You are probably better off just setting the default messaging app to be GoSMS, then hiding the native messaging app with your launcher. I found that removing some unwanted apps such as GTalk caused problems with others (mainly google ones)
I have Handcent and the CyanogenMod messaging apps and the both receive the same data and handle the same data, I only use handcent because the (quite older) ROM that I am using uses an old CM Messaging app which doesnt allow me to select from contacts.
If you do decide to remove the .apk's or .odex's be sure to back them up first before deleting them in /system!
Good Luck!

The answer is yes.

I finally broke and got a smartphone. I was against getting one until I switched to Sprint(I hate Verizon) and opted to get the 4g Shift. Love it. Just rooted it, no problems there. I'm running the NonSense ROM with the 1.8ghz Kernel and it works awesome.
I don't like that the texts don't display the Facebook pictures anymore, any suggestions?
I'm also trying to find a way to update my Voicemail. I try running the .apk using a file manager but it says "no space for application" and I don't know how else to install.
Anyways, I'm looking forward for the polished versions of all these ROMS. I do love the ROM I'm using though!

The texts don't display fb pictures anymore because you're running a rom without sense so the native message app on your phone won't sync the photos..what you could do is install fb from market and sync it with all contacts..should fix this..
How much space if available on your phone to install to? I use adao file manager just cause it shows a little completion bar for phone mem and sd mem

I downloaded the FB app from market and sync'ed with all contacts but still no luck.
I love the new Phone app that it came with. Much more user friendly, I'm not so hot on the messaging app.
The error isn't that it isn't space left, its "no application available" when I try to install the .apk file.
On the facebook picture on contacts, on a AOSP rom, you have to go to each contact, and edit, then press menu and join, and you can join it with a synced facebook contact. Make sure you have facebook to sync contacts (can adjust in the facebook app and in settings/accounts and sync
As far as voicemail, if you want to run non sense roms, I suggest getting google voice, and set it up for your voicemail, you'll save a lot of headaches. (Actually, I suggest google voice for voicemail whether your on aosp or sense, I like it way better)
And if you don't like the messaging app, there are a ton of replacements in the market. Handcent is popular, but kinda heavy. Try each and see what you think.

Thanks alot! I tried that but under my ROM it makes me pick between two different "contact" editors and when I try to edit it through the old "sense" looking one it FCs.
I will look into Google Voice. Thanks for your help!
Are you using a sense stripped rom or a true aoso rom? If it's just sense stripped, stripping sense from it may have broken something. If it's aosp, there shouldn't be two different contact apps...

[Q] Remove stock email apps. from stock ROM?

Is there any way to remove the stock email apps. in the stock ROM of the N7? I want the only email app. on my N7 to be MailDroid Pro..
If the stock email apps. can be removed, is there any way to set MailDroid Pro. as the default email app.?
Best bet is freezing it with titanium backup. I think you need paid version.....but it is well worth getting paid version!!
I freeze email on my phone and n7 always.
Sent from my cell phone telephone....
No need to remove stock email app. You can just remove your account for stock email if you have already set it up one and then use another email app.
or if you really need to 'remove' the app, use a root explorer app and go to /system/app and remove email.apk
titanium backup will let you uninstall as well.
Ah ok. Installed Titanium Backup. Looks like it will let me uninstall the Gmail app. and the stock email app.. Are there any other apps. or system dependencies that require the presence of either of these built-in email apps.?
Is there any way to make MailDroid Pro. the default email app.?
You could just disable it in app settings. I have done this with several of stock apps that I never use.

Disabling stock mail app

Hello all,
I have started using Aquamail because of certain limitations with the stock mail app on the G2 (one being that i cant find how to change the check frequency to less than 15 minutes).
Now that I'm using a different mail app, I'd like to disable the LG mail app. How do I do this?
Thanks!
You can use Titanium Backup to freeze the stock mail app.
Is that the only thing that will do it? Any way just using the OS?

[Q] Facebook Contacts and Third Party SMS Apps

I got a GS5 yesterday, and I love it! But I have one issue. I'm not a fan of the stock messaging app. I tried Evolve, Chomp, Handcent, Go SMS, and Hello SMS. My issue with every single one of these apps is that my Facebook contacts do not show in them. I've gone through all the settings I could think of and couldn't find a solution for this. My 10 google contacts show in there, but almost ALL of my phone numbers come from Facebook. I'm new to Android, so if this is a simple fix, I'm sorry. My facebook contacts work just fine in the stock messaging app, and show up in my phonebook, but not in any third party apps. Halp!

A simple Google search suggests that it's a Facebook issue. Facebook allows your phone or a site like sync.me to access your FB contact info. But doesn't allow any third party apps to do so.
The Handcent FAQ explains a workaround to sync your FB stuff with their app -

Default "Messages" app - Does anyone know who the 'publisher' of this app is?

Default "Messages" app - Does anyone know who the 'publisher' of this app is?
Is this Samsung's, is it Google's app?
I am trying to find some information about it: I changed messaging app because basically the default Messages app sucks, but the other one I am using (Textra) is having issues sending alerts to my hybrid watch (it did not have any issue in the old phone, not a Samsung).
Long story short: I am doing tests with both apps but I can't seem to be able to fully sync Messages or even import from a backup and I am missing texts.
Thanks.
It's probably Samsung taking the default Android message app and modifying it to work with One UI.
The messaging app that comes with the phone by default is Samsung's. I prefer the Google messaging app and have been using that instead.

I'm not sure about the icons because I'm not using the stock icon pack. Google Messages doesn't come pre-installed on Samsung phones--it has to be downloaded from the Play Store and it can be uninstalled in Settings--Samsung Messenger can't be uninstalled because it's a system app. The UI's are also different. Samsung Messenger has the same look as Samsung's Contacts App.

OK, I think that's what I have (transferred from the old phone). Samsung Messenger - if it's indeed Samsung Messenger - sucks big time. Not sure what went trough their head when they "designed" it. No way to reset it or re-sync messages. The idiotic "no subject" on all group/MMS messages and on top of that, every time you open a group message it pops up a notification that all group messages will be sent as MMS. Each and every time. Unreal.
BTW - the Google Messenger isn't great either. I used to use Textra but apparently it doesn't like my Fossil hybrid watch so it doesn't send me notifications (it did in the old phone...).
Thanks.
