calendar program with google services framework (google accounts) is now gone - can sync with 3389 + tegra gapps
agree that the tablet is incredibly fast now but would like the stock calendar sync (this is a business expense!)

This package includes the stock(TnT) calendar and contacts app. It needs them because they are used in the "dashboard". What I think you want is to add the Gapps calendar program.
What this pack does is only install the updated Tegra/OpenGL drivers. It sounds like you want to install TnT Lite, which removes the dashboard, but installs the full google apps suite.

Glad it will help you out, the parents etc is exactly who I was thinking this would help out. Should be useful with Christmas tomorrow, as this makes the stock build very usable. Hopefully eventually TnT will have these performance enhancements stock, out of the box.
Compare to Vegan, Tnt lite
How does the official update, with the added enhancements, compare in speed, stability and overall performance to the latest vegan and lite builds?
Are you able to use different keyboards in the new build?
Hi,
What is the gtabdev performance pack? Can that be applied separately to stock TNR?
Thanks,
Jim
Would it make sense that i cant download the file on my gtab? It say file type unsupported?

Not sure on the keyboards, it will be the same as tnt lite or stock. Performance will be on par with tnt lite. Vegan is a little lighter weight than either, so might feel a little faster.

Updated nvidia libraries that increase performance. This package is mostly that so yes you can apply it over stock tnt.

The fruits of my deodexing project are now available for everyone to taste. What this ROM has is JH7 fully deodexed and zipaligned, and then tweaked. I have decided to remove the focus off the optimization, as others have made far more advances, and my choices may not be agreeable to someone else. I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone, but I have tested this on my phone, and other than the issues noted below, I have not run across anything deal breaking. This is just a different way to optimize the files, so risk of any hardware damage is minimal. You'll only run into software that won't work.
How to install:
1. Download the zip file, and place it on the sd card.
2. Fire up ROM manager, and apply from SD card, also recommend doing a nandroid back up at the same time
3. ???
4. Profit
What yout get:
1. Stock JH7 deodexed, and zipaligned
2. AT&T and Samsung bloatware removed
2. Superuser and Busybox preinstalled
3. build.prop preedited to allow you to see all market apps
4. The kernel is untouched during the update, but the user data, and cache are wiped. You will need a Titanium Backup to restore.
Known Issues:
1. This is a stock style ROM, and you have to apply any optimizations or fixes manually, or using something like SRE. The JH7 files are all there (except the odex's of course), so the latest SRE should be compatible in theory, but I have always done all tweaks on the phone myself in the past so I am not 100% sure. I'll let some of you be the guinea pigs and report back.
2. Deodexing, and zipaligning is not some magic bullet for performance increase. I personally see no significant difference between the stock performance and this installation. But this is more flexible down the line to get us nearer to Vanilla Eclair due to having been deodexed.
How to Remove:
Use ROM manager, and restore previous backup.
The ROM can be downloaded Here:
Captivate-Deodexed-JH7_v_0.2-Stock
I hope for this to become a test bed of new ideas I can try out to make things better on our phone. So if you want to test it and guide me, I'd appreciate your input. If someone wants to take this and build upon it further, feel free to do so. I'll look into fixing the two apps force closing, with focus being on the camera, followed by the keyboard. Squashed.
Wow lets see what's to come off this + sre + new kernel + voodoo lag fix + froyo!

Not all that long. The deodexing itself is very automated. Making the ROM took a couple of more days to work out the updating script. I still need to work on the best way to integrate superuser and busybox.
i'll give it a shot!

I've wandered this as well
I would try it but I am too happy with how I've got it. The next time I flash it, it's gonna be to stock so I can get the 2.2 OTA. The work tho, I will say thank you for that.
Quick question..Why is sideloading disabled???
Flashing in just a sec, will update.
Sideloading is controlled by the settings.db file in dbdata. When you flash this ROM, that file gets wiped out and is rebuilt on first boot. I think the original is in the ramdisk packed with the kernel. So on first boot the old crippled file is recreated for you to hack into again.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Camera FC all the time, besides that ROM is pretty fast and zippy good job OP.
Will this rom do anything that might break something like SRE? If not, I'll flash it for sure. Got to do a round of it anyway to get the latest goodies
Here's what I've found so far:
-Camera force close
-Log tab in Superuser causes it to force close
-Superuser does work though, aside for the Log tab
-Wifi doesn't work for me
-Mobile Video bloatware isn't uninstalled, just need to be removed from script file and apps folder
Other than that, it's quite zippy and quick. Nice job! I'll take a look at the scripts and files a little later to see if I can fix some of the problems. Keyboard FC should also be an easy fix.
rajendra82, can I suggest that you release the rom as completely vanilla with the deodex and zipalign in place? In theory, everything should work as expected from a vanilla rom and not have things like the Camera app FC.
Users can then apply SRE and you would not have to reinvent the wheel regarding including Superuser, etc. apps.
From what you said about deodex and zipaligning in the other thread, a completely vanilla rom with these optimizations would already be beneficial.
Will installing this ROM negatively affect my phone in any way besides voiding the warranty?

It will be very easy for me to release the vanilla version, I had actually built that first. Samsung Keyboard still force closed on me when I had flashed that. I didn't know about the force close on camera at the time, but I am sure that it would have behaved the same way. The reason for force closure of these two apps is some bug in deodexing. The apps I removed are the same that SRE does, and I manually removed from my phone before deodexing. That is not the reason for force closes. But if everyone would rather have a stock deodexed ROM that they optimize themselves, I can release it a short time. I will also have to look at tweaking the deodexing process some to get rid of the force closes on the keyboard and camera apps.
+1 on a vanilla Rom..That would be great

Now I need your help. I know the Camera app that is force closing is Camera.apk, but what app is the Samsung keyboard? On the same lines, when an app force closes, is there a log file generated somewhere to explain what happened.

Camera issue acknowledged. Looking to fix that. The superuser app version I used had that issue anyway on stock ROM before deodexing, later versions seem to have solved it. I have now decided to keep this a stock ROM project to weed out extraneous issues such as these. WiFi worked fine for me at home and work, so I am not sure what's going on at your end.

Other than the kernel, everything that SRE does will be wiped out, as the whole system, data, and cache partitions will revert back to stock. You can always re flash SRE though.
Note: Rothnic has made a newer version of this, for the 12/23/10 3389 TnT firmware. See his post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885940
This is an alternate ROM, based on the original TnT release. As always -- USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Please read up on how to flash the device and also how to back out using the vanilla ROM, if needed. This ROM is not supported by VS customer support!
Note: This will also flash kernel/system, so be aware of this. I would also highly recommend that you wipe your user data AFTER you run the main update, as it tends to increase stability.

The same caveats apply to this, as with TnT Lite. Read that post for details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842004
So what is this, as how is it different than TnT Lite 2.2.0?
This is an alternate firmware based on the standard TnT release. It has the same features of TnT Lite 2.2.0, with the following differences:
- All the TnT apps are retained (including the homescreen)
- ADB is disabled and no adb remount, just like stock 1.0.1. (ADB can be turned on in Settings, if you need it)
- No adfree hosts file change
What I retained from TnT Lite 2.2.0 is the speed bump, the alternative launcher (if you want to use it), the xbin folder, the altered busybox for Titanium Backup, still rooted, and a few other things.
I had two reasons for building this. One, as a way for me to check on over-the-air updates for my own device, and also as an alternative for those of you who like the TnT homescreen / apps but wanted some of the advantages of the other mods. I don't plan on working on this mod too often, but it's here if you want it.
Instructions for use are the same as TnT Lite, please see that post for details.

Yes, it should work fine. I actually tested the install with cwm .08.
I'd like to try this (I really liked the TnT homepage). Can I go straight from 2.2.0 lite or do I need to go back to original first? Market, Flash and Gapps still available on this one?
I did the upgrade straight over 2.2.0. I got an error at first but a factory reset fixed that (as in 2.2.0). Now I'm seeing Market, but no other Gapps. Am I missing a step?
Also getting a pop-up error that the Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped.

I had the same error - run the Market fix (the link is in my TnT Lite thread) and it should correct that. At least it did for me.
Layering this on top of 2.2.0, or anything else, should work - this replaces the kernel/ramdisk/bootloader to close to TnT stock. It's basically 95% the same as a real 1.0.1 stock change , with the addition of root, Gapps, an alternative (but not replacement) launcher, and a few other things.
I think the TnT UI is faster than stock, but it could just be my imagination - I never really played with that homescreen all that much.
Thanks again roe. will give this a whirl just for kicks.
thanks, roebeet. I tried it. Quadrant score wasn't much lower (about 2350). Interface really is bad. The speed bump didn't help, but I wanted to give it a chance. It started dragging after about 30 minutes. I restored my backup to the latest tnt lite.

They shouldn't, but I would also suggest backing stuff up before any mod change (just in case). I've seen Angry Birds disappear on me at least once, and I could never pin down why. But, also keep in mind that I'm backing up and restoring very frequently.

Most definitely, going on their last update. They will erase /system and replace it, which are where all of these updates are.
I'm not worried -- if there's an update on the 19th, they're be a TnT Lite 3.0.0 shortly thereafter and this mod is not too difficult to recreate. To be honest, I'd have done it sooner except I wanted a relatively stable Lite version and I didn't know anyone really used the stock homescreen until recent posts, here.

Titanium Backup, which is something I tested in this particular mod. Angry Birds data backups are the reason why I started using it.
Thanks for this Roe. As a complete noob, I was a bit nervous doing this, but it's really easy and absolutely works like a charm. SO SO SO much better than the stock. Not only is it unbelievably faster, it doesn't crash as much as the stock rom does lol! I have to say I'm seriously disappointed with Viewsonic, as the crap they have layered over the awesome hardware pretty much guarantees that this will be an overall flop.
I will post a word of warning. About a day after I put tnt lite on the first time I suddenly couldn't boot. About halfway through the boot sequence it would just go dead. I tried reflashing but got nothing. Tried reflashing to vanilla stock and suddenly could barely get past the viewsonic splash screen. Tried rebooting again and couldn't even get that far, and started to panic that I had bricked my tablet. As my frustration mounted I started looking for the original box to pack it up in and suddenly something occurred to me and I plugged it in.
It booted up fine after that. Proving once again that user error is the greatest obstacle to any piece of hardware or software.
Seriously tnt lite has made this little unit my go-to when on the go. Thanks for all your hard work!
When I open contacts with this one, I get a 'Sorry! The application Contacts (process.com.tapntap.contacts) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Any advice?
BTW, Roebeet, thanks so much for your hard work!

I hadn't see that one. Did you try a user data wipe? Maybe there's some old mod setting remnant in there that it's looking for? Just a guess.
Tried to reinstall TnT first but it wouldn't start the process so I went back to 2.2.0 and then back again to 1.0.1 w/EF. I got the error again (that's when I first messaged).
I've done both a factory data reset and formatted (AFTER reflashing the entire thing). Just finished all of that and got it again! DANG!
Even tried treat is as the market and stop the service and wipe the data with Ttianium. I have not idea why that works with Market but it does not work with contacts!
nevermind...I'm an idiot!
I also have the contacts crash. Has anybody fixed this issue. Other than this, everything worked great Ben got a 2437 on Quadrant.

Adding a backup and restore app like "Titanium Backup" as part of the gapps update so I don't have to reinstall from market every time I do a an update.
Recommendation for "Elocity updates:
Elocity needs to fix the way the sdcard is mounted. Sd card should be more compliant with android 2.2 standards. Right now system backups and apps are stored in "storage" folder. OFW updates and "wipe/data factory resets" reformat/destroys all data on that partition and there is no system option to backup to the sdcard (ie., sdcard-disk0.) This is a problem when you are providing all these OFW updates. I have to use a market(not included) provided app to backup my app and another app to move the folders from "storage" to sdcard. That makes no sense.
For some reason i dont have adobe flash and Asphalt 5 still cannot load these two option alone for me make me revert back to dexter mod...
just got off the phone with elocity and mention my gripe with this firmware
i mention to them about dexter and bestialbub who is helping us elocity owners, they guy there say only appoke a gapps apps will work with their firmware...
i believe i did see adobe flash listed in market for update/installation, which is going to be more updated than what would come preinstalled. otherwise i'll check to see if inserting gapps into the system image causes any initial setup problems, as the preinstalled adobe flash is installed on first boot, i think even to the user data partition, so this shouldnt be an issue.
all other non gapps issues are likely rom specific and still awaiting my inspection. recovery is next on the list.
regarding manufacture support or statement against software not supplied by them; they obviously wont support it. most manufactures would even recommend against it; except these new tablet manufacturers are skirting support and linking directly to xda forums for support; so they cant straight nay say solutions promoted here. they cant endorse them either.

I downloaded and installed flash 10.2 from market without any problems. Tested the installed version here http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/. "Asphalt 5" seems a little complicated to install right now but looks like a nice game. I might try it myself if I can get the files together.
After Firmware Update - Version 2.0134- NO PINCH TO ZOOM
Hello folks,
After Firmware Update - Version 2.0134- NO PINCH TO ZOOM, instead I have a useless handwriting option? Does anyone know how I can get my pinch to zoom working again?
Thanks
Hi all,
I recently flashed Koshu's unbelievable ROM which brought JB to the TPT. I am using v. 0.8.1 at the time of writing.
Naturally, I lost all the Lenovo stock applications which came with the TPT. I especially miss the USB transfer app which would allow for transferring documents between a USB drive and the TPT
[The question]: Is there any way to restore the stock lenovo applications to the tablet? I know that the original image must be on the TPT SOMEWHERE seeing as doing a factory reset will re-load all apps.
Any help would be much appreciated!
Some of these preinstalling and normally free to find in PlayStore APKs are even still on your TPT, because they are seperated into two locations:
1. The preinstall APK files you metioned and you and everyone else should still have are in /mnt/pia/. like the preinstalled games, media players, readers and business thingies.
2. The System APK files which were in /system/app/. like NotesMobile, all those Lenovo Widgets, USB FileCopyUtility etc
system
I will upload the latter one first. Copy what you want to /system/app/. and be sure that all permissions are the same as the ones of all other system APKs already being there and have fun. If someone deleted the ones in /mnt/pia/. out of whatever reason I upload them if asked for, too.

Yes, the USB-transfer-utility can (most likely but not definitely) be installed onto a 3rd-party ROM.
The question is do you need to? Any decent "explorer" app (e.g: Root Explorer) can see the contents of a connected USB (look in /mnt/usbdrive) and copy files on/off it.
Most of the Lenovo stock apps are clunky bloatware. Plenty of far more functional apps are available on Play.
Emuancando you are the best mate, thank you so much! In my experience with Android forums, some posts take weeks for a reply--really goes to show how this community is very active. I will be unzipping the file uploaded in no time! Thank you again

youre welcome. the tpt community needs every helping hand. we are not that big.
one thing more. there are rumors that the tool won't find the usb device. keep me updated. maybe we find a solution for that too.
Ok, so a few observations here:
1) The USB transfer tool will only disaply /sdcard, and none of the other mounts. So to say, that the full size sd-card reader does not appear in the app, nor does media attached to the full sized USB port. Both drives however can be found using ES-FIle explorer
2) Any idea where that launcher widget is? I have searched EVERYWHERE for it. I am talking about the stock widget that has links for movies, music, books, browser etc. I miss this widget above all else.
Any help would be really appreciated! Thank you again!

A few suggestions:
1) Wipe your "Play Store" cache
2) Which version did you install? Maybe try one of the other files in the linked file.
3) Download "Papyrus Beta" from the Play Store--it has Lenovo digitizer support for the TPT and is an amazing application. Optimized for ICS and JB (I believe)

I tried to wipe the "Play Store" cache with no luck.
I am using the stock version.
I really like how NotesMobile translates the writing into text.

It could that NotesMobile is in some way locked to the Lenovo ROMs. It makes sense that they would do this since its an OEM app and not available elsewhere.
NotesMobile has a large number of language-specific data files associated with it (also found in that file emuandco linked to here). It's worth copying all of these across to /system/apps too before writing this off.
@jakymiwm: NotesMobile isn't the only "Notes" app with handwriting recognition. WritePad can do this too ... albeit in a different manner.

It may very well be dependant on the Lenovo ROM. Write pad is good. The only issue I have with it, is the interface. Actual functionality is great though!

I did move all the files over. The only thing I didn't do is change all of the permissions. I made sure I changed the main app and the en_.. apps.
I also tried to change the build.props to see if that could help. It did not. It must be looking at the SDK version. I can't change that without getting into a boot loop.

When you say you changed the 'build.prop' file, did you modify the string which sets the OS version? I feel like this is a framework issue....
I changed everything in the build and product area except for the SDK version. If I change the SDK version the tablet will boot loop.
Going back to my original question: any ideas on how i can restore the stock lenovo homescreen widget? i am talking about the one which looks like a flower, and contains shortcuts for music, books, photos and browser. if not, does anykne know of a decent alternative????

That's a good question. It should be /system/app as that's where the all other widgets are (Lenovo Bookmarks / Lenovo Mail / etc). But I can't see anything that stands out obviously. The official name is "Lenovo Launch Zone" if that helps.
It might be that Lenovo shoehorned it into the default ICS launcher (Launcher2.apk). Or perhaps it's in one of the preinstall apks. You could try them one by one until it appears.

Here's the one from my /system/app (stock ROW OTA3.5).
I suspect this isn't it but you're welcome to try anyway.
EDIT:Having a look through the graphics elements within Launcher2, it appears that it may actually be the location of that widget. I don't know how it will play in CM10 as I think that uses Trebuchet as it's launcher. Using Lenovo's launcher may break things.

Good work mate ! Keep it up !
First off: Great $hit Man. Been looking for a better looking, remote friendly version of Android TV. Question: Does Google assistant work? Definitely not a deal breaker but trying to get a all in one setup going on a mini PC. Second: We should just leave update off to prevent OTA from messing up your mod? Thanks and keep going. Youre on to something people will want.

Awesome, love this version of PHOS. I would like to see, and help if need be, further development on this one. So just want to put this out there.. after installing an OTA update popped up and I figure there was no harm in trying it. The update installed "LaunchWork" app that was trying to show some ads but could not or would not connect to it's server so I simply used the included system app uninstaller to remove it and now I don't have to bother exiting out of an empty window every time I open an app.

I wish I was skilled enough to make this rom more stable.
I only know how to convert regular Android into Android TV with some simple modifications!
Maybe someone can take a look at it to see if we can make it more stable. An more like a Android tv
Yeah I don't really know much about how to go about stabilizing ROMS, and have a little experience unsuccessfully porting TWRP to a couple phones. Been wondering how i would go about getting the native settings working, or possibly replacing the settings apk with native settings apk, but idk if it works like that or if there is more to getting things working.
---------- Post added at 12:15 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:05 AM ----------
One thing I can say is that after doing the OTA from Phoenix when I first installed, I have not had the package installer crash. I do get some modded apps crashing every now and again, but I just assume that is from the modifications. Just got a little more background I installed PHTV onto a 32 GB flash drive with 350mb EFI partition, the rest I formatted to NTFS and gave it a 20 GB data partition so I could have a little room on the drive to store some stuff from from Windows or otg from my phone if need be.

Usually that is an erorr with incomplete download or that the app is incompatible with the current SDK version of Android. Also if I'm thinking correctly shouldn't the app and app data be two files, apk and obb. Try changing file extension to zip and open with your favorite file manager app
Awesome
