Has anyone else experienced this?
Sometimes (5-6 times in the last 24 hours) when the phone is sleeping, it will not wake when I hit power/unlock. I have tried installing no lock, hoping it was a glitch in the lock screen, but it still happens. The only way to fix it is to pull the battery.
Any advice?

Are you running setcpu? Mine was doing this when I would lower the speed with a screen off profile. I just uninstalled setcpu for now. I don't think the kernel supports it anyway.

No, I had it, but since I can't overclock yet, there was no need to keep it installed. I did a factory reset, so we'll see if this fixes things.

let us know how it goes... If you experienced any unable to wakes after the reset...
Seems to be working fine. I'm not sure what the problem WAS, but the reset seems to have fixed it.
Root and busybox were still intact. Had to re-do the lag fix. (Method 1)
I'll update if I get the issue again.
My phone is just so...VIBRANT
Samething happened to me yesterday morning. Woke up found my phone wouldn't go back up. I thought it was dead, until I pulled the battery. I haven't Root hack it or installed SetCPU.
Sorry to throw this issue in this topic, but anyone have any problem with the phone rotating sideway for WEB and Messaging? I thought when I first got it, it worked.. now it doesnt..
There is probably a common app here or something causing this because I don't ever recall hearing this type of issue with the Vibrant before this thread.
I had the same thing happen to me and found after much trial and error that when I pulled my SD card out I was then able to wake the phone up. Apparently there was some problem with my SD (I was using it with my previous phone..MT3G) that was causing the Media scanning process to get stuck.
I ended up backing up what I needed from the SD and reformatting it. Since then I haven't had any issues. We may or amy not have the same root cause but hopefully this does help.
I'm thinking the problem HAS to be software related. After the reset, I've reinstalled everything I had before, and it's working like a charm! I've even used Titanium Backup to remove a lot of the bloatware, and still ruining great!
I just wish we could get a logcat, but when it happens, the phone is dead until you pull the battery.

I am almost 100% SETCPU is the problem..
My phone would not come out of sleep.. I had to pull the battery and when I turned it on it would say "auto update of time and date".. That made me think the phone lost its internal battery and the phone was bad..
It started doing it right after I configured SETCPU... I installed the program last Thursday but never clicked on it.. I set it for on demand and that is when it started not coming out of sleep..
So I removed SETCPU and it still would not come out of sleep..
So I did a wipe all user data and it started working fine.. I installed SETCPU and it was still working fine.. I setup SETCPU for performance and it started messing up again and not coming out of sleep..
So, I wiped all user data again last night and it has been working perfectly since.. So I do not plan on reinstalling SETCPU...
Hey guys, I'm having an issue where my Atrix keeps disconnecting the data connection every few seconds whenever I start using data (browsing, youtube, google music, etc).
When the issue first started I was running ATT 4.5.91 with 01.77.15 Baseband. So far I tried factory reset, reflashing baseband, CM7 Ba2Tf, and right now I'm running on ATT 4.5.133 rooted and deodexed, with 01.77.36P ATT Baseband. I did the update to 4.5.133 and the current radio via CWM after wiping cache, dalvik and data. The problem still occurs.
If I keep my phone idle, it stays connected (blue bars, blue H+ icon and arrows beneath it).
A few seconds after I start browsing the web or using other data intensive tasks it keeps disconnecting the data connection at frequent intervals, every few seconds. It doesn't drop any signal bars, but the H+ and bars turn grey (lost connection to google servers) and doesn't show the Up/Down arrows below H+, meaning it disconnected the data connection. After a few seconds it connects back and everything turns blue again.
It's really annoying and I'm out of ideas. I have tried reflashing everything, another rom, another radion, also tried setting the apns by hand, all to no avail. Some insight would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance.
Sounds like an app problem. The new market did this in it's earlier versions. Would have to reboot or go into and out of airplane mode to reconnect data. What apps are you using when it happens?
In my case, CPU Tuner was causing this behavior.
I think I've set it up incorrectly or something and as soon as I uninstalled it the problem went away, but will try it again soon.

Thanks for the help, guys.
In order to test for an offending app, I cleared /data (factory reset on CWM), cache/dalvik cache and installed the latest CM7 weekly. I did not flash gapps and did not restore/installany third party apps.
The issue still appeared while browsing the web. Then I restored my current rom (att 4.5.133) and left the phone sit for a couple hours. After a while I did a few tests and everything was normal again. Then I went to bed after testing the phone for about one hour and when I woke up the issue was back. Could it be that my carrier has anything to do with it? I'm trying to get a hold of another carrier's SIM with data enable to test it out.
I had this exact issue. I was running CM7 Ba2Tf for several weeks, no problems. Then all of a sudden, my connection to google would drop for no reason at all.
The H+ & signal bars would turn white, indicating that I still had a data connection to AT&T, but no connection to google. Every time I used one of the gapps, the connection to google would drop. This was especially apparent when I was using google talk.
I cleared caches, data, re-flashed, wiped, etc..., and the problem persisted. There was absolutely no way around the problem. I'm baffled that after completing clearing & re-flashing everything, the problem persisted.
I could not find a workaround. I am now running a fruitcake variant, and do not have this problem. I really miss CM7, and am curious to hear if anyone has found a legitimate solution.
It looks like this is not a new bug either. Check out Cyanogen mod issue 3557.
I know that this thread doesn't have much action, but for what it's worth, I don't have this problem on Jokers ICS Roms.
It appears that when this problem manifests itself, it's somewhat rom specific.

Sounds strange, but I had the exact same problem after I installed Chess for Buddies. I removed the app and everything went back to normal. I do miss playing chess though

I have it on Turl's ICS.
That's crazy! Did you have it the instant you flashed the ROM, or were you able to run for a few days?
What were you running beforehand?

I think those having this problem should try removing APNs they are not using, thus only leave the one you are using.
I was having this issue on any application that would load up the GPS, as soon as I deleted all other APNs and just left the one I needed I never had the problem. I think part of the issue is when GPS connected it would quickly knock me out from data but on reconnect it would try the standard ATT APN versus the mvno I am using.
Probably won't help for everyone but that was my solution and it has worked on various ROMs I have tried (Blur, CM7, CM9).
That's a solid observation mastermind.
I would to add that the evening before I started seeing the issue, I enabled tethering on my cm7 the (ba2tf). Pretty much the next day I started seeing the issue.
Perhaps something got screwed up in the APN settings when I tethered. Up until then I hadn't seen the issue.

I'm bone stock, no root and have recently applied the L720VPUFNAE update. Since taking the update, the phone has had nothing but problems. When awakening 50% of the time I will get nothing but a black screen and will have to hard boot the phone. The other 50% of the time, it's extremely slow to accept my unlock code. Half of my home screen shortcuts are gone, just disappeared. Battery life is terrible, just a few hours of life. I've browsed here for solutions and have seen some people having similar issues on other sites, but no solutions. Is there a way to force the update again to see if that fixes it? Any other solutions aside from factory reset? Often times the phone will ring and I cannot even answer it because it won't wake up properly!
I would suggest to factory reset the phone then proceed to Odin NAE tar that is available in the development section. Of course back up important things just to be sure. I had bad battery life for a few days. Until I discovered that it was clash of clans that was draining my battery. On Wi-Fi with the screen off it would drain about 4% since using greenify on it my battery now doesn't drains 0-1% under the same circumstances. You might have a rouge app that is draining your juice.

I am having these same exact issues. Really don't want to do a factory wipe if possible, but I am starting to think I may have to do it.
Also, the wifi issues have not been fixed with this release.
Anyone using anything like Juice Defender since the update -- is it helping with battery drain?

After the last update to 4.3 a few months back, I also had some serious issues which were only solved by a factory reset. I hate the thought of doing it again, it's so much work getting all the tweaks and settings back the way they were. But it appears that may be my only option. Each OTA patch Samsung has released has been a disaster, it's getting to the point where HTC might be back on the menu for me.
Bit dramatic there. If a factory reset fixes it there's nothing wrong with the update which you might have to do with an htc update also.

As a followup to my own post, here's what I tried to fix it:
1 - A full factory reset with data wipe. Unsuccessful.
2 - A visit to the Sprint Store to have them nuke & pave the device to complete stock (it already was, but hey). Unsuccessful.
3 - Remove the Exchange Active Sync account. Successful.
To me this indicates a severe issue with the stock EAS client that comes with Kit Kat. If you are having similar problems to me, where the lock screen takes 20 seconds to appear, battery drain is enormous and the phone has problems "waking up" from screen power-off, try removing your Exchange account.
I might have to give something like Touchdown a try, I'm open to suggestions of a less costly alternative though.
once i remove it.....what will become unusable??

I don't know if it's the same for you, but I had the native Exchange Active Sync email configured on my device with a enforced PIN lock. When my EAS account was configured under KitKat, the PIN lock screen had all sorts of issues, the device would get hot and battery life would go out the window. I deleted the EAS account, not the service.
Since then, I switched to Nine for my Exchange mail and the problem is completely gone. To make sure I configured the native app and deleted it a number of times. Each time the native EAS email was configured and the lock screen set, the phone crapped out. Nine enforces the same PIN lock policy, however my lock screen no longer freezes and kills battery. I am using "device security" with Nine, not "account security".
I'm honestly surprised to be the only one to experience this after combing through this and other forums. It means there's either something unique about my phone hardware/config or my Exchange server that causes the PIN lock screen to crap out. I don't have any lock screen widgets active.
My wife has a bone stock S4 with the same problems. We flashed the stock kitkat tar with odin and wiped data which didn't help. She doesnt use exchange, just gmail. Im trying to convince her to move to a gsm provider and get a nexus. Im Effing done with sprints garbage network and garbage bloated roms. Any suggestions before I set this phone on fire?

So I had the same problem and this drove me crazy. I tried wiping Cache from OS, from Home key+Up volume+power, I tried a factory reset, I event tried applying the 4.4.2 patch via ODIN. I tried removing the lock screen and company email. The problem kept coming back.
Today however I brainstormed with a coworker who also has a working 4.4.2 S4 on ATT. After comparing settings for the lock screen we noticed the new swipe option and turned that on. What a bad move... that locked the phone up hard to the point I kept getting "com.android.systemui" stopped responding. I had no choice but to pull the battery and reset a few times and it didn't fix the problem. At last I had the idea to pull the SD card and boot the phone. That worked!
Everything worked exactly as snappy as it did with 4.3, so I rebooted a few times, got some texts, turned on the lock screen in order of swipe, and then PIN. With everything working I turned off the lock screen and put the SD card back in.
No problems....
rebooted
No problems...
turned back on the lock screen and all has been running well.
I'll report back if it slows down in a few days but at this point I've come to the conclusion that this problem has to do with the SD card. My thought is the Symbolic link which guides the OS to the SD card stay in the system even after the reset or upon reapplying a Play app. The removal and boot without the card removed the symbolic link and reset all the ExStorage to the new Kernel/OS version.
Hope this helps anyone suffering the same problems!!
Just wanted to throw my 2 pennies of experience in the ring. I'm on MF9 Bootloader and just recently moved to an NAE rom and kernel. I at first left my modem MF9, and everything was fine. Yesterday I flashed NAE modem and thats when the lag/black screen/CPU continuously working began. I cleared cache and Dalvik and still no fix. Being that I had just flashed the modem, I flashed back to MF9 modem and the issues went away. I then repeated the NAE modem flash and same issues came back. I'm back on MF9 modem and back to normal so far. I will also say that after flashing modems, there is a pop-up at boot that says something about android updating(no this is not the normal message when you clear dalvik). I dont know what the exact issue is, but for now I'm going to stick with MF9 modem.
Edit - Before anyone asks, I did check the MD5 of the NAE modem. That was my first thought is maybe a bad download.
Did you end up fixing your issue? I tried the SD card thing and it seemed good for 12 hours or so and then started having issues again. Thanks.

Same thing happened to my S4. Moved to an NAE ROM and also installed the NAE firmware. Could not figure out why this slow down was happening. After some googling I ran across something that suggested installing the MF9 firmware again. After flashing 3 times to actually get it to stick, my issues went away.
I don't understand why some phones don't like the NAE firmware, but I just chalk it up to technology is weird sometimes and have accepted it. It works fine and good signal with the MF9 firmware, so I'm not worried about getting NAE to work.
I did just notice about 3 days ago that my battery life was dropping a lot without even using it. This is on stock unroofed NAE. I used to average 15 hours with 3.5hrs screen time. Now I am lucky if I can get 7 hours with 2 hours of screen time. It might be my phone so I might go to A sprint store to see if my battery is failing. It isn't a rouge app that is affecting it , not low signal( have an airwave). I go.to sleep with 90% and wake up 6 hours later with around 50% or less.

Well my wifi broke flashing modem to MF9... guess I'll need to flash back.
Let me preface this by saying this is my experience. I am passing this off to see if others are experiencing the same thing. I am not dissing this phone because I really like it.
I have seen more than 10 random reboots with this phone. The crazy part is when the phone reboots, I lose settings.... Like a lot of them. I recently experienced and my notification bar started malfunctioning where the settings would not pull up and I could not long press panels. I finally had to factory reset my phone.... After that, it rebooted again this morning while I was listening to the radio.
At this point I am going to have start a log to try to correlate where the problem might be.
This is very concerning. I have never experienced anything like this even with custom Roms.
Please let me know if anyone else is experiencing this.

Try removing all apps you installed and see if you cant pin it down to an app but if all said and done and phone is stock meaning you installed no additional apps and still see it happen then to me sounds like a Hardware problem and you should return it for a replacement.

My experience was different. I didn't have any random reboot but I did get the phone just hang.
Before my Springbreak trip I was testing out a sport camera and downloaded an app that could remotely control the camera. Everything seemed to be working smoothly during the test. Then when I was done, I shut down the camera, turned off the phone and started packing up.
Then I needed to use the phone, so I turned it on.. it's turned on but I couldn't do anything, the screen was unresponsive.. I couldn't swipe or press anything... I attempted to reboot it... the power button still worked... the reboot menu came on but I couldn't press anything... I still could turn the screen on and off and brought up the reboot menu.. but jsut couldn't do anything with it..
Only one option was available which is to force it reboot by holding Power and Down volumne.
That was weird, especially on a brand new device.
I've seen it reboot a few times, and it is especially annoying when you are trying to show your device off and it reboots...in front of people...randomly. I am not sure if I want to return it just yet because it is a Touchwiz/android bug that I have experienced on other devices as well. It MAY be an app issue but I can't pinpoint it yet.
I was trying to launch my DJI Phantom app and it just hung/restarted - got stuck on tmobile screen and it wouldn't let me do a hard-reset! Had to wait a few mins and it recycled.

This is exactly what happened to mine, I was going to return it and put it on the charger and it rebooted. Knock on wood, No problems since. I'm going to keep a close eye on this in case I need to exchange.
Yes, same here. Bluetooth headset with iHeartRadio makes the phone reboot and lose some settings. Maybe a bug with iHeartRadio and 6.0.1.
Using purenexus. On the april build. Noticed alot of background data being used by Android OS in stock settings app so I downloaded 'my data manager' to see if it would give me a more specific culprit.
It seems that every time I reboot my phone, com.quicinc.cne.CNEService uses around 100mb of data.
I usually reboot my phone at home on wifi so ive probably never noticed, but I rebooted my phone about 5 times when I was out the other day so it racked up like 500mb mobile data in a short time.
Anyone have this problem or know how to fix it?
1st screenshot is after 5 reboots on mobile data, stock settings app:
2nd screenshot is after 2 reboots on wifi, my data manger app.
Well I found a solution if anyone else runs into this. I tried turning off mobile data and turning it back on but the problem still persisted.
Finally, I turned off mobile data, power cycled the phone, then turned data back on. It's been fine since. No more Android OS background data usage when rebooting!
Must have been a weird glitch.

Unfortunately the solution I posted only worked temporarily. Eventually the problem came back. I tried everything I could think of but nothing worked. I couldn't afford all the data usage so I ended up doing a clean install of pureNexus may update.
Idk if it would've helped but I didn't try reflashing my kernel first. I was on elementalx. What kernel you using?

Yeah the restart without data didn't work for me either. I am on stock kernel. Been trying to avoid a clean install but may need to do that as well. Odd that it seems to be so isolated. I could find very little online about this.
Same here. I was avoiding a clean install too.

I just dirty flashed the latest version. Seemed to solve the problem.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I'm getting this on my Nexus 6P as well...completely stock, not rooted.
Has anyone found a solution, aside from a factory reset?
same issue: on Pixel
Huge amounts of data drained thru Android 7.1.2 on a Pixel that is only a few months old.
Never rooted.
Solutions welcomed...
