[Q] Internal SD - Nexus S General

I don't mean to cause any alarm, but does anyone know if the internal 16 GB SD card in the Nexus S is the same as the one in the failure-prone Bell SGS?
Hoping it's not...

...the memory failure from the SGS on bell was caused by leaked software that wasnt ready

Is the memory on this a soldered SD card or proper flash which would give better read/write speeds? e.g. the WP7 devices with flash memory load apps and games faster.

iFixit had a teardown and it is flash memory soldered on the PCB

[q] sd card speed matters

Hello All I have a very simple question but plays a very important role in performance.
I got a 2GB SD CARD FROM SAMSUNG.
I have another LOCAL SD CARD 4GB
My question is will the SPEED Remain same to transfer or access data from both these SD CARDS.
I mean to say is will the LOCAL SD CARD BE SLOWER(since its not samsung branded) IN ACCESSING AND RETRIEVING DATA which will eventually slow down my phone or something like that.
I hope you all understood my question..will elaborate if u want me to.
hoping for a good answer.
Thanks

cumon guys a small opinion would make a big difference
I am not very knowledgeable about this, but the class of the SD card matters when comparing performance. Here is a link that might help:
http://www.sdcard.org/developers/tech/speed_class/
i have noticed that when i changed sd card from samsung original (came with phone) to new transcend 8gb sd card, phone is now booting for 5 minutes....
It being a samsung card doesn't make the card more "compatible" with a samsung phone. A card is defined by the card, not by the brand.

yeah so it means that performance has degraded right.
Also i think booting is not much worry as its done from ROM
so apart from booting what else is buggy or degrading performance, comparing both 2 GB and 8 GB
its on a card to card basis, if it is slower for him it doesnt mean it will be slower for you.
You should use a Class 6 SD card. Slower cards are not adequate.
Sent from my GT-I5801 using XDA App
You can use a class 6 SD card, however, i do not think the phone is capable of handling such high speed cards, and thus the read/write speed of the phone will limit the speed.
Conclusively i don't think there will be an increase in performance!

[Q] Galaxy s4 internal memory

Howdy, I have two questions.
(1). The Samsung galaxy s4 comes in 3 versions 16,32,and 64.
What class or how fast is this internal memory
(2) Is it faster to access info from internal opposed from external memory. Namely class 10
Thanks, Chris
Here is no class for the internal memory, but it will go/run at the fastest available speed. It will be faster than any sd card regardless of the sd cards class
The reason is because the memory is on hoard and built into the system where the sd has to go through a reader...kinda like having a middle man...it slows down the process - same reason why a 7200 rpm internal hard drive will always be faster then a 7200rpm external hard drive

Still doesn't mean your sd might not be faster. The manufacturers can use cheap flash to cut costs and increase profits. So you might get 64gb of slow flash internal. I'd really like to see r\w filesystem benchmarks so they'd have to start using and touting "faster" flash.

Replacing internal SD card?

Back in the day when I was using WP7, I managed to replace the INTERNAL SD cards on an HD7 and a Surround with larger capacity cards, is this possible with the N4?

No
Absolutely not.

The problem with the Nexus 4 would be that it does not have an internal SD card. It uses a Toshiba Chipset for storage.
It is theoretically possible. But you'd have to loosen the chip, and if not done by a professional the whole device will probably be damaged.
Also, if you were to plan to put a new chip in(there are bigger variants of the same chip up to 64 GB), that would be an even harder task.
Soldering it back on and getting all the firmware etc onto the chip.
I think noone did it before however. So you'd pretty much be on your own.

Moto G internal memory is a micro SD

Today in the morning, I read a notice about memory of Moto G, it says this device use a micro SD card like internal memory.
It is a inconvenient because SD is worse that any NAND, Motorola says that is not possible replace this memory because in this memory is containing the system.

Heard of that too,but as long as the phone still fast and we dont have sudden death because of that there is no reason to worry
In fact it's not's a normal SD,but yeah it's a way to make the phone cheaper
Look, if they keep this phone at about this price point for future iterations then I'm looking at a yearly upgrade. At the absolute worst, I'd have this phone for two years (I can't see that happening). So will an internal microSD last that one-year life cycle I have for my device? Yes, it absolutely should. It does exactly what you need it to, so I couldn't possibly care less.
It isn't true. The Moto G does not contain a hidden microSD card. The storage is an eMMC module that is soldered to the mainboard (this was incorrectly reported as an eMMC card which do not exist).
The rumors of the Moto G having a microSD card come from a German blog that saw a metal cover that was coincidentally the same shape and size as a microSD card and assumed that this meant that a card was hidden underneath. There isn't.
Wouldn't surprise me if all this was a big plan to drive more traffic to ArenaMobile. Clickbaiting basically.

Good to know, but i can't see any problem with that. The phone is superb

Damned Krauts!
I hope it is a microSD card, so I can replace by a big one.
Did you not read the read, netyang? It's already been clarified that there is no microSD slot hidden in the phone.

As long as it's a fast micro sd card it doesn't matter surely?

No. eMMC has some advantages like durability and the technology of construction is better, for example in heat conduction is better than a SD because can preventing overheating in better way.
I really doubt that any microSD card could deliver such great performance in Androbench. And even if there were such microSD available on market, assembling it in mid/low-end device would be impossible because of price.
Here are tests from benchmarks (random write? o . O ): http://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-Motorola-Moto-G-Smartphone.106672.0.html
Okay

Well, so it is a good phone, I hope to have it soon, was what worried me.
Me and a friend saved some screenshots from a mobile phone with a 32GB SD Card Class 10 and internal memory of Moto G.
Images are attached.

It´s not a trick. It's just a printscreen from 2 mobile phones showing that Internal MotoG's SDCard is faster even then a Class 10 MicroSD.
I want the moderator to ban me.
Not this again. Please...
FYI the memory is eMMC and it´s SOLDERED to the board. Good luck replacing it.
Dumbfounded
Why is there no SD slot this seems ludicrous cause of the tiny 8 GB size hell my music is more than that. Just seems like its driving away customers cause i like the phone but I will probably go with the LG optimus as I cant handle the small amount of storage.

How fast is the SDcard slot compared to internal memory?

Hi, I'm currently thinking about popping an SDcard in my xplay and was wondering how fast the slot runs at?
I was thinking maybe I will be wasting my money getting the fastest card on the block if the slot speed is slower than the SD card.
Also am curious in the difference in speed of the internal memory compared to the fastest speed of the sd card.
If anyone has any info on the above would be grateful for your input.

I've just borrowed an SDcard out of another phone (Samsung evo (yellow)) and benchmarked against the internal SD card and got the following scores:
External - (read) 34.36MB/s, (write) 20.0MB/s
Internal - (read) 89.76MB/s, (write) 53.35MB/s
Has anyone found an SDcard that is as fast as the internal?

I don't think there are sdcards available with the same read/write speeds as internal. On my old moto g with LP ROM I always installed big games to my sdcard using apps2sd and the only difference i noticed was that it takes a little longer loading an app.

I was just looking at the benchmark results database for the "a1 SD benchmark" app and there are a few submissions that encourage me to think it may be possible with a card like the Samsung Pro series which can do around 80r/70w MB/s. Only thing that has me wondering is whether the card interface would be a bottleneck?

It also depends on the phone I guess as to how much speeds it can reach.

Just Popped a Samsung Pro card in which is rated as 90/80 and an only seeing 54/21 so am assuming the sdcard interface is neutered in some way compared to some other higher end phones.
Anyone else noticing this performance ceiling?

Not neutered - All SD card interfaces are slower than the actual memory built in to the phone, this is right across the board for all phones. It's a known bottle neck that's a fact of life. That is the biggest thing in favour of more memory in the actual phone. I'm not a gamer but I have a ton of apps installed on the SD card and don't find any negative impact on day to day use. That said if I could have bought a 32 or 64GB version of the Play I would have instead of the 16GB version.
Your never going to see the tested speed in the phone equal the SD card out of the phone.
