[Q] Question - GT540 Optimus General

Hi i am having two doubts,
1. I installed Black Quarkx rom in my GT540 with ClockworkMod recovery. If install
V20B ROM (Official) again using KDZ updater what will happen to my Fastboot and Recovery
2. I want to use my PC's internet connection to access internet on my mobile phone.

1. both, fastboot and recovery doesn't exist then ( rom rpgrade from kdz updater flashes all)
2. maybe PDA Net can help here... google for that.

Thaks Hani
I want to take a backup of Msg,Call log,Contacts,Settings (if possible)
wat is best application to do that?

Titanium backup maybe. download

This is only for Applications not for contacts or msg's

sorry, i don't any program that can backup contacts ..etc
ps. cantacts you can copy to sim card

thanks Buddy
FYI
My Backup pro
It can backup everything

From anroid we cannot send business card but today i just came to know that we cannot receive too
it is really annoying

Best way to backup contacts is to sync your address book with Google. You can then access that contact book from any other phone in the future, and you can also edit your contacts then on the PC.
Sent from Sundroid. Oh... that happens to be a Captivate.

What to do befor upgrade to 2.1 - If you have 1.5..

Hi all,
I was wondering, what i have to do before upgrade to 2.1 starts, and if in future i want root my phone?
Now i have Android 1.5 (HTC Hero, no sim lock).
Nothing? Just upgrade, and if i want do root, downgrade to 1.5, then root? Or do i have to do some backup before upgrade?
I strongly suggest you to wait before using the official update.
I guess our developers are strong enough to defeat HTC team, but they will try to do their best to avoid rooting the Hero on update.
So be patient and update with a custom rom from xda/HTCPedia
For the rest, i suggest you to use any rom that sound nice and pretty for you in Xda Forum. A lot of guides and tutorial will explain you how to do.
i would use some way to backup all your contacts. there are software on the market for this. Or use HTC sync software, which you can get on HTC web site.
also do a full backup of your phone: Nandroid backup
This is so you can go back to what you are now.. if you dont like the update.
basic steps:
backup contacts and important things
root
do Nandroid backup
put the ROM zip file on SD card on main Directory
move nandroid backup files to your computer
go into recovery:
wipe (all options)
wipe dalvik cache
flash the ROM
good luck.
I made sure all my contacts were "google" contacts so that they synced with my google account, as "phone" contacts didn't copy across.
I would imagine that if you are considering root not to touch the official 2.1 and root it for a custom one. (from what i have heard from other ppl in the forum the 2.1 is going to be mighty hard to root from)
or if u just want the official 2.1 just go to the htc website when the roms out and download that and use htc sync.
ps. i like to keep all my contacts in google so i never have to bother about backing up my contacts
i would suggest getting astro file manager and using the application manager to backup all your apps, saves alot of time

Recovering contacts

I've upgraded from 1.6 to 2.2 (custom ROM, of course). Before i updated it, i made 2 copies: one with mybackuppro and other with Titanium Backup. Now, in 2.2 i cannot recover the contacts.
MBP says: "You do not have a google account setup". but I already have setup correctly my account (i installed MBP and Titanium from the market)
Titanium Backup says "All correct" but it doesn't restore the contacts
So i want to know how i can open the backup files with the computer to recover the contacts and copy them manually.
Thanks
PS: I will have no internet access since next friday. It's not to make you run. It's just that if you answer later i will see it when i recover my internet conection, so i will not say nothing until then.

[Q] custom rom importing

is there any way to imports contacts and apps (mainly contacts) from my stock rom to custom rom? i am a noob so useful links would be helpful
Sync contacts with google or try pc companion.
Use titanium backup for apps.
you can backup you contacts on sd card with stock contacts app and then, after installing new rom, you can import it from sd card back

(Q) How to recover contacts & sms from NAND?

Hello all, i'm desperately in need of your help!!
1) The problem:
-my NAND (internal storage memory) runs out of space all of a sudden when I know for sure that it has plenty of free space since I install almost everything on my microSD. All my user setting/sms/contacts were reset and emptied. Every time I reboot/turn on my phone, it always make me go through the whole Initial Setup Wizard as if it was a brand new phone. Apparently since there's 0 space available on NAND, it simply cannot save my setting.
2) Back ground Info:
- my hd2 has been running coredroid 1.5 (or 1.6) perfectly on NAND for over 6+ months.
- I know NAND is still working because I'm still able to boot into android.
3) What I need:
- I need to figure out a way to recover my contacts and sms from NAND before I reformat it and reflash android. Please help me I've been searching on XDA and google for the past hours but no dice
thanks a million in advance!!!
just download sms backup app and add contacts with your google accout

thanks for your response, but I dont think u understand my question. My contacts and SMS are emptied, so a regular backup app will not help me in this case. What I need is to somehow recover contacts and sms from internal storage.
Titanium backup can schedule the backup/restore
You guys are not understanding me, backup app can only backup the data that's currently there. but if the data has been deleted, these backup apps cannot recover them...
since they are gone, they have probably been removed. I don't think u can recover them..
computer memory and/or hard drives usually still retain the files that you deleted. it's possible to recover files after you format hard drive, so of course it's possible to recover files from a memory chip.
so I was looking at my TitaniumBackup folder, and I see these files:
com.android.providers.contacts-20110409-103323.properties
com.android.providers.contacts-20110409-103323.tar
com.google.android.syncadapters.contacts-20110409-103331
com.google.android.syncadapters.contacts-20110409-103331.tar
can one of the files above contain my contacts?
mythek88, first
P.S. and Titanium can backup to dropbox =)
sorry buddy...i dont think you can recover contacts and smss....they are converted into binary and stored is what i vaguely remember reading.
there is a undelete app for root users, if you are one... try this app. i cant promise it will bring back sometime, but sometime trying is all it takes...good luck
to avoid this situation, i typically sync everything with my gmail so i can always recover anytime....
Thank you for all the inputs, I've given up on trying to recover my data and have went ahead and reformat/repartition/reflashed my rom. Luckily I found an old backup of my contacts, so I only lost a handful of new numbers.

Restore SMS from mmssms.db with adb
Hi all,
Can anybody help me how to restore mmssms.db and also the contacts2.db? I read I can do it with adb, but as I tried, it sayd Permission Denied.
Can anybody write me a step-by-step guide how can I restore them for sure?
Thanks a lot.
Additionally, I tried Titanium, it doesn't see these files, so that is why is went for adb.
Please help!
Thanks a lot.

Recover contacts (and messages) after factory reset

Hi
yesterday I couldnt start my phone (S5360) anymore. Every time I tried it would freeze during the boot logo. So I tried a factory reset and it worked. But now of course all data has been deleted. Is there a way to get at least my contacts back (maybe my messages too)? Would it help to root the phone and let a recovery program such as Stellar run over the system folders?
I never used google to sync my contacts and didnt create any backup whatsover either....unfortunately.
thanks
Peter

i don't think it's possible (easily). your contact saved in internal memory. any recovery software need raw access your media. maybe possible to create partition dump from recovery mode and do recovery to that image, but to really get all your data back you need a lot of work. my advice, enable sync to google contact. it's help a lot, especially if you have multiple android device or change your rom frequently.
btw, we already have Q/A section. better to put this kind of question in that section.
for the contact...you can make a backup easily by import your contact into your sdcard (*vcf file). thats the easiest method. for the sms, there are a lot of sms backup app out there. use your hand a little bit on google and you'll surely find it.
