[Q] Erase setting that is locking me out of Windows?? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Ok so here is the deal, and yes i have been searching for hours to see if there is already a thread and yes I already posted this in the ROM thread i was using but no answers. I was running an Android build that runs on RAM and i messed up a setting. In MDJ's froyo Streak lite ram build there is a cyanagen setting for the lock screen. I was trying to set it back to the slide lock because i had it on the menu button and somehow my fat fingers set it to the trackball and locked the phone in one fellow swoop. So now i am locked out of Windows too. I rn task29 reflashed stock rom, changed radio, flashed a lite custom winmo rom and hard reset numerous times. If i let the HD2 go into sleep by itself it is fine most of the time but if I put it into standby with the end key hard button it will never unlock. The screen wakes up but i cannot move the lock.
I would greatly appreciate it if anyone has a suggestion for me, obviously this change has stuck to my phone somewhere and i cannot find where it is. Please help this idiot out. thank you.

Sorry but have I missed something here, How on earth can this lock you out of windows??
Just reboot the phone!

i understand it seems weird but there is a software conflict some where because it will NEVER come out of sleep in any rom if i put it to sleep with the power button. the time changes so the phone is running when i wake it but the touchscreen does not recognize touch.

Sounds like your digitizer took a dump.
This is not an issue with Android or WM, you have a faulty piece of hardware.
Just an unfortunate coincidence that it happened while switching between Android and WM.
Unless your screen still responds to touch while in Android?
But then if thats the case, it's a problem with WM touch drivers, not Android.

I booted into Android and i was still getting sod but i was able to break out of it a couple hours ago but mostly it locked up. Now it is locking the screen completely even when it is not locked in Winmo so maybe you are right. But usually i can navigate through windows fine until it locks....Ok hard reset now i can maneuver around in windows again but standby still locks me out only if i use the power button to sleep it.

Its simple to disprove that it has anything to do with android.
Just remove sdcard and do a hard reset of windows mobile. No androind files are in your phone they are all on your sdcard.
Your problem is hardware based not software unless a hard reset solves it or another WM rom.

htc hd2 leo android built.

screen blacking out

Hi new to hd2 android. I have tried multiple roms and and droid builds ,but the problem I am having is after I format my sd card with the sd formatter that I was recommended I transfer the android build to it let it boot up. After that I reboot it and set everything up ,and 99% of the time I will set the phone down and when I go to pick it back up I hit the power/end button to turn on the screen and I get no screen I just get buttons lighting up. Is there anything that I am not doing or doing that is causing this. Please help. I am no stranger to electronics as I modify about everyone of them that I own ,but I can't crack this one. I've been working at it for over a week keep getting the same result. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance

It would help if you added your WinMo ROM/Radio and the Android build this is happening with?
Sorry I am running the elegancia gtx right now with the froyostone sense 3.1.7 and the 2.10.50 radio ,but it has done it with numorous builds
Me too
I have the same problem and i have tried several different builds and am running chuckyRom
I have tried the chucky rom and the ozdroid rom as well with almost every single android build that is half way decent. This sucks I would love this phone to be up and running good. Now I did have the combo of chucky rom with the same radio I have now with the hyperdroid 1.6 and it ran for a few days with no problems ,but the darn battery died quick. I haven't been able to get it to work properly since.
Hit the phone button it will wake up faster

U have advanced task killer installed?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
I'm having the same issue, and yep, Advanced Task Killer is installed and running.
same here
i am having all those same problems and i have tried it with and without ATK
I do not have task killer installed not any version of any of the task killers. If a android build has it in it I go in and uninstall it.
Try changing your sd card. I saw some cards (such as team branded) exhibit that behaviour.
Same problem here tried changing the SD card and same thing happens.
Might have found a fix for this for now. All I did is turn auto rotatescreen in android display settings hope it works for you guys.
I have just started using the newest Energy rom with tmobile usa radio and I was getting the black screen of death. After a bunch of messing around I set it to the compact start menu and turned off sense in windows mobile home options and now the problem went away. YMMV
In the middle of reading all the posts here yestarday I glanced at motoman234's sig and I decided to try his setup and so far twelve hours later still no black screen of death. I don't know if it was my winmo rom that was causing it for me or the radio I was using ,but so far so good. The touch screen seems a little laggy which I wish wasn't there ,but again happy to have a setup that is stable.

[Q] Android Freezing Problem

Hi, I love Android on my HD2. But everytime I install a new build, the same problem is occouring everytime. And I hope that when I install a new ROM the problem will go away, this is not the case.
the problem is this, when I put the phone in lock for a short or long period of time, the phone freezes, and I have to remove the battery and restart in order to get it working again. Now, I have been trying Gingerbread, but the problem still occoured.
I am using NAND to install BTW. Also, I was told to use SETCPU to fix this issue, and set the dropbox to 'smartass' I have done this, and the problem does not go away.
Any ideas? If you can find a solution I will give you loads of thanks!
I sometimes have a slight freeze upon waking phone and cant slide unlocker but its only for a few seconds and fine after that.
Try task29 and then reflash magdlr/rom etc see if it helps in your situation.
Also what apps are you installing each time you install rom, Something may be causing issue on your phone.
The problem is not that the touch screen frozen, but that the phone will not wake, sometimes it has the blinking green LED at the top of the device.
Thanks.

I install TypoClock And SetCPU. Also, some marketplace apps like quadrant and advanced taskiller.
Bumpety-bump-bump.
Anyone have a solution?

i take it you've also upgraded your radio version as well? when i first fiddled around with android i had the famous sod or sleep of death..wherein the device wouldn't wake up. i ugraded the radio to 2.15 and that fixed the problem. haven't had a freeze ever since.
I have the same problem. Dose any one have a solution for it?
I dose have a solution, as stated before, upgrade your radio.
Ya sounds like an outdated radio. Upgrade to 2.12.50 or 2.15.50

I am facing this only when battery is bellow 15%. If this is the case then just charge it before it goes to 15%.
If that's not the case then you can try installl MAGLDR v1.3
Do you have this issue in Froyo or Gingerbread ROMs? or in both? What version of CWM are you using?
I have the same problem on MIUI since after approximately 1.3.18 (cutover from Froyo to Gingerbread). Also have this problem on CME DHD2 Compact.
It is also an issue if someone tries to call me.
Sometimes, if I try waking the phone from sleep (power button) and it hits the black screen, and I wait long enough, it will wake. But again, the only real fix I know is pulling the battery.
I am running MAGLDR 1.13
Also, another fix that works sometimes is plugging in the phone into a power source e.g. laptop USB port
It's something about light sensor, when you put your screen into a strong light it would be turn "unblack" again. I don't know how to fix it, is this a problem with this hardware because it's broken or my version of LEO doesn't support NAND full functionaly.
Begging for answer!
i know about my poor english
I have this problem too.. running latest Hyperdroid rom by pongster (magdlr version) and it's driving me crazy. Sometimes phone wakes up normally after a call like it shoud, sometimes is stuck with black screen for few minutes, hours even (although i can't wait that long so i pull out battery)..
Back on WinMo everything worked normally, so it's not an hardware issue with proximity/light/whatever sensors
Is there any fix out yet? I googled and searched this forum a lot and haven't found nothing much helpful, ony a couple of threads with bunch of people with same problem like me. An option for disableing those sensors would be just as good, i've tried few apps for keeping the screen awake and none of them actually worked..
Any help is appreciated.. thanks in advance.
Bump!
Anyone? :/
I have the same issue - running Gingerbread, MAGLDR 1.13
Very annoying cause everything else works super.
Temporary solution i use is to use headset / handsfree. Then there is no problem.
So experts on XDA, we are begging for a fix for this!
I have the same issue since first Android roms and never found a real solution for the problem.
Instead i found a bypass that works for me reasonably well (99% of the cases the screen turns on after a call).
I installed the following 2 applications that wakes up my screen after the call (install then enable each one):
1. Screebl - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keyes.screebl.lite
2. Modified version of SpeakerShake - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=449922&d=1290758421
I suspect this issue is somehow related to hardware failure in light sensor. Installing these programs solve this problem for me.
Also take a look on the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835127
I have had the same thing happen to me but only around 2 or 3 times in a about 3 months of usage. Had it on both CM7 and MIUI Gingerbread ROMs regardless of battery percentage.
MAGLDR 1.13
Some users experience this using SetCPU
if you have a profile for screenoff and it's set to the lowest frequency, try to set the frequency to something above 500 MHz.
If you have smartass set as governor, then even setting the frequency to it's highest (without OC) during screenoff wouldn't change anything in battery performance, but the device will wake up faster.
Your setup works for me as well - until we`ll see a fix for it this will do

Incearca Sanity app, cauta pe Market, mie aceste doua nu mo ajutat
with me is so but only if I navigation (Navigon) and to have someone call me and then left the screen black and I can not make
try to change the kernel. that works for me
hey guys! i found the solution goin through the market!
download an app called "Sanity" theres a free version in the regular android market.
go to the settings > general > check "Reverse Proximity" (This will give you some warning about not using it if you DONT have a buggy proximity sensor). Check it anyways. Then go back to preferences then click "Proximity" scroll down and uncheck Turn off screen and leave leave the Turn on screen checked. this will force your phone to stay on during calls so that it never has to go through the proximity phase of calls this no more black screens. Hope this was helpful ^_^
Thanks!
I had this problem aswell. MIUI & Cyanogen mod were the ROMs I was using, and this problem started occuring after a few months use (my screen is also damaged from a fall, so maybe the sensors are a little damaged as well).
When I installed the WinMo 6.5 stock ROM again, everything was normal, except that my screen still turns black during calls BUT I can activate it again by pressing the power button.
Now I installed android again and the Screebl app (enabled it) and I have the same functionality! The only problem that remains is that my screen still turns black during calls, so I have to answer with the phone button and putt down phone with the power button. Still beats having to remove the battery though .
If someone has a fix for the black screen, it would be more than welcome!
But, thanks a million for the Screebl app tip! I can use my phone again .

I also try with WinMobile and the problem was still there ...
I think the sensor is broken ....
I will bring my phone to service ... and when i take it back I will tell you whether it is repaired
Solution
I had the same problem with Android roms on my HD2. I saw in an other thread a member (z-o-r-r-o-, thanks btw) wrote "just clean dust on the screen, where sensor is situated". This looked like a joke to me, but it's not. On a review of the phone I found the place of the proximity sensor. This is on the top of your screen next to the speaker, on the left if you look at the screen. I just took off the protection layer of the screen and cleand the sensor and the problem was solved. So I cut of a bit from the protection layer so that the sensors arn't touched by anything.
I think the problem is that this sensor is much more sensitive with android roms.
Hope this works for you to.

How do I know if I installed Froyo 2.2 correctly?

Is there anyway to run a diagnostics to see if anything is up to par? So far the only thing I've noticed is the Swype keyboard doesn't work. I have to manually type every keep instead of swiping them..
So I got the swype, voice to work. When I try to turn off the phone it gives me three choices. One is to power off, two is to reboot, and three is boot loader. Which is the best route? Every time I turn the phone off and turn it back on it boots in WinMo6.5 I have to go through files to the storage card and boot froyo2.2 from there. It won't boot it from 6.5 even though it gives me the option. Sorry for the questions. I'm knew to this and trying to learn. Lots of pages to read and I am 100% sure I missed some very important information.
You have to have it run off the NAND, if you dont want WinMo.
And there is no such thing as best route to turn it off. If you want to shut it down hit "Power off" if you want to restart hit "Reboot" , "Bootloader" doesn't work for us so it's the same as "Reboot"

I''ll read up on the NAND I don't know what that is yet. Problems I'm experiencing so far now that I have played around with the phone is the battery. It doesn't last as long and stops charging after 88% I think because I have Froyo on my storage card and on the actual phone memory. It doesn't boot up every time either. I have to reboot the phone about 4-6 times before Android kicks on. 90% Of the time the network fails and I have no internet. I think I might of not installed the Radio correctly. That might be my problem.

I think it was a generell problem with SD ROMs.
Just try to fully load your HD2 in WM and start Android after that.
Think that was the solution. Long time ago...
If you don't like WM 6.5 anymore ( i hope so.. ), you could try to "install" Android in the NAND of your HD2. That means, that you havn't WM6.5 anymore. If you start your phone, Android will boot, and not WM (make sure you backuped all the data before doing this.. contacts, pictures, ...).
Of course you can switch back to WM6.5, if you installed Android in the NAND.
There are many guides in this forum and its very easy to do (here is one of 1000: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893948).
And i think there is no "wrong installed".. if you did something wrong, android won't start. If an app (for example swype) won't work, it's maybe a bug or something.

Already tried that. Even went as far to download MAGLDR V1.13, and the DFT. DFT doesn't work. Says there is no readme.txt so it stops installing.. So I'm stuck on the black screen. Been working on it for the past several hours trying different tutorials, youtube video how to's and nothing. All end up the same while trying to install. " No readme.txt found"
Well I don't know what the hell I did, but I got android on there and it isn't the version that looks like the one found on a stock G2(USA) It's a weird android system I've never seen before. It's actually pretty cool. When I reboot my phone it boots into Android.
Edit: I think it's the Android 2.3.3 or something Gingerbread for the HTC Desire... Only thing wrong so far is that I have no data connection. I can call people, but I can't connect to the internet.. Any suggestions ?
Edit: It's 2.2 not 2.3, but When I googled up the loading screen it shows the HTC Desire with the same screen.. I don't know. Just guessing here.
Edit: Yea My phone thinks it's an HTC Desire. Is that probably why my data connection doesn't work?
Search that Rom's thread, no data connection issue has probably been discussed there
There is 645 pages in that thread and most of the pages I read no1 is experiencing this problem..
Okay my problem is the mobile network settings. I copied the ones off of my G2 phone, but it seems it's not compatible with the HDC HD2 running on HTC Desire android system... I don't know. I'm at a loss. I tried searching to see if I can find the network settings for this phone and am having bad luck today....
Edit: now 3g and 4g (H) is showing on the phone. Not sure if It's perminent or just glitching.. Will update you guys tomorrow.
So far everything is working great. Including the network . Anyway to get swipe to work? I can't find it in the phone settings .

[Q]HD2 Boot issue

Hi everyone,
I've got some problems with my good old HD2 but I don't really understand what happened and I'd like to know if some people could help me.
My HD2 was running successfully under WP7/Android, but I wanted to go back to WinMo 6.
It was very hard to flash it (never had so much problem), even with the official rom : long to boot, then animated HTC bootsplash freezing, reboot, displaying first bootsplash without red-written informations... frozen.
Only one solution : wait for a long time without the battery then it was successfully working. But if I had to reboot : freezing in the same way. (with official and custom roms).
Unfortunately, Marketplace were down the day I installed WinMo, so unabled to install my apps.
So I wanted to try new tango roms > 1E FATAL HIT.
If I let the phone cooling down it works again, but if I'm surfing the web my HD2 comes really warm (hard to touch the bottom without burning my fingers), restarts himself and > FATAL HIT...
Any idea ?
(Still the same sd card)
It's been a long time since he last overheated that way.
When I received it, I had some troubles to first charge it. The led turned orange for 1or2 minutes and then went off. I used a fan under the phone and it charged for the first time. Since then only overheating while flashing or under first wp7 roms. No warranty anymore.
I'm sure that the hd2 temperature makes the Fatal hit.
Thank you for your ideas

Maybe you should use task29, wipe the whole system clean, and flash lighter roms such as hyperdroid or any cyanogenmod or MIUI rom you like. Download a task manager too and see what is eating up your memory. Hope it helps.

Hi,
thanks for your reply.
I did a few t29 in order to flash back winmo and then magldr, but it didn't change anything.
In fact, even the first boot in wp7 to configure the phone makes it reboot and the phone is a bit warm in only 2 minutes

It's a hardware problem which you really can't fix unless you're willing to take the phone apart. It's a fairly dangerous process and it's likely that unless you have a good amount of knowledge about the subject you'd break your phone completely.
Oh no I was fearing that kind of answer...
But why when WinMo or Android are running, it works well ?
The hardest part is booting (after a few restart freezing and errors), then it's rather ok.

I'm not really sure, but the phone should never heat up enough to freeze, even when in intensive use Sorry, but I don't think your HD2 has much life left in it
Thanks for your reply.
I think it happens every summer since I have it (2years) but I'd be sad to loose my hd2. I'm really proud to have bet on it, sure that it would be the best phone of all time, and it really is.
Brought me the best version of Windows Mobile ever, then Android, and finally Windows Phone.
I don't think there will be any other phone that could do that. It was powerfull (as much as the ones that are released today), and was out just in the good year (when htc was switching to Android and WP but using the HD2 as a reference, making us able to run everything.

thanks for your reply.
I did a few t29 in order to flash back winmo and then magldr, but it didn't change anything.
In fact, even the first boot in wp7 to configure the phone makes it reboot and the phone is a bit warm in only 2 minutes

I had the same problem, you can try this:
1. Remove the battery from the HD2 and check the middle pin of the row of 3 that should touch the Battery connections. This middle pin is probably offset to the front or even croocked.
2. Gently bend the middel pin back and straight up. (be careful not to break it)
3. Check if all pins are straight up now.
4. Gently reinstall your battery and recharge to full.
With me this happens every few months when I f** too much with the battery and it gets extremely hot. After this bending back its all OK and no heat problem anymore.
