LOL.........
okay...we already knew this was true, but i have a question.
When the real froyo comes out, will we have to flash back to the DI18 stock w/ Odin or will we be able to update the manual way like we did for this "test"? (I know it wouldn't show up in the system updates notification)
Since ur probably gonna root and load a custom rom anyway, pretty sure u can just wait for the rom packages to be updated and go straight from dk28

Yea, but doing that will inevitably lead to problems. The best way to do it is to return to DI18 and let Android update you the normal way, then root, then install whatever rom you want. If DK28 has taught us anything, its that trying to take the shortcut leads to non functional GPS and other problems.
Which means we'll probably be getting the final build of froyo in a few months judging by the current rate of progress. SOOOOOOO tired of waiting.
I checked the Sprint forums.
One of the admin suggests that the official update will be released within 3 weeks at the least, unless there's problems. Which...there will be -_-
I've installed numerous custom ROMS and my data randomly drops. Its very frustrating! I used Odin to reinstall the DK28 Modem but I am still experiencing data drops that did not occur b4. Is there a cure for this? Please help.
I wish I knew cause I experience this every now and then.
I have the same issue using DI18, I think its more just a modem issue in general that Sammy needs to fix for us. I've also had weird errors like some sites not DNS resolving while tethering, but they will resolve in the phones browser, or when the same netbook is connected to regular wireless. Seem's to happen with my 2 most visited sites, reddit and my companies website, which I use on a daily basis to log into our server and test energy management controls comms.
I had same issue on DK28 rom so I flashed DI18 modem and no more data drops and speed increase on my DK28 Ext4!
Try it,DI18 modem is way better and bug free. There is DI18 zip file on dev section for clockwork.
Can you run a dk28 rom with the di18 radio? I didn't think that was possible.

I reverted back to DK17 modem and it seems to have improved/stabilized by speednet test downloads.
And you used the link that was in this thread

No, i used Odin which ACS kindly provided and just flashed the modem in download mode while keeping my current ROM (bonsai4all_v1.1.3) setup intact.
Odin3=v1.61/DK17 modem ONLY/pit
are you guys referring the the annoying drop in 4G when download big data files?
happens everytime i do. I hate it. I cant play XBL or ps3 online because of it.
Never had the problem with my EVO. Sammy needs to re-evaluate themselves.
They have more bugs in this phone out the box. Whereas not the case with my HTC evo
but oddly enough I can Torrent all day long like I did a 17gb file on 4G
and 50gbs more files. But torrents but a different type of strain on the network

Yeah that one, just flash in cwr on any DK28 rom even Ext4.
To those using DI17 modem flash DI18 its more stable and faster speeds.Plus you can flash it in cwr instead of Odin so it will not brick your phone and with Odin there is always that chance.
So have you guys had the best experience with the DI17 or DI18 modem?
Also since I'm running Truly Epic with ext4, which file do I Odin just for the modem?

When I CWM the DK18 Modem it says "Status 7 Error" ....think the only way it will be possible is if I can ODIN the modem only for DI18....does anyone have this by chance????
Hmm
Sure enough it seems to be working and problem free (so far). Using Ext4 and on the latest Quantum FWIW.
I flashed the test 23 zip from eugine. After that every.thing was wiped from sd. Then I can't instal any apps because the tom memory shows o.ombs. Then I tried flashing a stock kernel and guess what? Still nothing is recognized and now I cant data reset my phone becajse all the wipes fail and cant aaccesse cwm anymore, I get an error with orange writing? Anyone know what the problem is? I have.bionix v installed.
ya...
eguene's test kernels ruined my phone as well. odin back to stock, start backing up your data(like i'm just starting to do ) and don't use his kernels anymore lol
My application storage also turned to 0 but after i odin to stock it works now. Did you load the .pit file?

They are all there in supercurio's thread. Take three seconds to find it instead of asking to be spoon fed. Additionally, the kernel is for TESTING purposes. If you don't even know how to Odin a kernel or find a tar format kernel then you shouldn't be flashing test kernels. Learn how to take care of yourself or don't flash test kernels.

I have heard of a lot of reports from people that loose functionality of their radio and even more drastic problems after flashing some ODIN packages...
Now, i don't know which ODIN package is responsible, i know that bubby323 did make a faulty package, somewhere down the line..
ODIN is a last resort... Us here can get you up and working most of the time without even having to open up... ClockWorkRecovery is our friend
If you absolutely need to ODIN, What i suggest is going into the package with 7-zip, and checking whether or not there is a modem file... if there is, delete it... That's just my advise
Also, i have had a couple of reports of people getting fried from with CWM.... As of right now, i would tread lightly in there.... Backups and Restores should be fine, but don't do anything crazy in there If you do need to do anything does not require edify (3.0+) scripting, i suggest using the blue recovery...
This is all just my own personal opinions and such, do whatever you want
Thank you for the warning

Can the Sprint Samsung Epic 4g on gingerbread 2.3.6 be rooted?
Hello to anyone who knows about rooting. I work in medicne so I can figure out anything with the human body but not with rooting my Samsung epic on gingerbread 2.3.6. I have tried different developers, different sites, and read till I went crazy. The lingo gets old. It would be like me talking to the common public about the interpetation of hemodynamic readings and congestive heart failure. Anyhow, I rooted my epic 4g before it automatically upgraded to gingerbread...then it froze...I researched and unbricked it with a program everyone said did not work...but it worked to unbrick my phone even though it was supposed to root my phone...it just reset it to where it was usable again. When I try to go to certain websites for rooting files to download...they seem to be missing...hmmmm. So again, can the samsung epic 4g on gingerbread 2.3.6 be rooted? If it can, please direct me to some site...so far...I have tried about 5 different sites...no luck. It is also very hard to find anything specific on gingerbread 2.3.6 on rooting...alot of info. on the other versions.

there is a thread that tells you a 3 step method. if you wanna flash another rom then here is what I did. Download the rom you want and put on the sd card. download odin if you do not already have it. download cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.tar.md5. open odin uncheck every thing even reboot. then click pda put the cwm.tar into the pda. make sure your phone is in download mode. by holding the #1 button on the keyboard and the power button. plug the phone in to the usb. a yellow com box should pop up. hit start it shouldn't take long but it will complete and the phone will still be on. unplug your phone and take the battery out. put the battery back and turn on using the 3 finger method. ( vol. down, camera and power button) then wipe data, wipe cache, go into advance and wipe dalvik. press the back button click then click install zip from sdcard. click choose zip from sd card and then choose your rom and install that should be all. if you want to stay stock and just be rooted you need to download superuser.zip the link is found in the first video. you do the first part the same but instead of wiping every thing you go start into install zip and then choose the super user zip. reboot your system. then you have to go into the root explorer and delete a file but I cant remember the file name. but then you turn your phone off and then you have to odin cwm again. then you will be rooted. i will edit this when i can remember the file name unless some one beats me to the punch. i hope this helps if not pm me and i will try to help i am going to be flashing back to stock and re rooting to day so..
Thanks...I will try it again.
