[ROM] Captivate-Deodexed-JH7 v 0.2-Stock - Captivate Android Development

The fruits of my deodexing project are now available for everyone to taste. What this ROM has is JH7 fully deodexed and zipaligned, and then tweaked. I have decided to remove the focus off the optimization, as others have made far more advances, and my choices may not be agreeable to someone else. I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone, but I have tested this on my phone, and other than the issues noted below, I have not run across anything deal breaking. This is just a different way to optimize the files, so risk of any hardware damage is minimal. You'll only run into software that won't work.
How to install:
1. Download the zip file, and place it on the sd card.
2. Fire up ROM manager, and apply from SD card, also recommend doing a nandroid back up at the same time
3. ???
4. Profit
What yout get:
1. Stock JH7 deodexed, and zipaligned
2. AT&T and Samsung bloatware removed
2. Superuser and Busybox preinstalled
3. build.prop preedited to allow you to see all market apps
4. The kernel is untouched during the update, but the user data, and cache are wiped. You will need a Titanium Backup to restore.
Known Issues:
1. This is a stock style ROM, and you have to apply any optimizations or fixes manually, or using something like SRE. The JH7 files are all there (except the odex's of course), so the latest SRE should be compatible in theory, but I have always done all tweaks on the phone myself in the past so I am not 100% sure. I'll let some of you be the guinea pigs and report back.
2. Deodexing, and zipaligning is not some magic bullet for performance increase. I personally see no significant difference between the stock performance and this installation. But this is more flexible down the line to get us nearer to Vanilla Eclair due to having been deodexed.
How to Remove:
Use ROM manager, and restore previous backup.
The ROM can be downloaded Here:
Captivate-Deodexed-JH7_v_0.2-Stock
I hope for this to become a test bed of new ideas I can try out to make things better on our phone. So if you want to test it and guide me, I'd appreciate your input. If someone wants to take this and build upon it further, feel free to do so. I'll look into fixing the two apps force closing, with focus being on the camera, followed by the keyboard. Squashed.

Wow lets see what's to come off this + sre + new kernel + voodoo lag fix + froyo!
BRING ON THE THEMES!

Not all that long. The deodexing itself is very automated. Making the ROM took a couple of more days to work out the updating script. I still need to work on the best way to integrate superuser and busybox.

i'll give it a shot!

Dear sirs and/or madams,
What's "deodexed and zipaligned"?

I've wandered this as well
I would try it but I am too happy with how I've got it. The next time I flash it, it's gonna be to stock so I can get the 2.2 OTA. The work tho, I will say thank you for that.
Quick question..Why is sideloading disabled???

Flashing in just a sec, will update.

Sideloading is controlled by the settings.db file in dbdata. When you flash this ROM, that file gets wiped out and is rebuilt on first boot. I think the original is in the ramdisk packed with the kernel. So on first boot the old crippled file is recreated for you to hack into again.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

Camera FC all the time, besides that ROM is pretty fast and zippy good job OP.

Will this rom do anything that might break something like SRE? If not, I'll flash it for sure. Got to do a round of it anyway to get the latest goodies

Here's what I've found so far:
-Camera force close
-Log tab in Superuser causes it to force close
-Superuser does work though, aside for the Log tab
-Wifi doesn't work for me
-Mobile Video bloatware isn't uninstalled, just need to be removed from script file and apps folder
Other than that, it's quite zippy and quick. Nice job! I'll take a look at the scripts and files a little later to see if I can fix some of the problems. Keyboard FC should also be an easy fix.

rajendra82, can I suggest that you release the rom as completely vanilla with the deodex and zipalign in place? In theory, everything should work as expected from a vanilla rom and not have things like the Camera app FC.
Users can then apply SRE and you would not have to reinvent the wheel regarding including Superuser, etc. apps.
From what you said about deodex and zipaligning in the other thread, a completely vanilla rom with these optimizations would already be beneficial.

Will installing this ROM negatively affect my phone in any way besides voiding the warranty?

It will be very easy for me to release the vanilla version, I had actually built that first. Samsung Keyboard still force closed on me when I had flashed that. I didn't know about the force close on camera at the time, but I am sure that it would have behaved the same way. The reason for force closure of these two apps is some bug in deodexing. The apps I removed are the same that SRE does, and I manually removed from my phone before deodexing. That is not the reason for force closes. But if everyone would rather have a stock deodexed ROM that they optimize themselves, I can release it a short time. I will also have to look at tweaking the deodexing process some to get rid of the force closes on the keyboard and camera apps.

+1 on a vanilla Rom..That would be great

OP updated with stock deodexed ROM linked.
Now I need your help. I know the Camera app that is force closing is Camera.apk, but what app is the Samsung keyboard? On the same lines, when an app force closes, is there a log file generated somewhere to explain what happened.

Camera issue acknowledged. Looking to fix that. The superuser app version I used had that issue anyway on stock ROM before deodexing, later versions seem to have solved it. I have now decided to keep this a stock ROM project to weed out extraneous issues such as these. WiFi worked fine for me at home and work, so I am not sure what's going on at your end.

Other than the kernel, everything that SRE does will be wiped out, as the whole system, data, and cache partitions will revert back to stock. You can always re flash SRE though.

[Workaround] Froyo- Workarounds for Common Problems- READ HERE FIRST!!

So, as Froyo is slowly becoming the standard around here, I thought I would post a few workarounds for some of the problems that people are having with Froyo and the wide selections of Froyo ROMS to choose from. I put this list together, as these problems I see coming up in many of the Froyo ROM threads.
So, I ll start with a few of the most common ones, and will add to this list later.
Issue -My apps are appearing twice in the ADW apps launcher after moving them to the SD card! (Froyo apps2sd)
Workaround-It seems almost everytime I reboot the phone that Im getting the apps appearing twice. If you uninstall ADW, and then reinstall it, then it stops. So what I ve done for the time being is to install ADW new, get all the widgets and apps you want on the home screen, and then go into the restore and backup settings in ADW launcher. Make a backup of your ADW settings and of your homescreens and save those to your sd card (it does this automatically). Then, the next time you need to reboot your phone and you see double apps coming up, just go into ADW settings and "Restore" your settings for the launcher and homescreens. Then the double apps go away, your settings are retained, and your apps and widgets are back on your homescreen.
If your using the same apps and widgets all the time, its probably a good idea to do a Nandroid after you ve done this, and to save the 2 ADW save files stored on your sd card just in case you ever want to quickly restore your settings again.
Issue- Froyo apps2sd is rubbish! I only have 40mb left on internal storage! I want the old apps2sd back!!
Workaround- First off, I have to admit that at first I didn’t like the new Froyo apps2sd. But actually now, I like it more, due to the fact that you don’t need an EXT or swap (meaning MORE SPEED), AND coupled with the fact theres a very easy way to get FOUR TIMES MORE STORAGE than the 40mb (estimate for 115 apps) that you have left. The solution? Easy..all you have to do is go into your ROMS settings, and “move dalvik to cache”. To put it simply, I have 117 apps installed on my phone. After I moved them all to the sd card, I had 40mb left. I then went into the spare parts on Emonthers ROM, and enabled “dalvik on cache”. I then rebooted, and VOILA…137mb free internal space.
I cant confirm that all ROMS have this option, but if your ROM does have it, it’s the way to go. From what I ve read (please correct me if im wrong), this space is allocated mostly for OTA updates. As most of us here have root, why not use that space to free up some internal memory! After doing this, my phone is running VERY fast and smooth.
Issue- My phone keeps rebooting at the load screen! HELP!!
Workaround -This commonly occurs if you didn’t wipe properly when coming from another ROM. If this is happening to you, you ll need to:
Pull your battery to get the loops to stop
Reboot into recovery
Do a full wipe, then if you have an ext partition wipe that. Also wipe cache and dalvik settings. This is very important. Then flash your ROM. Your Bootloops should then stop. And remember, if your partioning your card, remember to REPAIR EXT PARTITIONS. This is VERY important and will save you lots of grief.
Issue- When I record video my phone reboots! HELP!
Workaround- This means you haven’t installed the Froyo radio. You ll need to be sure you have either flashed the zip version of the Froyo radio or installed the image (Cyan says installing the image is safer. Im sure hes probably right, but I can confirm I have flashed the zip version of the radio and it works fine).
Issue-I don’t know which apps to install to the sd card and which I should leave on the phone! AAARRGGHH!
Workaround- From what I have read, what you ll want to leave on the phone are:
Widgets, apps that have widgets that you use, keyboards, and system apps. I also keep my sms app on the phone, although Im sure it will work fine on the SD card.
Issue- I just flashed a new ROM, and now the app launcher is all slow! Whats up with that??
Workaround- This is most likely because your apps are being automatically redownloaded and installed. This is a feature of Android that was added to Eclaire that allows Google (with your permission) to backup your settings (apps, wifi key, ect). Give the phone a minute and you ll see in your app launcher that your apps are being added automatically! When its done, you ll get a notification that says “ “X” number of apps reinstalled. Saves you time and work, and now your launcher will stop lagging.
Issue- There are so many Froyo ROMS! Which one is the best one!??!
Workaround- This is like asking if basketball is cooler than football. In short: it’s a matter of opinion. I can however share my findings so far.
Cyan6- We all know the quality of Cyan and TeamDouches work. When there ROMS go stable, they..well…they JUST WORK GREAT. Cyans ROMS are always very detailed and COMPLETE (trackball lights, wallpapers, advanced options) Right now, for me the ROM is still very buggy, so I would give it the number 3 spot.
RoDrIgUeZsTyLe- If you like overclocking and speed, this ROM is a winner! His ROMS have a lot of kernel options and overclocking enhancements, and are fairly stable. Very recommended.
Enomther- At this very moment, this ROM takes the cake and is easily my number 1 pick. Stable, fast, TONS of enhanced features and extra settings, and I can honestly say I haven’t had one FC yet. I can understand why hes one of the top dogs here. His newest ROM has been an AWESOME Froyo experience for me, and I ll be sticking with him until Cyan goes stable.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER FROYO ROMS. THESE ARE JUST THE ONES THAT I HAD THE BEST EXPERIENCES WITH. YOUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE MAY VARY!! THE DEVS HERE ALL DO GREAT WORK, AND THIS IS BY NO MEANS SAYING THAT ONE IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER!
Anyway, that’s all I have for now. I hope this helps out, and I ll be adding to this thread as more common problems come to me. I hope it helps someone out, and I really hope it saves our awesome devs some time from answering questions. After all, it takes time creating all the awesomeness that they bring!

Quite possibly yes. Try deleting that folder, rebooting, and then try to install. Make sure the folder doesnt reappear after reboot. If it does, try just deleting it and then downloading and installing an app.
Also, be sure to let me know if it works, so that I can add it to the thread.
thank you for the information. I would suggest that you try Leo Froyo. Very stable and full of options.

Are u using the old apps2sd or the new? I read in another thread that deleting this folder was allowing some to download apps after deleting it. I personally haven't had his problem, but ill search around to see if I can find a workaround.
Download this file here and make sure it doesn't have .txt as file ext, but .xml instead. Rename if necessary.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6602402&postcount=8
Then follow this instruction.

If it doesn't work, you most likely don't have the shared_prefs folder. So just create one.
Hope it helps. Good luck.

LOL. Yes, I know what the new Froyo apps to sd is I asked because in many of the Froyo ROMS you have the possibility to choose between the new implemented from Google apps2sd or the old style apps2sd that we seen in builds prior to Froyo.
Have you given rjhay22's suggestion a try? Please let me know if it fixes so that I can get it added to the original post.

Never seen any of these problems... Apps2SD is okay, just more apps need to support it.. I have 4-5 5M+ apps which don't, and it'd help a lot if they did. I'm sitting around 30M free after clearing browser cache with a ton of apps installed on my stock OTA.

well if you have the mod install location app you can force the option to allow apps to be moved to SD
@Dai323
haha sorry i was using froyo apps to sd. I dont think it makes any difference whether that folder is there or not unless something is entirely screwed up with a rom flash.
ive read that the solution rjahays solution will work for enomthers for sure as well as modacos rom

Alternate GTab Firmware - TnT 1.0.1 (2967) stock, with extra functionality

Note: Rothnic has made a newer version of this, for the 12/23/10 3389 TnT firmware. See his post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885940
This is an alternate ROM, based on the original TnT release. As always -- USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Please read up on how to flash the device and also how to back out using the vanilla ROM, if needed. This ROM is not supported by VS customer support!
Note: This will also flash kernel/system, so be aware of this. I would also highly recommend that you wipe your user data AFTER you run the main update, as it tends to increase stability.
------------------------------------------------------------
Firmware based off TnT svn #13 kernel (TnT 1.0.1, build 2967):
Version 1.0.1a1 Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?wbr4spp1thzpys9
md5sum: eb6c4712c786bb856daaa62f81b65ad7
Updated on 12/5/2010
------------------------------------------------------------
Caveats and Issues - PLEASE READ AND BE AWARE
The same caveats apply to this, as with TnT Lite. Read that post for details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842004
So what is this, as how is it different than TnT Lite 2.2.0?
This is an alternate firmware based on the standard TnT release. It has the same features of TnT Lite 2.2.0, with the following differences:
- All the TnT apps are retained (including the homescreen)
- ADB is disabled and no adb remount, just like stock 1.0.1. (ADB can be turned on in Settings, if you need it)
- No adfree hosts file change
What I retained from TnT Lite 2.2.0 is the speed bump, the alternative launcher (if you want to use it), the xbin folder, the altered busybox for Titanium Backup, still rooted, and a few other things.
I had two reasons for building this. One, as a way for me to check on over-the-air updates for my own device, and also as an alternative for those of you who like the TnT homescreen / apps but wanted some of the advantages of the other mods. I don't plan on working on this mod too often, but it's here if you want it.
Instructions for use are the same as TnT Lite, please see that post for details.

Yes, it should work fine. I actually tested the install with cwm .08.
I'd like to try this (I really liked the TnT homepage). Can I go straight from 2.2.0 lite or do I need to go back to original first? Market, Flash and Gapps still available on this one?
I did the upgrade straight over 2.2.0. I got an error at first but a factory reset fixed that (as in 2.2.0). Now I'm seeing Market, but no other Gapps. Am I missing a step?
Also getting a pop-up error that the Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped.

I had the same error - run the Market fix (the link is in my TnT Lite thread) and it should correct that. At least it did for me.
Layering this on top of 2.2.0, or anything else, should work - this replaces the kernel/ramdisk/bootloader to close to TnT stock. It's basically 95% the same as a real 1.0.1 stock change , with the addition of root, Gapps, an alternative (but not replacement) launcher, and a few other things.
I think the TnT UI is faster than stock, but it could just be my imagination - I never really played with that homescreen all that much.
Thanks again roe. will give this a whirl just for kicks.
thanks, roebeet. I tried it. Quadrant score wasn't much lower (about 2350). Interface really is bad. The speed bump didn't help, but I wanted to give it a chance. It started dragging after about 30 minutes. I restored my backup to the latest tnt lite.

They shouldn't, but I would also suggest backing stuff up before any mod change (just in case). I've seen Angry Birds disappear on me at least once, and I could never pin down why. But, also keep in mind that I'm backing up and restoring very frequently.

Most definitely, going on their last update. They will erase /system and replace it, which are where all of these updates are.
I'm not worried -- if there's an update on the 19th, they're be a TnT Lite 3.0.0 shortly thereafter and this mod is not too difficult to recreate. To be honest, I'd have done it sooner except I wanted a relatively stable Lite version and I didn't know anyone really used the stock homescreen until recent posts, here.

Titanium Backup, which is something I tested in this particular mod. Angry Birds data backups are the reason why I started using it.
Thanks for this Roe. As a complete noob, I was a bit nervous doing this, but it's really easy and absolutely works like a charm. SO SO SO much better than the stock. Not only is it unbelievably faster, it doesn't crash as much as the stock rom does lol! I have to say I'm seriously disappointed with Viewsonic, as the crap they have layered over the awesome hardware pretty much guarantees that this will be an overall flop.
I will post a word of warning. About a day after I put tnt lite on the first time I suddenly couldn't boot. About halfway through the boot sequence it would just go dead. I tried reflashing but got nothing. Tried reflashing to vanilla stock and suddenly could barely get past the viewsonic splash screen. Tried rebooting again and couldn't even get that far, and started to panic that I had bricked my tablet. As my frustration mounted I started looking for the original box to pack it up in and suddenly something occurred to me and I plugged it in.
It booted up fine after that. Proving once again that user error is the greatest obstacle to any piece of hardware or software.
Seriously tnt lite has made this little unit my go-to when on the go. Thanks for all your hard work!
When I open contacts with this one, I get a 'Sorry! The application Contacts (process.com.tapntap.contacts) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Any advice?
BTW, Roebeet, thanks so much for your hard work!

I hadn't see that one. Did you try a user data wipe? Maybe there's some old mod setting remnant in there that it's looking for? Just a guess.
Tried to reinstall TnT first but it wouldn't start the process so I went back to 2.2.0 and then back again to 1.0.1 w/EF. I got the error again (that's when I first messaged).
I've done both a factory data reset and formatted (AFTER reflashing the entire thing). Just finished all of that and got it again! DANG!
Even tried treat is as the market and stop the service and wipe the data with Ttianium. I have not idea why that works with Market but it does not work with contacts!
nevermind...I'm an idiot!
I also have the contacts crash. Has anybody fixed this issue. Other than this, everything worked great Ben got a 2437 on Quadrant.

[ROM][2.1] Eclair Strikes Back v2 [2011.06.23]

Since there's been some interest in comparing the 2.2 ROMs with the 2.1, here are some stock eclair nandroid images based on the Cincinnati Bell 2.1 ROM that can be used in OpenRecovery without flashing SBFs. You can use these to switch between 2.1 and other 2.2 ROMs without bothering with RSD Lite/sbf_flash.
Of course gallery key, camera and FM radio work well on these. Although, I've been having market problems (paid apps fail to download). Hopefully that will resolve itself if/when market decides to self-update... In the interim, I recommend using something like Titanium Backup to migrate your paid apps.
Eclair Strikes Back v2 (2011.06.23)
This is a tweaked version of CBW_eclair_STR_U2_04_1E_1.zip with some tricks we've been using in 2.2 (expanded apns-conf.xml, JIT from FrozenEclair, memhack to move dalvik-cache to /cache, egl.cfg hack to disable software rendering).
eclair-strikes-back-v2-beta.zip (the beta is now final )
Changes since v1:
ext-partition support compatible with the stock221-derived ROMs*
Automatic swap support for fjfalcon's fastboot kernel
Automatic support for link2sd (either FAT extra partition or stock221's /sd-ext/link2sd method)
Additional cpu governors (conservative, interactive)
Market upgraded to 2.2.7
*dalvik-cache on /sd-ext is not supported by default on this ROM.
Previous release: Eclair Strikes Back v1
eclair-strikes-back.zip
2011-06-16 Update to fix market on ESB v1 (upgrades market to 2.2.7)
Stock 2.1 (Cincinnati Bell)
This is a rooted version of Cincinnati Bell's STR_U2_04.1E.1 with OpenRecovery support pre-installed.
CBW_eclair_STR_U2_04_1E_1.zip
Hey Mioze do you have the app2ext script that is in the Bluesteel rom? Might try your eclair nands with it and see what i get.
I've finally successfully downloaded and installed a paid app from the market now on Eclair Strikes Back. Market is still old one though... not sure why it's taking so long to update to new one. When I did a factory reset on stock 2.1 soon after I bought the phone the market updated itself pretty quickly IIRC.
Still, this feels so smooth and fast....
EDIT:
And don't seem to be having downloading issues with any apps, be it paid or free anymore. Maybe you'll have to manually replace the market.apk with the new one though, since I'm not sure it's ever going to self-update.

And what about moving applications to the sd? available or will be applied app2sd?. Open recovery will still work? I have some applications that are supported only from 2.2, they can no longer be installed .... of course there will have to sacrifice something.
I at the continuing problems of delay in opening and closing apps, malfunction of the camera, out of trouble and delay an application to load the launcher and would return to around 2.1, but I also like the space for application installation and open recovery.
PS: It's easy to return to 2.1?
download on process
kinda miss the haptic feedback hahaha..
thx a lot Mioze..
I'm pretty sure you can only move apps to SD for 2.2... since I never used it (I never have so many apps installed at once that it's neccesary) I don't mind losing that functionality.
There are a few apps from 2.2 that I like, most notably the new gmail and youtube apps, but those are minor sacrifices for me really.
Open recovery is installed in both those links. I find the camera works much better on 2.1, seems much faster in taking and processing pictures.
In any case, it is indeed very easy to return to 2.1 and then return back to a 2.2 ROM if you don't like it. You take one of those links (I'm using eclair strikes back) and flash it through nandroid just as you would any other ROM that we have here. And you can flash back the same way if you don't like it.
Be advised, there are currently some issues around the android market for some reason (just see the posts above)... I'm thinking we might have to replace the market apk.
Anyways, I personally am loving it.
EDIT:
Oh, you might have to setup the APN's as well.

I intend to make an updated eclair-strikes-back to add app2ext support and additional governors but I probably won't have time until later in the week. I view link2sd as the eclair equivalent of froyo's native app2sd, though. Link2sd may already work with fat as the second partition, but I haven't tested it yet because of the market problem. The market problem is #1 on my list when I get time.
And yes, these 2.1 ROMs will keep OpenRecovery intact and you can just flash between 2.1 and 2.2 ROMs the same way you would switch between 2.2 ROMs.
Thanks for the work Mioze7Ae! Let's try it, you know, always gives a bit of fear making a mistake, but gradually removes the fear. I do not know that flashing. It's like applying an Update? I apply a copy nandroid?

I know how you feel. I always used to have fear/apprehension when flashing a ROM. I've done it enough times now that it's all gone by now though.
Anyways:
Download the ROM. Unzip it. Copy and paste the folder (should contain 4 things in it boot.img etc...) into your SD card under OpenRecovery/Nandroid/ (if you've gone to a 2.2 ROM you should see that ROM in the same place where you're putting this). Anyways, launch open recovery and do recovery boot or hold volume up while pressing power on (if your phone is off). If you get an image and nothing happens, you may have to go into open recovery and select install recovery system before doing this - if you have a bunch of weird pictures in your gallery including Darth Maul then you don't have to worry about this. Then navigate - using the volume keys to move up and down and the camera button to select - to Nandroid, select restore, select Eclair strikes back, select restore all. Once that's done, make sure to wipe data/factory reset and then wipe/clear dalvik cache and cache. Then reboot and it should work. (First reboots are long).
You may have to setup your APN's also.
Excellent. Thanks, sounds simple ... downloading ..... then tell how it worked.

They actually go in nandroid/openrecovery/, it's the updates.zip that go in OpenRecovery/updates/ so it's easy to remember that wrong. I'm always adb push'ing to them so I only noticed the mistake because I've got the muscle memory from typing them all the time. Gotta love the consistency
hey mioze7ae, using it right now btw, is it possible to change the read_ahead settings to 2048 instead of 128? i can manually replace the file but once reboot, it changes back.
thanks!
Manual market update
I replaced /system/app/Vending.apk with the 2.2.7 com.android.vending.apk found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875067
After doing this and rebuilding dalvik-cache I have the new market and I am able to install paid apps! I'll make an update for it tomorrow, I have to crash.
Two things you can get from market before you flash. APN backup/ restore and SD speed Increase. You can backup your APNs and then once you get to the eclairs, restore them. SD Speed Increase will kick up your SD cache to 2048, instead of 128. Both are free.

Yes. But if you have to use open recovery for whatever reason, you'll need them. You can either click install recovery as needed (which creates the pics) and delete them after, or the best thing to do is get an app that just hides the pics from gallery - so they are there when you need them, but don't interfere. I saw an app "Gallery Excluder" or something floating around in the XDA Android Apps section - that would work. Or a gallery like QuickPic let's you hide things as well.
EDIT:
Nevermind, Gallery Excluder hides folders only. There are other apps though, I believe.
Just an update on progress with ESB
I've done some testing and Link2SD already works with the released eclair-strikes-back but currently only when using FAT for the second partition.
To get ext support in, I'm trying to get the darktremor a2sd scripts to work. They look high quality and robust and should handle swap gracefully when booting the custom kernel as well (current status--some rare hung boots with a flaky SD card when using the latest beta scripts, will try the stable release next). There's also a GUI in the market for managing the SD card (currently only Froyo+, I'm inquiring whether the developer can add eclair support).

I am hoping that the ext will come through. If I am using the sd-ext/app folder on the Steelblue ROM, can I leave all my apps in there and flash your eclair with ext support (when ready) or will I have to use Titanium-migrate? I would think that it really wouldn't matter for most of the apps, except FroYo specific ones like Flash 10.3 but not sure.
p.s. Are you going to call your next version "Return of the Eclair"?
MD5 Check failed. Does this have something to do with the fact that I bought my phone in the middle east?

[LP][5.X][XPERIA] Debloating script for xperia phones running LP

***LOOKING FOR A ALL-IN-ONE SOLUTION? THAT'S AVAILABLE FOR Z3C USERS ONLY, IF INTERESTED GO HERE***
I guys, I share with you my debloating script for those interested in a higly DEBLOATED LP installation, very slimmed down, battery friendly, faster, with less RAM comsuption etc
Heavily debloated actually means almost 1 gb of system stuff moved to a backup folder (that you can even delete or move to sdcards to get 1gb extra free space in /system) so applying my script you agree to debloat A LOT as I did but take care that you will have a much lighter system and still you will be able to restore very easily anything you want anytime moving stuff back from the backup folder to /system (detailed instructions for that below in this thread).
NOTES
1. as all the stuff object of my debloating script is going to be placed in /system when flashing the pre-rooted FW, it is strongly suggested to apply my script immediately after flashing the pre-rooted LP FW and before rebooting, this way all that stuff will be moved away, and it is like it was never installed (at first boot no optimizations for those apps, means faster first boot etc)
2. as said above, all the bloat is not really deleted but moved to a Backup folder in system (/system/__Backup) so you can restore anything you want very easily. that's the reason you can see /system partition still almost full in spite of my high debloat, but stuff moved to the backup folder is "silent", so for sure it is not affecting the system at all and it is like it is not installed: I use this approach for people who needs to restore something, this way restoring is very very easy and fast. By the way, deleting the whole Backup folder (or moving it to your sdcard) you will then see something like 1.1 gb extra free space in /system!!
3. using different FW as base you may have some more bloat/apks, not present in my FW, that will remain installed. In this case, if you think there is some bloat left that could be removed, please send me a list of all your system apps remained after debloating, so i can check them (you can easily do that via terminal with 'ls /system/app > /sdcard/sysapps.txt' and 'ls /system/priv-app > /sdcard/privapps.txt' and send me the resultant text files)

2. wipe data, cache and dalvik ***
3. flash my debloating script
4. that's all! reboot/enjoy
*** NOTES
You can skip wiping data, so you'll keep all your personal data! But please mind that not wiping data during the installation procedure the debloat will not be 100% effective: in fact, if you don't wipe data, all the sony apps installed in /data/app won't be removed by the script! (to remove them, you'll have to uninstall them manually from settings > apps > downloaded)

RESULT
As said at the top, you'll get a very slimmed down LP FW, battery friendly, very fast, with less RAM comsuption etc
Of course, everything is working great here, I mean all the features I need/use!
In particular, with latest version of my script you are going to delete more than 160 packages in total with all relevant libs/stuff plus all applications automatically installed by Sony :good:
DISCLAIMER
If you apply my script again please take care I did a pretty massive debloat as I don't use a lot of stuff (social apps, small apps, many of the sony "addons"/special settings etc!!) and this is a working config for me, but for others some functionalities will be probably missing, so mind what you do before apply them! (but again you can restore anything anytime, if interested just continue the reading)

REMOVED STUFF
As said at the beginning, with my script, stuff is not going to be deleted anymore, but moved in /system/__Backup folder. This way you can restore things without the need to download them from my GDrive.
HOW TO RESTORE SOMETHING
PS. of course I also removed from my FW all the stuff that can be easily downloaded from the Play Store (Gmail, etc)
In the hidden field below you will find the restoring instructions you need to follow to restore any package you may want back:
According to what you want to restore, you have to follow two different procedures:
- all the APKs that are inside /system/__Backup/various/etc_custom_apps and /system/__Backup/various/etc_prod_apps are regular APKs that are going to be installed in /data, so you can just run them and then select "install" like a normal APK, easy. You will then see them in Settings > applications > downloaded
- instead, all the things in /system/__Backup/system_app and /system/__Backup/system_priv-app folders can't be normally installed, but must be restored in the correct /system folders with correct permissions. To do this, see the step-by-step instructions below (in the following example, I am going to restore Chrome app in /system/app and Velvet (Google Search) in /system/priv-app, but of course you can restore how many things as you want at the same time)
Code:
- with a root file manager like ES, go to /system/__Backup/system_app and MOVE the whole "Chrome" folder to /system/app
- with a root file manager like ES, go to /system/__Backup/system_priv-app and MOVE the whole "Velvet" folder to /system/priv-app
- reboot
- done
PS. don't copy but MOVE things back, or permissions will get messed up and you are likely to end up in a bootloop!
Many THANKS @ondrejvaroscak and @Puffin617 for some very good advices, @mj084 for some packages descriptions :good:

don't think so. in fact, several people who flashed and installed xposed directly on stock FW, had bootloops. others have problems with play store in deodexed, so I think, at least here and IMHO, best combo is odexed but debloated.
of course you can remove less stuff, that will be also much safer. if and when I post a text list of what I removed, I can maybe highlight dangerous apps that people should be careful with, or add notes for some apps that maybe is not so easy to understand what they are for
EDIT: I always prefer manual things, so I always manually move apps to a temporary location and then delete them

Perfect Bro @moly82 will work on it to launch a FW Debloated stable.
So do we know which app it is that you removed that fixed the xposed issue? I don't buy the "just delete a bunch of stuff and xposed will work", there must be one or a combination of apps that are causing the bootloops.

well, you are free to investigate [emoji14]
always when i flash a stock fw i immediately remove a lot of useless (for me) stuff.. this time I had already deleted something like 120 useless apps before flashing xposed and seeing it was working fine.. so that's not so easy for me at this time to understand exactly what is causing bootloops for some people and actually, even if it wouldn't be impossible to find that out, that's not interesting for me so don't see a point in losing extra time in that research sorry (I'm already wasting too much time in debloat operations [emoji14] )

no problem mate glad it was helpful for someone else!

btw did you delete all (or most of the) the apps in my list? and before debloating you had bootloops?
because I immediately debloated and only then I installed xposed, so was wondering if maybe also installing xposed without debloating could be working actually as never tried here this way
in any case, just testing right now some more debloat... would like to increase the debloat list... will update OP if I find it safe and will have no problems after new deletions

Hi!
All works perfect on my D5803 with A1 Austria.
Thanks a lot and keep up
Ps: Akku %
Removed stuff
Moly my friend, you've just hit the same content I did remove manually on mine... I'm not kidding! :highfive:
Unfortunately I didn't have time enough for deeper tests (my regular week days are being tough), but it looks faster as hell. But for some obvious reason, I need to get back on LP, and I hope it just for a short period of time... and let's pray for the rovo!

Hi chief!!
yes indeed it is a super fast rom! and it comes so slim.. not even close to usual bloated stock fw... i love it!
rovo should do his magic soon, and hope you'll do the same! can't imagine this rom plus xposed and your modules.. it would be just simply wonderful!! :fingers-crossed: :good:
see you!!
How is the battery life with your debloat script? Is it possible to get 2 days usage with 3-4h sot?

debloating MM is not so effective for battery life actually as MM comes already slim. it is essentially to optimize and remove useless stuff you can also download from the store. btw yes 2 days and 3-4 hours sot is very easy to reach here, with or without debloat script! I could get that in LP too...
as I am back to concept rom (much more stable now) and Sony added more bloat in it, I updated the script and list of things removed by the script
@moly82, I use your scripts on my xperia's but wondered if it would work on my Nexus 9 too?
Anything you could see that would be an issue?
Would it just skip items it did not find?
yes it should just skip unfound items so no worries but backup first just in case who knows

Cool thanks, will give it a whirl
@moly82 Thanks for the list of deletable files, most of which I had already done. The concept FW should be the commercial release in my opinion. I only flashed it because I had an issue with my nav bar not working even after restoring an old back up so I fully wiped the system and internal memory and started from a new FW. I wish I had of changed over sooner!
@moly82 have you managed to get any camera mods to work with Concept? That's one of the biggest issues I'm having right now with this rom, the stock camera/video is so bad; washed out, overexposed white balance, and nasty lens flair. I was able to flash the Z5 camera libs, but that didn't seem to help. I tried Camera 2.0, but that caused a force close.
On a side note, I was able to regain special Sony audio settings, ex. Clear Audio, S-Force, etc., using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=65873613
