is there a way to "tweak" the android setting so that the screen will wake up (but still locked) when SMS arrives?
I am looking for a system tweak rather than a third party app to do this
all i have is a 3rd party app. sms popup. you might want to give it a shot. screen stays locked but your phone wakes up from sleep mode.
SmsAwake
PERFECT SOLUTION: Download an application called SmsAwake. It simply wakes up your screen when you receive a text message. You can even adjust how many seconds you would like screen illuminated for. Awesome app!!

Hi,
been looking for a tweak about this, but haven't been able to find any.
Does anyone know how to disable the screen on the TyTN to turn on when receiving SMSs? It's very annoying, as the only notification I need is the beep sound and having the screen come to life everytime I receive an SMS is a hazzle when it comes to carrying it in my pocket. Touch-screens are a wonderful thing, but not turned on while in ones pocket. ;-) All sorts of nasty things could happen then.
Cheers,
Steffen
don't know how to totally disable this but you could use a program called mortsaver that lets you lock the screen a bit more like a conventional phone.
for example, I have to press the power button then the internet explorer button within 2s to unlock the screen.
when you receive a message the screen stays locked, although not when I get a call (might be able to change that tho).
I use spb pocketplus to put a 'lock' shortcut on my today screen that activates mortsaver.
I can't remember the website but google it and i'm sure you'll find it.
cheers
Thanks!!!
I've installed MortSaver 2.0 and it really does the trick!! Thanks for the advice.

start->settings->sounds and notifications->notifications->event:new incoming SMS->uncheck "display msg on screen"
I have problem how my Touch HD handles Alarms and Reminders. Not sure that this is WM 6.1 general problem or Touch HD specific but I would appreciate any help regarding this.
When I set alarm (clock settings) or create new appointment I expect from my phone to play sound until I do something about it. But that doesn't happen. When Alarm/Reminder starts, everything is ok but... After sound is played first time, there is almost 1 minute delay. And after that delay sound is played at same interval twice more times and that is it. Phone goes back to standby mode and until I power on manually I wont see message popup, or in most cases just a small bell icon in title bar.
My setting are pretty simple - everything is checked under Sounds and Notification:
Enable sounds for: Events, Programs, Notifications, Screen Taps, Hardware buttons
For Reminder event: Play sound (Alarm-Rooster), Repeat, Display Message on screen, Flash light for 5 minutes, Vibrate.
My questions are:
1) Is there possibility to loop sound while it is playing? Not just repeat at "unknown" intervals
2) Is there possibility to repeat alarm/reminder until it is turned off?
3) Is there way to have some notification window which can't be put in background until I do something about it.
I am not heavy user, so I don't check regularly what is going on on my mobile. But I do expect to be somehow notified when some important events happens (sounds, blinking, vibrate - just not led, because I can barely see it).
I tried to find program which handles alarms, notification and run into PhoneWeaver which is great but problem remains. As I understand PhoneWeaver rely on WM Alarms and Notifications behavior. It just adds convenient notifications for SMS, E-mails.
What bugs me is that I have now perfectly working notification when Email, Missed Call or SMS arrives. It will repeat chosen sound on certain periods of time until I do something about it. And standby doesn't have anything to do with it.
But problem still remains, Alarm and Reminder sound notification is repeated just three time until phone back to the Standby mode and that is it. If I don't see it then, I won't until I turn on phone.
Any ideas?
if I snooze an event for 1 hour, it comes back with a reminder in 30 minuets
WinMo handling of notifications is horrible IMHO
it may have been good enough back in the days of WinMo 2003 but it's just annoying now
my biggest gripes
*not enough snooze intervals (or a custom snooze time)
*wakes up the whole device to show u the alert
plus it's buggy
if I snooze an event for 1 hour, it comes back with a reminder in 30 minuets
does anyone else have this issue and maybe know a fix?
Is there any custom application that handles default WM behavior regarding alarm/reminders and notification? I found few, but all of them are just providing handy UI and keep using buggy WM. At the moment I am using PhoneWeaver in order to have profiles like on my Nokia. But look like it doesn't have full support for HD because I can't even change sound for Reminder.

I want know also how I can fix that. I have ticked "show message on screen" and then a "bubble" comes on the screen when I have alarm/appointment, but that works only once. Next time I have a alarm or appointment, theres only bell icon on top bar.
I check settings and "show message on screen" is unticked! Help?

I found a same issue with Touch Pro, that's really annoying problem
The cure (almost)
Yes the repeating alarm/reminder thing is a bit weak to say the least I REALLY need to know if I've missed a call, SMS, meeting etc. There's a real nice powerful app called PhoneAlarm which does everything you could possibly want. Almost too customizable. The problem is it relies on the Today plugin but most of us are using HTC's TF3D which disables all the plugins. I've tried a few others but ended up with something called "Best Reminder" - corny name I know but its ok'ish. Try it in case it helps.
SPB Phone Suite, IS WHAT YOU SHOULD DOWNLOAD, it has a repeating alarm bug fixes, and also repeated notifications for SMS/emails/Missed calls.
Try it, its sweet!

Sorry, I forgot to mention this:
No need to enable the Today plugin, just Set it, and forget it!
Will try it...

If it's from SPB it should be good
I'm just having another go with http://www.pocketmax.net/alarmPal.html. Last time I tried alarmPal it kept crashing but this time round its on the device memory and seems ok so far. Its cheap too. "Best Reminder" is a half solution so hopefully one of these should work out.
I really like some of the things about S2U2, and I apologize if this has been posted before...
I want to have something that will lock my screen but allow me to go back to where I was before I left off. The "system" lock that was put into the Telus ROM sucked, it completely removed whatever you were doing and cancelled back to the home screen.
I put on S2U2 and it was great, very pretty, etc. but when I was done with a call, I'd see the prompt come up with "Do you want to save this number?" but it locks immediately afterwards.
I also really like the TF3D interface that comes up when a call comes in, with their "slide to answer" function, and would also like to keep that.
So, basically, I only want the S2U2 to come on when I've put the device to sleep, not when resuming from receiving a call.... I'm asking too much, aren't I?
Is there any way to stop that?
Also, when putting it into Landscape mode, it buggers up the entire screen and I can't see anything. I don't have a screen shot, but it's a major annoyance.
The last problem you mentioned is already known. S2U2 has some problem in landscape if you used the album before.
Try to deactivate the caller ID in the S2U2 settings. I don't have any problem with S2U2 and incoming calls so far.
Sorry. not too sure by what you mean by album before. Can you explain what I have to change to get lanndscape to work?
I find the screen rotation totally useless, unless maybe in Opera. So I just don't need it at all in any other app. Particularely it's extremely irritating in the Messaging app. As it sometimes rotates the screen in middle of typing if I am on the go or the move it a bit. How can I disable the screen rotation on the Messaging app?
Download this application and add sms as an exception.

Is there a way to set the incoming call screen to orientate to the portrait display?
I have set the LCD density to 240 from 160, which I find gives a great experence on the STREAK. The text is big enough to fill the full sized screen. But the only challenge is with a ringing in-coming call. The name is cut off on the bottom, so I can't see who is calling before I pick-up.
Once I answer, I can rotate the phone into portrait and I can see all the info just fine. But a ringing call won't change orientation.
Any thoughts?
What I found is that the incoming call screen's rotation follows the lock screen. If you disable the lock screen using "No Lock" the incoming call screen is always in portrait. There doesn't seems to be any way to overcome this, i.e. force the lock screen to be always in portrait. The highest you can go with the lcd density is 180 if you still want to see the caller's name/number.
For the record: I found an app that seems to work. Incoming Call Plus (beta) changes the orientation to portrait by default. And it has options to reject incoming calls by text message, which is a handy feature.
I use incoming call plus too, but its annoying that you don't have the slide effect anymore. Hanging up by accident happens occasionally
