This is a something I'd like to bring to the attention of the Nexus S brothers of SGS
there has been some initial research going on into this topic
USB Host Driver For Ext HDD?
as it will be extremely beneficial to us, since we lack the microSD option, that the SGS has in stock.
if we can at least make the Nexus S be able to mount USB memory sticks, or USB HDD, then we'll be able to have access to mass amount of space, specially when you want to watch a whole load of 720 HD movies which i used to bring along with me on many microSD until i switch phone service providers.

now with just the left over 16GB space, it's no much room for enjoyment as the MP3 and the Apps will take-up most of the remaining space
I wouldn't mind connecting USB sticks like this when i want to watch HD videos, do backups, or installing new apps/games
Oh !! That would be a great feature. Just like Nokia n8 has USB on go feature
Any word on this?? I have a trig hhd looking for some nexus love....

Yeah, I spent some time poking around the kernel. The kernel shows every sign of OTG being valid. The topic got moved to general (?).
Just need a cable to try it out. Should work.
They did it already for Froyo 2.2 on Nexus ONE
Nexus One USB host driver

any chance we can get one of our own for our phone?
This warrants a stickied position? Really?
I like the idea, but...

Wouldn't stickying it in the development section make it more visible to the devs?
only actual DEV works goes into DEV section
everything else stays in General or Q&A

Work it ? ?
id really love something like that :'D!!!!!!!!
I have something like this , but in NS I haven't driver to work it
bump, the desire hd just got the option, we want it badly
agree http://www.xda-developers.com/android/usb-host-driver-ported-to-desire-hd-usb-devices-rejoice/
also the one from Galaxy S is nearly there, they are just figuring out ways to power the usb port, code is ready

I'm thinking to approach this problem using nexus s kernels, cause we already have some cyanogenmods ready for sgs. I'll take a look. What makes me curios is that noone working on Nexus S was able to accomplish this, and for Nexus S the job looks easier.

Still nothing? noone interested in having more space available?
apparently no DEV is interested in making it work on the Nexus S
both N1 and SGS got it, except us
I have part one cord part one thumb drive I'm missing the connectors to attach them and the 1 most important thing is missing part no dev experience lol and I have the drive to want this done I would carry that damn thing with me everywhere if this would be possible haha.

Why do you say that? Are you the ebay seller? So far I have not seen anyone get a cam working......
Yeah, I checked that item and it looks more complicated than the HTC camera. What exactly stops us from putting a cam in there ?

if the nook color had a camera on it, i seriously think that it would be one of the best tablets for $200 (if you mod it)......but without it...it still is one hell of a device considering what was on it when i bought it

If you somehow successfully putting a cam on the NC, can you please also adding the GPS chipset so we can turn the NC into the 7" portable navigation device.
Also modifying the bluetooth and/or adding microphone so we can make a phone call.
Big thanks
Ur right lol if devs can developed roms and soft wares I'm sure they can rig a camera

microphone is never going to happen, AFAIK, i know that they have had issues with mic's on CM7
as for webcams and whatnot, CM7 does have USB hosting available, so you can connect a usb hub and a ubh webcam and have it work on the NC, as for a camera installed inside of the nook...i do not know, i'm sure there is some way to do so..but i am not about to destroy my NC to try this out...

I use it for backup and restore just in case the tablet needs to be wiped for upgrading. Also media files like music and video clips can be stored in it, but for HD movies I use a usb adapter hooked up to an external hard drive.

curious if this is porn that is themed in a restroom, or if it is porn that is for use in the restroom, or both? lol
Maybe if you're bored or feel curious you can try dual booting Ubuntu? I'm not sure if that requires Ubuntu to run off the SD. But definitely something to look into?
i just want Windows XP on it

What port is that?
Why does this Nexus 7 not have that port?
I have a funny feeling its a HDMI port, but only for certain Nexus 7 devices. The Xperia Play Developer version had the same thing, but the normal one they sell doesn't have one. So it may be a "developers" Nexus 7 with a HDMI port.
Just my thoughts...
Yeah, looks like a micro-HDMI port.
Probably found on the developer and/or internal versions for mirroring to external display during presentations (like on yesterdays keynote).

I think you mean Mini, right?
Nexus 7 with no HDMI is a big deal-breaker for me.
I agree it looks like a Mini-HDMI port.
Well, from the schematics that were posted today, I have a feeling that is a JTAG port, since it's located right beside J1 (a 24pin connector on the main board) that has serial and JTAG IO pins. It would be good for the engineers not to have to keep opening the unit to flash it vis JTAG, which is a LOT faster than flashing over USB.
What schematics are you referring to?
Edit: Never mind, I found the thread.
The nexus 7s from the unveiling event had micro hdmis for presenting them on the big screens. That's where these pictures are from.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
It's probably a HDMI connector. But HDMI is usually already supported (on other platforms) by running an MHL output over the micro-USB. This would explain why they didn't bother adding that port to production line. (It's always better to have to buy external adapters, right!?)
However, for the Samsung Galaxy S3, there have been some confusion, which seem similar to what you got there...
PS. JTAG is very unlikely. They'd never redesign the entire case just to add a JTAG port.
Wow, nice work digging up an old thread. (look at that date gap...). The presentation N7s had HDMI ports.
Go check out some of the other threads from this date (the day it was announced) and you'll see this question was asked, debated, fought over, and confirmed several times here on XDA.
Hey, so I found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778012 and I thought it was such a shame the project was closed down. I think it would be great if someone could attempt this again! This way in theory, A person could connect their android tablet or phone to a tv or speaker system, and from another android device use there google music que to stream to that device. It woul also give a great way to bring life to old devices.
I'm going to start a bounty by saying I'll add $15
To get the apk's, just unzip the files from this factory image http://d-h.st/yeo
I'm also going to attempt, while working on my nexus 7, any suggestions would be great since I am far from a developer!
UPDATE 1 March 3/2013 Okay, for anyone else who would like to help out, I just found this Nexus Q Rom http://d-h.st/JCy It is based on IAN67K and deodexed, and has thing slike nova in it. The main use for it would be that it is a deodexed rom. Hope it helps someone! If you want to read about the rom you can check it out here http://rootzwiki.com/topic/35778-rom-nexus-quantum-singularity-project-phase-1-4-v102/
So another update, I've atttatched HubBroker.apk that can be installed as a normal apk, and will give your device the nexus Q setup screen. Don't open after install, hit the home button and then select broker.

Be my guest, I haven't made much progress! And it would be awesome if you could post any progress you make and problems you run into and then maybe someone else will know a solution so it can be a community effort
So the current problem is that it cannot be picked uoby a different device running the nexis q app. My theory, along with the previous attempt of this project was that we need to change the Bluetooth id of the device running hubbroker. When running it and going into the normal Bluetooth settings it renames the device as the nexus q
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I have 2 devices with NFC. If I have broker open and beam it to the other it asks me what room the Q is located in. But then it just says connecting forever.

NICE WORK
I've created my own case for the ouya I was trying to make it more functional than good looking. It has 2 switches one is a replacement for the power button as I didn't want to mess with positioning the circuit board so I could press the button. The other switch bypasses the fan controller and gives 12v straight from the psu to both the motherboard fan and the extra fan I added in. The fan power from the board is still hooked up but, Its protected by a diode to prevent voltage feedback into places it shouldn't be. The way it's hooked up it also turns on the second fan if the switch is not on. The second board beneath the second fan is a cheap powered usb hub so I can hook up a mouse, keyboard, and a usb stick.
